Ih kok udah lama sih ga posting makanan enak? Iya maap, sibuk alias riweuh alias ga sempet. Padahal

Ih kok udah lama sih ga posting makanan enak?

Iya maap, sibuk alias riweuh alias ga sempet. Padahal makanan enaknya sih jalan terus kok .

Namanya Wong Kee.

Iya asli, enak sih semuanya. Mie nya juga enak. Harganya kira2 nih ya, 6 ribuan sepotong, jadi semangkok begini kira2 36 ribuan lah. Worth it. Mana kuah laksanya enaks banget.

Iya sih Singapore panas, tapi AC AC indoornya kan suka bikin kedinginan, ngehe. Kalo belum sempat ke Singapore, mari kita makan ke Wong Kee ajah di PVJ yuks!

Hello, because I cant get started on my Gen Ed CA, I have decided to like, blog although its gonna b

Hello, because I cant get started on my Gen Ed CA, I have decided to like, blog although its gonna be something really lame and no one would be interested cos I have such a boring life. Ok actually no, my life’s pretty exciting, just not as exciting as actors or youtubers or whatsoever.

And because I’m bored, I’ve decided to come up with a blog post on facts about myself. I don’t know how many, let’s just see how much I can write. Maybe I’ll end up writing my life story hah.

Ok, so let’s go.

Fact #1: I’m 17 this year.

Hellayeah one more year to being legal heh. And I’m telling you (whoever reading this I bet no one does) this because I don’t know why I just dont look 17. Some people think I’m older, like this one time when I was in Sec 2, someone actually told me that I look like I had taken my O levels. And some think I’m younger, like they think I’m like Sec 2. I DON’T KNOW WHY.

Fact #2: I’m Singaporean.

I’ve been told that I look like korean, japanese, hongkong-ese and just not chinese. Ya I’m happy but I’m pure singaporean and I guess I’m glad to say I’m one? I love how clean Singapore is, and I really like Marina Bay Sands area! And did I mention I really like watching local productions? I LOVE LOBANG OMG.

Fact #3: I love asians, like really really really really love asians.

I don’t know why but I only have eyes for asians. Like whatever people around me label as a “hot angmoh”, I dont find them hot at all. And I guess its just me but, really, I think asians look better. No, I’m not putting caucasians down, they’re all good looking in their ways but I guess I just dont know how to appreciate them. Like everyone says Zac Efron is so handsome and all but nuh-uh, not me. I really think that Wesley Chan looks so much better! Ok, maybe I’m just biased but still. I really like asians.

Fact #4: I like kpop, but not exactly kpop.

Yeah I like kpop but not exactly kpop. Like if you showed me a picture of Block B or BAP I wouldn’t be able to recognise them. And honestly, BAP’s famous One Shot, I havent even heard it once. And I dont know la, alot of korean songs I dont know one if you ask me. I only listen to artistes that I like, like Super Junior, Big Bang, 2NE1, some SNSD and maybe like some 2PM, Hyuna, Epik High? I listen selectively la. And I really like korean songs. I have no idea why people say I’m “siao over kpop” when obviously I’m just “siao over the people I like”. And ya, I’m a fan of korean dramas but not exactly korean dramas. Same logic.

Fact #6: I rarely listen to english songs.

Only selective ones, like if its really really really nice, I’ll listen. Like I like Airplanes by Hayley Williams. Oh and if people strongly recommend me to listen, I will……… some. And if youtubers I like covers the song. I usually dont listen to the original versions of this happen, I’ll just stick with the yotubers’ version. Like Jayesslee covered Price Tag, I didnt listen to the original version at all. Today was the first time I listened. Call me outdated suibian la.

Fact #7: Youtube less then three.

I really love love love love love love loveeeeeeee Youtube!!!! I love the person who created youtube so I can always watch amazing people like nigahiga, kevjumba, WONG FU PRODUCTIONS and alot more. Ryan higa is dabomb he’s so handsome and funny and just everything a girl wants hahahahahahaha. Easily labeled the hottest asian ever. Er wait seungri also!!! Ah but ya youtube, no sidetracking. I think youtube is really a place where helps me to relax and all, like when I’m feeling really cranky and stuff, I’d go to youtube it always cheers me up.

