Only slightly Halloweeny, the Geiger-style aliens from the amazing film franchise are awesome enough to blog about anyway. We’ve got a ton of Sideshow statues and figures both new and old that feature the original aliens from the first films and the new ones from the Aliens versus Predator franchise. Whatever you think of the films, there’s no denying that the folks at Sideshow have outdone themselves in terms of quality and detail with these figures.

Indiana Jones was, is and will forever be one of the most awesome adventurers ever created. Harrison Ford has taken a ton of great roles and brought to life dozens of complex characters, but along with Rick Deckard and Han Solo, Henry “Indiana” Jones leads the pack. I think I’ve got the Halloween spirit. So here, right on the heels of the previous zombie post, here’s a look at some of the awesome zombie toys and figures you’ll find over at CmdStore.com.

First off is the Sideshow series ‘The Dead’. Four 12-inch figures strong, the prophet, the tactical containment official (whose zombification spells terrible things for the civilian population), the babysitter and the Christmas-themed mall Santa. Each one features the quality you’d expect from the Sideshow gang and fans of the walking dead will definitely enjoy these.

For those who prefer the usual cast of characters and only dabble in the world of the undead, take a look at the Marvel Zombies line, based on the comic series and brought to you by Marvel Select. Spider-Man looks especially worse for wear here and his compatriots don’t fare much better. Each one come with a sculpted base featuring a piece of the dismembered Silver Surfer.

Back to more traditional zombies, here’s the trio from Attack of the Living Dead. Some of the goriest figures around, they’re sure to please any fan of the more visceral zombie flicks out there. These guys are the stuff of nightmares.

Finally, the world of video games has seen a massive increase in the number of zombie-based stories, but few have done it better than or for as long as Resident Evil. Both the protagonists and antagonists are engaging, the tales they tell complex and the world wide and immersive. No matter what your console, chances are there’s a Resident Evil for you.

The success of September’s Montreal Comic Con means that the organizers aren’t going to waste any time prepping for the next one! And so, on December 6th, expect a one-day Comic Con featuring guests like Kane Hodder, Lloyd Kaufman and Monica Rial, plus a number of other guests soon to be announced! I came in this morning only to be greeted by three new faces: Tony Stark, the White Queen and X-23. Naturally, I would never complain about starting a day off with Robert Downey Jr. and the girls seem to be faring well with the male contingent here in the office. They’re the latest additions to Sideshow’s dazzling Marvel collection and some of the best yet. Best of all, they can be yours (well, maybe we’ll keep one..) by checking out our awesome collection of Marvel Collectibles by Sideshow Toys. But first, here’s a look at the trio now gracing our office with their esteemed presence.

Adam Hughes’ Black Queen Comiquette features another stunning recreation of Hughes’ incredible art. All the smooth lines and pin-up simplicity are retained while still offering every detail and texture element that makes his art so unique. As beautiful in her sensuality as she is in her power and with cape flowing around her legs and whip held almost lazily in one hand, she looks every bit as regal as her name suggests.

X-23 is a relatively new character in the Marvel universe, especially in this incarnation, but judging by her design, she’s here to stay. A mutant whose dangerous claws give her an easy physical advantage over those who might underestimate her, this sculpture is tantalizing enough that anyone would be willing to take the risk.

My personal favourite from this week’s shipment is this Iron Man Mark I statue. The detail on this thing has to be seen to be believed. Not only does it light up, but every piece of tarnished metal, ever joint and even the rugged tan on Tony Stark’s face is perfect. From all angles, it’s just a really impressive toy and would make a great addition to the shelf of any Iron Man or Marvel (or RDJ!) fan.

Two new Star Wars Sideshow figures are headed for our shelves, shipping in the first quarter of 2010 and featuring all the detail and quality you would expect from some of the best action figure designers in the world.

First up is the Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker, featuring a completely accurate costume including shoulder armor and wrist guards, two sets of interchangeable hands, lit and unlit lightsabers and a display base.

The second figure out next year is the Episode 2 Clone Trooper. It features over 30 points of articulation, two different weapons and a perfectly-detailed bodysuit based on the designs in the film.

These two are in addition to the Sideshow San Diego Comic Con Exclusive 2-pack featuring Han Solo and Luke Skywalker (now on sale!) in their stormtrooper disguises. This one ships this month and, like the others, can be pre-ordered already!

It’s almost like LucasArts suddenly realised the value of the old games they had gathering dust in their proverbial gaming cupboard. Following on from Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and the rest comes yet more retro goodies. Super Star Wars has been released for the Wii, with the other two games in the series out soon. Okay, it’s not the Grim Fandango re-release we all want but let’s not complain.

