I was just about to compare our current left back conundrum to the one of the 2005 -2006 season. You know the season where like 9 different players played in that position. And just as I was about to research the names the news came up about Gibbs. Incidentally if you are feeling a little curious, feel free to post the names below of those elite band of players.

It turns out Gibbs didn’t fracture any bone in his foot but rather merely “sustained severe bruising to the bones and soft tissue of his right foot”. The author of this post, yours truly is no medical expert but reckons that Kieran probably won’t make the the trip up to Sunderland. He’ll be back for the game against Chelsea if not the midweek Champions League game.

This leads to question the credibility of the media. First we had the Sun and the Daily Mail’s knee jerk reporting that Van Persie would not play again this season. The Guardian then joined the party by claiming that Gibbs was “suspected…(to) have broken a metatarsal.”

Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, the term we were looking for is “telling porkies”.

Not that I’m advising the Guardian or any other media platform on how they should do their job but maybe a quote from a certain someone qualified on the story would help? That is how it is meant to be right? Co-incidentally (before I heard about this story), I took out a book from my city library today called ‘Ethics and Journalism’ by Karen Sanders.

One of the quotes I’ve come across so far,

Journalism matters..(It) contributes to the business of telling us who we are, interpreting the world for us, making it intelligible.

 On the evidence presented above that quote, that isn’t in a good way is it?

Eduardo Da “Hitman” Silva signs a new “long-term” contract

Good news, as it means Eduardo will feel more secure about his future, thus instilling a new wave of confidence. It also squashes that ridiculous Liverpool rumour in the News of the World. You can read more about Eduardo’s contract on the official website.

Couple of unrelated observations on that photograph. Where exactly is Gazidis’ hand? Also, did Eduardo take fashion tips from that Gok Wan dude, with that purple? collar?

Silvestre and Sunderland

Coming back to the Gibbs news, I believe Silvestre could feature against Sunderland. Many people, including me, would rather see Traore but it is an away game and right now we need experience. That is what Silvestre has in abundance and no player is downright awful if he gives a team like Utd 9 years of service. And he is a left back.

Finally proof that Sunderland is a small club. This was a story running on their website. Shall we guess the thought process in this story? “OMG, Another Arsenal injury, let us post it up because our fans don’t care about our own injuries anyway.” Me thinks another one to feature on Gibbs’ CV as Sunderland see him as big enough a player to write about on their own website.

Last Englishman Not Standing

There’s another new name added to the injury list after the conclusion of the England U-21 game last night when Kieran Gibbs limped out of the game after just 20 odd minutes. I do not know for sure the extend of his injury but if it really is a broken metatarsal, it would mean April or May as his return date, which will also effectively mean an early end to what was supposed to be a promising season for me. I’ve seen many others during Wenger’s time that shone for a couple of months but succumbed to injury and was never to be seen again. I hope this is not the case with Gibbs.

It’s a big blow to the young English boy who I thought could really show the world his talent now that the first choice left back, Gael Clichy is also out injured for a long period of time. This was suppose to be 10 – 20 consecutive first team games for him but fate took an unfortunate turn. Perhaps now, even small tiny hope that he has to make Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad is finally diminished. He shouldn’t be too dispirited though as time is very much on his side.

If anything, this injury will not impact Arsenal as much as RVP’s one. Left back is the one position which Wenger is well-stocked in. Besides the aforementioned Clichy, there’s also Silvestre and Traore that would be an immediate replacement. Other than those two, we also could play Vermaelen there (as he normally operates for Ajax), Eboue is not alien to that role and neither is Sagna. Wenger has stated before that he will not mess with the centerback pairing which leaves us with the French duo.

Silvestre will offer the stability in terms of defense but I doubt his weary legs can anything further forward. Maybe on set-pieces but definitely not any foraging runs. His pace at this age is also suspect. So, if we do play against opposition with pacy wingers like Valencia of Man United. Other than that I have no complains. He is definitely not my favourite player in the team but with him in the team we could have 3 central defenders when defending against set-pieces.

Meanwhile Traore offers something similar to Gibbs. His loan spell last season at Portsmouth saw him being deployed usually as a left winger, so it’s safe to say that his pace and trickery on the ball will give us an outlet on the left. However it’s been a while since he has played in the left back position. Even during the 3rd round Carling Cup tie against West Brom, he was in the midfield role and not as a left back. Just like Gibbs, his concentration may wander, which could be harmful if the ball is played over his head.

However there’s really nothing to lose by unleashing Traore. His pace alone allows him the chance to recover quickly even when the opponent is through. Potentially, he could still blossomed into a very good player while Silvestre is on a downhill trek from the peak. Sunderland will be a good start.

Then again, Eddie Murphy wannabe Eboue could easily fill the slot as well.

Todavía recuerdo aquellos lejanos días de octubre del año dos mil ocho. Estábamos en la recta final: doce años de esfuerzo al fin verían sus frutos. Por ese entonces nuestro curso, de humanidades, estudiaba epistemologia y los diversos tipos de posiciones filosóficas respecto al conocimiento. El trabajo final consistía en armar un debate defendiendo nuestra postura.

Escogí el escepticismo. Un año atrás me dio lo que le debe ocurrir a cualquiera que no elabora un duelo adecuadamente: un joven creyente, pero apático de pronto se transformó en un  ateo furibundo negando a Dios sólo porque no escuchó sus ruegos para salvar a una amiga de la leucemia. A tal punto llegaba su rabia que muchas veces rozaba el insulto a su madre sólo porque esta creía en Dios. Y evidentemente allí tuve mi primer encuentro con este concepto.

