Silvertide – Show and Tell (2004, J Records)

11. “Foxhole J.C.” – 5:23

Band:
Walt Lafty – Lead Vocals
Nick Perri – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Mark Melchiorre, Jr. – Guitar, Piano, Organ, Backing Vocals
Brian Weaver – Bass, Backing Vocals
Kevin Frank – Drums, Backing Vocals

Produced by: Dave Ivory & Oliver Leiber

Ugh. Hey, I have no problem against bluesy southern hard rock, it’s not my favorite sub genre, but I can deal. But this album just isn’t very good. It’s generic. In one ear and out the other.

One of my dislikes for this band stems from the fact that the local radio station where I was living at the time played “Ain’t Comin’ Home” NONSTOP. You’d swear the song went platinum based on 99 Rock airplay alone and the DJs wouldn’t shut up about them and about how it was a “real” rock record and “the best in years” and blah blah blah. I think 99 Rock practically had a collective orgasm when Silvertide came to play a show in the area.

Based on all of that hype, I bought the album for $9.99 at FYE and felt robbed!

Highlights: “Ain’t Comin’ Home” (despite hearing it a million times), “Devil’s Daughter”, “Blue Jeans”

World governments the churches and now even the United Nations want to ban punk, sleaze and glam metal

This site will take a stand ….so fight for our right to swear, spit, smoke, swagger, strut, shag, sip, sup, shine, shout, sniff and be SENSATIONAL

This is what ‘the man’ is complaining about…

‘He’ says:

· platform heels and stilettoes are a vertiginous health and safety risk
· Wearing a feather boa and a bipperty-bopperty hat to a works barbecue is considered to be a fire risk
· All those tattoos can cause anxiety and jealousy – especially amongst your less-well inked and less worthy colleagues
· Loud music can make the delicate bones in your ears vibrate uncontrollably until they explode
· Wearing make up can can cause serious esteem problems to those who live in a hall of mirrors
· Parading around in androgynous clothes can cause unwelcome gender mix-ups
· Wearing tight pants can cause infertility problems- unless the beast is frequently unleashed
· Hanging about in bars for excessively long periods can cause drowsiness and lethargy and even, eventually, unemployment
· Wearing cowboy boots to the office is fine but the spurs, bull-whips and bandoliers are now generally considered to be ‘offensive’
· Illegal sequin mine workers get a raw deal and are being exploited by glam gang-masters
· Wearing a black top hat in church is fine for Slash (when he is playing at a November wedding in the rain,) but it causes great offence at funerals

Et cetera Et Cetera Et cetera….

Don’t let the world governments get you down

Don’t worry about the churches having a right old moan. Ignore your boss, your ex, the nosy neighbour, your uppity older sister and all the folk down the Salvation Army hall …cos no one can stop you STOP YOU HAVING A GOO-OOD TIME!!!

Because we are the children of the revolution and we were born to boogie.
In the rock and roll year of our lord we came dancin’ right outta the womb… this is our time… homo-sapiens have outgrown their use…. better make way for the Homo Superior

This is our punk sleaze and glam metal manifesto designed to save the world:

‘We’ say:

· Never mind the bo££ocks
· Look hot
· Be cool
· Its all about the music
· Paa-arrty
· Party, Party
· Loud

THIS SITE will be give you the PUNK, SLEAZE & GLAM METAL news HOT OFF THE PRESS (or a few days afterwards- depending on the size of our hangovers) so LOG IN, BLOG IN and BLOCK OUT the cruel world

Forgive me if I sound like a complete and utter amateur to the whole music scene in this entry. I

Forgive me if I sound like a complete and utter amateur to the whole music scene in this entry. I’ve only been recently introduced to good music the past year and I can’t believe how much I’ve missed out during my high school years. I would credit my recent obsession to Deegs (especially Deegs!), Ming, Rocky, Wenning, Jack, Jose, Mike etc. etc. There are only a few things in the world that interest me and I tend to give a half-hearted effort to things that don’t particularly catch my attention (for example… school! ahahaha). But music… what can I say…

I’m an obsessive addict and I haven’t felt this good in years.

