[26 November 2009 / Thanksgiving day]

“[sic]“; you may have seen this before, most likely written within a quote or a letter of some kind. But what exactly does it mean?

Well, good ol’ Wikipedia has the answer my friends. Sic is a Latin word meaning “thus”, “so”, “as such”, or “in such a manner”. It’s usage in writing is this: let us imagine we have a letter. It is an old historical document which we are to transcribe into, say, a textbook. But the writer of the letter did not have proper spelling or grammar.

Do you correct the spelling and grammar errors? Or do you leave them there? That is where [sic] comes in. Commonly mistaken to be an acronym for “said in context”, the word [sic] would be placed after such spelling/grammatical mistakes. This was to represent that the error was recognized, but left within the quote so as to not tamper with the quotes original contents.

Nifty little thing it is; but I like to take it one step further. Sic is pronounced like “Sick” right? Perhaps not in the original Latin; but it has been Anglicized to such a pronunciation. Sick.

After thinking about this I came to one conclusion: to me, sic means two things. 1) This is the original and uncorrected 2) it is imperfect and could use correction. So by this logic, we are all sic. We all are original, we all are flawed.

Sic is an important word to me. I consider myself to be sic; I am what I am, I know it’s fucked up, and I’m not denying it. But I am not going to waste my life striving for a perfection I’ll never have. I am sic, I’m going to stay sic, and I will always be sic. The upside of being sic is the sincerity that comes with it; you’re not seeing a facade of perfection. You’re getting the real deal, the good and the bad.

So in all honesty, I consider being sic a good thing. I am capable of error, so very capable of error. But it makes me human, and it makes me… Me.

Which brings me to how being sic ties into this blog: this is a place where I will post my thoughts about things. I am going to use profane language, I am going to say what I think, and there will be plenty of people who will disagree with me or say I am “doing it wrong”.

This is my message to them: what you see is what you get. I am what I am, which is imperfect, and I am exceedingly glad this is the case.

Cos’è la SIC? E il GRAS? Sigle strane e inquietanti a prima vista.
La Scrittura Industriale Collettiva è ciò che produrrà il Grande Romanzo Aperto SIC. Sigle che si rincorrono, acronimi sconosciuti, ma in verità la cosa è molto semplice (all’apparenza).
Su Repubblica ne ha parlato anche Loredana Lipperini: “… sostengono Magini e Santoni, è proprio la Rete che sta modificando il rapporto fra chi scrive e chi legge, favorendo il testo più che la singola personalità di chi lo ha creato: anche su questi presupposti è già in piena attività il loro progetto, che si chiama Scrittura Industriale Collettiva. L’ idea è quella di scrivere un romanzo storico ambientato negli anni della Seconda guerra mondiale: gli autori sono 236 e provengono sia dal mondo letterario tradizionale che da Internet. Per la cronaca, il risultato sarà leggibile su carta”.

Per chi volesse saperne di più, può leggere il soggetto del romanzo.
E qui c’è il tabellone con le schede assegnate per quest’ultima fase, che è quella della scrittura vera.
Dal tabellone si può dedurre che devo scrivere due schede ‘maggiori’ entro martedì 1 dicembre. Ecco il motivo per cui terminerò velocemente questo post e mi immergerò di nuovo nelle vicende di Aldo, Matteo e Adele.

Nell’articolo di Loredana Lipperini si legge che gli autori sono 236, ma il dato è dell’inizio del progetto. Ora siamo meno della metà mi pare. Comunque siamo ancora un bel gruppo che lavora a un progetto innovativo. Ho partecipato a questo lavoro collettivo perché mi incuriosiva lo svolgimento di questa scrittura e mi incuriosisce molto il risultato.
Credo che chiunque ne venga a conoscenza non possa che esserne attratto e si senta interessato alla lettura del prodotto finito, anche per l’originalità che il progetto mostra.

Ora sto terminando la prima scrittura (revisionerò poi all’ultimo) della scheda S75- primissimo periodo in cascina, in cui vediamo (io lo vedo, voi ancora no) Aldo e la madre nella cascina di famiglia. Aldo si nasconde nel solaio e dipende in tutto dalla madre che gli porta quel poco cibo che riesce a procurare. Poi…

E dopo mi occuperò delle lettere bagnate. Come si possono leggere le lettere in cui le parole si sono sciolte nell’acqua?

