When you commission Venice artist Simon Maltby to do anything in your home, you can be assured the results will be nothing short of spectacular. Such is the case at the Marmol Radziner home of Jonathan Sela and Megan Schoenbachler.

We had the pleasure of attending a lovely opening at the house a few weeks back, and I was blown away by what Simon had done…the majestic ‘chandelier’ made from eucalyptus branches is an instant show-stopper. Simon spent time perfecting the piece, making sure the natural curves and twists of the wood fit perfectly together, creating the illusion that it grew organically in the home. The idea for the installation came after careful collaboration with the clients, a step Maltby finds crucial in his process. After all, “the clients are the ones who live with it every day”. And the stunning dining room table and benches? Simon made those too…out of a fallen Oregon spruce tree rescued after a storm.

Simon’s work can be seen all over Venice (and beyond), from Principessa to Primitivo to the late Dennis Hopper’s home. And I was thrilled to see him mentioned in the LA Times feature of this Marmol Radziner house here. Simon Maltby certainly makes our list of “people we love”…and not just because he’s Darla’s man…because he’s amazing :)