Listening to Tool gets my heart racing and pumping like never before. I fall asleep with a smile on my face listening to The Smiths, Ride, and Silvertide. I dream of rocking out with Alice in Chains with my air guitar (ahahaha)! Hell, I might even walk to the local liquor store and get some cigarettes and chocolate milk and chill to Rufus Wainwright.

I wouldn’t mind telling Miley Cyrus the seven things I hate about her either (though it would be rude of me of course). Damn teenie boppers.

But after all things considered (my increasing 100gb+ external hard drive filled with mp3s and the recent disappearance of blank CDs around the house), Radiohead is, by far, the greatest rock band to grace my virgin ears.

I can’t really pin point why Radiohead is my favorite band. There are so many things about Radiohead I love so much. I admit I didn’t like Radiohead as much as I do now the first time I heard ‘Creep‘ but this summer, after listening to ‘2 + 2 = 5′ for the fifth time in the same hour, something just clicked and I can’t stop listening to them. Maybe it’s the lyrics (any song that references Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novel ‘Notes from Underground‘ automatically wins in my book) or the perfect combination of electronic music, jazz, and rock makes me melt in joy.

But their is one thing I won’t do and probably can’t do. I can’t really compare Radiohead to anything I’ve ever heard before. I know how some people say that Radiohead was influenced by like The Beatles or whatever but they sound nothing alike. There is something about the melodic and ominous voice of Thom and the virtuoso performances of Johnny, Ed, Colin, and Phil which transcends mere thought and into something more.

But this could just be me being overly crazy about random things. You should of seen me when I was eight. I was a crazy Pokemon and Power Rangers fanboy.

Then again, Radiohead does have a bit more substance than Pokemon and Power Rangers.

Ok, so it’s been a while. I promise to be better about this thing and maybe in the not-so-distant future I will even do a WEEKELY update! Yeah, I know, keep talkin’!!!!

Anyways, I have been REALLY diggin’ two new groups these days. Both of these groups have released two of the most ass kickin’ rockin’ albums of 2005 in my opinion.

First up:

SILVERTIDE

These guys have put out an album called “Show & Tell” and I was absolutely floored when I heard this album. The opening track “I Ain’t Comin’ Home” has all the elements of a classic rock song. Attitude, volume, tongue in cheek lyrics, it’s fucking AWESOME! If I had to describe them, just take everything that’s GOOD about classic Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Bon Scott era AC/DC, subtract about 30 years off those guys, and you have Silvertide.Go buy this album. My fave tracks off of this one are “I Ain’t Comin’ Home”, “California Rain”, and “Blue Jeans”. Trust me, if you like to rock out every now and then, or all the time for that matter, this is the album to do it to!

This album makes me wanna drink Budweiser and smoke Marlboro Reds again!!!!

================================================

Next up:

Much like my boys Silvertide, these cats are a bunch of youngens who have been chosen by the almighty God of Rock to bring the rock to the masses. These dudes are a bit more subdued than Silvertide. While I would call Silvertide a “party drinkin’ band”, I would call American Minor a “stoner thinkin’ band”!I found these guys to be a bit more mature than their age in their songwriting and execution of the songs. These guys are a bit harder to describe but it’s just really good solid rock and roll. Their opening song “Walk On” is a straight ahead delivery of rock if you could “Get Your Wings” era Aerosmith. Matter of fact, if Aerosmith would’ve smoked more weed instead of snorting coke, this is probably what they could’ve sounded like. And to be honest, I probably would’ve liked them better.

The songs on their self-titled album are the same ones that were present on their debut “Buffalo Creek” E.P with an additional number of tracks. There is absolutely no filler on this album. My choice tracks off of this one are “Walk On”, “Cheaters and Non Believers”, “Buffalo Creek” and “Sleepwalking”.

================================================

There ya go. Two REALLY solid albums that I feel no rock and roll lover should be without. You can thank me now but just go out and buy these damned albums. They’ll rip your face off!