 PS. ho parlato poco di Santoni e Magini e degli altri (scusatemi, non ricordo i nomi di tutti) che si occupano della gestione e della definizione del lavoro fatto. Ne parlerò in seguito. Credo che stiano facendo un ottimo lavoro, molto impegnativo e anche faticoso. Ma ne riparlerò.

Prior to Round 9 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will be held on December 5 and 6, the Sepang International Circuit (South) will be open for testing on Thursday of the race week. It is scheduled to take place on December 3, 2009.

There will be two test sessions for the day. The first will session kick off at 10am till 1pm while the second will begin at 2pm till 5pm. The fee is fixed at RM100 per bike for one session and is open to all the Cub Prix teams and privateer riders.

Unlike other venues in the Cub Prix calendar where the layout is narrow, more focused on technical skills and designed to match the capacities of ‘kapcai’ machines, Sepang (South) is intended more for machines with greater abilities, power, durability and speed.

Therefore the set up required to master this circuit is completely different from the ones used by teams for other venues on the race calendar- hence this is why the promoter, Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM) is organizing the test session.

Mr. Ron Hogg, Promotions Director for SAM encourages Cub Prix teams to take full advantage of the opportunity given. He says it is utmost essential to make sure each and every element of man and machine is reviewed and tested before the race because the Championship is now at its crucial and final phase.

“Even though, Sepang track is not new to all of us as we have been racing year in and year out but I hope the teams and riders will take the testing session to improve on their bike set-up. One of the challenges I foresee is the weather. In Round 5 that was held in the month of July this season, we were racing under the scorching sun but this time around, we might be racing under a cooler environment as it is rainy season now.”

“Therefore, I believe the test session will not only boost the chances of bagging good results but it will also help ensure the machine set-up is in top form. Furthermore, both the Expert and Wira epg titles are still wide open and I am sure the riders who are in the running for the title chase will want to collect as many points in Sepang,” added Ron.

MENJELANG saingan Pusingan 9 siri Kejuaraan Cub Prix Malaysia AAM PETRONAS yang berlangsung pada 5 dan 6 Disember ini,penganjur perlumbaan Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM) membuka peluang untuk pasukan menguji jentera di Litar Antarabangsa Sepang (Trek Selatan).

Sesi ujian sehari yang diadakan pada 3 Disember depan itu akan dibahagikan kepada dua sesi. Sesi ujian pertama akan bermula pada 10 pagi hingga 1 petang manakala sesi ujian kedua bermula pada 2 hingga 5 petang. Setiap jentera akan dikenakan yuran sebanyak RM100 dan ia terbuka kepada semua pelumba Cub Prix dan pelumba persendirian.

Berbeza dengan venue yang disenaraikan dalam kalendar Cub Prix, venue Sepang (Trek Selatan) amat berbeza kerana ia memerlukan setiap pasukan melipat gandakan kelebihan jentera seperti kuasa, ketahanan, kepantasan dan pelbagai lagi.

Menurut Pengarah Promosi SAM, Ron Hogg, dia berharap semua pasukan Cub Prix akan mempergunakan peluang keemasan ini sepenuhnya. Sesi ujian ini adalah persiapan terakhir buat pasukan menguji pelumba dan jentera sebelum perlumbaan sebenar bermula. Tambahan pula, pada peringkat ini, persaingan semakin sengit kerana Kejuaraan kini telah memasuki fasa terakhir.

“Sekali pun, trek Sepang bukanlah asing, saya berharap setiap pasukan dan pelumba mengambil peluang sesi ujian ini untuk membuat penyelarasan yang terbaik pada jentera. Antara cabaran getir yang saya ramal adalah dari faktor cuaca. Pada saingan Pusingan 5, Julai lepas, keadaan cuaca cukup baik namun kini jika kita teliti keadaan cuaca ketika ini, kemungkinan besar saingan akan berlangsung dalam cuaca buruk.