Obviamente la rabia ya se me había pasado, y con ello mi ateísmo militante de goma. Pero aún así estaba curioso. El escepticismo se anunciaba una y otra, y otra vez. Leía definiciones de qué era, muchas de las cuales me parecían bastante contradictorias, aunque todas coincidían en un punto: el mundo esta invadido por la irracionalidad y el escepticismo era la forma de combatirla… porque había que combatirla.

Llegó el momento en que debía investigar. Partí con aquel desconocido libro titulado “Teoria del Conocimiento” de Johan Hessen. El libro era una muy buena epítome de que era en realidad la teoría del conocimiento. Básicamente los problemas del conocimiento son cuatro: ¿Podemos conocer? El conocimiento ¿Viene de mí o viene de la realidad? ¿Como es este conocimiento? ¿La realidad o sólo su percepción? ¿Qué es la verdad? El autor exponía las respuestas a cada una de estas preguntas, explicando sus problemas y sus ventajas. Al final quien decidía cual era más apropiada.

El escepticismo era una respuesta a primera pregunta. Surgió tras el dogmatismo como su opuesto. Para evitar confusiones y sesgos diremos que el dogmatismo no es la creencia que no admite réplica, sino que la absoluta confianza en que el ser humano puede conocer efectivamente la realidad. El escepticismo como su contrario negaba eso, al menos en su forma temprana. Afirmaba que no era posible el conocimiento, desconfiando totalmente en el hombre y en sus sentidos. Curioso: el propio planteamiento en sí era una contradicción. Así que evolucionó y en vez de desconfiar totalmente ahora duda, pero admitiendo posibilidad de conocimiento. Este es el escepticismo académico, aquel que en la Wikipedia en español te lo venden como “escepticismo científico” siendo un planteamiento más viejo que la propia ciencia tal y como la conocemos.

El debate debía incluir un ejemplo de una ciencia que usase el escepticismo en su corpus o método. Así que cerré el libro de tio Hessen; ya me había ayudado bastante, muchas gracias. Ahora le tocaba a Google hacer su parte. Tecleé  en la caja del buscador no recuerdo cuantas palabras, pero siempre “escepticismo” aparecía ligado con “homeopatia” “religión” “pseudociencia” e “irracionalidad”  ¿Acaso Hessen se equivocaba? El escepticismo en español no aparecía ya como una posición filosófica de la teoría del conocimiento. Ahora resulta que para varios  esta cosa era una herramienta, un método de obtener conocimient (¿?), una forma de vida (¡!)

Demás está decir que tuve que improvisar al no encontrar ejemplo adecuado (en inglés la cosa era algo similar, o estaba en un lenguaje que mi cutre inglés no dominaba). Por fortuna salí victorioso del debate y obtuve buena calificación.

Resulta que al parecer hay dos escepticismos: aquel que era doctrina filosófica respecto a un determinado problema y aquel que te venden en la internet. Lo llamo “Escepticismo de supermercado”:  te lo venden ya limpio, cortado y pulido, como la fruta de los anaqueles. Si el escepticismo original es como la naranja que se obtiene tras cuidar al naranjo durante años, el escepticismo de supermercado es aquel donde todo se ve bonito y no haces mayor esfuerzo, excepto cuando las metes a la bolsa. La diferencia entre una y otra es que la primera la conoces, te ha costado esfuerzo, sacrificio, aprendizaje. La segunda no. La sacas porque se ve bonita pero ¿quien sabe qué porquería usaron para dejarla así?

Si la naranja escéptica original crece llena de vitamina duda, la naranja de supermercado viene casi a reventar de vitamina negación, haciéndola muy grande y muy pesada. Muchos ven en ella una pelota llena de hiel, otros en cambio vemos que tal fruta nunca fue naranja, sino que era un pomelo. Muy dulce  y muy amargo.

Este escepticismo de supermercado tiene la gracia de que se promociona de una manera algo mesiánica. Son “La visión crítica, racional, humanista” o “una herramienta que usted usa a diario” aunque yo creo que en realidad lo que uso a diario es más bien sentido común. Tienen una especie de obsesión por lo “paranormal” (¿eh?), por la  ”irracionalidad” y las “pseudociencias” y las “creencias religiosas”  que por supuesto consideran los grandes males de la humanidad, aunque no tengan ni idea de que es la “razón” al menos en nivel filosófico, consideren lo paranormal como una estúpidez (Pero les obsesiona, cosa que me parece curiosa, al igual que las religiones que se las toman muy en serio, muy en broma)

Y etcétera.

Mientras que la naranja crecida a mano se pudre…

The journey continues for Wenger and Arsenal as they knock Liverpool out in the fourth round Carling Cup clash at Ashburton Grove. As it often is with the second cup competition in England, Wenger put his faith in the lesser lights of his squad. Silvestre took the armband with Senderos as his centerback partner in front of the returning Fabianski. Gibbs and Gilbert completing the back four. There was a minor shock in midfield as Eastmond made his competitive debut for Arsenal, although many have expected (including myself) that Coquelin would take the Song role. With the former are the impressive Ramsey and Merida. Meanwhile the front trio was the most experience of the lot as Wenger fielded Nasri, Bendtner and Eduardo in the same lineup.