Back in the early 90s the Super Star Wars games were as close as you could get to reliving the original trilogy. Ok the films didn’t feature any tricky platforming but hey, the graphics were great for their day. When I remember the games – and I haven’t played or seen them since 1994 – I think of extreme difficulty and impressive audio. The landspeeder level sticks out too. I’m guessing the music won’t be as impressive this time round but the difficulty level – after 15 years of softening up as games have gotten checkpoint-friendly and generally easier – will likely be a killer. Will today’s gamers have the patience to persevere with Skywalker and co?

Anyway, Super Star Wars – are you tempted? And what do you want to see released next from the LucasArts archive?

I was fortunate enough to attend this year’s San Diego Comic Con and I excitedly picked up a couple of Con exclusives to add to my toy collection. But even attendees can’t be everywhere at once and the exclusives tend to vanish from the booths pretty quickly. Fortunately, though, I’m not in charge of CmdStore’s acquisitions and thus my inability to snag all the exclusive items hasn’t stopped us from boasting an awesome selection of SDCC 09 goodies that you can check out right here.

It features a real cloth suit for a look based on Bruce Wayne’s outfit seen here:

Finally back from Comic Con and I’ve brought a ton of pics with me!  This year’s SDCC was absolute madness and a great introduction for a newbie like me. I’ve been to other Cons, but, naturally, San Diego’s is by far the largest and the most star-studded. With rumours of it moving to Vegas next year, I wonder what the future holds for the convention (And having just been to Vegas, I also wonder how those in hot costumes will manage in the Nevada sun), but for now here’s a look at some of the pictures of myself and others enjoying the awesomeness that is SDCC.

For those who find action figure joints bulky or distracting and prefer a brilliant statue, look no further than Sideshow’s Marvel Collection. Known for their incredibly sculpting and high detail, these never disappoint. Here’s a look at three of the best ones out there:

Now available for pre-order, we’ve got this brand new Elektra comiquette that brings the heroine to life in every way the film failed to. As beautiful as she is deadly, this statue captures her in action as she attacks an unseen foe with her shining sai. She ships in the first quarter of 2010.

From the world of Awesome superhero mashups comes Iron Spider-Man, a rendering of Tony Stark’s amazing Spider-Man costume from Spider-Man: The Other. Sideshow has captured the brilliance and the power of the new look perfectly and made this a great piece for anyone who loved the Marvel arc.

One of the most sought-after comiquettes around, Adam Hughes’ vinyl-clad Black Cat slinks into the ‘Christeby’s’ warehouse to pilfer some valuable prizes. Black Cat’s comiquette looks as amazing as any of Hughes’ incredible pieces and has become very difficult to find lately, much like its comic book counterpart. She’s available here as a basic comiquette, but for collectors, we’ve also got the convention exclusive with limited-edition Adam Hughes control print.

From Ace Showbiz comes some great news about the upcoming Deadpool movie:

Ryan Reynolds has revealed that he will carry Deadpool’s habit of breaking the fourth wall from the comics to the big screen. Being interviewed during the promotion of his latest film “The Proposal”, he hinted that his character in “Deadpool” movie will occasionally be seen addressing the audience directly. “Break the fourth wall? Oh yeah, he’s got to. I want to see him break the Great Wall,” Reynolds told Empire.

Reynolds who portrayed the character in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” also informed 20th Century Fox has been working on a script and trying to find a director. The actor also claimed that he and the studio were working to make “Deadpool” as close as possible to the comic version, stating “The main goal is to make sure it stays close to the source material.”

Asked if he feels under pressure from fanboys of the comics, Reynolds answered, “I’m one of them. I’ve always been a fan, at least for the last eight or nine years. I feel a bit of validation because I knew going into Wolverine that there’s a huge fanbase for this and I don’t think anyone else did.”

Some would argue that it’s generic, that you know how it’ll end, or that it had too linear a storyline, but try as I might, I can’t seem to care because ‘TAKEN’ IS AWESOME. I watched it months ago off the French release, saw it again when it hit North American theatres and cheerfully carry it around on my iPod. I can’t even be a film snob about it; it’s just such a good time and Liam Neeson’s performance (mostly kicking and/or punching people in the face as he tears across Paris) is bad-ass. Here’s the news from Cinemablend.com:

Taken is getting a sequel, according to a tidbit dropped in the LA Times. The Liam Neeson lead thriller has already made $192 million worldwide and since it’s produced by French action director Luc Besson, you can bet it cost almost nothing to make.

