You drive the typical Nova RTS T 80-260 bus, presented as a very detailed and true to the original 3D model. The original timetable and numerous exciting tasks challenge your skills as a bus driver.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Ce te faci cu un joc în care se regăsesc nu mai multe, ci TOATE genurile posibile? Cum îl clasifici, din perspectiva cărui gen îl priveşti? Îl tratezi ca o tocăniţă şi-l comentezi ca atare, sau iei fiecare gen în parte şi-i dai câte o notă? Având în vedere că o astfel de sorcovă este şi Space Rangers 2, îmi permit o sugestie umilă: îl joci cu poftă în toate formele sale, te minunezi şi te amuzi.</p>
<p>Povestea e una voit clişeistică şi aproape identică cu cea a predecesorului. De nu se ştie unde îşi fac apariţia trei rase extraterestre, denumiţi colectiv Dominatorii, cu intenţii prea puţin paşnice, pe care nici măcar nu se obosesc să şi le argumenteze. De fapt, dacă veţi avea curiozitatea să aflaţi de unde provin cu adevărat Dominatorii veţi descoperi o istorioară simpatică în spatele Blazeroizilor, Terrenoizilor şi Kelleroizilor.</p>
<p>Şi dacă numele vi se par siropoase, aşteptaţi doar să vedeţi filmuleţul introductiv pentru a fi convinşi că băşcălia şi luatul peste picior au constituit baza scenariului şi a gameplay-ului. Misiunea este deci simplă şi lipsită de subtilităţi, iar pentru eliminarea ameninţării extraterestre se poate alege calea paşnică¸cea violentă, ba chiar şi cea pasivă, întrucât universul se descurcă uneori şi fără tine.</p>
<p>Cele cinci rase pe care Dominatorii le hingheresc se hotărăsc să lase deoparte antipatiile personale şi să se alieze într-o coaliţie, al cărei prim efort imediat este înfinţarea Rangerilor spaţiali, un grup de piloţi de elită al căror scop oficial e să ne scape de nesuferiţii extratereştri.</p>
<p>Neoficial, e mult mai distractiv să adune averi, nave de firmă şi medalii, căci daca ar fi să includem Space Rangers 2 într-un gen anume, acesta ar fi space trading &#38; combat game, cu o libertate totală. Jucătorul îşi poate alege o rasă de care să aparţină, precum şi una din meseriile specifice ranger-ilor, cum ar fi mercenar, comerciant sau pirat, însă acestea nu fac decât să stabilească relaţiile de început cu unele rase.</p>
<p>Asta pentru că pe parcursul jocului şi în funcţie de acţiunile voastre, titlul personajului se poate modifica, din neguţător în pirat sau din erou în contrabandist, afectând astfel şi relaţiile sus-amintite. Şi pentru că o rasă devenită ostilă nu-ţi va mai permite aterizarea pe planetele lor pentru a cumpăra echipamente şi primi misiuni (mă rog, o va permite, dar vei intra direct la „facultate”), trebuie avut grijă cu acţiunile ostile împotriva aliaţilor, oricât de bănoase s-ar dovedi.</p>

<p>Întrucât Dominatorii sunt un inamic destul de dificil, cel puţin la început, întreaga acţiune se axează pe îmbunătăţirea navei şi a componentelor acesteia. Pentru asta, avem la dispoziţie motoare, rezervoare de combustibil, scuturi şi roboţei care repară stricăciunile, radare şi binenţeles, arme. Navele mai pot avea o cală mai mare pentru transportul bunurilor, sau pot fi echipate cu sloturi suplimentare pentru arme.</p>
<p>Componentele, de asemenea, se găsesc într-o sumedenie de modele şi îşi îmbunătăţesc performanţele în funcţie de noile cuceriri în domeniu, întrucât după cum spuneam ceva mai sus, universul în care vă aflaţi evoluează odată cu trecerea timpului. Fiecare rasă oferă propriile modele care au valori diferite de greutate, preţ şi performanţe, iar eu am găsit în alergătura după cele mai noi gadget-uri o activitate deosebit de plăcută. În plus, au fost introduse şi artefactele, drăcii speciale care nu pot fi ataşate oricărei nave, dar care oferă bonusuri consistente în luptă sau în afara ei.</p>
<p>Un strop de RPG întâlnim în cele şase atribute ale pilotului, ce pot îmbunătăţi performanţele ofensive, defensive, de neguţător sau pot stabili câţi angajaţi poţi avea (Rangeri care te urmează în luptă). Acestea se pot îmbunătăţi cu experienţa obţinută în urma îndeplinirii misiunilor sau a triumfului asupra Dominatorilor.</p>

<p><strong>Show me the money!</strong></p>
<p>Din moment ce universul are o viaţă a lui, cele cinci rase umanoide îşi văd în general de treburi şi lasă problema Dominatorilor în seama ranger-ilor. Huidumele din rasa Maloq au în cap numai războaie şi mâncare, Pelengii sunt puşi pe escrocherii şi glume proaste, Faeyanii se îndeletnicesc cu cercetarea ştiinţifică, iar Oamenii, ca de obicei, cu negoţul. Şi fiecare sistem solar (sunt aproximativ 60 în total) poate cuprinde câteva planete aparţinând uneia din cele cinci rase (deşi există şi sisteme în care se găsesc mai multe facţiuni).</p>
<p>Aici vă veţi petrece cea mai mare parte a timpului, colindând dintr-un sistem într-altul, cumpărând componente, reparându-vă nava sau primind misiuni de la guvernele locale. De asemenea, planetele reprezintă şi sufletul comerţului, o serie de bunuri fiind puse la dispoziţie pentru a le cumpăra ieftin şi vinde scump. Putem tranzacţiona minerale, obiecte de lux, medicamente, însă nu toate rasele privesc cu ochi buni negoţul cu bunuri interzise, cum ar fi armele şi drogurile.</p>
<p>Comerţul este o modalitate simplă şi paşnică de a obţine bani, cu condiţia să nu dai peste piraţi, care îţi pot cere o taxă de trecere sau o parte din cargo. Pirateria este de asemenea o opţiune, dacă te atrage cealaltă parte a baricadei. Bieţii comercianţi sau diplomaţi care colindă universul pot fi ameninţaţi şi jecmăniţi cu taxe de protecţie, pot fi somaţi să-şi abandoneze marfa sau pot fi chiar eliminaţi dacă nu se supun.</p>
<p>Totuşi, sistemele în care alegi să faci pe nebunul nu vor tolera prea multă vreme o asemenea atitudine şi te vei trezi fugărit de navele de securitate dacă insişti pe această cale. Din fericire, atitudinea ostilă a planetelor se poate modifica cu o şpagă bine plasată sau, în cazuri disperate, cu câteva săptămâni petrecute în închisoare.</p>

