Assured Guaranty Ltd. (NYSE: AGO) over 32% to a yearly high of $28.14 after the company posted earnings of $0.44 per share, beating analysts estimates.  

Semitool Inc (NASDAQ: SMTL) rose over 30% to a yearly high of $11.00 after Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ: AMAT) agreed to buy the company for $11.00 per share, or $364 million.  

Sina Corp (NASDAQ: SINA) rose over 10% today to a yearly high of $47.95 after the Chinese internet portal beat earnings and projected margin improvements.  

Tween Brands Inc (NYSE: TWB) rose over 11% today to a yearly high o $10.16 after the company posted a profite of $0.58 per share, beating analyst estimates.

Sina Richardt es una jovencisima lolita, actriz alemana, la cual aparecio  en la pelicula infantil-familiar llamada “Ruby, el cerdito de carreras” en la que interpretaba a una linda adolescente que de pronto se dio color de que su madre se andaba acostando con un tipejo y que se quieren casar sin pedirle permiso, asi que se alía con su proto-hermanastro (dueño de un rosado cerdito) para arruinarles los planes y de repente, se hayan huyendo de casa en un viaje en el que trataran de llevar a Ruby, el cerdito a “Puercolandia”, un utopico lugar poblado por marranos, en el cual en pequeño lechon podra ser feliz. Y asi, tiene  muchas aventuras, bla, bla, bla… todas esas cosas que suelen aparecer en movies de este tipo. Y no digo que este mal, pues si yo tuviera hijos (bueno, en realidas no se si tenga o no, espero que ningun condon haya fallado) preferiria que vieran esta comedia ligera con “valores familiares” a que vieran mierdas como Brazt o Jarry Puter o esas porquerias que solo sirven para hacer de los niños unos tarados y de las niñas, unas futuras putas. Pero cuando vi la pelicula en una tarde aburrida, lo que mas me llamo la atencion, fue la rubia belleza de la adolescente Sina Richardt, la cual  era notable y rivalizaba con la rosada presencia de Ruby. Aqui, en Tiranetas Corp. creemos que tiene un gran potencial para convertirse en una belleza de cuidado.

Ah, por cierto, si quieren ver el debut de la chiquita, pueden ver la pelicula Gemelas, del 2002,  la cual no ha llegado a Mexico.

Le Comité Colbert vient de lancer son premier portail en partenariat avec Sina.com (le plus grand portail chinois qui compte 600 millions de visites par jour) destiné principalement aux jeunes Chinois et qui se veut un “voyage virtuel interactif pour découvrir le luxe et la culture français”.

“Il s’agit du premier site internet de ce type. La 3D jusqu’à présent n’existe que pour les jeux vidéos, les films, mais il n’y avait aucun site en 3D”, assure Elisabeth Ponsolle des Portes, déléguée générale du Comité Colbert.

On y trouve des objets, du savoir-faire…

Chaque maison a choisi ce qu’elle voulait mettre en avant. Et le résultat est absolument formidable parce que l’on passe d’un atelier de couture aux cuisines d’un palace, des caves d’une maison de champagne à l’élégance d’un magasin. On n’entre pas dans ce voyage par le nom des marques mais par des mots autour du luxe. Nous avons d’ailleurs travaillé avec des linguistes de l’université de Pékin pour offrir la traduction en idéogrammes la plus riche de sens. Nous avons imaginé la démarche la plus “acommerciale” possible, cette oeuvre est avant tout une occasion de nourrir un imaginaire.

Pourquoi une exposition virtuelle et non réelle?

Exposer physiquement les 70 maisons est toujours difficile. Et nous ne voulions pas nous limiter à Shanghai ou Pékin au moment où les villes des différentes provinces se développent à une vitesse incroyable.

Quel moteur de recherche utilisez-vous?

Sina.com, l’équivalent de Google pour la Chine. C’est un système qui offre une couverture fabuleuse, et l’exposition sera visible sur tout le territoire ou presque dès le 29 octobre, date à laquelle elle est inaugurée, simultanément à Pékin et à l’ambassade de Chine, à Paris.

Tout est écrit en chinois?

Oui, mais accessible aux gens du monde entier!

Pourquoi la Chine?

Parce que c’est le pays qui a aujourd’hui la plus forte croissance économique (autour de 10%). De plus, le désir de consommation y est très important et la Chine voit d’un bon oeil le luxe français parce qu’il est porteur d’une consommation de qualité. Nous sommes donc dans un parfait tempo! Aujourd’hui, toutes les maisons du comité, grandes ou petites, comprennent que le marché chinois leur est essentiel et que cela vaut la peine d’imaginer des actions collectives. C’est typiquement un marché où la démarche commune de 70 marques correspondant à des secteurs différents (mode, parfum, hôtellerie, arts de la table…) peut faire comprendre la richesse, l’histoire, l’émotion qu’il y a derrière cet univers. Les maisons ont d’ailleurs parfaitement saisi l’importance de cette démarche en Chine. C’est la première fois dans l’histoire de Colbert que toutes participent.

