เพิ่งผ่านวอร์ดอาย (Eye…ที่ซีรี่สมัยนี้ เรียน eye และ ENT พร้อมกันไปเรย 6 อาทิตย์) ตอนเรียนเรื่อง refractive error หรือความผิดปกติของสายตา เรากะปวรนั่งเรียนไป เอ๊ะไป ตลอดเวลา เพราะความรู้ชาวบ้านที่เคยรู้มามันไม่ใช่นิ เราก็เลยอยากเอามาเล่าสู่ให้ชาวบ้านรู้ต่อ (หรือว่าคนอื่นเค้ารู้กัน แต่เราไม่รู้เนี่ย แต่น้องทั้งห้องก็งงกันใหญ่เรยนะ) แต่มันหลายอาทิตย์มาแล้วน่ะ จะระลึกได้กี่เรื่องกันง่ะ

ปล. เดี๋ยวค่อยอัญเชิญปริ้นมาตรวจสอบความถูกผิดเวอชั่นนศพ. แต่ไม่รู้ปริ้นจะว่างมั้ย เด๊นท์อายนี่เยินเหมือนกันนะ

ปล. 2 ไหนๆก็ไหนๆ ถ้านึกออกเกี่ยวกะเรื่องนี้อีก จะมาอัพเดทเป็นระยะ

เอารูปตามาประกอบเพื่อความเข้าใจ แสงจะผ่านเข้าตา ผ่านน้ำตาที่เคลือบ กระจกตา (cornea) เลนส์ และของเหลวที่แทรกๆ จนไปตกที่เรตินาด้านหลัง ซึ่งมีจุดรับภาพสีโดยเฉพาะคือ macula ในรูป (พยายามหารูปซิมเปิ้นๆ เอามาจาก www.heightseyecare.com)

Myth: สายตายาว คือ การมองไกลชัด แต่มองใกล้ไม่ชัด

Truth: ไม่ใช่จ้ะ สายตายาวมองอะไรก็ไม่ชัดจ้ะ ขออธิบายสายตาสั้นก่อนเพราะเข้าใจง่ายกว่า สายตาสั้นเกิดจากความโค้งของกระจกตา (cornea) มากเกินไปหรือเลนส์ป่องเกินไป แสงก็เลยหักเหเข้ามามาก (คุ้นๆจากตอนเรียนประถมมะ แต่เค้าสอนผิดเรื่องสายตายาวนะ) ภาพมันก็เลยตกก่อนจะไปถึงฉากรับภาพ ซึ่งก็คือ เรตินา ก็เลยเห็นภาพไม่ชัด อีกสาเหตุนึงของสายตาสั้นคือ มีกระบอกตายาวเกิน แสงก็เลยตกไปไม่ถึงซะที การแก้ก็ใช้เลนส์เว้ากระจายแสงตามความรู้ชาวบ้านนั่นแหละ ส่วนสายตายาว ก็เกิดจากสาเหตุตรงข้ามกัน คือ กระจกตาหรือเลนส์แบนไป หรือว่า กระบอกตาสั้นไป แสงก็เลยโดนกระจาย กว่าจะเข้ามารวมเป็นจุดเดียวกันได้ ก็เลยเรตินาไปไกลแล้ว การแก้ก็ต้องใช้เลนส์นูนให้รวมแสงเข้ามาเร็วๆหน่อย

แล้วมันต่างกับที่เคยเข้าใจตรงไหน ก็สายตาสั้น จะทำให้เรามองไกลไม่ชัดชิมิ แต่ใกล้ๆชัด เพราะตาจะมีการปรับของมันให้เลนส์ป่องมองใกล้ชัดได้ แต่สายตายาวไม่ว่าแสงจากไหนมามันก็ไม่ชัด (อาจจะเพราะสาเหตุส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากกระบอกตาสั้น ตาปรับอะไรไม่ค่อยได้) ยกเว้นที่จุดๆนึงที่ไกลระดับนึง แล้วส่งแสงมารวมกันตกลงเรตินาพอดี แต่ถ้าไกลกว่านั้นไปอีก ก็ไม่ชัดละ