A quick wrap up of the goals. From an Arsenal throw in, Gilbert lost the ball and won it again, as the ball dropped nicely for Fran Merida to smack a wonderful shot from the edge of the box straight at goal. The Liverpool goalkeeper had no chance as the ball clipped the post and into the net. Liverpool equalised when Insua benefited from the lack of marking by volleying the ball over Fabianski. Then right at the start of the second half, Merida turned provider as he played a nice through ball for Bendtner and Ramsey, who were both arriving at the penalty box. Maybe luckily, the latter both combined for Bendtner to score with his sky high shot that turned out to be the winning goal.

Overall, it was a very good performance by a very young Arsenal midfield. Eastmond was disciplined and showed on more than one occasion that he is on par if not better than Coquelin. Tough and always assured in his tackling, his ball control and distribution was superb, very little nerves shown in his very first match for the first team. Both fullbacks, Gibbs and especially Gilbert was the pick of the bunch as they had to contend with guarding Kuyt and Babel respectively for this game. Gibbs was bubbly as usual and sometimes got caught with the ball over the top but always using his pace to good effect to recover. While Babel will not be proud of himself today as Gilbert was a towering figure over him today. Incisive interception from Gilbert ensured that Babel did not get a look in at all today.

It is not often that I will say this but I think Silvestre played his best game for Arsenal today. There were several misplaced passes in the center of midfield which could’ve allowed Liverpool a free run at goal but the aging Frenchman was always first to win the subsequent tackle cleanly and cut the threat out. On this match alone, I salute you Mikael. His partner in crime, Senderos also did well although to be honest, with the fullbacks that good tonight, there wasn’t much for him to do. There was a shout for handball during the final moments but credit to the referee who saw it as ball hitting hand rather than the other way round.

In midifield, Merida played his part with a goal and an assist. Always tidy and aware of the movement of those around him. As for Ramsey, I think he caught the Arshavin disease. When he was on the ball, he always use it to good effect with one or two misplaced ones but off the ball, he was just plain horrible. Playing with just the 3 in midfield always requires discipline to support and help contain counter attacks but Ramsey looks disinterested and never chased back any balls that he lost. Luckily, in those situations there was Silvestre. Attacking good but will need more work in the training ground for his defensive duties.

Nasri completed his first 90 minutes for Arsenal this season and considering that, he put in a very good shift. He took it on his own to control Arsenal’s game tonight. Always available for the ball and opening up the game for his teammates. Eduardo also played the full 90 was always going to find it hard going up alone against Skrtel but did well and in one incident managed to wriggle his way past 2 Liverpool defenders but dragged his shot wide when he had no runners from midfield. In truth, Bendtner could’ve had more than just the one goal tonight but the consistency that he always pops up for the final ball will put him in good stead for the future. You can’t score if you don’t get into those positions anyway, so the goals will come.

Randall and Watt came on late in the match but did nothing much although the latter had a chance to score but was out-muscled by Skrtel. Wenger’s faith paid off and with all quaterfinal qualifiers from the Premier League, the exposure that is to be gained for the younger players cannot be underestimated.

The next batch of graduates are already coming along just fine. Hoped you enjoyed it as much as I do.

As you can see neither happened but better late than never. It was Wenger’s 60th birthday and what better reason for a few lists? 15 great signings, 15 poor signings, 15 memorable games and 15 great goals (plus a few extra chucked in). Enjoy!

Arsene Who?

15 Great Signings:

1. Patrick Vieira – A relatively unknown player before he joined from AC Milan, Wenger got Arsenal to sign him before he joined himself. A decade of midfield dominance, spats with Roy Keane and the Neviller and countless trophies followed. Managed to get £14 million from Juve once his knees were knackered too.

2. Thierry Henry – 369 games, 226 goals. Best player in the Premier League for about five years.

3. Freddie Ljungberg – His red hair, his run of form in the 2001/02 season after Pires got injured, his debut goal against Man Utd, those underwear ads. A great player until his hip injury.

It gave him his power.

4. Nicolas Anelka – He left on bad terms but the money received bought Henry and Pires. The first example of Wenger buying cheap and making ridiculous profit. £22.5million profit in this case.

5. Marc Overmars - He was almost too good for Arsenal while he was there and it was no surprise to see Barcelona snap him up for £25million. Scored the winner at Old Trafford in 1998 that helped overcome a 12 point deficit and was generally very, very quick.

6. Robert Pires – His form in 2001/02 earnt him Footballer of the Year honours and he was arguably just as good in 2003/04. Scored a silly amount of goals from the wing, ran oddly, had a cool goatee strip thing  and apparently knew the French for va va voom. Always felt he left too early as Wenger wouldn’t give him a two year deal. Still doing the business at Villarreal.

7. Cesc Fabregas – Pinched from Barcelona, and will probably head back there one day but for now has developed into one of the best midfielders in the world. Perhaps the prime example of Wenger buying a young player and making him world class. Club captain at 22, the best is yet to come.

8. Andrey Arshavin – Probably the first current world class player Wenger has bought. Has already made a significant impact in his short time at the Emirates, even if he can be a right lazy bugger sometimes.

9. Jens Lehmann – He was immense in 2005/06 when battling to be ahead of Kahn for Germany. Also provided much hilarity as well as the odd moment of madness in his five years at the club.

10. Emmanuel Petit – ‘He’s blond, he’s quick, his name’s a porno flick. Emmanuel, Emmanuel.’ Had one of the funnier chants of recent times. Signed as a centre back, made a midfielder – he formed a fearsome partnership with Patrick Vieira for three short seasons.

