The thing is though, wearing red jeans can be tricky. They are so attention seeking, it’s important that the top doesn’t compete too much with the bottom. On the other hand you don’t want to be too boring!

As you can see on the right- the white t shirt and the jean jacket are a little too plain. Plus, the jean jacket sleeves are too long and the fit is too boxy. Finally, my red shoes are a little to ‘matchy, matchy’!

On the left is my reworked outfit. Here I’ve selected a blue and white silk tank with an interesting print. I layered it under a more fitted jacket and rolled the sleeves up.

I love the loose, flowy style of this tank because it allows my tummy plenty of room to breathe- and the jacket ads a layer of warmth and texture. To complete the look I chose my Stella and Dot statement necklace. As for my shoes, instead of the matching red shoes I chose my wedge loafers. Now I can wear socks and my feet are toasty warm.

When I think of twenties style, I automatically think of the flapper look, which was actually more popular in the sixties when the twenties style came back the first time. And it’s back again — knee length dresses, long pearls, loose shapes and plenty of beading. For my dreamed up twenties look, I updated the classic shape of a pencil skirt and loose, tucked in top with a pop of neon in the layered silk tanks. The cute gold bows on the pearl necklaces mirror the gold studs of the ladylike quilted bag. The style of the twenties was feminine and demure, so a nude pump and red lips finish the look. How do you re-imagine the twenties?

Am very happy because of the happy weather today so I shall post a happy outfit. Yeah I like this color palette a lot, nudes and beiges. Anyway my favorite item is a toss between the cardigan and the Miu Miu bracelet. Actually I’ve really been eyeing the bracelet and I want it quite badly but it looks very much like my Marc By Marc Jacobs bracelet and I don’t want two similar looking things. Oh well. But I really like the cardigan!! It’s so light and soft looking.

I didn’t expect to find another historical gem in the city so soon after mentioning the first library in Calgary in the last post. Well as luck, fate, or just plain coincidence would have it, I stumbled across what is known as the Rundle Ruins along 12th Avenue SE at 6th Street SE. A quick Google search (what would we do without Google!) and a click onto the Beltline Heritage Group website and I know now that it is the site of Calgary’s first major hospital and the second General Hospital built in 1894 and demolished in 1973. Any Calgary history buffs out there? Although I find history pretty fascinating, I’m no expert and would love to find more historical sites like this in the city.

I’ve been in a bit of a funk the last couple of days so to cheer myself up I pulled together a look composed of items that normally make me happy: boots, vests, silk tops, and nauticality. A cool photo location and a “happy” outfit is not a bad antidote for a funky mood! We can often fall into the trap of pairing the same tops and bottoms, recycling the same outfits over and over again. Pulling out your favorite items to create an outfit is actually a simple exercise in putting together new combinations of tops and bottoms. I probably wouldn’t have thought to wear the Hervé Léger-style skirt so casually with an open vest and boots, but I think it works and am happy with the end result and new look.

I must divulge a secret. Ok, maybe it’s not top secret because I’ve already told many people and I’m not the only one in a city of roughly one million that knows about this place. It’s my own (or I like to think it’s my own) rooftop patio oasis at the Mission Starbucks in Calgary, complete with music and heat lanterns for chilly summer evenings. I love to go to this hideout to enjoy an Americano, study, hang out, and people watch (extreme people watching available with zero creep factor!).

 Next, I pinned and hemmed the new bottom of my new top.  That’s it!  I was ready to enjoy a casual Friday.

Those shades totally make me look like a fly.

It’s definitely not my best work as far as dressing myself goes, but it was warm, and it was pretty comfortable, save for the shoes. And quite honestly, even on my shittiest dressed day, my outfit is generally about a couple of exponents better than my coworkers, who seem to have given up on any effort toward their appearance and general style.

If my life ever gets so busy/pathetic/frustrating that I just stop caring what my body/face/hair/posture/general attitude/demeanor looks like, you have my permission to kill me.