Myth: สายของคนแก่ คือ สายตายาว

Truth: ไม่ใช่อีกแล้วจ้ะ ถ้าเคยเห็นคนแก่อ่านหนังสือ เค้าจะบอกว่าเค้ามองใกล้ไม่ชัด แต่เค้าจะเลื่อนหนังสือออกไป แล้วมันจะชัดขึ้น แสดงว่าเค้ามองไกลได้ชัดกว่า แต่สายตายาวมันไม่ชัดเลยอย่างที่บอก ในคนแก่เนี่ยเกิดจากเลนส์มันแข็งขึ้น ไม่เดี๋ยวป่องเดี๋ยวแฟบเหมือนตอนเด็กๆ แล้วพอเวลามองใกล้โดยปกติเนี่ย เราต้องทำให้เลนส์ป่องเป็นการโฟกัส แสงจะได้หักเหเข้ามามากๆ (เพราะรับภาพใกล้) พอเลนส์แข็งแล้วก็ป่องไม่ไหว ก็เลยโฟกัสไม่ได้ ก็เลยมองใกล้ไม่ชัดตามมา แต่ภาพจากไกลๆไม่ต้องอาศัยอะไรแบบนี้ ก็เลยยังเห็นได้ดี เพราะฉะนั้นสายตาของคนแก่ ก็จะเรียกให้ดูดีว่า สายตาผู้สูงอายุ

Myth: อ่านหนังสือบนรถจะสายตาสั้น นอนตะแคงดูทีวีจะสายตาเอียง

Truth: อาจารย์เซ่ด ตอนนี้ยังไม่มีอะไรบอกได้จิงๆว่าอะไรเป็นสาเหตุของสายตาสั้น น่าจะเกี่ยวกับเรื่องกรรมพันธุ์ แต่สาเหตุอย่างอื่นที่ชอบเอามาขู่กันนี่ยังไม่มีงานวิจัยอะไรรองรับ อย่างการนอนตะแคงดูทีวีแล้วสายตาเอียงน่าจะไม่ใช่แน่ เพราะสายตาเอียงเป็นการที่แกนๆนึงเห็นไม่ชัด ลองนึกรูปดอกจัน แล้วมีแค่เส้นๆเดียวของดอกจันที่เรามองไม่ชัด แต่เส้นที่เหลือชัด อันนี้คือสายตาเอียง (เราเพิ่งเข้าใจสายตาเอียงที่เราเป็นเนี่ยแหละ แต่เอียงมากเอียงน้อยหมายความว่ายังไงนี่ยังไม่รู้) เพราะฉะนั้นการที่แกนนั้นจะเห็นไม่ชัดมันไม่เกี่ยวกะการนอนตะแคงแน่ๆน่ะ ส่วนการดูทีวีหรือคอมในที่มืด อาจจะทำให้เพ่งมากจนตาล้าได้เพราะแสงจากรอบๆไม่พอ แต่ก็ไม่ได้บอกเรื่องสายตาสั้นเพิ่มขึ้นอยู่ดี

Myth: คอนแทคเลนส์ใส่นานๆแล้วจะไม่ดี

Truth: ใส่นานๆเป็น 20-30 ปีนี่ยังไม่รู้ แต่ก็เห็นมีคนใส่กันได้อย่างปกติสุข แต่ถ้าใส่เกิน 8 ชม./วัน มันไม่ดี อันนี้ก็รู้มานานแระ แต่ไม่รู้เหตุผล ซึ่งก็คือ คอร์เนีย หรือ กระจกตา ที่คอนแทคเลนส์ไปแปะอยู่จะเริ่มขาดอากาศหายใจ ทำให้เซลล์ชั้นล่างสุดของกระจกตาเริ่มตาย ซึ่งสำคัญมาก เพราะ เซลล์นี้ทำหน้าที่ปั๊มน้ำออกไม่ให้กระจกตาบวม แล้วคงความใสอยู่ได้ (ถ้ากระจกตาบวม ก็ขุ่นสิ แล้วก็เห็นภาพเบลอ) ที่สำคัญกว่านั้น เซลล์นี้ตายแล้วตายเรย ไม่สร้างใหม่ ถ้าปั๊มน้ำไม่พอนานๆ อาจจะต้องเปลี่ยนกระจกตากัน เพราะฉะนั้นอย่าใส่ต่อเนื่องทีนานๆด้วยเหตุผลเช่นนี้แหละ