11. Sol Campbell - You can’t beat signing your local rival’s captain on a free transfer.

12. Lauren – Hard. As. Nails. An ice cool penalty taker too.

13. Kolo Toure - Bought for £150K. Sold after seven years for £16million. Was fantastic at centre back until he got malaria and developed a fat arse.

14. Kanu – Ridiculous skills. Could do things with a ball you never thought possible.

15. Robin van Persie – Absolutely loves to blast it. As a result has scored some brilliant goals in his time at Arsenal.

15 Not So Great Signings:

1. Alberto Mendez – Bought from the mighty FC Feucht. I remember reading Wenger could have bought the whole club for the £250K he paid for Mendez. Made no impact.

2. Nelson Vivas – Cost Arsenal the title in 1999 with his mistake for Hasselbaink’s  winner vs Leeds late on in the season. Always got booked too.

3. Igors Stepanovs – Man Utd 6-1 Arsenal is all you need to know.

4. Francis Jeffers – The supposed fox in the box managed four league goals from 2001-04, a time when Arsenal scored by the bucketload. It would have helped if he’d played more than 22 times. £8million he cost!

5. Pascal Cygan – Wasn’t that bad but I remember how I used to shudder every time I saw his name on the team sheet. If you though Vidic had a slow turning circle…

6. Mickael Silvestre – Why? What purpose does he serve? He won’t even get a link.

Just retire already...

7. Tomas Danilevicius – A headbutt in a pre-season seems to ring a bell but that might have been after he left for Dunfermline. Played twice, didn’t score. The kind of random Wenger gamble where you wish we’d just saved the £1m.

8. Jeremie Aliadiere - Still only 26, he pissed about at Arsenal for eight long years, never learning from any of the amazing strikers at the club and scoring one league goal in his time. You always knew Wenger was basically giving away a game when Aliadiere started up front.

9. Jose Reyes – A bit dim, which meant he was the victim of many a prank. Involved in the Aragones ‘black shit’ saga too which meant his Arsenal career was over before it began given that Henry hated him. Scored a great debut goal against Chelsea though.

10. Amaury Bischoff – Normally Arsenal sign midfielders and then injure them. They tried the opposite and bought someone already injured. Needless to say he left after a year. He did play a game apparently.

11. Christopher Wreh – George Weah’s cousin. The family talent had obviously been diluted. Did score a couple of important goals in the 1997/98 season to be fair.

12. Kaba Diawara – All I remember was that he never scored, hit the post several times and was then still sold back to France for half a million profit.

13. Richard Wright – Big ears, crap goalkeeper.

14. Abou Diaby – There has to be someone current. Possibly the most frustrating player I’ve seen. could be excellent. Isn’t.

15. Rami Shaaban – Just where does he find these keepers from?!

1. Arsenal 1-2 Man Utd 14/04/99 – The one with everything, but especially the Arsenal missed penalty that would give Man Utd the momentum for the treble.

A good but overrated goal. Also, I didn't want to inflict the Giggs rug on you.

2. Man Utd 0-0 Arsenal 21/09/03 - The one where Ruud missed a penalty and Arsenal started their 49 game unbeaten run.

3. Barcelona 2-1 Arsenal 17/05/06 – The one where they were 14 minutes from being Champions of Europe.

4. Arsenal 2-1 Leicester 15/05/04 – The one where they went the season undefeated.

5. Real Madrid 0-1 Arsenal 21/02/06 – The one were they beat Real Madrid on their own patch.

6. Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal 08/04/08 – The one where they were robbed in the Champions League.

7. Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea 06/04/04 – The one where they dominated three of the four halves but still got knocked out.

8. Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea 04/05/02 – The one where they won their second double in four years.

9. Man Utd 0-1 Arsenal 08/05/02 – The one where they won the league in Manchester.

10. Inter 1-5 Arsenal 25/11/03 – The one where they produced the most unexpected scoreline I’d seen in years.

15 Memorable Goals (in no particular order):

1. Thierry Henry vs Man Utd 30/09/00. Probably the first classic Henry Arsenal goal. He was just on the cusp of dominating the Premier League when he scored this.

2. Tony Adams vs Everton 03/05/98. Conclusive proof that Arsenal had shed their boring tag. Steve Bould chipped, yes chipped a through ball to Tony Adams who chested it before smashing a left foot volley home. The goal that sealed Wenger’s first title.

3. Dennis Bergkamp vs Newcastle 02/03/02. I remember people at the time saying he didn’t mean this. Fools.

4. Robert Pires vs Southampton 07/05/03. I think this gets underrated as it was a meaningless game before the 2003 Cup Final but few players could have done such a lob with three touches let alone one.

5. Ray Parlour vs Chelsea 04/05/02. Romford Pele scored few but when he did they were usually special. Tim Lovejoy gets slated to this day for saying ‘Oh, it’s only Ray Parlour’ just before he scored.

6. Dennis Bergkamp vs Sunderland 15/01/97. The non-flying Dutchman scored many an amazing goal for Arsenal but his trademark was opening up his body and curling one round the keeper into the top corner from about 25 yards. Like this.

7. Robert Pires vs Aston Villa 17/03/02. Any goal that makes Peter Schmeichel look silly gets the thumbs up from me. Pires was quite possibly the best player in Europe in the spring of 2002.