Fact #8: Super Junior and Big Bang.

I think this is the 7th year I’m into Super Junior and this June would mark my 2nd year with Big Bang. Went for 2 Super Shows (contemplating a 3rd one this year) but haven’t gone for any Big shows YET. Ah this two is my favourite ok. If I’m gonna say anymore I can write a whole post on them. But just to summarise, I think SJ and Bigbang are like my two fav groups because whatever they do just makes me happy. Envious of the bond between them. But ya, they really cheer me up la. Haiya I also dont know how to say, non-fangirls will never understand!!!!!

Fact #9: Wongfu Productions

Wong fu productions, I have to say, is my ultimate inspiration to be a filmmaker. I can only use one word to describe their shorts: AMAZING. Check them out on youtube. If you’ve read my previous blog posts, you’d know how much I really look up to them. Wesley Chan is my fav cos you can’t spell AWESOME without WES. Ofcourse I love all the others too. But I love their talent for filmmaking and scripting really. #Wongfu4lyfe

(My facts getting shorter hahahahahahahaha 9PM show starting)

Fact #10: LOVE.

There is one fact that everyone needs to know and that is Jesus loves each and everyone of us. People may not believe it but you will one day trust me. God’s love for us is really one of a kind. Everyone should have heard at least once that God sent his one and only son to die for us sinners right? But did you know that even if you were the only one in the world, God would have done the same too? He knows every single thing about us even before we were born. His love for us is deeper then the deepest ocean, bigger then the galaxy.

I haven’t talked about this before but I think I should now! I did pretty well for my O levels (well to me, not well to some), with an L1R4 of 14 and L1R5 of 18. It’s a pretty big jump from all my exam results in school, considering that I had L1R4 27 and L1R5 30+ for my MYE and Prelims last year. I was overjoyed when I learnt I had 14 although I could not get into my dream course. I had B3 for every subject except a B4 for my combined humans and A2 for my pure geog. This is a great big improvement considering I failed like most of my subjects in common tests and school exams. I did from an E8 to B3 for Emath for O levels, F9 to B3 for Combined physics/ chem, C6 to A2 for pure geog. It definitely has to be God right? I couldn’t have improved that much on my own. Also God has blessed me with really awesome friends who were always there for me in my toughest time during O levels and I’m really grateful for without them, I dont think I’d be able to improve that much on my own too.

Back to fact 10, I also have other definitions of love la, like duh, I watch so many dramas. I also want 2 guys to fight over me like in 96C Cafe but nehhh, I dont have the ability to.

Hehehe so I know this is a wordy post and I thank YOU for taking time to read this. Just 10 random facts about myself and I apologize for the wordy post hehheh. Less then three, reader whoever you are!!!

I am so excited with Michelle Chong up coming movie which cast Calvin Chen Yi Ru (Fahrenheit) and Alexander Lee Eusebio (ex member of U-kiss) and also new actress auditioned, Jae Liew.

Honestly, I am not a fan of Michelle or any Singaporean actress whom are active in Malaysia or Singapore. some Singaporean movie or drama which I watched really can count by my fingers. For me, Singaporean movie famous for their comedy and that’s all. I’m not stupid (hai zi bu ben) was first movie I watched when I was a little girl and the others movie I like is one of Michelle Chong starred with Aillen Huang (tw actor, singer, host) “already famous”

What makes me so excited and interested is the actors, Calvin Chen and Alexander Lee. Both of the actors are famous boyband member from Taiwan and Korea, both of them are rising stars especially to Calvin, he has played in many Taiwan and Mainland dramas.

I wonder who’s the actress will play with these two nice guys since both Calvin and Alexander have a warm smile and they are also famous plus good-looking according to each fans, ahahahahahahaha.

Michelle Chong has said she wanted to find new fresh face that fits to take Penny role, the female lead. she held an audition months ago and finally she got Jae Liew who is also Singaporean.