Myth: คอนแทคเลนส์ที่มีน้ำเป็นส่วนผสมมาก ทำให้ตาไม่แห้ง

Truth: ผิดเรยยยยย หนูโดนคนขายตามร้านหลอกมาตั้งนาน เลือกซื้อแต่น้ำเยอะมาตลอดทั้งๆที่เป็นคนตาแห้ง จนปริ้นเพิ่งให้ความกระจ่างว่า คอนแทคเลนส์ที่บอกว่ามีน้ำเป็นส่วนผสมเยอะก็จะดูดน้ำไว้กะตัวมันเยอะด้วย ทำให้ตาเราแห้งแทน กรี๊ซซซซซ

Myth: เลสิคทำให้ตาแห้ง

Truth: เคยได้ยินมานาน แอบไม่เชื่อมากกว่า แต่หลังจากอาจารย์อธิบายก็ต้องเชื่อละ คือวิธีการทำเลสิค ไม่ว่าจะเทคโนโลยีไฮโซแค่ไหน (ณ วันนี้) ก็ต้องฝานกระจกตาออกเป็นแผ่นบางๆ แต่ฝานไม่ขาดนะ เพราะหลังจากนั้นจะยิงเลเซอร์เข้าไปให้กระจกตาที่เหลืออยู่บางลง แล้วก็แปะกระจกตาที่ฝานนี่กลับเข้าไปใหม่ แต่การฝานเนี่ย หมายความว่า nerve หรือ เส้นประสาทเป็นล้านเส้น​ (อันนี้หนูเมคให้เว่อร์เอง) โดนตัดขาดไม่เหลือ หลังจากแปะกลับไปแล้วก็ต่อกลับได้ไม่หมดหรอก เส้นประสาทขาดแล้วไงล่ะ โดยปกติแล้วพอมีการระคายเคืองนิดๆหน่อยๆจากเส้นประสาทที่นี่แหละ ตาก็จะกระตุ้นให้มีการสร้างน้ำตา ตาก็ไม่แห้ง พอเส้นประสาทขาด การกระตุ้นก็หายไป น้ำตาก็นานๆสร้างทีเวลาเคืองจิงจัง น้ำตาโดยปกติก็เลยจะน้อย คนตาแห้งอย่างเราก็เลยตัดสินใจไม่ทำเลสิคแน่นอน

Myth: soft contact lens ดีกว่า hard contact lens

Truth: ซอฟท์ดีกว่าในแง่ใส่สบาย พวกน้ำเยอะๆเนี่ยจะทำให้ใส่สบายมากขึ้น (แต่ไม่ใช่สำหรับคนตาแห้งนะ) มีหลายเวอชั่นอย่าง 1-day ก็โยนทิ้งได้เรย ทำให้ไม่ต้องดูแลมาก แล้วเดี๋ยวนี้มีสำหรับแก้สายตาเอียงแล้วด้วย ยิ่งไม่ต้องไปง้อแบบฮาร์ดเรย แต่ข้อเสียคือ เสี่ยงต่อการติดเชื้อเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะน้ำเยอะ ออกซิเจนดี นี่แหละ เลยเป็นข้อห้ามไม่ให้ใส่คอนแทคแล้วลงไปว่ายน้ำ เพราะจะได้เชื้อกลับมามากมาย ถ้าจะใส่ก็ควรเป็น 1-day ใส่ว่ายเสร็จปุ๊บทิ้งเรย ยิ่งเรซซิเด๊ยหรืออาจารย์อายส่วนใหญ่จะเห็นใส่แว่นกันเป็นแถบ เพราะพารานอยด์จากทั้งคอนแทคและเลสิค