<p>Dincolo de comerţ şi piraterie, o cale mult mai lucrativă de a-ţi rotunji conturile este oferită de misiunile disponibile pe diferite planete. Acestea sunt deosebit de variate şi combină mai toate genurile de gameplay existente. Cele mai simple implică o activitate de curierat, de asasinat sau de protecţie, având o limită de timp în care pot fi îndeplinite.</p>
<p>Astfel, trebuie luată în calcul capacitatea motorului de a face salturi către sisteme îndepărtate, precum şi posibilităţile ofensive în cazul în care aveţi de redus pe cineva la tăcere. Se poate scădea sau creşte dificultatea misiunii, cel din urmă caz având ca efect o recompensă mai mare, dar în acelaşi timp scade şi timpul limită pentru îndeplinirea acesteia.</p>
<p><strong>Ce ziceam, că avem TOATE genurile aici? </strong></p>
<p>Un tip interesant de misiuni îl reprezintă bătăliile planetare, moment în care jocul opreşte în halta RTS. Jucătorul are la dispoziţie o armată de roboţi neînfricaţi cu ajutorul cărora trebuie să distrugă bazele adverse. Inamicii sunt de fapt tot cele trei tipuri de Dominatori, ce au la dispoziţie acelaşi arsenal ca al jucătorului, ba chiar se ciondănesc între ei dacă se întâmplă să se afle mai mulţi pe acceaşi hartă.</p>
<p>Roboţi pot fi modificaţi după modelul Mechwarrior, într-un atelier ce permite alegerea armurii, modelului de propulsie şi armelor, fiecare cu statisticile proprii de puncte de viaţă, damage sau cooldown. Astfel, modul în care fiecare îşi construieşte maşinăriile este vital din punct de vedere al confruntărilor şi al terenului (căci şi acesta are rolul său pe fiecare hartă) iar calculatorul poate pune probleme serioase la un moment dat.</p>
<p>Asta nu neapărat din punct de vedere al AI-ului care pare a se fi născut sub zodia Berbecului, ci mai degrabă din design-ul inteligent al hărţilor. Motivul fiind că resursele necesare construcţiei de roboţi se pot colecta doar prin cucerirea punctelor de interes, rezultând o înfruntare dinamică şi intensă.</p>
<p>În plus avem şi o facilitate pe care nu multe titluri o au, şi anume posibilitatea de a controla manual un roboţel din armata proprie. Jocul devine în acel moment un adevărat FPS, unde ai ocazia să testezi pe viu eficacitatea modelului pe care l-ai construit. Ideea nu e neapărat inovatoare (think Battlezone), dar este oarecum necesară (întrucât AI-ul mai mult te încurcă decât de ajută) şi aduce şi un strop de energie într-o strategie simplă, fără fasoane, făcând-o să rivalizeze cu bătrânul Starcraft în materie de tactică şi viteză de reacţie.</p>

<p>Poate cel mai captivant tip de misiune pe care-l poţi primi îl reprezintă aşa-zisele aventuri. Acestea reprezintă de fapt puzzle-uri ce pot fi rezolvate în modul text, prin alegerea cursului de acţiune prezentat. Varietatea este din nou cuvântul de ordine, aşa că pentru a le rezolva va trebui sa folosiţi logica, memoria, matematica şi imaginaţia, unele fiind imposibile fără ajutorul oferit de creion şi hârtie, totul fiind împachetat într-un ambalaj ilar şi ironic.</p>
<p>Dacă de pildă câştigarea unui concurs de rock având la dispoziţie doar vreo mie de rockadolari, sau clasarea pe primul loc într-o cursă de motociclete par cât de cât normale, imaginaţia uşor bolnavă a producătorilor iese la iveală pe parcursul altor misiuni. Cum ar fi testul pentru o schimbare de sex, unde trebuie să te transformi într-o marmotă cu şase ochi şi să te încaieri cu alte asemenea dihănii. Sau gătitul unei pizza scârboase pentru un juriu format din hulpavii Maloq. Sau obţinerea unei ştampile pe un certificat de proprietate, când primarul nu e de găsit (cine ar fi crezut că şi-a mutat biroul în budă?).</p>
<p>Într-un cuvânt, fiecare aventură nu e o simplă formalitate, ci oferă porţii sănătoase de amuzament, dacă aveţi răbdare să parcurgeţi textele în întregime. Umorul este de calitate şi original şi nu mi-a fost deloc jenă să râd singur atunci când l-am salutat cordial pe un prinţ Maloq cu un pumn sănătos în falcă, sau am citit întrebările tembele dintr-o conferinţă de presă (într-o campanie prezidenţială).</p>
<p>În plus, continuitatea universului este introdusă subtil în aceste quest-uri, oferind veridicitate lumii în care se desfăşoară acţiunea. Fayenii, de pildă, mari iubitori de artă, vor aprecia şi o pizza făţoasă şi elegantă, şi mai peste tot vei găsi un hoţoman de Peleng dispus să mituiască ori să faulteze vreun juriu.</p>
<p>În afară de misiunile primite de la guvernele locale, există găuri negre ce pot fi de asemenea întâlnite aleatoriu într-un sistem sau altul. Odată intraţi în ele ne vom găsi într-o lume arcade, unde controlul navei aduce aminte de Space Invaders. Aici trebuie doar să-ţi mânuieşti dibaci micuţa navă, distrugând toţi inamicii, pentru a ieşi pe partea cealaltă, de obicei la alt capăt al universului, recompensele fiind de astă dată artefacte foarte rare.</p>