8. Freddie Ljungberg vs Juventus 04/12/01. I remember being at work during this match and trying to check my phone for text updates. Little did I know what a special goal I’d see when I got home. Just watch Bergkamp’s skill again and again and again…

9. Eduardo vs Burnley 08/03/09. Out for a year and he comes back with this. Quite recent but no less special for it.

10. Thierry Henry vs Spurs 16/11/02. Hmm how to wind up your rivals? I know, run 75 yards, dribbling past half the team before scoring, and then run all the way back and celebrate in front of the Spurs fans. Nice.

11. Dennis Bergkamp vs Leicester 27/08/97. One third of the greatest hat-trick in Premier League history.

12. Robin Van Persie vs Charlton 30/09/06. Trust me, he didn’t shin it. Well not on purpose anyway.

13. Ray Parlour vs Valencia 04/04/01. Back when Valencia and John Carew used to screw Arsenal over every couple of years there were many a disappointing night in Europe. This special from Ray Parlour however resulted in one of the most mental celebrations I’ve ever witnessed in pub.

14. Emmanuel Adebayor vs Villarreal 07/04/09. Yes he’s a prick but there’s no denying this was a great goal. The last good thing he did in an Arsenal shirt.

15. Thierry Henry vs Liverpool 09/04/04. Dumped out of the FA Cup and Champions League in consecutive games to Man Utd and Chelsea of all teams, Arsenal were 2-1 down at half-time at home to Liverpool with an unbeaten record to protect. Pires quickly equalised, before Henry gave Carragher the runaround for an amazing third. He’d complete his hat-trick later on and Arsenal went on to win the league unbeaten.

Por ahí leí alguna vez la pregunta de un lector que decía “¿existirá un lugar donde la marihuana crezca libre y sola? Pues he aquí la respuesta: Nepal, un país de donde proviene parte del mejor cannabis del mundo y como no, si estos nepalies tienen cannabis creciendo hasta en el borde de una carretera. Mujeres de España, nos la quieren meter doblada. Nos están intentando engañar de una manera que salta a la vista. Es que acaso piensan que somos tontas y ciegas?? Cómo puede ser que los creadores de una serie que ha tenido tanto éxito en nuestro país, busquen como sustituto del narcotraficante más guapo y sexy de la televisión, o sea nuestro querido y amado Duque, a uno que no le llega ni a la suela de los zapatos.

Yo puedo entender que la búsqueda ha tenido que ser muy difícil, ya que el listón estaba bastante alto. Pero es que no es lo mismo, no no no y no, no es lo mismo. Que no me intenten vender la película de que este tío es igual que Miguel Ángel Silvestre, porque para nada.

Este domingo pasado pudimos ver el estreno del primer capítulo de la tercera temporada de “Sin tetas no hay paraíso”, y todavía estoy impactada de la actuación con la que nos deleitó. De repente aparece en bañador, el cual tengo que decir que le quedaba como el culo. Llevaba un peinado que ni el mafioso de mi barrio se pondría, casi no se le entendía al hablar porque no sabia poner el tono de voz de narco chulo y sexy, y para colmo el grupo de hombres de confianza que le han puesto alrededor son igual o más patéticos si cabe. Dónde han quedado esos personajes que te hacían creerte la historia como “El Pertu” y “El Gitano”. La trama ya no es igual, no tiene sentido que muera el protagonista y te saques de la manga una continuación que no tiene ni pies ni cabeza. Hay veces en las que hay que pensar que es mejor cerrar una historia aunque sea con un final trágico, que cagarla de una forma tan grande por intentar seguir ganando dinero con la audiencia. Si el prota decide irse al final de la segunda temporada porque no quiere encasillarse en el personaje, y porque quiere probar suerte en el cine, pues tú te aguantas y no te inventas algo parecido a una continuación pero de forma cutre. En fin que fue un fraude. 

Lo peor es que telecinco nos llevaba vendiendo tanto en internet como en televisión que la nueva temporada sería lo máximo, y que el fichaje estrella era la caña. Venga yaaaaa.

Yo no tengo nada en contra del actor Alfonso Baptista “El Gato”, que está interpretando al nuevo narcotraficante llamado Guillermo Mejía, pero desde aquí decirte que tu actuación ha sido horrible. Te viene grande el papel, no pegas ni con cola en este tipo de personajes. Vuelve a montarte en el caballo para irte a ligar con los gavilanes, pero no vengas a querer hacernos creer que eres un seductor en toda regla, con el que estaríamos encantadas de pasar una noche de pasión. Que quede claro que para nada. No hay punto de comparación entre El Duque y tú. Él era moreno, sexy, ponía una voz que hacía que se te pusieran los pelos de gallina, actuaba de una forma brutal, los trajes de chaqueta le quedaban de muerte…. y así podría estar horas y horas diciendo lo guapo que es y lo bien que hace el papel. Él hizo que la historia tuviera sentido. Pero ahora apareces tú, poniendo una voz de no sé de qué es exactamente, con tu pelo rubito mal peinado, un tic raro que no entendí, con un tatuaje horrendo y algo barrigón. No es nada personal, sólo critico el personaje y la forma de interpretarlo. Pero agradezco que te apodes El gato, así el título de mi post me viene como anillo al dedo. Nunca el dicho “no me intentes dar gato por liebre” tuvo tanto sentido.

Yo siempre me he calificado como una gran seguidora de esta serie, le he dado la oportunidad de ver si podía seguir estando interesante aún teniendo una baja tan importante, pero no puedo seguir siendo fan. Me ha defraudado de una forma tan grande, que este post se me queda pequeño para todas las barbaridades que podría escribir.