แล้วทำไมเราถึงกระแดะอยากใส่ฮาร์ด ก็เราใส่ซอฟท์แล้วไม่สบายตาใดๆ (ถึงแม้จะใส่มานานแล้ว) คงเพราะสาเหตุว่าตาแห้งด้วย ในขณะที่ฮาร์ดจะไม่มีปัญหาเรื่องตาแห้ง เพราะมันเป็นของแข็งที่ไม่ต้องการดูดน้ำเก็บไว้กับตัว เรามีสายตาเอียงด้วยก็จะได้แก้เอียงไปในตัว เรื่องติดเชื้อก็ไม่ต้องกัว เพราะไม่มีอะไรให้เชื้ออยากอยู่ แต่ข้อเสีย คือ เราจะต้องทนน้ำตาไหลพรากไปประมาณ 2 อาทิตย์ในการใส่ให้ชิน มันเคืองมากอ่ะ แล้วพอชินแล้ว แล้วอยู่ดีๆเลิกใส่มัน ก็ต้องกลับไปนับหนึ่งใหม่ คือไปเคืองใหม่อีก 2 อาทิตย์ แล้วที่กัวอีกอย่างคือ มันมีแต่รายปี ถ้าทำหล่นหายหรือทำแตก คือ ต้องไปสั่งตัดใหม่ ถ้ามันหายหลังจากใช้ไปซักปีก็โอ แต่ถ้าหายหลังจากสองวัน คงเหมือนทำเงินหล่นไปสี่พัน (ข้างละ 2000) ซึ่งหนูยังไม่ได้ใส่หรอก ไปตัดมาที่คลินิคคอนแทคเลนส์ของซีรี่กะอาจีนเมื่อสองอาทิตย์ก่อน พรุ่งนี้จะไปเอาแระ ต้องมาฝึกวิธีใส่และเอาออกใหม่ ซึ่งไม่เหมือนแบบซอฟท์ หลังจากนั้นก็คงน้ำตาไหลพรากกกก

Q: จำเป็นต้องใช้น้ำตาเทียมแบบรายวันมั้ย

A: เอิ่ม มันแพงกว่าแบบที่ให้เก็บใช้ได้เดือนนึงน่ะ แต่แบบขวดซึ่งใช้ได้ 1 เดือนจะผสมสารกันเสีย แต่ก่อนเราก็ไม่คิดอะไรมาก แต่ตอนนี้คิดแล้ว เพราะอาจารย์บอกว่ามันไม่ดีต่อตาน่ะสิ (แต่จำไม่ได้แล้วว่าไม่ดียังไง) ยิ่งคนตาแห้งแล้วหยอดตา prn (หยอดทุกเมื่อที่ต้องการ) ก็เหมือนยิ่งสะสมสารกันเสียเข้าไปเรื่อยๆ เพราะฉะนั้นถ้าหยอดวันนึง 3-4 ครั้งก็ไม่เป็นไร แต่ถ้าหยอดทุกชม. แนะนำว่าให้ใช้แบบที่ไม่ผสมสารกันเสียจะดีกว่า ซึ่งจะต้องทิ้งใน 24 ชม. ไม่งั้นเดี๋ยวแบคทีเรียมา

CBS (NYSE:CBS) and Sirius XM (NYSE:SIRI) pose the greatest investment risks among media companies based on a forensic measure of their transparency and the statistical reliability of their financial reporting and governance practices, according to new data from Audit Integrity. The probability for bankruptcy for Sirius is 8.5% and 4.6% for CBS. Both numbers are remarkably low, but still high for major US companies. Audit Integrity’s bankruptcy model achieved 90.9% accuracy in 2008 and 93.8% in 2009.