<p>Trăieşte sau nu?</p>
<p>Sistemele mai pot fi găzdui, în afară de planete, asteroizi, piraţi sau simpli călători şi baze stelare. Centrele de Rangers sunt considerate cartierele generale ale salvatorilor galaxiei, unde se pot tranzacţiona noduri (elemente extraterestre) pentru obţinerea de module interesante ce îmbunătăţesc atributele componentelor. Tot în bazele militare se pot achiziţiona programe de luptă sau comanda operaţiuni extinse, ce vizează eliberarea sistemelor de sub stăpânirea Dominatorilor.</p>
<p>Staţiile ştiinţifice oferă îmbunătăţiri şi reparaţii pentru artefacte, centrele medicale oferă droguri legale, iar centrele comerciale oferă împrumuturi sau conturi de economii. Chiar şi piraţii au bazele lor, unde-ţi poţi schimba cetăţenia sau obţine software ilegal. În general, AI-ul are o viaţă a lui: diplomaţii de exemplu cer ajutor prin radio pentru îndepărtarea unui pirat iar comercianţii îţi pot sufla o afacere bună de sub nas, dacă nu eşti suficient de rapid. Dialogurile au savoarea lor, în special cele cu Dominatorii, spre final, care sunt de-a dreptul delicioase.</p>
<p>Luptele spaţiale se desfăşoara pe ture, fiind vitale statisticile armelor şi armurilor, puterea de foc, distanţa, atributele pilotului precum şi viteza navei sale. În general, bătăliile sunt destul de intense, mai ales când e vorba de Dominatori (care mai mereu umblă în gaşcă) şi sunt chiar posibile coordonări ale atacurilor cu alţi luptători. Din păcate, spre final vei fi aproape invincibil, costul reparaţiilor fiind singurul lucru care să te oprească din a cuceri întreg universul de unul singur, semn că se mai putea umbla puţin la statisticile inamicilor întâlniţi.</p>
<p>Grafica poate fi comentată din mai multe planuri, având în vedere varietatea genurilor pe care o avem la dispoziţie. Sistemele solare sunt atent lucrate şi modelate, putem vedea asteroizi care traversează grăbiţi sau planete cu ecrane gigantice ataşate, iar navele sunt frumos-colorate, chiar dacă puţin cartoonish. Efectele armelor sunt însă de-a dreptul arcade, şi de fapt întreaga secvenţă de luptă în spaţiu are aerul unui desen animat.</p>
<p>Cu toate astea stilul nu deranjează, dimpotrivă, se potriveşte perfect unui univers pus pe şotii. Bătăliile terestre se prezintă de asemenea desenate, însă cu o tentă Mechwarrior, iar exploziile şi efectele armelor sunt foarte bune. Aventurile-text sunt singurele care nu au decât concept-art-uri ca reprezentare grafică, însă aceasta e de foarte bună calitate şi contribue serios la imersiune. Muzica este şi ea simpatică şi bine aleasă, tocmai cât să nu deranjeze, dar să ofere totuşi o senzaţie spaţio-exploratoare.</p>
<p>Jocul este de altfel plin de mici surprize şi detalii, cum ar fi rating-ul pilotului, folositor în obţinerea de echipamente unice, boli spaţiale care-ţi dau credite la intervale regulate sau sistemul foarte util de căutare. Una peste alta am descoperit de fiecare dată când l-am jucat câte ceva nou, nu neapărat important, dar cel puţin simpatic.</p>
<p>Umorul este omniprezent şi bine-aţi face să citiţi textul fiecărei misiuni, altfel puteţi pierde substraturi haioase chiar şi în misiunile simple. Cum ar fi livrarea urgentă a unui antivirus pe nume Linux către o planetă infectată de Windows. Sau transportul creierului îngheţat al unui diplomat care are de făcut o călătorie importantă şi nu vrea bătăi de cap.</p>
<p>Şi dacă vreţi cumva să mă trageţi de urechi pentru sumedenia de spoilere, trebuie spus că expansion-ul Reboot, apărut la mai bine de 2 ani de la originalul SR2, aduce cu sine o droaie de misiuni noi, peste 50 de hărţi pentru misiunile terestre, câteva adventure-quest-uri în plus, componente şi nave noi şi interesante.</p>
<p>Engage!</p>
<p>Deşi combină o grămadă de stiluri, nu se poate spune că Space Rangers 2 revoluţionează vreunul din acestea. Libertatea totală de mişcare este poate un tribut către Elite, dar iubitorii de strategie vor pufni aroganţi la vederea bătăliilor terestre, amatorii de arcade se vor plânge ca hiperspaţiul e prea scurt, iar experţii adventure-ilor vor avea cel mult un zâmbet condescendent în colţul gurii. Totuşi, aceste stiluri sunt îmbinate într-un mod genial, pe baza unui univers teribil de simpatic de care te poţi ataşa, şi care te trage să-l rejoci chiar dacă ştii peste ce o să dai.</p>
<p>Poate că nu rupe gura târgului cu grafica, partea de strategie nu e revoluţionară şi nu vei pierde nopţi trăgând mâţa de coadă ca sa deschizi uşa vreunui beci, dar pentru mine Space Rangers 2 este definiţia perfectă a unui joc: amuzament, destindere, FUN!</p>

Dengan aplikasi ini dimungkinkan mereka dapat melihat laporan yang ada melalui handphone, PDA atau blackberry.</p>
<p>Berikut langkah-langkah untuk melakukan simulasinya.<br />
1. Install JDK 6 dan jalankan command &#8220;set JAVA_HOME=&#8221;&#60;path&#62;&#8221;. Pada percobaan ini saya menggunakan JDK 6 update 2.<br />
2. Install Go!Mobile. Pada percobaan ini saya menggunakan Go!Mobile 8.4<br />
3. Install JDE 4.7.0 dan BB simulator 4.7.0.75_9539-Verizon.<br />
4. Start menu -&#62; All Programs -&#62; Research In Motion -&#62; BlackBerry JDE 4.7.0 -&#62; Run MDS-CS<br />
5. Start menu -&#62; All Programs -&#62; Research In Motion -&#62; BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators 4.7.0 -&#62; 9530-Verizon<br />
5. Load file java di web-content/mobile/rim_desktop/4.2 yaitu cognos_mobile.cod dan cognos_mobile_settings.cod<br />
6. File -&#62; Reset<br />
7. Masuk ke Menu download  dan masuk ke Log On, ketikan http://Cognos_ServerName/cognos8/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi. Akan muncul notifikasi untuk memasukkan userid dan password.<br />
8. Pilih browse untuk melihat report yang ada di server. Gunakan panah di keyboard untuk memilih menu terlebih dahulu, baru menggunakan mouse untuk mengklik. Jika berhasil dengan baik dan report di Cognos server telah tersdia, maka report akan muncul.<br />

The iPhone and iPod touch devices, despite their small screens, are great for this sort of activity. The computing and graphics power is quite great and the accelerometer makes it quite hard to crash.</p>
<p>Here are my top flight sims in no particular order&#8230; unfortunately none are free, although Lite or Trainer versions might exist or become available&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>X-Plane</strong> is a simulator that is absolutely physically realistic to the extent that a mobile phone can be. It presents serious options to practise or try out &#8220;proper&#8221; manoeuvres, including using excellently developed navigation on beautiful aircraft. There are terrain options, other aircraft (occasionally) and challenging runways. It uses the accelerometer to great effect. Multiplayer or not.</p>