For the sequel, it sounds like Besson and writer Robert Mark Kamen will again collaborate on the script. The question is how do you write a sequel script for a movie that seems as self-contained as this one?

You can’t kidnap his daughter or some other family member again, that’s too ridiculous. You can’t simply make it about the secret spy life being lived by Neeson’s Bryan Mills character either, that misses what made Taken so great in the first place. Taken works because Mills isn’t just a spy, he’s a spy with everything to lose, a spy with his powers completely unleashed in the pursuit of someone he loves. He’s a father, with all the protectiveness that implies towards a daughter, but with spy skills to back that up. I don’t see how you can possibly repeat any of that in another film. But Besson and Kamen forgot to ask me before they started working on a followup. Hopefully they have better ideas than I.

I loved Liam in Taken. If you saw the movie, you will know what I mean. Revenge is always sweet. Watch the Bourne Trilogy and let me know. Imagine if Liam was really Qui-Gon Jinn and he was seeking revenge as a Jedi….that would be freakin’ cool….

When Aliens vs. Predator was first announced, there were few who could have foreseen its success. Considered a shoddy, needless reinterpretation of two classic franchises, it was critically panned but managed to find great success as a cult hit and has now returned to the mainstream–at least in terms of the incredibly popular merchandise from Sideshow and McFarlane.

McFarlane’s Aliens vs. Predator collection features 6-inch and 12-inch figures, plus a dark-yet-whimsical Queen Alien Head-Knocker. The figures are of the high quality you’ve come to expect from McFarlane, featuring amazing levels of detail and paintwork. Fans of the film will definitely want to take a look at his expansive collection.

Kotobukiya’s Mini-busts and figurines are sure to please not only fans of the movies, but also those who have come to know and love the impressive stuff that Kotobukiya has produced in the past.

Sideshow Toys’ AVP figures and collectibles are yet more proof of how well the franchise has done in terms of getting its license to the best of the best design studios. Known for the incredibly accuracy and detail they bring to every line they produce, Sideshow’s AVP works are no exception.

4 G.I. Joe DS Screenshots Revealed

Gijoe1 Publisher Electronic Arts has unveiled a handful of screenshots from the upcoming Nintendo DS movie tie-in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra revealing a top-down gameplay style for the title.

I can’t say that I have high hopes for the game, given the hit-and-miss-and-miss-again track record of film to game translations, but maybe developing the title as a simple Robotron-style shooter could work.

It doesn’t leave much room for cerebral plotting or tense storytelling — the gameplay style traditionally appeals to gamers looking for non-stop frenetic action, and not much else — but with a property based on a cartoon series designed to target pre-adolescent boys, this could be a wise choice.

Unless you were expecting the upcoming film to rival Apocalypse Now for characterization and emotionally stirring themes. In which case, I get the feeling you’re in for a bit of disappointment.

It might not be as thrilling a game as my beloved Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, but I have a feeling I’ll give it a shot anyway. As Cavalli said, there aren’t a heck of a lot of good movie games, but we shall see how this one goes down and, hopefully, G.I. Joe’s history will make for a team of very passionate designers.

And besides the upcoming game, look out for a number of new G.I. Joe items from the film and as well as new additions to the already massive action figure collection…

When Sideshow announced a few years ago that they had obtained the James Bond license to make 12″ action figures, toy-minded 007 fans around the world emitted a collective shriek of joy that would have paralyzed Ernst Blofeld himself. The James Bond franchise has been around for forty years, and in that time toy facsimiles of the world’s most famous secret agent have not only been few and far between, they’ve also generally been lousy. Various small-sized figures of 007 have been issued throughout the years, some plastic, some metal, but most attempts of the ’60s and ’70s bore little resemblance to Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery or Roger Moore.

It’s arguable that no American company currently makes better 1/6 scale action figures than Sideshow Toy. Their facial sculpts, paint detail and costuming are second to none. While other manufacturers tend to make 12-inch figures with odd-looking shrunken heads and rubbery, translucent faces (namely, Toy Biz and 21^st Century Toys) or nice head sculpts that are indifferently painted and stuck on top of beefy, He-Man-style bodies with stumpy arms (that would be Hasbro), Sideshow markets their toys to adult collectors and consequently works very hard to make their action figures look like the actual human beings they’re supposed to resemble, meaning they have human proportions, realistic paint jobs and impeccable recreations of their real-life clothing. They also come with accessories that are often ingenious in their appropriateness.

Oh yeah, my least favorite Bond is Timothy Dalton.  Nuff Said.