The safest companies for investors, based on the same measurement are Disney (NYSE:DIS) and  DirecTV (NYSE:DTV). The rest of the firms in the analysis are Time Warner (NYSE:TWX), Viacom (NYSE:VIA), Comcast (NYSE:CMCSA), Cablevision, (NYSE:CVC), GE (NYSE:GE), and Time Warner Cable (NYSE:TWC).

The Audit integrity analysis.

SIRIUS XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced that Gary Parsons has resigned as Chairman of the Board of Directors. The satellite radio giant has appointed Eddy Hartenstein, an independent director, to serve as non-executive chairman.  An excerpt from Parsons’ farewell note was:

• “… we have begun to generate positive cash flow and have substantially improved our financial condition. While challenges remain, I’m confident that under the direction of Mel Karmazin and with the assistance of Eddy Hartenstein, SIRIUS XM will continue to grow and flourish.”

The sad thing is that Parsons was effectively forgotten about by most in the public.  He was the founder and chairman of XM Satellite Radio before SIRIUS and XM merged.

Frankly, it does not seem that anyone cares.  Karmazin and his team are in.  Shares closed up 4.7% at $0.66 today and shares are up 1% in the after-hours session.

SIRIUS XM Radio Inc. (NASDAQ: SIRI) has been reaffirmed on its corporate debt rating at “B-” late in the day.  While this is still very deep in “junk bond” territory at S&P, the outlook has been revised to positive from stable.  This is after the earnings that we called mostly headed in the right direction last week, but it follows a relatively recent mid-August upgrade by S&P and it is fairly rare to see another call this fast on a controversial stock (and company) like Sirius.  Still, there are some mixed notions in the call as the rating is so far from investment grade status.

The call was based upon EBITDA generation and discretionary cash flow improving on operating synergies and integration cost savings.  The call also reflects prospects for continued improvement in operating performance and declining debt leverage.  While that is not a promise of a further upgrade, it leaves a hint or review for more ahead.

The rating does reflect a high debt leverage and its dependence on weak U.S. auto sales, and modest discretionary cash flow.  Its status as the only satellite radio player and ongoing synergies and cost savings are modest positives, but S&P’s Hal Diamond noted that those strengths do not offset the risks in its “B-” rating.

Sirius XM Radio has a total debt level as of September 30 of $3.4 billion.  Shares closed up 1.6% at $0.63 today, but on very light trading volume.

Helen pushed a few buttons, straightened up, brushed her fringe from her face and then started as she realised she was being watched.  “Siri!  Welcome … coffee?”  Scar just nodded and followed Helen to a booth.  Helen leaned forward, both hands cupped gently around the coffee mug and her knee touching Scar’s, but only just.    “It’s safe to talk here right now, it isn’t always,” said Helen and Scar breathed a sigh of relief.  “Helen …” she began, but Helen interrupted, “I’ve made certain compromises – many compromises, to be a part of Plan Q.  I won’t deny what I feel for you, but there’s too much at stake to be selfish.”

Holy electronic creeping jezuz, thought Scar, it could take forever.  She met Helen’s gaze and said, “You know what?  It’s all about choices and I respect yours.  OK I’m faking it, I got that bullshit from a fortune cookie, but I will fake-respect it anyway.”  Helen stared harder.  Scar continued, “No really, you gotta do what you gotta do and so do I.  We’re not kids anymore, Helen.”  Helen was starting to look decidedly nervous, “Scar, if you’re not 100% behind Plan Q, you’re a risk,” she said.  Scar rolled her eyes, “Yeah … whatcha gonna do?  Kill me?  Go right ahead, doll.”  The pressure on her knee increased as Helen replied, “I’m stuck right between the devil and the deep blue sea here, Scar.”  Scar raised her eyebrows, stood and turned away.  Then she stopped and said, “Let me know when you’ve worked out which one of those I am.”

As she left the coffee shop, Scar cursed herself soundly.  Did she have to let that pompous fucking dykely brain-buzz of hers get in the way every single time?