There is a social club, a multiplayer mode and an option to fight against enemies in planes with blackout-causing g-force. The satisfaction of this one can be immense &#8211; after all, it is designed to be challenging, with a name like &#8220;Fleet Air Superiority Training&#8221;. If you like missions, this is one for you.</p>
<p><strong>Flight Control</strong> is about moving aircraft of various sizes and speeds to their correct helipads and runways. It&#8217;s a 2D setup but don&#8217;t be fooled &#8211; co-ordinating movements of planes of different speeds and requirements is tricky. There are several terrain modes, and the game itself is easy to use. A good value item that interacts with others over Bluetooth, WiFi or even Facebook (although that&#8217;s not live). Enjoy dragging aircraft around with your finger, then&#8230;</p>

<title><![CDATA[An Introduction to the Symbian Virtual Platform]]></title>

<p>When I&#8217;m not studying, I happen to advocate and contribute to open source, and open platforms and enjoy spending time testing and documenting software, and exploring various aspects of low-level operating system and computer networking technology &#8211; all whilst trying to be a generally reasonable and agreeable person&#8230;</p>
<p>Of course, I also happen to be a heavy user, and advocate of the Symbian platform, and have been involved with the Symbian Foundation to varying extents, since its announcement.</p>
<p>Introduction aside, I&#8217;ve been invited to introduce the Symbian Virtual Platform. This is a project that I&#8217;ve been involved in beta testing, prior to the release of the Symbian Kernel Taster Kit.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;"><strong>What&#8217;s the Symbian Virtual Platform?</strong></p>
<p>The <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/wiki/index.php/SYBORG/QEMU">Symbian Virtual Platform</a> consists of a customised version of <a href="http://www.qemu.org">QEMU</a> (an Open Source CPU instruction set and hardware emulator), containing several additional features, along with a corresponding baseport referred to as Syborg.</p>
<p>This combination potentially represents the future of inexpensive, accurate, user-level application testing, and low-level debugging and experimentation on the Symbian Platform, without the need for additional hardware.</p>
<p>As a bonus, some of the hallmark causes of frustration with the older Windows-based emulator (commonly referred to as WINS or WINSCW dependant upon toolchain used) are removed, such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Low performance</li>
<li>Simulation inaccuracy (e.g. differing memory models with various limitations, behavioural differences from real hardware, and disabled/restricted software functionality)</li>
<li>Platform dependence &#8211; QEMU is well-supported under Windows, most Linux distributions and Mac OS X, and also runs under many other operating systems<!--more--></li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align:center;">
<p style="text-align:left;"><strong>What can it do for you?</strong></p>
<p>The &#8220;official&#8221;/mainline version of QEMU already emulates an ARMv5 architecture CPU, and a number of hardware features including &#8211; but not limited to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Serial ports &#8211; complete with the ability to redirect traffic to a file, which is essential for Symbian Platform debugging and problem diagnosis</li>
<li>Ethernet chipsets &#8211; a driver for which is included in Syborg, although additional work is necessary, before being suitable for intensive use</li>
<li>Various forms of Flash memory devices (e.g. MultiMediaCard/SD Card, and SPI NAND Flash)</li>
<li>An audio chipset &#8211; support for this in the baseport was <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/oss/FCL/interim/QEMU/rev/5fca9e46c6fa">recently contributed</a> by Johnathan White of Accenture</li>
</ul>
<p>However, the version supplied by Symbian also adds a number of useful features that enhance this functionality to potentially save development time and effort, and let users/enthusiasts test software quickly and easily without access to a physical handset, including:</p>
<ul>
<li>The ability to run real Symbian OS binaries &#8220;as-is&#8221; &#8211; meaning that you no longer also need to rebuild software to run within an x86 and Windows-only simulator</li>
<li>A host file system-backed emulated drive (<code><em>S:\</em></code> on the QEMU guest, which maps to <code><em>\svphostfs</em></code> on the host) that acts as an extension of firmware when custom executables are added, and allows for quickly moving files between the host and guest whilst the Platform is running</li>
<li>A Python-based dynamic hardware modelling system that allows for varying degrees of control over the behaviour of the emulated system at runtime, without needing to modify QEMU source code and rebuild</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align:left;">The source code for these enhancements, and the baseport are available in the Symbian Foundation <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/oss/FCL/sf/adaptation/qemu/">repositories</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align:left;"><strong>What have I done with QEMU?</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Built several ROM images containing various Platform components, and documented the results on the <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=31">Symbian forums</a> so that others can assist in resolving problems, and enhancing the results</li>
<li>Spent time debugging the execution of various binaries using serial port file redirection, and resolving dependency issues, as they arose</li>
</ul>
<p>Which leads nicely on to a practical example, based upon a problem that I faced&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Getting the EUserHL Walkthrough test suite running</strong></p>
<p>A forum thread that I started, with additional suggestions from the community, prior to writing this post is available <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3653">here</a> for reference.  I&#8217;ll now attempt to explain how I answered a not-too-uncommon question using several features of the Symbian Virtual Platform, and a process of elimination -</p>
<blockquote><p><em>How can I test a Platform component (in this case &#8211; EUserHL), when I don&#8217;t have access to the source code?</em></p></blockquote>
<p>The initial steps involved boil down to:</p>
<ul>
<li>Install and configure the Symbian <a href="http://developer.symbian.org/main/tools_and_kits/downloads/view.php?id=8">Kernel Taster Kit</a> and RVCT 4.0 according to the instructions on the Symbian Wiki</li>
<li>Create a directory on the host file system at <em>\svphostfs</em> and a set of subdirectories to hold executables and DLLs inside: <em>sys\bin</em></li>
<li>Copy <em>\epoc32\release\armv5\urel\euserhl_walkthrough.exe</em> and <em>\epoc32\release\armv5\urel\euserhl.dll</em> to <em>\svphostfs\sys\bin</em></li>
<li>Start a <em>cmd.exe </em>prompt session, and switch to <em>\symbian-qemu-0.9.1\bin\</em></li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Run QEMU using the prebuilt Syborg ROM image using: <em>arm-none-symbianelf-qemu-system -M \sf\adaptation\qemu\baseport\syborg\syborg.dtb -kernel \epoc32\rom\syborg.img </em>within the active <em>cmd.exe </em>session</li>
<li>Once the ROM has booted to EShell, attempt to invoke <em>euserhl_walkthrough.exe</em></li>
<li>Notice that execution simply bails, before printing a rather vague, generic &#8220;<em>Not found&#8221;</em> error message</li>
</ul>
<p>Obviously, this a rather sorry state of affairs &#8211; but there&#8217;s hope.  So, let&#8217;s move on:</p>
<ul>
<li>Halt the previous QEMU session</li>
<li>This time, run QEMU again using <em>arm-none-symbianelf-qemu-system -M \sf\adaptation\qemu\baseport\syborg\syborg.dtb -kernel \epoc32\rom\syborg.img <strong>-serial file:&#8221;EUserHLDebug.txt&#8221; <span style="font-style:normal;"><span style="font-weight:normal;">to redirect serial port output to a file</span></span></strong></em></li>
<li>Within the EShell session, invoke <em>trace /L 4 </em>to enable debugging of executable loading and DLL iteration</li>
<li>Attempt to invoke <em>euserhl_walkthrough.exe </em>once again within EShell, to receive the familiar <em>&#8220;Not found</em>&#8221; error</li>
<li>Open <em>\symbian-qemu-0.9.1\bin\EUserHLDebug.txt </em>on the host, using your favourite text editor</li>
<li>Following the chain of execution, from <em>euserhl_walkthrough.exe</em> onwards, to <em>euserhl.dll</em>, we can see that various dependency DLLs are located successfully (demarcated by &#8220;<em>New image found</em>&#8220;)</li>
<li>However, if we closely follow <em>euserhl.dll</em>, the fact that a critical dependency is missing at a late stage is alluded to by &#8220;<em>No suitable image found</em>&#8221; &#8211; although reattempts are constantly being made to locate the missing DLL</li>
<li>Unfortunately, this debug output does not tell us exactly which DLL we require &#8211; so we turn to another useful tool (<em>elftran</em>)</li>
<li>At this stage, it would be a good idea to halt the QEMU session, to avoid some rather confusing behaviour that arises from the handling of the <em>S:\</em> drive, and executable caching when copying additional DLLs and executables to <em>\sys\bin</em> within it</li>
</ul>
<p>Now, we should be on the home stretch:</p>
<ul>
<li>Within another <em>cmd.exe</em> session, run: <em>elftran \svphostfs\sys\bin\euserhl.dll &#62; EUserHLDeps.txt </em>to create a file containing information related to the dependencies of the <em>euserhl.dll </em>binary, amongst other attributes</li>
<li>Searching for &#8220;imports from&#8221; within the <em>EUserHLDeps.txt </em>file will reveal that <em>euserhl.dll </em>depends upon <em>estor.dll</em> &#8211; which doesn&#8217;t exist in the prebuilt ROM image, or in <em>\svphostfs\sys\bin</em></li>
<li>Copy <em>\epoc32\release\armv5\urel\estor.dll</em> to <em>\svphostfs\sys\bin</em></li>
<li>Run <em>arm-none-symbianelf-qemu-system -M \sf\adaptation\qemu\baseport\syborg\syborg.dtb -kernel \epoc32\rom\syborg.img</em> once again</li>
<li>With a little luck, attempting to invoke <em>euserhl_walkthrough.exe </em>should result in:</li>