Por último sólo me queda decir, que sin El Duque ya nada es igual. Espero que te vaya muy bien en tu nueva andadura en el cine. Los que supimos apreciar tu actuación y quisimos a tu personaje, no podemos continuar viendo esta farsa en la que se ha convertido sin ti. Te queremos MAS.

El Duque vs. El Gato = No existe punto de comparación para mí. Sin duda es mucho mejor mi Duque.

Ayer jueves fui por primera vez al parque Warner y me lo pasé genial.

Había una promoción para los usuarios que usan facebook para conseguir una entrada gratuita, yo fui una de las que aprovechó la promoción, y fui ayer. Para acceder al recinto bastaba con presentar la validación de facebook y tu dni, entrabas directamente con una entrada a 0 euros, un mapa del sitio y un folleto con los horarios de los espectáculos. Fui muy ilusionada pensando que me encontraría a mis queridos kawais Looney Tunes, pero ciertamente estaba desierto, no vi ningún personaje fuera de su caseta. Luego leí en la hoja de espectáculos, que salen cada hora en la Hollywood Boulevard y en Cartoon Village.

Pensé que haría mucho calor y que me asaría (como cuando fui al Zoo de madrid) pero la verdad es que al llegar al parque, me encontré con la sorpresa de que hay fuentes y atracciones acuáticas en las que puedes mojarte un rato y olvidarte del sol.

Así que me puse a ver los horarios de los espectáculos, como fui a medio día, no llegue a ver las funciones de la mañana, así que me puse a montarme en algunas atracciones: la casa de Scooby-Doo, las Tazas de Scooby-Doo, Los carros de la mina, Hotel Embrujado… y algunos mas que no recuerdo. Después de comer me fui a ver los espectáculos, el primero fue “Fantasía Warner” no me pareció muy interesante, a 5 minutos de terminar el show por fin aparecieron Piolín, Silvestre, el pato Lucas y Bugs Bunny bailando, me hizo mucha gracia especialmente Piolín, ondeando las manitas a modo de cabaret, era muy kawaiiii ^_^

Ya era la hora de ver a los muñecos en Cartoon Village, y cuando fui no vi ninguno, me enfadé muchísimo y me fui a otro espectáculo: en el teatro chino vi una proyección en 3D, me aburrió bastante el argumento. Cuando salí de ahí fui a hacer cola para ver el espectáculo de Batman, una cola bastante larga. Se trata de una adaptación de la película Batman Begins. El show no estaba mal, aunque yo me esperaba más, quizás me parecieron muy falsas las peleas. Lo que si me sorprendió fue el batmovil y el doblaje, que es el de la película. Una vez terminó el show fui corriendo otra vez a Hollywood Boulevard para ver a los muñecos y por fín vi a Jerry, se me encencieron los ojos y me fui corriendo a hacerme una foto con él. Son muy simpáticos, abrazan, bailan, posan y lanzan besos a todo aquel que intenta hacerse una foto con él. Más tarde vino Tom también, igual de simpático. Me extrañó que solo hubieran 2 personajes y que tengamos que esperar 1 hora cada vez que queremos ver algún muñeco. Así que pregunté al personal del parque: “¿Veremos algún muñeco más?” Y me contestó: “Sí, a las 20.30 soltaremos más” Yo muy contenta miré la hora y mi sorpresa fue que aún faltaba una hora. “¿CÓMO? De verdad hay que esperar 1 hora para ver a 2 muñecos más?” Y ya harta de esperar para ver muñequitos, me cogi el tren y me fui a casa.

Es decir, que está bien el parque pero está bastante descuidado, algunas atracciones estaban cerradas, pensé que me encontraría muñecos danzando y bailando todo el rato por las calles, y el merchandising y la comida es en general bastante cara. Pero aún así, yo me lo pasé genial.

El cultivo de los hongos, por su gran complejidad, no ha seguido el desarrollo humano a lo largo de los tiempos. El hombre, fue primero recolector, más tarde dominó la agricultura y la ganadería, pero sin embargo, hoy día tan sólo se cultivan, desde el punto de vista gastronómico/medicinal, muy pocos hongos en comparación con las especies vegetales; sin olvidar, otras aplicaciones, como la producción de antibióticos, en silviculltura (micorrizas), en procesos fermentativos (alcohol), etc.

Actualmente, la curiosidad que despiertan las virtudes gastronómicas de los hongos y el disfrute del medio natural, ocasiona un aumento de su consumo. Estas especies silvestres dependen para su fructificación de condiciones climáticas adecuadas (humedad y temperatura, etc.), pueden presentar un gran valor gastronómico, ser abundantes o escasas, y recogidas por aficionados o profesionales que las comercializan. Por tanto, para evitar problemas ambientales e intoxicaciones, la recogida de hongos en el campo, tiene que regularizarse legalmente de manera adecuada.

El cultivo de hongos, por ello, se presenta como una alternativa a la demanda social de consumo, que se ha extendido con el avance tecnológico, y que permite disponer en cualquier lugar de sabrosos ejemplares, de óptima calidad y fuera de temporada

The Section About Adebayor

It is the season to be crazy.
And crazy it has been.
Ronaldo shipped away for an alarming figure. Tevez has gone to City and now our very own Adebayor has taken his dancing feet to the land of Manc’s.

Yet that is, at the moment, our only casualty in this season.