Infiltration, thought Scar, is crap.  We get treated like dirt and moved to the Queer Quarter.  Can’t have this job, can’t go into that shop, gotta wear the pink triangle.  No votes, no benefits, no … no structure.  So along came Plan Q to usher the Queers silently and secretly out of the Quarter and back into the mainstream, to live fake-Hetero lives.  A closet, in other words.

They’d dealt with family issues back at the clinic by trying to get patients to contact their families, to reconnect.  Siri had no family – not in the standard Queer my-family-doesn’t-understand kind of way either.  She’d lost her parents in a waterway blowout when she was ten and her little sister too.  Nina …

Scar reeled away from the screen, sweating like a scared horse and breathing about as hard.  She drove her knuckles into her eyes.  It was impossible.  It was a scam.  It was … what the fuck was it?

This morning over breakfast, my girlfriend fixed me with one of her very special looks and said, “You know it’s going to get boring, right?  At some point it’s going to become a grind and you’re going to keep writing, right?”  I said I thought that offering me new and curious sex as an incentive might work and she agreed, on the basis that it’d be a community service.  Mind you, she’s grown a tad taciturn since I started quoting her verbatim here.

Feeling as if her head was a thousand miles from her feet, Scar bailed out of her chair and went to find a nice, reassuring pill.  Anna’s aesthetics, sweetie darling … and so she slept, better than babies ever do and the next day, she took her woolly head off to work.

She’d been picked for a promotion, her intense connection to colour sent her straight to Intermode Node Control, where she sat in a green glow with a bunch of geeks and made sure that shuttles and airway and waterway connected, that the signals timed in perfectly, that the dance went on smoothly for all of the drones out there in Generika City.  She celebrated by blowing her paycheque on a re-engineered stingray leather jacket.  She paced past the doorway of java Divers about 25 times without going in.  She ate a McJunk burger and went home.

The main screenfeed pulsed gently on the wall in time to someone’s heartbeat, but not Scar’s – she wasn’t sure she even had one any more.  Behind the screen, Nina or at least, the idea of Nina and a million memories of Nina.  Sweet, scatty little Nina, with the Jurassic Atari collection and refusal to wear any colour but green.  She’d have been 30 now, if she’d … fuck it.  Scar logged on again.

Scar strutted into JD after work the next day with a whole new air of confidence she attributed directly to her stingray leather jacket.  Spending that kind of money on skin added to your height, no doubt.  “My that’s a rather dykey walk!” said Helen, “I think I like it.”

“It’s the tech,” said Scar, rolling up her overall sleeves and grabbing yet another mug of house blend.”  Helen looked mystified.  “I worked it out this morning.  The way to power is not conforming, it’s independence.  We’ve tried fitting in and it hasn’t worked since ancient Greece; you and I don’t have time to wait for another civilisation to fall, we have to do whatever the hell we can with now.”  Helen listened and as she listened, her knee began to touch Scar’s again.  “We sit there out in the Quarter, bitching because the Hets get all the cool screens and feeds and shit and meanwhile, those are just doorways to the real thing, to the net, to freedom and power.  We bust our asses scoring obsolete crap and then we’re limited to what we can access, because – we don’t have any servers!”  Helen was nodding now, “We need a fucking network!”

Helen sat back and stared at Scar.  “I’m in,” she said.  “Trust?” asked Scar and Helen replied, “ALT236”

Somehow a great ass looks even better when it’s on a geek, don’t you think?  ALT236 is, of course, the keyboard shortcut for the infinity symbol.

Fazer seu próprio almoço não é fácil, todo estudante universitário que mora longe de casa sabe disso. Complica ainda mais quando você quer assar pizza no forno da faculdade em pleno meio dia cuiabano, e com aquele carvão do Vandsu que parece mais pedra do que carvão: não acende de jeito maneira.

Lá estava eu suando feito um porco, parecia que tinha acabado de sair do banho sem me secar, tentando de todo o jeito fazer brotar um foguinho daquele monte de pedra preta. Eu enrolava um jornal, ateava fogo e esperava que a luz chegasse àquele lugar esquecido por Deus.