<li>Within a <em>cmd.exe</em> session, switch to <em>\sf\os\kernelhwsrv\kernel\eka\rombuild</em></li>
<li>Run <em>rom &#8211;variant=syborg &#8211;inst=armv5 &#8211;build=udeb &#8211;type=tshellwitheuserhl &#8211;name=\epoc32\rom\tshellwitheuserhl.img </em>to attempt to build a new ROM image containing the EUserHL DLL, walkthrough/demo application, and the EStor DLL</li>
<li>If everything worked according to plan, you should be able to run your new ROM image using: <em>arm-none-symbianelf-qemu-system -M \sf\adaptation\qemu\baseport\syborg\syborg.dtb -kernel \epoc32\rom\tshellwitheuserhl.img </em>within the <em>\symbian-qemu-0.9.1\bin\ </em>directory</li>
<li>Invoking <em>euserhl_walkthrough.exe </em>for the final time should produce the same result as the previous exercise!</li>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>At the Supercomputing 2009 conference, IBM announced significant progress toward creating a computer system that simulates and emulates the brain&#8217;s abilities for sensation, perception, action, interaction and cognition, while rivaling the brain&#8217;s low power and energy consumption and compact size. Scientists at IBM Research and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, have performed the first near real-time cortical simulation of the brain that exceeds the scale of a cat cortex and contains 1 billion spiking neurons and 10 trillion individual learning synapses. The simulation was performed using Lawrence Livermore National Lab&#8217;s Dawn Blue Gene/P supercomputer with 147,456 CPUs and 144 terabytes of main memory.</p>
<p>            IBM scientists have also collaborated with researchers from Stanford University to develop an algorithm that exploits the Blue Gene<sup>®</sup> supercomputing architecture in order to noninvasively measure and map the connections between all cortical and sub-cortical locations within the human brain using magnetic resonance diffusion weighted imaging. Mapping the wiring diagram of the brain is crucial to untangling its vast communication network and understanding how it represents and processes information.</p>
<p>            These advancements will provide a unique workbench for exploring the computational dynamics of the brain, moving the team closer to its goal of building a compact, low-power synaptronic chip using nanotechnology. This work stands to break the mold of conventional computing, creating a new paradigm to meet the system requirements of the instrumented and interconnected world of tomorrow.</p>