“Oleh itu,saya percaya, sesi ujian ini bukan hanya membuka peluang setiap pelumba dan pasukan memperolehi keputusan yang baik tetapi juga membantu mereka menyediakan penyelarasan terbaik pada masa perlumbaan sebenar.

“Dalam pada itu, saingan merebut mahkota kelas Expert dan Wira epg masih terbuka. Saya yakin pelumba yang mendahalui carta keseluruhan  pasti mahu mengutip sebanyak mungkin mata Kejuaraan di Sepang bagi merealisasikan harapan mereka untuk bergelar juara,” tambah Ron.

So we finally see images of the master display of SIC Kamen Rider Kabuto and boy do they make this action figure worth the wait.

This action figure comes with a lot of accesories. Whereas other SIC releases have two action figures inside the package, this appears to only have one, with interchangeable parts. It transforms from regular Cast-Off Kabuto, to Hyper Cast-Off Kabuto then its Hyper Cast-Off Rider Kick form. Whew! That’s a mouthful!

I know a lot of people had a gripe with how the series was handled/ended and I do feel that the start of the series was awesome but became dragging near the end. But I still hold on to my belief that this was one of the better Kamen Rider designs I have seen, especially among the Heisei Riders. I’m sure a lot of other KR series fans will contest that but I absolutely loved this series’ armor designs.

Aside from the different forms, it comes with his Kunai Gun in Gun, Axe and Kunai forms. The Perfect Zecter is also included. Does this mean they’re going to release other Kamen Riders from this series? I know they’re going to release Dark Kabuto and Gatack. Another thing that comes with this action figure is Decade’s sword, henshin belt and Kabuto’s Form Ride when KR Decade uses Kabuto’s card as part of a hissatsu sequence.

This action figure is up for pre-order in Amiami.com at 5,500 yen.

I would definitely love to own this and Gatack and have them both on my office desk.

Official pictures of the SIC Kamen Rider Kabuto action figure can be seen in the Amiami.com link above. It appears that it features only Cast-Off mode and Hyper Cast-Off mode. It also includes KR Decade’s sword as well as Kabuto’s alternate form from the KR Decade series: Kabuto Form Ride? Does this mean the next KR action figures that will show up in the SIC line that were featured in the KR Decade series will also have the alternate forms from the said series? And maybe a Decade sword and Decade Henshin belt?

So the rumor of the addtional Zect Trooper parts for Gatack seem to be false. Which is great news because that has to be the stupidest thing Bandai will have done since making Emperor Form an online limited. Dark Kabuto will have Masked Form parts and seeing how Masked Form for Dark and regular Kabuto are pretty much the same, I wouldn’t be surprised if they added an extra Masked Form head with blue eyes. They’ve been making a lot of cross volume accessories with SIC more lately. Such as adding hands for regular Den-o in the Climax Form set and giving a Decade belt for Kiva in the Kabuto set.  Of course, even if the Masked Form parts are interchangable with regular Kabuto, we won’t get a Masked Form Kabuto vs. Masked Form Dark Kabuto, which would be a shame…ah well.

Mostly SIC updates. Definitely would want to own the KR Kabuto SIC. That Chogokin Drossel looks interesting though.

As for the MG GN-X, that’s an interesting release. I kind of expected MG treatment on some other mecha from the Gundam 00 series but I guess Bandai figured it’s the right time to release and antagonist mobile suit as a Master Grade release.

More than delighted Round 9 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship will take place in Sepang is Ahmad Fazli Sham. The Shell Advance Yamaha Maju rider has a good record there and is hoping to bag another impressive win.

Last year, the 27 years old rider won the race in Sepang  and timed the fastest lap of practice at 1:22.851s. This year he bagged the winning podium as well on the same circuit for Round 5 and improved his practice lap time by 2.21s- raising the benchmark to a higher level of 1:20.642s.

But still, his best performance in Sepang was back in 2007. Not only did Fazli win the race, he also timed the fastest lap of race at 1:15.662s. On top of that, he won the race in Sepang in 2006 too.

Being the humble rider that he is, even so he is feeling positive; Fazli plans to proceed cautiously because Md Zamri Baba and Ahmad Fuad Baharudin remains a serious threat.