I kinda curious what kind of female lead Michelle looking for in order to fit Penny character. more than 800 people got to fight in order to win Penny role and played with Calvin Chen and Alexander Lee. finally, Jae Liew is the “Lucky” girl, that how netizens said about her. I won’t judge her as lucky girl but I try to believe with Michelle eyes-sight to get Jae as female lead. can’t wait to watch the movie.

ta ta ta 他她他
I get news that Agnes Monica gonna play as cameo in 3Peas.

Annyeong hasayo and welcome to another edition of Mastication Monologues! So this past weekend was

Annyeong hasayo and welcome to another edition of Mastication Monologues! So this past weekend was quite action packed, and I thought it was going to be a restful day on Cinco de Mayo. Korea had other thoughts. Instead, I found myself outside in the middle of Seoul on a beautiful day at an international food festival. There were tents all over the streets surrounding the Seoul city hall where people from all over the globe were offering opportunities for visitors to learn something new about a different culture through music, clothes, and my favorite, food. It was extremely crowded for some interesting countries that I wouldn’t have expected like Kyrgyzstan with their shish kebabs or Iraq with their own version of doner kebab. I guess people can’t get enough of roasting meat over open flames on sticks. Perhaps it hits some sort of primal chord within us that hearkens all the way back to our prehistoric ancestors when they felled their first woolly mammoth and had history’s first barbecue. I wasn’t swayed by the Central Asian sensation and instead went for the funkiest things I could find from countries’ cuisines that I have never sampled before. First up, Kenya.

After breezing through Asia, Europe, and Latin America, we went to the African stalls. Once we got to the Kenya tent, there was a delicious aroma wafting through the air, and we quickly found the source.

It was the smell of fried mandazi. They looked like gigantic samosas which are fried dumplings that contain vegetables and meat, but I was greatly mistaken when I was handed a freshly fried one and took a bite.

Needs more Amurcan fattening ingredients

It was piping hot and perfectly fried to a golden-yellow similar to the sun that was shining that day, but it was a sweet, not savory, treat. It was kind of like a freshly fried American donut but not as sweet. My friend Ben said that it could use some powdered sugar, and I wholeheartedly agreed. Either that or maybe some sort of dipping sauce. Still, mandazi was a solid first choice out of many at the fair. Next up, Iran.

I have had Persian food before, but I never saw these two types of food they were serving: geimeh and zereshk polo. I decided to only pick geimeh because the zereshk polo was pricier. Geimeh has roots all the way back to Mesopotamia and is a stew containing lamb, tomatoes, peas, and onions while being garnished with potato fries and jalapeno peppers. I also got some seasoned rice and a mini salad on the side. Overall, it was a solid choice. The stew was quite hearty with large pieces of lamb that were very tender and the vegetables added extra body to the stew. It went very well with the rice that was seasoned with tomato paste, cumin, and tumeric and contained more peas and some carrots. The salad was fresh but was not very impressive. However, the potato fries were a unique element to the meal because they weren’t exactly like typical French fries because they were in some sort of spice that I couldn’t quite identify. The last two snacks came from Asiatic countries: Singapore and Malaysia.

I already knew the Singaporian cuisine is a reflection of all of the different ethnic enclaves that occupy the tiny but rich southeast Asian nation. So when I saw small fried vegetable fritters, I could immediately see influences from both the Indian community with their love for fried treats like samosas while the cooks were using Chinese vegetables like bean sprouts, Chinese celery, carrots, bok choi, and spring onions. It was about as big as my hand, but it was kind of a let down. While it was expertly fried, the vegetables were drowned out by the greasy aftertaste of the dough. There in lies the fine line one treads when frying food. Harmony has to be struck between using enough batter while allowing the internal ingredients to shine. While the Singaporean food let me down, my final choice from Malaysia ended up being the most bizarre and my favorite food out of all of them.