Enquanto arrumava os jornais antigos pra alimentar o fogo, parava pra ler as notícias mais chamativas. Nada de mais, até que uma me chamou a atenção, entre a nota que a Siri do BBB-7 ia posar para a revista playboy e a de um político que tinha roubado não sei quanto, tinha a foto de um cara muito engraçado com os dizeres: Técnico em informática escreve pior começo de livro do mundo.

“A ruindade gramatical e o humor duvidoso de Jim deixaram para trás milhares de concorrentes no Bulwer-Lytton Fiction de 2007, organizado pela Universidade Estadual de San Jose.” dizia o jornal. Esse concurso de bad writing na Califórnia, segundo Sérgio Rodrigues é onde “os participantes inscrevem ‘começos inesquecíveis’ escritos, de propósito, com o maior número possível de clichês literários”. Rasguei aquele pedacinho, coloquei no bolso, e esperei a próxima vez que fosse usar um computador pra pesquisar mais sobre a história.

O site onde são anunciados os ganhadores tem também as regras de como participar. É um site bem mal feito, talvez até para ambientar o lugar. Lá, de primeira mão você já vê a frase que deu origem à competição escrita pelo próprio Bulwer-Lytton em 1830: “Era uma noite escura e tempestuosa (…)”.

“SIRI PARANRENG, NYAWA PA LAO”, demikian sepenggal kalimat dalam bahasa bugis yang artinya kira-kira seperti ini : “Apabila harga diri telah terkoyak, maka nyawa lah bayaran nya”.
Begitu tinggi makna dari siri ini hingga dalam masyarakat bugis, kehilangan harga diri seseorang hanya dapat dikembalikan dengan bayaran nyawa oleh si pihak lawan bahkan yang bersangkutan sekalipun.

Kata siri sendiri dalam bahasa indonesia berarti malu. Namun, dalam masyarakat bugis, apabila seseorang menyisipkan kata “siri” ini dalam kata-kata atau dialog dalam sebuah permasalahan atau percekcokan, maka berhati-hatilah, bisa dipastikan bahwa masalah tersebut adalah masalah serius.

Sebenarnya, adat mempertahankan harga diri bukan hanya didominasi oleh suku bugis saja, tapi semua suku pasti merasa tidak senang apabila hal yang satu ini diinjak-injak.

Tapi, pada kenyataannya, dalam kehidupan masyarakat bugis, adat mempertahankan siri ini betul-betul dijunjung tinggi ketimbang hal-hal yang lain. Sepertinya, hal yang satu ini memang sudah mendarah daging bagi hampir semua suku bugis yang ada di sulawesi selatan khususnya, maupun yang ada diperantauan pada umumnya.

Tak jarang, suku bugis memilih lebih baik mati sekalian di negeri orang, daripada harus pulang ke tanah bugis dengan menanggung malu.

Tanpa memandang rendah suku-suku lainnya, suku bugis ini memang terkenal dari dahulu dengan ikon keberaniannya. Darah panas yang mengalir, membuat tak sembarang orang yang mau bermain-main dengan suku yang satu ini.

Bukan berarti kejam atau bengis, tapi itulah kenyataannya. Namun, dibalik semua itu, suku yang satu ini terkenal dengan kesetiakawannya.
Orang bugis sangat pandai bergaul dengan suku-suku pendatang lainnya, bahkan tak sedikit juga orang bugis yang mau mati demi membela harga diri teman bahkan yang berlainan suku sekalipun akan mereka bela apabila orang tersebut sudah betul-betul ia anggap sebagai saudara. Ini fakta, saya sebagai orang bugis sudah berkali-kali melihat fenomena ini dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Kembali ke adat siri tadi, hal yang satu ini memang sudah tidak bisa dipisahkan dalam kehidupan masyarakat bugis, bahkan sebagian masyarakat bugis sampai sekarang masih mengenal sistim balas dendam (kayak difilm2 aja ea, hehehe..)

Seseorang yang meninggal sebelum sempat membalas atas harga dirinya yang diinjak-injak, wajib dibalaskan oleh keturunannya kemudian.