Zamri would be the aggressive rider. He has taken home two chequered flags and finished three races on the podium.  Meanwhile, Fuad has been consistent in picking up points and picked up two winning podiums so far this season.

In addition, in Fazli’s view, the machines in the Expert class are evolving steadily and the standards are not too far apart, regardless of the make.

“There is not much difference between the Expert machines anymore. This is natural because after 8 rounds, for certain the riders and mechanics will start to get use with the 130cc machines. In order to boost the chances of winning the next round, we are running some R&D with our Yamaha machine. Progress is there but we can only confirm it after the test session,” said the 27 years old.

Fazli went on to add,” Sepang (South) is not a technical track. The key to winning the race here is speed, skill and a little bit of luck. I’m hoping to get the maximum points because I have had a good record there,” he said.

Zamri of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong leads the current standings with 116 points while Fuad of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline stands in second place with 114 points. Fazli on the other hand stands in third spot with 112 points. Not too far behind is Fuad’s teammate, Md Iskandar Raduan who has 98 points under his belt followed by Elly Idzlianizar Ilias with 87 points.

‘Perbezaan jentera tidak ketara lagi,’ Fazli Sham

Antara pelumba yang gembira Pusingan 9 Kejuaraan Cub Prix Malaysia AAM PETRONAS akan berlangsung di Litar Antarabangsa Sepang (Selatan) ialah Ahmad Fazli Sham. Ini adalah kerana pelumba Shell Advance Yamaha Maju tersebut mempunyai rekod yang baik di litar tersebut.

Segalanya bermula sejak tahun 2006 di mana Fazli pertama kali menakluk litar tersebut. Kehebatan Fazli di atas litar tersebut terserlah lagi di dalam tahun 2007 di mana dia sekali lagi menjuarai perlumbaan di litar Sepang dengan catatan masa terpantas 1:15.662saat.

Tahun lepas juga menyaksikan Fazli sekali lagi merampas podium kemenangan. Selain itu dia mencatatkan masa terpantas latihan dengan 1:22.851s. Keunggulan Fazli berterusan untuk Kejuaraan Cub Prix Malaysia tahun ini di dalam pusingan 5 yang diadakan di Sepang.

Walau bagaimanapun, Fazli bukanlah terlampau yakin. Walaupun dia positif akan kemungkinan untuk meragut kemenangan itu jelas ternyata, dia ingin mengharungi perlumbaan tersebut dengan berhati-hati kerana terdapat banyak risiko seperti kehadiran pelumba Md Zamri Baba dan Ahmad Fuad Baharudin.

Tambahan pula, dari pandangan Fazli, kebanyakan jentera kelas Expert kini sedang meningkat dari segi prestasi dan perbezaan kuasa jentera tidak begitu ketara lagi.

“Susah untuk mengagak keputusan untuk perlumbaan di Sepang nanti. Ini adalah kerana jentera-jentera kini sudah meningkat dari segi kelajuan dan ketahanan. Peningkatan ini merupakan hasil usaha keras pelumba dan mekanik pasukan melakukan pelbagai ujian ke atas jentera 130cc ini sepanjang musim ini.

Oleh hal yang demikian, untuk menjamin kemenangan di Pusingan 9 nanti, kami (Shell Advance Yamaha Maju) kini sedang melakukan R&D ke atas jentera Yamaha kami. Walaupun terdapat sedikit kemajuan, kami hanya boleh meletakkan kata putus pada sesi ujian nanti sebelum Pusingan 9 bulan hadapan,” ujar pelumba berusia 27 tahun itu.

Fazli terus menambah,”Litar Sepang (Selatan) bukanlah litar yang teknikal. Oleh itu, kunci untuk memenangi perlumbaan di sini adalah jentera yang boleh memecut, skil dan sedikit nasib yang baik. Saya berharap untuk memenangi perlumbaan tersebut dan mengutip jumlah mata maksima kerasa sejak tahun 2006, saya mempunyai rekod yang baik di sana,” jelas Fazli.