<p>             As the amount of digital data that we create continues to grow massively and the world becomes more instrumented and interconnected, there is a need for new computing systems with intelligence that can spot patterns in various digital and sensor data; analyze and integrate information real-time in context; and deal with the ambiguity found in complex environments.</p>
<p>Businesses will simultaneously need to monitor, prioritize, adapt and make rapid decisions based on ever-growing streams of critical data and information. A cognitive computer could quickly and accurately put together the disparate pieces of this complex puzzle, while taking into account context and previous experience, to help business decision makers come to a logical response.</p>
<p>            &#8220;Learning from the brain is an attractive way to overcome power and density challenges faced in computing today,&#8221; said Josephine Cheng, IBM Fellow and lab director of IBM Research &#8211; Almaden. &#8220;As the digital and physical worlds continue to merge and computing becomes more embedded in the fabric of our daily lives, it&#8217;s imperative that we create a more intelligent computing system that can help us make sense the vast amount of information that&#8217;s increasingly available to us, much the way our brains can quickly interpret and act on complex tasks.&#8221;</p>
<p>            IBM and its university partners were recently awarded $16.1 million in additional funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for Phase 1 of its Systems of Neuromorphic Adaptive Plastic Scalable Electronics (SyNAPSE) initiative. This phase of research will focus on the components, brain-like architecture and simulations to build a prototype chip. The long-term mission of IBM&#8217;s cognitive computing initiative is to discover and demonstrate the algorithms of the brain and deliver low-power, compact cognitive computers that approach mammalian-scale intelligence and use significantly less energy than today&#8217;s computing systems.</p>
<p>            &#8220;The goal of the SyNAPSE program is to create new electronics hardware and architecture that can understand, adapt and respond to an informative environment in ways that extend traditional computation to include fundamentally different capabilities found in biological brains,&#8221; said DARPA program manager Todd Hylton, PhD. Luându-mă de mână cu tăticul Schopenhauer, mă consider încă în ziua a şaptea, contemplând un Dumnezeu care s-a sustras creaţiei, părăsind obosit lumea aceasta complicată pentru una mai simplă: în timpul liber, Dumnezeu se joacă&#8230; The Sims.</p>
<p>Bun venit în lumea tuturor posibilităţilor, în universul în care oricine poate fi un micuţ şi bolnav Big Brother, raiul Animal Planet cu oameni. În The Sims 3 existenţa este mai simplă pentru că, pentru prima oară, poţi să alegi cum să arăţi, de la aluniţele strategice la personalitate. Poţi să îţi alegi calităţile şi defectele, greutatea şi apetitul, astfel încât să te simţi perfect în propria piele.</p>
<p>Şi dacă aveaţi impresia că vechile Sims-uri depăşeau cu mult barierele ştiinţei şi ale firescului uman, al treilea titlu al seriei ne dovedeşte că a învăţat de la tăticul său mai mare, simulatorul universal Spore şi ne încântă cu mecanisme asemănătoare de personalizare, oferind moduri aproape infinite de percepere a propriului ego.</p>

<p>Se spune că totul începe din faţa oglinzii, locul simbolic al confruntării cu sinele. Şi în The Sims 3 povestea îşi are originile în clarul liniştit al oglinzii, ameninţând să nu se mai termine. Pe lângă obişnuitele ajustări ale diferiţilor muşchi ai feţei, a fost implementat şi un sistem unic de texturare ce permite îmbinarea şi combinarea diferitelor&#8230; texturi disponibile în nuanţe infinite, pentru realizarea nu numai a unor modele revoluţionare de haine, dar şi a unor culori hippie de păr, a unor irişi vampirici ş.a.m.d.</p>
<p>Dacă unicitatea este o manie pentru voi, veţi fi încântaţi de ideea că şi vocea Sim-ului poate fi acum modificată, chiar dacă numai în adâncime. Pe scurt, The Sims 3 vă oferă instrumentele necesare pentru a vă face corpul virtual unic în orice mod vă taie capul. Și odată ce sunteți mulțumiți cu pectoralii ce v-au crescut peste noapte, puteți alege din 63 de calități și defecte (denumite generic ”traits”) care se îmbină în 32 de dorințe (Lifetime Wishes), ce vor condimenta modul în care reacționează personajul vostru la toate evenimentele vieții sale.</p>
<p><strong>Iluzia jocului</strong></p>
<p>Fiindcă The Sims 3 este în cele din urmă un joc, el trebuie să aibă o miză. Astfel, din cele câteva zeci de dorințe fanatice menționate mai sus, tu, jucătorul, trebuie să alegi numai una, spre care să îți călăuzești alter-ego-ul de-a lungul vieții. Ca orice om în carne și oase digitale, și Sim-ul tău va îmbătrâni și va avea parte de o moarte mai mult sau mai puțin senină, dar categoric inevitabilă.</p>
<p>De aceea, moartea Sim-ului fără dorința de-o viață îndeplinită poate fi considerată un fel de ”game over”, în timp ce îndeplinirea ei în timp util este fără îndoială un mic ”ai câștigat, acum pleacă acasă”. Cu toate acestea, universul merge mai departe indiferent de final şi, curând, generații de Simși se succed una după alta, iar tu, săritor și veșnic neobosit, le aduci Raiul pe SimPământ. Înainte să îți dai seama, ai petrecut câteva ore bune privind niște omuleți imaginari care fac exact aceleași lucruri ca și tine.</p>

<p>Nu vă grăbiți să vă îngrijorați că dețineți o curiozitate perversă, cu explicații și implicații Freudiene, fără să fi observat că The Sims a evoluat de la un Muppets Show domestic spre un titlu cu o mecanică de joc destul de solidă. Cu alte cuvinte, piramida lui Maslow, care era esența primului titlu, a fost înlocuită treptat cu un sistem de dorințe care pune accentul pe idealuri. Iar The Sims 3 reprezintă maturizarea acestei decizii.</p>
<p>În sfârșit, Sim-ul poate să mănânce o dată pe zi fără să îți faci probleme că o să moară de foame, poate să folosească WC-ul și la serviciu sau, în caz că e obosit, să doarmă când șeful nu-l supraveghează. Poate să aibă grijă singur de lucrurile de bază, astfel încât voi să ocupați de problemele cele mai importante: idealurile lui digitale, dar mai ales, dorințele voastre ceva mai palpabile. E greu să apeși pe butonul de exit în The Sims 3, fiindcă odată ce ai fost asimilat în SimUnivers uiți, aproape ca în basmele cu lumi blestemate, de ce ești acolo.</p>

<p><strong>Simchievement Whore</strong></p>
<p>Dorința de-o viață ajunge însă la un moment dat să fie sufocată de Hobby-uri și alte detalii nesemnificative, precum învățatul unei noi rețete sau comercializarea a 30 de best-seller-uri proprii, ținte care acționează toate ca un fel de achievements. Pentru fiecare moft pe care i-l îndeplinești Sim-ului, acesta primește puncte ce pot fi cheltuite pentru bonusuri sau abilități noi, precum posibilitatea de a trăi fără mâncare, sau mai mult sex-appeal. Cele mai scumpe bonusuri oferă chiar și obiecte noi, precum teleportorul sau aparatul care clonează mâncare, toate cu scopul de a face viața digitală și mai comodă.</p>
<p>Pe lângă recompensa pentru dorințele evidente, jocul mai oferă și bonusuri de îndemânare pentru cei care repară un număr de obiecte în casă, sau se pricep la plantatul diferitelor legume. Și dacă sistemul de dorințe nu vi se pare suficient, puteți oricând să vă angajați și să vă luptați pentru a urca pe scara ierarhică de la muncă, făcându-vă inamici printre colegi și dându-vă bine pe lângă șef. La rândul lor, meseriile vă pot oferi obiecte unice, precum laptop-uri mai performante, de exemplu.</p>
<p>Ultimul cerc infernal rămâne cel al colecționarilor care pot aduna în joc roci meteoritice, fluturi, gândaci, plante unice sau pești. Cei curajoși pot vizita și cimitirul pentru a afla secretele fantomelor, iar cei mai științifici pot studia galaxiile, în așteptarea unei răpiri extraterestre.</p>