I won’t say the normal Arsenal blogger thing and shout “good riddance”. I liked Adebayor, when he seemed to care he played very well. However he was lacking passion, playing lazily and overall was embarrassing to watch at times.
Wenger’s gamble of keeping him didn’t pay off.
Or maybe it did.
We knew Eduardo would be out for most of the season which meant we only had two experienced forwards in Adebayor and Van Persie. We also knew Van Persie was injury prone. I think Adebayor was kept like Aliadiere was kept in 2006, just because we had an injured player.
Also probably because we weren’t expecting him to be that lazy.
With him shifted we’ve been linked with a lot of players. The two front runners being Chamakh and Huntelaar.
I will say right now I hope we sign Huntelaar rather than Chamakh but failing that I hope we don’t sign any new forwards.

Why?

The last thing I want is another untested forward at Arsenal. We already have players to fit that role with Jay Simpson. Throw in the likes of Walcott, Vela and Bendtner and you have 4 players who show glimpses and may be great in the forward position. We do not need to stunt this with another player fitting the same bill.
For main strikers we have Eduardo, Van Persie and Arshavin. Already our list of strikers totals 7. Heck if you wanted to you could throw in Nasri and Barazite seeing as both can play a supporting striker role if called upon… infact so can Diaby. That is 10 players. We could play a 10 man striker squad if we wanted… (I would love to see that attempted, just once).

If we do bring in a striker it MUST be one that we know is going to deliver. We do not need a promising up and comer when we have 4 of them coming through the ranks already.

With the sale of Adebayor for £20 million+ we have funds.
With these funds many have begun calling for a striker to replace the departed and seem to have forgotten what everyone has been saying we needed for the last year.
A holding midfielder.

This situation is as interesting as the striker one.

The Section About Our Midfield

You bring in another midfielder to an already packed area of central midfielders and you must question if people will start to become unsettled.
Denilson, Diaby, Song and Ramsey are all trying to be the partner of Fabregas. Throw in the likes of Merida, Randall and other fringe players and there’s a lot of fighting for that position and it is highly unlikely Fabrgras will be thrown off his perch in the role.
So what should be done? Song can play numerous positions and as stated Diaby can play a supporting striker role, although that would not be needed of him thanks to our already bulging striking force.
Denilson dipped at the end of last season but was alright, I’ll admit that. His stats say he did well and sometimes he did. Sometimes however he did terrible.
Ramsey won’t get much play time minus a few sub and league cup appearances unless a string of injuries happen in my opinion.
One of them, at the least, needs to be shipped out on loan.
I would say Ramsey. I think the lad is great and will do great things but I think a run of constant 1st team football for another premiership outfit would be good. As long as we keep a recall clause on it we can bring him back if we need to or they don’t use him as much as we’d hope.
We’re still left with 3 central midfield backups however to fight for the place of whoever the holding midfielder we bring in is.
A 3 man back up to the central midfield is still an ample amount, maybe too ample.
Personally I would send Diaby out on loan. He’s never had a decent run, always plagued with injuries and if he can play for a decent outfit somewhere and prove he’s not an injury prone mess then he could be great for us in the 2010-2011 season, or we could only ship him out for half the season and snap him back up once he’s shown himself.

All of this is speculation however. There is no holding midfielder coming at the moment and as it stands it looks likely to be Song, Denilson or Diaby partnering with Fabregas in the centre.

We have a nice back line now, even if we shift Silvestre we still have a decent back line. Even if we shift Senderos we still have a decent back line but if we lose any more than that we may suffer.
With Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy, Djourou, Gibbs, Song and Vermelean we should be fine. Having the likes of Silvestre or Senderos is just an added bonus… or not, I can’t figure out if it’s good or not having them as a choice on the team sheet. Silvestre doesn’t impress me and never has. Senderos I don’t think is as bad as we all say and if used as a 4th string back up I’d be fine.

I hope we spend our money wisely and I hope we don’t ruin the development of some of our young players like Ramsey by not giving him a chance for regular first team football at a lower down team.

For those of you wondering who I think should be shifted on loan to improve themselves:

 
The Section Where I Rabble About Loans

Ramsey - He is going to be great, I can tell it but unless one of the other 4 CM’s get shifted this summer I think it’d be great for him to get experience at another premiership team (or equivalent league).

Simpson - I love Simpson but I see his chances this season limited unless another striker goes. Another stint out on loan to another premiership club could be what he needs, especially considering how the last one didn’t go to plan.

Merida - Same reason as Ramsey really. I rate the guy but he is 6th choice central midfield who is highly unlikely to play in anything minus the league cup and maybe get lucky with a few league appearances. A stint out somewhere would be good for him, maybe even at Championship level.

Traore – He’s meant to be going out on loan anyway which is for the best. I like the guy but I think there is nowhere for him in the squad at this moment in time. I personally see him behind Gibbs in the pecking order, especially considering the fact he’s been playing as a winger for most of the last year.

Wilshire – Leave it until January when the League Cup has become near to finishing, but I believe he should go out on loan at the tail end of the season for a League 1 or Championship side. It will be very handy for him to gain the experience

Randall – Doesn’t stand a chance, 6th choice along with Merida and will not see any luck. Is meant to be going out on loan anyway. I hope for a premiership side but I think playing for a Championship outfit wouldn’t damage him.

Barazite – He did well for Derby but he has to fight for his place against Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin, Walcott and more. I doubt he will get much of a chance and thus I think he should go out on loan to a Premiership or equivalent outfit.

Lansbury – Move on up. Did well at Scunny so go to a Championship side. Infact, he should go back to Scunthorpe seeing as he melded so well with the squad, see if he can help them up to the Premiership.