Mengetuai carta keseluruhan kelas Expert ini ialah Zamri dari PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong. Pelumba berusia 25 tahun ini mempunyai 116 mata diikuti pelumba PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline, Fuad yang mempunyai 114 mata. Fazli pula berdiri di tangga ketiga dengan 112 mata, diikuti Md Iskandar Raduan dan Elly Idzlianizar Ilias yang mempunyai 98 dan 87 mata masing-masing.

ITS been almost ONE year since the first PRIDE Dance Competition presented by Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, INC and Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, INC. at Rutgers University New Brunswick campus. Excitement for the event has been building since they first announced the event slated for OCTOBER. As well as everyone in the NJ/NYC scene has known since the first announcement, the early target date initially threw most of the dance teams a surprise by how early it was revealed. As a result, most teams were not ready at all to compete leaving only an initial showcase/competition total of only five teams on the October date. Unfortunately (due to some other difficulties), the show was rescheduled to a later (and much more recognizable) date of November — when they actually first unveiled Pride. This SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd, PRIDE 2 hits the NJ dance scene bringing back big name competitors such as, E.P.I.C. Motion, SERCis Company, Rutgers Dance Team (RDT), Team Technique, and last year’s champions –Project D Dance Company.

In addition to the established teams, there is new talent on the horizon for this years Pride 2, featuring new to the NJ/NYC scene groups such as: Miracle Project, Outta Kontrol, YFAMD (MD), and Phunktions (UMD).

Despite the atmosphere of competition, its really great to see an explosion of new teams coming out of the wood work. Whether or not there is hype around them, or if a team is good or not shouldn’t be the issue.

The realization should be…DIVERSIFICATION.

It means new ideas and self expression is taking place. It also means that truly our dance community is growing. Give it time and something exceptionally original and unmistakably beautiful to public appeal is bound come from our budding dance community.

Joining the final round of the Spanish 125cc National Championship will be Malaysian Wildcard rider, Muhammad Zulfahmi Khairuddin of Team Malaysia. The race is set to take place this weekend in Valencia, Spain, November 21-22.

This will be the first time Fahmi will be racing out of Malaysia and he is very excited and nervous. However, he emphasized that this is no vacation as he will have to prove his worth to all the parties that have played a role in his development as a rider-namely the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, Modenas Yuzy Pachi Racing and Team Malaysia.

The 18 years old rider who completed 20th position in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix last month in Sepang is also very proud and honoured to be able to race in the Spanish National Championship.

“Right now, I am having a mixed feeling. No doubt, I am happy but at the same time, I am feeling anxious. All the hard work and sacrifices is finally paying off and I am now moving into another phase-the international level. I can’t help but feel anxious because the Spanish National Championship is no joke as it is very challenging and  there are many current GP125 riders taking part as well,” said Fahmi.

The Banting rider went on to add, “Nonetheless, I will not let anxiety take the best of me. I will try my best to remain calm and focus. Preparations have been made and I have studied the Valencia circuit layout. All I have to do is try it out, get the feel of it and deliver results.”

As for his targets this weekend, Fahmi clarified much alike the MotoGP, the main objective is to qualify and finish the race. That’s the responsibility handed down to him- although he does have his own aim.

“The target this weekend is to make the cut and finish the 125cc race. It’s not going to be easy but I’m willing to take the chances. Furthermore, I will be using an Aprilia bike there and Team Ongetta ISPA will help us ease into it. I’m looking forward to working with them and hopefully we will be able to achieve the desire results,” concluded Fahmi.

ZULFAHMI BERLEPAS KE VALENCIA

Pelumba Wildcard Malaysia, Md Zulfahmi Khairuddin mendapat tiket untuk beraksi di dalam pusingan akhir Kejuaraan Nasional Sepanyol kelas 125cc yang dijadualkan berlangsung hujung minggu ini, November 21-22 di Valencia, Sepanyol.

Ini merupakan kali pertama Fahmi beraksi di luar Malaysia dalam sepanjang karier perlumbaannya. Anak muda tersebut amat gembira dan gementar untuk mewakili Malaysia di tahap antarabangsa. Walau bagaimanapun, Fahmi akui ini bukanlah sebuah percutian tetapi merupakan peluang bagi dia membuktikan bahawa dia mempunyai bakat untuk bersaing dengan pelumba-pelumba dari negara lain di dalam Kejuaraan tempatan mereka sendiri.