<p><strong>SIMobExpert sau Căsuța noastră, cuibușor de Sims</strong></p>
<p>La fel ca în titlurile anterioare, o parte foarte importantă din viața oricărui Sim o reprezintă construirea și personalizarea ”peșterii” în care o să își petreacă 70% din viață. Sims 3 oferă probabil cele mai flexibile instrumente de ridicare a clădirilor de până acum. Pentru prima oară în istoria Sims-ică, construirea și plasarea obiectelor pe oblică nu mai este o problemă. Posibilitățile avansate de design nu ar face de rușine nici un arhitect autorizat, cu mențiunea că toate sunt destul de domestice, evitând avantgardismul, dar încurajând cubismul și barocul.</p>
<p>Mult mai important este că The Sims 3 face extinderea caselor foarte ușoară. Jocul se asigură că, de fiecare dată când aduceți o modificare designului, schimbarea se va integra perfect în ambianță. Modificați dimensiunea camerei, iar obiectele se vor muta și ele în interior, relativ la poziția lor inițială. Dacă mai construiți un zid despărțitor, puteți alege ca el să imite tapetul pereților din jur. La fel se întâmplă și cu corpurile de mobilă de exemplu, toate elementele putând fi la fel de ușor personalizate prin sistemul unic de combinare a texturilor.</p>

<p>Și fiindcă tot am ajuns la obiectele care vă vor ocupa căminul, trebuie menționat că Sims 3 a adăugat câteva produse noi în catalogul său virtual, în detrimentul altora, care nu au mai fost considerate la fel de importante. Spre exemplu, EA a ascultat rugăciunile fanilor din toată lumea și a făcut acum posibilă deținerea unei mașini sau a altor mijloace de deplasare, precum bicicleta.</p>
<p>Pe de altă parte, masa de biliard și jacuzzi-ul nu mai pot acum să răsfețe orice Sim simandicos, deși acestea erau niște obiecte clasice disponibile încă din primul titlu. Nu trebuie totuşi să ne mâhnim prea tare, fiindcă acum jocul are în spate suportul unei întregi comunități virtuale care poate propaga noile creații ale jucătorilor din toată lumea (prin Sim Exchange), precum și un magazin virtual cu plată, care va conține treptat toate obiectele dorite atât de asiduu.</p>
<p>Explozia The Sims 3 pe Internet este însă cu două tăișuri. Chiar dacă comunitatea virtuală permite exprimarea ideilor, atât prin noi obiecte, cât și prin filmulețe create de utilizatori sau blog-uri Sim-ești, totodată ea promovează și un grad mai ridicat de mercantilism. De exemplu, Exchange-ul este mai mult un mod de a oferi texturi personalizate altor Simși decât obiecte noi propriu-zise, fiindcă obiectele retexturate după cele cumpărate din magazin nu vor fi disponibile oricum decât celor care dețin deja obiectul original.</p>
<p>Magazinul virtual în sine este un loc destul de scump, mai ales când vine vorba de seturi bazate pe o anumită temă. Și ca să vedeți cât de departe merge reclama, acest magazin oferă și obiecte gratuite, care însă promovează diferite brand-uri. Asta înseamnă că puteți conduce noul Toyota Prius fără să plătiți nimic sau să vă umpleți casa cu frigidere Coca-Cola. Și, în măsura în care The Sims 3 nu este un titlu Free-to-Play, reclama putea fi mai transparentă.</p>

<p><strong>Iluzia realității</strong></p>
<p>Ce deranjează în The Sims 3 mai mult decât acest iz comercial este îmbinarea inconsistentă de realitate cu ficțiune, cu ritmul arcade. Este evident că producătorii au optat pentru acest titlu al seriei o imagine ceva mai matură și serioasă, eliminând numeroase easter-egg-uri, precum ursul care scormonea în pubela de gunoi, clovnul atașat tabloului posedat sau mimul deprimant. Camera cinematică a fost şi ea eliminată din evenimentele importante din viața Sim-ului, şi din acest motiv jocul pare și mai impersonal.</p>
<p>De asemenea, multe aspecte au fost modificate pentru a oferi un ritm de viață cât mai apropiat de cel real. Importantă și binevenită este eliminarea ecranelor de încărcare, jucătorul putând acum să exploreze întreaga comunitate printr-o simplă urcare în mașină. Interacțiunea cu ceilalți cetățeni ai orașelor este mult mai firească, Sim-ul fiind capabil să meargă în vizită la prieteni și să își creeze niște relații trainice chiar și la locul de muncă.</p>
<p>Evoluția în carieră este mult mai firească și nu mai este necesară popularitatea decât într-un post în politică, dar nu și pentru un cercetător, de exemplu. Per total, orașele din Sims 3 par să aibă propria viață și o evoluție unică, în care acțiunile personale influențează mult destinele celor din jur. Grafica însăși încurajează această direcție a jocului, fiind mai puțin colorată decât în titlurile anterioare, dar mult mai performantă. Iar muzica a renunțat la tonurile exotice din The Sims 2 pentru a se întoarce la familiarele ondulații din primul titlu.</p>

<p>Pe de altă parte, unele elemente au fost reduse la mecanismele lor de bază. Dacă poți petrece ore întregi jucându-te cu rețetele culinare, schimbarea scutecelor se face din senin, printr-o simplă magie a rotirii copilașului. Nașterea este o chestiune de câteva gâfâieli, iar mămica gravidă nu pare să sufere prea mult din chinurile dinaintea marelui eveniment. Și, chiar dacă la nivel macro relațiile sociale au aspecte mai adânci decât în trecut, la nivelul interacțiunii directe între două personaje, totul este o chestiune de complexitatea piatră-foarfecă-hârtie, unde trebuie să nimerești preferințele celuilalt interlocutor.</p>
<p>Cel mai agasant este faptul că acum nu poți să controlezi individual fiecare familie dintr-un cartier. De fiecare dată când creezi niște Sims, vei avea posibilitatea să construieşti pentru ei un nou oraș (momentan sunt doar 2 disponibile), dar niciodată nu vei putea să îi muți într-un oraș deja ocupat cu altă familie. Dacă vrei să deții controlul unui NPC din oraș, trebuie să îl convingi să se mute cu tine, printr-o prietenie strânsă sau o relație amoroasă. Jocul oferă și familii &#8220;prefabricate&#8221;, cu situații sociale unice (de la mame singure la studenți aglomerați), dar aceleași reguli de o familie per cartier se aplică și pentru acestea.</p>