I saw no one was going to the Malaysia tent, so I walked up to see they were offering sago gula melaka a.k.a. “best seller” according to their sign that had the price slashed. It was somewhat worrisome, but I asked them what it was. They said it was, “Sweet dessert coconut”. Those three words together sounded great to me, so I got one cup of it. After about ten minutes of breaking into the Fort Knox of dessert cups, I opened the container to find something that looked absolutely disgusting.

A beast and a beauty in one

It looked like someone puked in the cup and then threw in some pale yellow fish eggs that had congealed into a small sponge. I was wondering to myself how could something so terrible looking actually be delicious? I was quickly proven wrong when I took a spoonful of the brownish-white goop. A perfect example of never judging a book by its cover. It literally tasted like a vanilla pastry sprinkled with coconut. Texture wise it was different too because it was semi-gummi but quickly disintegrated after a couple good chews. This is because sago is derived from a plant similar to the tapioca root which is used in Asian cuisine to make gelatin. The brownish white soup was palm sugar syrup which supplied the vanilla-esque sweetness. Sago gula melaka is the prototypical ugly duckling of desserts in my experiences, but I would recommend anyone who has a sweet tooth to try it.

Overall I had a fun time at the food festival, and it just goes to show that if you try things that may seem scary, there really isn’t anything bad about them. So follow your stomach and go explore the culinary wilderness!

I mentioned in an earlier post that there is a supper joint I’m currently in love with. And this is it! Seng Kee Black Herbal Chicken Soup in Kembangan.

Seng Kee

The name of the eatery has ‘Black Herbal Chicken Soup’ in it, but honestly, I think the winner there is their herbal pork meat/liver/kidney mee sua soup. This dish is truly stunning in its simplicity and immense flavour. I’ve tried a few variations – mee sua with pork (sliced lean meat) only, mee sua with pork and liver, just soup with these two versions, ($5 or $6, for regular or large) and just plain herbal soup, which they put beancurd skin in ($3).

The wonderful herbal mee sua soup from Seng Kee

And all of these are good. My favourite is the version with pork meat and liver though – the meaty flavour is well distributed within the soup, with bits of pork floating about in it, signs of how long they have been boiling together with it. Such that, every mouthful has a very satisfying and tasty meaty yet herbal taste to it. The slightly herbal taste comes from the base soup I think, which when served alone, is an intense black colour – likely from the Chinese herbs.

The mee sua is nice too, soft and silky smooth. I’d say the meat is slightly tough though, and the beancurd skin in the soup versions are a bit on the chewy side too. Still worth the trip purely for the soup though. I don’t know how else to describe the lovely, rich and delicious soup, but if you’re ever in the East and thinking of having supper, this is a place worth trying!

The delightful Crispy Prawn Rolls

Seng Kee also does the usual ‘zi char’ dishes like cereal prawns, crabs, stir-fried vegetables etc - tried the stir-fried broccoli and pork rib king dish, these were alright. But they had some star items for this category that we happened to try – the Crispy Prawn Rolls (around $11) and Fried Ngoh Hiang ($11 for small).

The super delicious Fried Ngoh Hiang, or ‘Hei Zou’ as some people call it

These were both SO delicious! Fried to a nice crisp yet moist and juicy inside, and packed full with the flavour of prawns and meat (and some prawns too) respectively. Not too oily, and they went nicely with the mayonaise and sweet sauce that came along with these. I really enjoy these little fried delights.

I think I did try the black chicken herbal soup before as well; if I remember correctly, this wasn’t too bad.

So anyway, I know I’ve waxed lyrical about the soup, but really, it’s just that good. Been going there with Z almost every week for supper, and each time, we went home satisfied.

—————————————————-

It is a pity that just when I have the free time to blog about the Wok & Barrel, they have just closed down a month ago, due to manpower issues I believe.

While many have said that the Wok & Barrel is an expensive place, I do feel that the food is worth the money but it is indeed expensive so I didn’t really visit them as much as I would have liked to.

The chef of the Wok & Barrel – Shen Tan – however did cook up delicious dishes worthy of the new ‘Mod Sin‘1 term that’s been going around, like their ba chor mee pasta or beef rendang pizza.