Imaginez-vous cette exposition itinérante en route, ensuite, vers l’Inde ou la Russie?…

Pourquoi pas! Parler collectivement du luxe à des cultures émergentes est selon moi une démarche très efficace, qui donne une image moderne et compétitive de notre univers. Et la Russie, l’Inde, les pays du Golfe sont aussi des régions très prometteuses.

I really like Chinese culture and I’m a big fan of French luxury that keeps rare jobs alive. So the event I couldn’t missed – I missed (it happens) – was at at 10 a.m. in Paris (5 p.m. in Beijing ), at the amdassy of China, for the launch of cColbert : “An unusual virtual experience for the Chinese Net surfers. An interactive 3D  journey in French luxury”, with His Excellency, the Chinese Ambassador in France, Mr. Kong Quan, and Mr Wang Yan, Founding Chairman of Sina (the Chinese biggest Web portal) and Mrs Du Hong, Chief executive officer of Sina and Mrs Françoise Montenay, Chairman of the Comité Colbert and the Chairmen of members houses of the Comité Colbert.

Great, but what is the Comité Colbert? What does it do? Founded in 1954 at the initiative of Jean-Jacques Guerlain, the Comité Colbert, is a French association representing 70 houses of luxury whose object is to collectively promote their shared values in France and internationally: “Their quest is to combine tradition and modernity, craftsmanship and creativity, history and innovation“. Today French luxury in China is present in 69 towns with more than 1600 sales  outlets (apart from wines and  spirits) and focuses : ”The Chinese young that enjoy new beautiful things and the diversity of the French luxury“. Between 2009 and 2010, 45 new boutiques will be open in 15 towns. Docemente curiosa – observadora ao extremo. Questiono, duvido, atrevo. Ante o novo enfrento o medo, estendo minhas mãos pedindo colo. Mando beijos, solfejos, gracejos. Diluo meu coração em crer sem restrição, confio, amo e por vezes me engano. Chorar é apenas dar vazão ao que inunda e transborda na infância retida em um coração de menina que ama incondicionalmente. Tropeço, caio, me ralo, mas de explorar não paro. Sou assim desde que percebi que estava viva. Enquanto me tornava mulher.

Felina, sinuosa, espreito na dúvida. Marcante, sagaz, multiplico meu instinto, intuo como se pudesse tocar acontecimentos. Tento ser forte, auto-suficiente. Mas tenho um que totalmente dependente. Essa fusão menina-mulher faz meu eu que pode ser doce e sensual, atrevida e casual, por vezes alegre, por vezes introspectiva. Uma mescla de definições, uma aventura em forma de pessoa. Mensch Sina, das fand ich jetzt gerade aber echt mutig von dir, den Pocher als Praktikanten auf deinem Hof an deine Tiere zu lassen.

Da besteht ja durchaus die kalkulierbare Gefahr, dass nicht nur deine Arbeit, sondern unser gesamter Berufsstand durch den Kakao gezogen wird.

Apropos Berufsstand: Worin der Unterschied zwischen Tierarzt und Tierheilpraktiker besteht, hat Pocher wohl immer noch nicht verstanden. Wollte er aber auch gar nicht.

Ich denke, ihr habt bei den Aufnahmen einen spassigen Tag verlebt, Pocher hat einen witzischen Beitrag senden koennen und dein Bekanntheitsgrad duerfte sich potenziert haben.

Wenn ich gewusst haette, dass man den Pocher einladen kann und der bringt einen ins Fernsehen, ich haette es nicht gemacht.

Tim and I planned a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to celebrate our first Canadian holiday as expats.  While most of you were enjoying turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie a week ago, the boys and I were still zombies recovering from the 9-hour time difference.  After a week of adjusting our sleeping patterns, visiting countless grocery stores, specialty food stores and ethnic grocers for the necessary ingredients and up until the wee hours preparing food, we sat down to overloaded plates on Sunday night.

Tim had to resort to desparate measures for the onion cutting! I was five feet away and still weeping...oh wait, I was crying from laughing so hard!

To join in the festivities, we invited a few friends (okay, we invited our only friends) and set out to provide them with a real Canadian experience.  In total, we had 3 English, 2 Germans, and 5 Canadians crammed in around our IKEA breakfast table jutted up against our friend’s matching IKEA breakfast table (so there is an upside to everyone having the same furniture as you…).