<p>The Sims 3 este fără îndoială un joc care creează dependență. Şi nu trebuie să fii gospodină sau copil de 7 ani ca să îți placă să te joci de-a creația. În condițiile în care pentru mulți oameni realitatea nu are prea multă coerență, sistemul de dorințe din The Sims 3 este suficient pentru a oferi universului lor o logică și un scop temporar, dar satisfăcător. Dacă Dumnezeu se joacă The Sims, de ce nu am face și noi asta?</p>

<p>Prerequisites:<br />
-install arm-elf-gcc toolchain<br />
-compile your source code with -g option turned on.</p>
<p>Lets us assume your output elf file is main.elf. Type the following command in the terminal to open GDB.</p>
<blockquote><p>arm-elf-gdb main.elf</p></blockquote>
<p>It brings up the gdb prompt. These commands initialises the gdb environment.</p>

load</p></blockquote>
<p>The first statement tells gdb that we are going to simulate ARM processor. Second line tells it to load the current ELF(main.elf) file into memory. Next step is to create some breakpoints and run the code.</p>

<p>You can set breakpoint at a particular function, line number, address or offset.<br />

So today I took off on a BA B747 Simulator for a one hour flight.  After our Health and Safety briefing, we took our seats, Stuart (BA) Captain, Yvette (<a href="http://twitter.com/AirlinesAngel" target="_blank">AirlinesAngel</a>) First Officer, Phil, Observer seat.  Stewart talks about the basics of flight and then the instruments within the flight deck.  After becoming familiar with the controls we were ready for our first take off.</p>

<p>Departing from LHR 27 L we climbed out, reached our cruising level of 3000ft and then had a tour over London, before returning to land.  I completed another couple of<img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-138" title="BA B747-440 Simulator" src="http://aviationstudent.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/dscf0040.jpg?w=150" alt="BA B747-440 Simulator" width="150" height="112" />take off and landings.  My husband had never experienced a go &#8211; around or aborted take off we carried out both, then I completed an automatic landing in visibility of 100m.  Phil then took to the controls for a short flight and then our time on the Sim was over.  I was very interesting and enlightening, to fully experience to what happens within the Flight Deck.</p>

<p>Don&#8217;t be fooled by the name, the Mars 500 watch has gone places far more exotic than the surface of the bright red planet. It has been all the way to Moscow, and the Russian Space Labs simulator. Right now, six very bored Russian Cosmonauts are buried in the ground and will remain there for 520 days (round about the same time it would take to get to Mars). And they will be counting the long, drawn-out seconds to freedom on these brand spankin&#8217; new watches. No word of pricing just yet, but they are exclusive (read: expensive) and only 2012 watches are being produced. Let&#8217;s hope none of them run fast.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Tropico began as a parody to Cold War Caribbean politics, poking fun and making light of a very dark part of the history of the world, the Cold War.  This year, after a deal with Take Two, Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games bring you Tropico 3, which carries on the tradition of Tropico in a much crisper and graphically superior package.</p>
<p>The game, to those of you unfamiliar with the series, is based on building a successful Cold War era Caribbean island nation, complete with competing interests in the United States and the USSR, rebel factions, and tourism.</p>
<p>One of the best features in the game is the tool to create your own &#8220;El Presidente&#8221;, using a multitude of costume choices, hair styles, and hats.  You get to choose the dictators rise to power, traits and faults.  These affect the way your people and the superpowers treat you in the game.</p>
<p>There are multiple game modes in Tropico 3, not unlike the previous titles.  There are full fledged tutorials dedicated to teaching new players basic concepts of the game.  Unfortunately for some, the tutorial may be a little <em>too</em> basic, not allowing players to pick up on some of the subtleties of the title.  The next aspect are the scenarios.  Each scenario has a different goal.  This goal could be to ship $5000 worth of bananas, ship $10000 worth of iron, or have a tourism rating of 80, or any other multitude of basic goals.  In the custom game mode, you can choose from one of the islands from the scenarios, or create your own custom island, choosing foliage levels, altitude, size, and amount of mineral deposits.  This can either raise or lower the difficulty percentage, which affects how easy it is to score points.</p>
<p>In the long run, the goal of the game is to stay in power as long as you can.  If you don&#8217;t maintain a peaceful society and healthy relations with the superpowers, you may risk being invaded or overthrown by your own people.</p>
<p>Deep in the gameplay, there are factions of people on your island that can affect the way the island&#8217;s economy and support for you rises and falls.  These factions include the nationalists, religious, militarists, communists, capitalists, and intellectuals.  You can appease these people by building certain buildings and staffing them accordingly (with high school or college educated people) and issuing edicts that support their cause, like issuing a Papal Visit for the religious faction.</p>
<p>Industry in this game is multifaceted.  There is the mining industry, which involves building a mine near a mineral deposit on the island, and shipping it.  There is a lumber industry, which can run pretty deep, involving cutting the wood, processing it into lumber, and processing that lumber into furniture.  The oil business can be booming as well, allowing for building oil rigs on land and off the coast of your island (this can be VERY profitable) and processing it at a separate dock.  The farming industry is very complex, allowing you to build farms to farm everything from tobacco, to corn, to sugar, in order to make products to ship, or simply to feed your island.  However, many crops are picky on where they can be grown, and a helpful shader map shows where is best to plant the crops.</p>
<p>Last but not least, there is a tourism industry.  This may be the most lucrative industry in the game, opening your doors to foreign tourists.  You have the opportunity to build hotels, resorts, and entertainment facilities to help facilitate a rapid influx of money into your coffers.</p>
<p>This game, for players of the series, is nothing but a rehash with better graphics than the earlier titles.  However, for newer players, this can be a problem, because the game&#8217;s learning curve is steeper than most.  It may take longer on this game to get to the level of mastery you can find in other games like Sim City or Civilization.</p>
<p>Graphically, this game is nice, even at the lower graphical settings.  It features water effects, weather events, and terrain clearly and in a crisp fashion.</p>
<p>As far a replay value, this game is remarkable because of the many ways you can customize your island and leader.  This can have an effect on how you run your island and how you deal with your people (and visa-versa).</p>
<p>The entire game is laden with Latin samba music and great rhythms, however it can be grating.  The same music repeats over and over again.</p>
<p>Overall, this game is a good concept, but it becomes grating to play after awhile and fades in it&#8217;s quality after a few sittings.</p>
<p>Final Verdict: 7/10</p>