And even though they’re no longer in operation, she’s still keeping those creative juices flowing and cooking up dishes like “slow cooked tongue with an Indomie inspired sauce of kicap manis, chilli, onion and garlic powder, lard tossed through prawn flavoured egg noodles“.

In any case, I’m not going to bother writing a review but just going to put up a pictorial of all the food that I’ll be missing!

Meh I keep blogging on my iphone in the subway where it fails to upload, and then totally forget about my posts the moment I emerge from underground. Lol this post was from last Friday:

Today’s a slow day for me again. And I’m lugging 7 big cardboard boxes home and gonna spend the rest of the evening packing. So tired.

Was thinking about work when M asked about business in sg, is it as fast and crazy as it is here, and I said probably. He heard it is, or even faster. Hmmm. But I realized I wouldn’t have cared. I was a baby, when I first started working. Yes I’m super fast at getting jobs done, hardworking etc. But responsible? I guess only as much as I feel like being.

Without the pressure of paying rent, bills, saving money, I couldn’t care less if I lose the job. Going back to school was an easy choice and just thicken my skin ask mommy support me lor. But out of it I get nothing valuable besides an extra certification, the gratification of bumming around for another 2 years, and a mountain of debt I will always feel like I owe to my mom for depleting her financial resources just to chase my dreams.

I was a baby. All of us will be babies until we take that step out into the real world and taste real independence. Have that parental support yanked out of your feet like a rug. If not it’ll always be “nehmind I’ll ask my dad/mom to support/pay for me first, they will always help me”. Yeah they will. They love us that’s why. But no. I grew up.

Everyday is a learning process, I doubt it’ll ever stop. No, we know we’ll never stop learning each day, as long as the heart is willing and the mind is disciplined. And every freaking working moment I try my best to be more responsible, less forgetful, on top of every damn thing, making sure every detail is double-checked and perfect for my perfectionist-Virgo boss -.- and it makes me better each day, and keeps him in a better mood so everyone else can get off their toes around him.

It’s tiring. And I only have this pile of cardboard boxes to lean on while on the subway home. I wonder if I have the strength to carry on until I’m sipping on a glass of champagne, looking out of my floor-to-ceiling windows in my upper-east-side luxury apartment, toasting to my new bachelorette-pad *_* lol daydreaming la. I guess as long as I see my EXP meter continuously filling up, I’ll gladly charge ahead on this long and wondrous journey I already decided to embark on.

Jiayou Kawen. So long never hear the word jiayou already. Until Fai played NYP’s video last night haha.

After exploring the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail, we joined a tour of the air raid shelter at Blk 78 Moh Guan Terrace. The 1500 square metre air raid shelter was built in 1939 and can hold 1600 people. It is the only pre-war air raid civilian shelter still in existence today.

Tiong Bahru was not the main target of Japanese bombing during WWII so the shelter was hardly used. People would enter the shelter through a trap door in the ceiling. That entrance is now sealed and it is in what is currently PS Cafe Petit.

The short tour was an eye-opener; I had no idea that something like this exists in Singapore. The air was musty and I felt claustrophic inside even though I was there for only 20 minutes. Can’t imagine what it would be like to hide there for hours, or even days! I don’t think I’d do very well in a war and I can only hope that the peace we enjoy in Singapore will not be rudely interrupted.

My aunt and I went on the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail last Sunday. It was very interesting and we lea

My aunt and I went on the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail last Sunday. It was very interesting and we learnt a lot about this old neighbourhood. On a personal note, I finally understand why my grandma and older relatives refer to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) as Si Pai Por! The present SGH compound used to contain roads named Sepoy Ave, Sepoy Lane and Sepoy Lines. These roads were named for the Sepoy camp in that area. Hence, Si Pai Por is dialect for Sepoy Plains.

We started our trail at Tiong Bahru market where we learnt about the history of Tiong Bahru and the origin of its name. I’d always thought that ‘Tiong Bahru’ meant ‘New Centre’ as in tiong (中, or centre, in dialect) and bahru (new in Malay), but it actually means ‘New Cemetery’ because the tiong is 终 which means ‘to die’ or ‘in the end’.