Mannone/Szczesny – One of them need a stint out on loan in my opinion. With Shea in the reserves as well there’s even competition just to be the reserve team keeper so sending one of them out will only do them good.

Murphy – He needs a stint off somewhere. Simple as. He has no chance of getting into the first team, much like Simpson and with so many other forwards a nice loan spell will do him good.

Coquelin – Good player who can only get better. A nice loan spell will help him.

To be honest there’s more I’d probably send but I think these are the ones that would benefit the most from a loan stint, doesn’t have to be a full season, just some time away.

I greatly anticipate the preseason to see if any shine like Wilshere did last year and landed himself a first team spot, at least for a short while.

It’s been a while since I have written a post and to be honest not a whole lot has happened Arsenal-wise if you consider that it has been a good six weeks or so since the last post.

We did sign one player, Vermaelen, and it will be interesting to see how he adapts to the pace of the English game. One thing is for sure, he can only strengthen us in the centre of defence as his arrival should surely spell the end of Silvestre’s appearances in the starting eleven. Fingers crossed on that.

Signing him so early on in the window maybe gave us some slightly misplaced optimism that we’d do all of our business early doors. That would be in a perfect world and, as we all know, the transfer dealing of Arsenal don’t ever take place in a perfect world.

Speaking of transfers, it is looking more and more likely that Adebayor will be on the move to Man Shitty, who seem to be assembling a team of strikers. If we get the reported £25m for him then we should take it and laugh all the way to the bank with it. He is a player that has really only ever had one good season in his career. Last season he was woeful and to make things worse he was lazy. So, to get that amount of money for someone whose only track record is to eventually cause trouble is a great deal for Arsenal, should it go through. Ray Parlour has also given his backing to the sale of Adebayor.

**UPDATE: It now seems that Adebayor has passed his medical…sayonara. Good riddance.

Let’s hope that the manager reinvests the whole of whatever fee we receive back into the team and it would seem that Chamakh is the player that will replace Adebayor. Let’s hope that the remainder of whatever cash is available goes on a ball-winning midfield hard-ass. It would be crushing to go a second summer and not sign the holding midfielder that the whole world can see that we need. No need to worry too much yet, there are still about six and a half weeks to go until the close of the transfer window. So, we should be prepared to go right down to the wire in order to get the midfielder that we need.

This summer has seen the transfer market go completely crazy with regard to the transfer fees being paid and quoted. I mean, there is no way you can convince me that Ronaldo is worth £80m along with about £10m a year in salary. Crazy money, but that’s the world that Arsene has to cope with and try to come up with affordable targets that still improves our team.

Flamini, Diarra and Gilberto were never replaced and that must be the priority. I would be more than happy to see the entirety of the Adebayor fee dropped on that midfielder and no striker purchased. As it stands, we have Van Persie, Bendtner, Eduardo, Vela, Walcott and Arshavin that can play in the forward role. Albeit Arshavin and Van Persie play best just off the main striker. That leaves Bendtner, Walcott and Vela vying for the main striker role. Not all that bad, a bit young and inexperienced, but there is quality there and lots of room for growth and improvement. But, there are plenty of options there to go with a forward three. Not to mention that Rosicky, Nasri and Fabregas would be the creative force behind that attack. It’s not a bad position to be in at all.

Can’t really say too much about Melo or Chamakh as I don’t really know anything about them. Have never seen either kick a ball, so it’s hard to have any feelings about Melo’s will-he/won’t-he sign for Juventus saga. Chamakh seems very keen to come to us, but I seem to remember him saying a few months back that he had set his sights on a smaller premier league club like Spuds. So, again, it is hard to get too excited about him either.

Pre-season kicks-off at Barnet on the 18th and is being broadcast on ATVO. Kick-off is at 15:00, so that’s 23:00 JST. We can expect to see the squad for that game mostly consisting of youngsters, with a smattering of some more senior players.

It’s now July 15th and our first Premier League game away to Everton kicks-off on August 15th. Not long to go now! I have to say that despite the lack of anything happening in the world of Arsenal over the close season, the goings-on at Real have made the time pass that bit faster.

Finally, my thoughts are with John Hartson and his family at this time. Let’s hope that he can make a full recovery.

El gusto por la cocina micológica se extiende a las setas de cultivo.

El champiñón quizás sea la seta más popular de todas las setas de cultivo y su consumo, el más elevado.

Empiezan a ser conocidas las setas de cultivo exóticas, en concreto hay una seta que va siendo cada vez más conocida en nuestro país: el shitake. Quizás algún día sea el sustituto del champiñón.

Esta seta a parte de ser económica y de tener un sabor muy característico, contiene una serie de propiedades muy beneficiosas para la salud, como:

Aumento de las defensas. El extracto de shitake fortalece el sistema inmunitario.

Prevención cardiovascular. Es un recurso frente a problemas cardiovasculares, la hipertensión y el colesterol.

Frena el envejecimiento. Ejerce un efecto antioxidante y contribuye a regular los niveles de la hormona del crecimiento.

Es beneficioso para el hígado. Lo protege de daños producidos por sustancias químicas o reacciones auto inmunes.

Fortalece el organismo. Además de aportar abundantes vitaminas y minerales, ayuda a alcalinizar la sangre.

Con lo que no debemos olvidarnos de las setas de cultivo, de las que podemos disponer todo el año, que además de económicas pueden ser muy beneficiosas para nuestra salud.