Thanksgiving is of course a holiday commemorating the pilgrims who discovered the Americas and gave thanks for the first harvest, so I knew that Europeans wouldn’t celebrate it. What I wasn’t expecting were the guests who had never tasted pumpkin pie! EVER!  The lack of interest in pumpkin pie means you don’t find the canned stuff in grocery stores here but Tim suggested we boil and puree our own pumpkins…what a great idea! It turned out fantastically and when you think about how easy it is to make pumpkin pie, it’s really not all that much work to make the puree yourself.

I had a chuckle at the English guests telling me that my Brussels Sprouts with Pecan Brown Butter were “simply brilliant”. It just sounded so praiseful with their sophisticated accents and all.  And speaking of brilliant, Tim did an incredible job of his first turkey!  I think the opening line of the recipe directions pretty much sums it up: “2 to 3 days before roasting:”. Say WHAT?! Yeah, you read that right…he started working on preparations for the bird 2 days before dinner!  In fact, it goes further back than that because he had to first find a butcher who could order him a turkey.  After a fair bit of charades and basic German communication, the butcher got on the phone and called a local farmer, secured a turkey of our size and ordered it right there! Now that’s local.

The only other cultural oddity was the comments about my gravy looking “real”. I was perplexed. I’ve never heard of “fake” gravy.  Everyone in my family knows that I take gravy very seriously. The gravy is MY deal. As it turns out, the Swiss don’t even know what gravy is (I mean, who needs gravy when you have melted cheese slathered over everything?) but they typically have what’s called “brown sauce”…an imitation gravy made from a…(GASP!)…package! My mom might be having a panic attack right this very minute.  But it begs the question, if we balk at the brown sauce, I wonder what types of horrific culinary crimes WE North Americans committ?

Tim: How about slices of processed “cheese”?!

Hmmm…good one hun. The Swiss would surely frown upon one-ingredient-from-plastic-American-cheese.  Geesh, there’s only one deli in all of Basel that even sells bonafide Cheddar Cheese!

All in all, it was a hugely successful Thanksgiving Dinner with great food and fantastic company.  Once we retired for the evening (after hanging out with the English folks, I’m allowed to say words like “retired”, it’s great!), Tim and I reflected on what worked and what we can change for next year when we realized that we forgot to go around the table and share what we’re thankful for! Well, had we remembered, I would have announced that I am thankful for all the support these dear friends have given Tim and I as we make this huge life change. Thank you Martin & Anne, Joel & Sina, and our newest friends, Stephen & Ruth! We appreciate you all.

China Real Estate Information Corporation (NASDAQ: CRIC) has priced its 18 million share initial public offering at $12.00 per share.  While this is not an easy structure, this IPO has ramifications for two other big Chinese public companies.  CRIC is a subsidiary of E-House (China) Holdings Limited (NYSE: EJ) and it will merge with the online real estate business of SINA Corporation (NASDAQ: SINA) effective as of the closing of CRIC’s IPO.

This IPO was in the middle of the pricing range of $11.80 to $13.80 that had been indicated.  Credit Suisse and UBS were the joint book-runners on the deal, and these underwriters were given a 30-day option to buy up to 2,700,000 additional ADSs from CRIC to cover over-allotments.

E-House will be the majority shareholder of CRIC and SINA will be the second largest shareholder of CRIC.  All shares being sold in the IPO are being sold by the company.

Exasperada, meu corpo treme. Minha respiração soa qual ventania, tempestade, ofegante, agonizante. Cada célula está alerta, não posso dormir. Tomaste-me sem querer apenas em palavras, busquei refúgio em outro ninho. Fui tocada pensando em ti, mas o corpo que me acolheu não foi capaz de espantar o frio, foi fogo de palha, ascendeu e se exauriu, deixando-me na tormenta, insatisfeita, desfeita. No chão estou, destilando a dor, refém da indiferença alheia disfarçada de arrependimento. Minha alma dilacerada sangra, flui nos cortes feitos pelo desejo atiçado e não saciado, o ego jogado de um precipício implora arrego. Desculpas não bastam para controlar a sede de amor, ardor. Sinto-me fraca… Fui capaz de satisfazer rápido demais alguém que na ânsia dos beijos me quis e me tomou, como se toma um raro e caro vinho em vigorosos goles sem nem sentir o sabor, sem dar valor e acabou-se. Continuo aqui no chão frio, madrugada afora empurrando garganta abaixo motivos e porquês. Minha face arde marcada por beijos que não foram o bastante, meu coração bate resguardado apenas por saber que de alguma forma em algum lugar significo alguma coisa. Ainda queima, ainda queima!