You can read an overview of the Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail on the NHB website, find out more about guided tours for this trail and the air raid shelter, or download the brochure here. Here are some photos I took along the trail but it’d be a lot more meaningful to go on a guided tour to discover Tiong Bahru for yourself!

This bird corner at Link Hotel replaces a popular one that used to be across the road at the Wah Heng coffee shop. The area which the original bird corner was found in is now part of Nostalgia Hotel.

bird corner

I go to Tan Boon Liat building now and then to visit SKS Bookstore but never knew that there are graves just across the road! And not just any graves; these graves belong to Tan Tock Seng, his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter-in-law. I generally like visiting cemeteries so this was my favourite part of the tour because it was such a surprise to see the graves there, out of sight just above a busy road.

grave of Mdm Chua Seah Neo and Mdm Wuing Neo

Tan Tock Seng’s grave

We walked by the former Institute of Health which has since moved to new premises at Singapore General Hospital. One thing I like about the older buildings in Singapore, built before air-conditioning was commonly used, is the consideration for ventilation with air vents being a prominent part of the design of the building.

former Institute of Health

If you have ever watched any version of the popular Journey to the West series, you would be familiar with the Monkey God. The Monkey God Temple in Tiong Bahru was founded in 1920 and moved to the present location in 1938. There are more than 10 Monkey God statues in the temple and the oldest is almost a century old.

dragon pillar outside Monkey God temple

During the heritage trail, we also looked at the different architectural styles of the buildings found in Tiong Bahru, with quite a difference between the pre-war and post-war buildings. The pre-war buildings were built in the Streamline Moderne style, a late development of the Art Deco movement, with aerodynamic lines. The post-war buildings were built in the International Style with clean and simple lines.

Streamline Moderne architecture

The Dancing Girl scuplture found in Seng Poh Garden was created by Lim Nang Seng, the same sculptor who created the (in)famous Merlion. It is supposed to depict a girl doing a joyful harvest dance.

Dancing Girl sculpture

Blk 78 Moh Guan Terrace is in the shape of a horseshoe and is the largest block of flats in Tiong Bahru. One of the oldest surviving coffee shops in Tiong Bahru, Hua Bee, is found in there. It was started in the 1940s and was the set for Eric Khoo’s 1995 movie, Mee Pok Man. Blk 78 includes a purpose-built air raid shelter and we went on a tour of the shelter after our Tiong Bahru Heritage Tour.

So today I had dinner with my family aka my mum and dad. We went to AMK Hub for New York New York! The food there is classically Western and it was really filling.

And my parents had a party platter on which there was fish, prawn, chicken, potatoes, corn and more. The BBQ sauce was amazing with chicken.

Cafe D’lite apparently changed their name to Mamalee?

HAINANESE CHICKEN ($9.99)

Someone fill me in, did Cafe D’Lite change their name because of new owners? I wouldn’t even eat this dish again even if it was free. The food wasn’t even half as good as before. Even the Cafe D’Lite express inside Aberdeen looks AND taste way more appetizing. The dish took forever to come out, when it’s only chicken and rice, and it should be a staple. The server brought out one dish and 10 minutes later brought out the second rice. I have a really hard time understanding why. The chicken was so bland, my 7 years old sister present better looking dishes. What happened Cafe D’lite?!!

She’s fun-loving and really sociable. She’s obsessed with anything to do with the colour pink.
She’s a dancer, like moi.
She’s also fun size, which we all know, is the best size.
She’s an aspiring blogger and the link to her blog will be down below.
She plays the uke, guitar, piano and all that jazz.
She has a weird wheezing/asthma type laugh.
But she’s really photogenic, a skill that she uses to its fullest extent. Proven on her instagram account.
People always judge her for all the wrong reasons but she’s fair, y’know. She doesn’t do the same until she gets to know the person better.
And despite her size, she’s a big fab of food. Her record is 8 meals a DAY!

That’s 10 things about Steffie! <del>my ah ma</del>
