Being a fan of The Simpson’s, I just love this site.

Allright, it is a shameless tie-in with a Burger King marketing promotion. But the site lets you upload a picture of yourself, make some tweaks, and then get a Simpsons-type character version of yourself.

Way cool. Way way cool.

Hongkiat.com has a great post about 11 different sites that you can visit to create cartoon characters of yourself. My favorites were the South Park Studio and Simpsonize ME (obviously to create your own Simpsons character.

I created a cartoon likeness of a family member and had it made into a photo cake. Regular photos look too cheesy but give your friend/loved one a cake with an cartoon likeness of them and they will love it.

I do kind of look like this photograph. That’s Kiev up on my shoulder. She’s upset that I’ve done three posts about Mr. StripeyPants (“Pants” for short) and have yet to upload one photograph of her sleek and furry self. (If it pleases the court, we’d like to submit the following items into evidence: Exhibits #1, #2, #3.) I’ll have to make restitution next year.

Liz was playing at the Simpsonize Me site one day and I leaned over her shoulder just in time to take a slow walk through Springfield. The website’s been around a while, but if you haven’t tried it yet you’ll need Flash Player and a clear shoulders-up photo crop.

ybonesy’s still a bit groggy from her trip to Vietnam, so I guess a little self-indulgent play won’t hurt. Here are a few of my favorite things. Strange as they may be – they are all mine.

1. Answering The Phone, “Dunder Mifflin this is Pants…” – any The Office fans out there? In last week’s Moroccan Christmas episode, Meredith’s hair caught on fire. And Dwight Schrute was selling bootleg dolls during the Holiday party. It’s a must see.

2. Porcelain Sinks — Not partial to stainless steel in sinks or tubs. I like the tactile, white brightness of something more organic, and would rather hear the thump of dishes on porcelain than the clank of a glass on stainless steel. I do like brushed steel in microwaves, refrigerators, and stoves.

3. Cool Eyeware — I didn’t wear glasses until I was 42. I try to make the best of it. This year I bought a pair of squarish red Ray-Bans. I also like the way people look in glasses. I wonder if that’s because they look more writerly to me.

4. Woofle Jelly Cake — Hmmm. Ran across the recipe Mom sent last year for Ada’s Jam Cake with homemade preserves. More to come on that one later.

5. John Coltrane Playing My Favorite Things, Circa 1961 – John Coltrane with his band in Baden-Baden, Germany gets a 5 star rating from me. To view in widescreen, click on the link and it will take you over to Astrotype’s YouTube page with John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan, Thelonious Monk, and more.

My Favorite Things, written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, was first introduced by Mary Martin in the original 1959 Broadway musical production, and later sung by Julie Andrews in the 1965 film adaptation, The Sound Of Music. It has become popular around the Holidays for the winterish theme and upbeat tempo.

I can be found humming it around the house. And you might, too, after you hear Coltrane play it. Are there songs that get stuck in your head this time of year? What are some of your favorite things?

I made a major change to the blog the other day.  Specifically, I tweaked the About page.  Did I fix the use of first and third person voice in the same paragraph, you may ask?  No way Jose.  I’m trying to think of a way to work in the second person somewhere.  Instead of fixing the glaring writing errors, I inserted a picture of myself, done in the Simpsons animation style.  Got my priorities straight.  If you are wondering, yes it is a pretty accurate likeness.

“Aw man,” you say.  “But I’ve always wanted to be a Simpsons character.  Could you do one of me?”  No need, my friends.  Just point your Flash-enabled browsers to Simpsonizeme.com, and you too can create a Simpsons likeness of yourself.  I think the site was a joint marketing effort between Burger King and The Simpsons Movie.  With anything on the InterWebs, there is no telling how long it will remain.  First you upload a picture of yourself to get a close enough rendering.  Then you can tweak things like glasses, hair, clothes, skin color, etc. to fine tune your image.  Then use it for your chat room avatar, or on Facebook, or wherever.  Have fun with it.

This is not a rhetorical question; I really want to know.

I’d like to post something on the whole tactic of SimpsonizeMe.com that launched in July, but I’m having trouble finding news on its success.

If you know of anything, please let us hear it in the comments here, and I might work it into my post, as well. Was it a business success for Burger King? For the movie?

To start, I’d like to ask these folks if they know of anything? If you stumble upon this site and either know some feedback or have an opinion about the whole campaign, let me know.

Bueno, como verán en estos dias, la fiebre de los simpsons es muy alta. En internet existe una web que permite ’simpsonizarte’, es decir, a partir de una foto te ‘transforma’ a un personaje del mundo simpson.

Debemos ser sinceros y decirles que despues de una larga espera (producto tal vez de la gran cantidad de visitantes a la web en ese momento) el resultado era bastante pobre, pero te queda el sabor interior de que sos vos, y esta bueno!!!
Ademas, quien puede resistirse a simpsonizarse!!!

Wow. I can’t believe it’s been almost a week since I last posted. Luckily, not too much dust has gathered on this blog–at least I don’t think so, anyway. For those of you who might be interested, rest assured that your Grumpy Humanist has not been up to anything spectacularly interesting these past few days, other than reading way too much and not budgeting my time.

Ahem.

So yesterday I found out about SimpsonizeMe.com, yet another marketing ploy for the new Simpsons Movie. Basically, you upload a head-shot of yourself and the Simpsonizer works its magic. A very fun diversion, though some people seem to take it a bit too seriously. But then again, when doesn’t New York Magazine take itself seriously? Oh well.

However, it appears that the Simpsonizer does work for those of us who aren’t burdened by an entirely crushing sense of self-importance. I think that the Simpsonizer tolerates (at the most) a medium-sized sense of importance, as evidenced by its acceptance of my photo.