Fahmi juga menyatakan bahawa perlumbaan hujung minggu ini juga merupakan peluang untuk membuktikan Program Wildcard Malaysia bukanlah satu usaha-sama yang sia-sia. Pihak-pihak yang disebut Fahmi itu adalah Kejuaraan Cub Prix Malaysia AAM PETRONAS, Modenas Yuzy Pachi Racing dan Team Malaysia.

Tambahan lagi, Fahmi yang menamatkan perlumbaan kelas 125cc Kejuaraan Motosikal Dunia bulan lalu di tempat ke-20 itu juga berbangga kerana diberi peluang untuk berlumba di dalam Kejuaraan Nasional Sepanyol itu.

“Ketika ini, perasaan saya bercampur-aduk. Tidak dapat dinafikan saya amat gembira tetapi pada waktu yang sama saya turut berrasa gementar. Saya gembira kerana usaha dan pengorbanan selama ini tidak sia-sia manakala saya gementar kerana Kejuaraan Sepanyol itu bukanlah satu perlumbaan yang mudah. Ia tentu sangat mencabar dan tambahan pula ramai pelumba GP125 mengambil bahagian di dalam perlumbaan tersebut,” jelas Fahmi.

Fahmi yang berasal dari Banting itu terus menambah,” Walau bagaimanapun, saya tidak akan biar perasaan cemas dan gemuruh ini mengambil alih diri saya. Saya akan berusaha untuk menenangkan perasaan dan memberikan fokus sepenuhnya pada hari perlumbaan. Persediaan telah pun dilakukan dan saya telah mengkaji litar Valencia. Saya hanya perlu menguji litar tersebut dengan jentera sebelum saya boleh memberikan keputusan yang memberangsangkan.”

Apabila ditanya mengenai keputusan yang ingin dicapai, Fahmi menjelaskan, objektif yang diberikan kepadanya adalah untuk melayakkan diri ke perlumbaan akhir dan menamatkan perlumbaan di kedudukan sebaik boleh, sepertimana dilakukannya di dalam Pusingan 16 MotoGP di Sepang.

“Objektif untuk perlumbaan ini adalah untuk melayakkan diri dan menamatkan perlumbaan akhir kelas 125cc itu. Saya akui ia bukanlah tugas mudah tetapi saya akan berusaha untuk melakukan yang terbaik. Tambahan pula, saya akan menggunakan jentera Aprillia di sana dan pasukan Ongetta ISPA akan menghulurkan sedikit sebanyak bantuan. Saya berharap semua akan berjalan lancar di sana,” kata Fahmi.

La polémique sur le contenu des emails exfiltrés de la CRU de l’Université d’East Anglia et du Hadley Climate Centre ne s’est pas fait attendre… outre-atlantique. Alors que les médias français restent bouche cousue sur l’affaire, le “ClimateGate” a commencé à prendre une ampleur respectable dans les journaux en langue anglaise.

Les pratiques anti-scientifiques dévoilées par les échanges sont sans équivoque: Phil Jones et son équipe ont organisé à coup de pression sociale un véritable filet de censure contre toute étude allant contre leurs propres conclusions, tout en s’arrangeant, par l’intimidation et même les menaces, pour bidonner des revues positives de leurs propres papiers… tout en admettant la présence de problèmes dans leurs résultats (comme l’existence bien réelle de l’optimum médiéval, période plus chaude que notre époque), en privé ! Leur méthode ? Critiquer leurs contradicteurs sur le nombre de papiers qu’ils ont publié pour tenter de les décrédibiliser, tout en faisant pression en douce sur les revues pour les empêcher de publier – pile je gagne, face tu perds. Ils ont aussi obtenu le licenciement d’éditeurs ou rédacteurs ayant permis la publication d’articles pointant des erreurs dans les travaux du GIEC, comme James Saiers. Mojib Latif, chercheur climatique à l’Institut de Sciences Marines de Leibniz, n’a pas hésité à qualifier la clique de “mafia qui tente d’empêcher des papiers critiques d’être publiés”.