Namun, fenomena dosa turunan ini sudah tidak begitu kental lagi di tanah bugis, sebab sebagian masyarakat bugis sadar bahwa kebiasaan tersebut bertentangan dengan ajaran agama islam, agama yang paling banyak dianut oleh masyarakat bugis umumnya.

Nah, demikian sedikit penggalan tentang fenomena adat siri dalam kehidupan masyarakat bugis.

Dan karna penulis orang bugis asli, maka postingan ditulis sesuai dengan fakta yang sebenarnya jadi, tak ada yang diplesetin maupun ditambah-tambah.

Trusting analyst estimates on penny stocks and cult stocks is a tricky business.  But SIRIUS XM Radio Inc.(NASDAQ: SIRI) is trading up on heavy volume after its earnings this morning.  The satellite radio monopoly had a 27% revenue gain to $618.7 million, which included some of the XM Radio gains from the merger.  Earnings were a net loss of $149.2 million or -$0.04 EPS, but this included a charge of $138 million.  If you back out the charges and items, SIRIUS managed a non-GAAP $106 million profit vs a non-GAAP loss of $37 million a year ago.  On an EPS basis, that would break-even. The estimates from Thomson Reuters were -$0.02 non-GAAP EPS and $608.7 million in revenue.

The company also listed roughly 18.5 million subscribers, which is up 103,000 sequentially but down 2% from last year.  Subscriber churn rates during the quarter came in at about 2% as well.

Sirius also noted that it expects its adjusted income from operations to show a 20% gain in 2010 after mid to high single-digit revenue growth.  The company expects its free cash flow and its subscriber count to keep growing as well and this year’s adjusted operating income should go above $400 million.

Shares are up almost 8% and at almost $0.66 on right at 3.3 million shares in pre-market trading with 15 minutes until the market opens.  The 52-week high is now only $0.78 from when this stock was on fire in August.

The takeaway here is that the direction is heading the right way.  There are some obvious negatives as you would expect.  So far the winning direction is the stance that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty.

ร้านนี้เครื่องดื่มและเค้กจัส แต่มีพวกลาซานย่า แซนวิช สลัด ซึ่งไม่เคยลอง แต่ก็ไม่ได้คิดว่าจะดีเกินหน้าเกินตา ร้านนี้น่าไปก็ตรงบรรยากาศติดแม่น้ำนี่แหละ หรือถ้าใครไปมิวเซียมสยามแล้วอยากนั่งพักก็แนะนำให้มาร้านนี้ มีแมกกาซีนให้อ่านพอสมควร ที่นั่งก็เยอะใช้ได้ แต่ส่วนใหญ่เป็นโซนเอาท์ดอร์ อนาคตคงไปอีก เพราะทำให้เรานั่งอ่านได้นานดี ก็อิ๊กนอรสชาติกาแฟและการเดินทางเหงื่อท่วม (ขากลับเรายังเดินต่อไปถึงท่าพระจันทร์เรยด้วยซ้ำ)

แนะนำอาหารไพร่ๆแถวนั้น คือ มาม่าขาหมู ขายอยู่ข้างเซเว่นใกล้ๆกัน เด็กพาณิชย์มากินมากมาย (เด็กราชินีบนจะไปกินร้านอาหารติดแอร์แถวนั้นแทน ดูแบ่งเกรดอย่างเห็นได้ชัด) แต่หนูเชื่อเด็กพาณิชย์ค่ะ เคยไปนั่งกินกะอีอีฟมา ก็อรึ่ยส์อยู่ ขาหมูเค็มๆดี

Earnings season may be winding down, but next week still has some very important companies that are economic indicators in and of themselves or are key stocks that have broad customer and investor bases.  Picking only ten companies leaves many key stocks out, but we have some here which will appeal to most investors and traders.  Among next week’s top earnings are Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK), Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE: KFT), MasterCard Incorporated (NYSE: MA), Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO), Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA), QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM),  and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B).

We also have the biggest cult stocks of all with SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) and Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) reporting next week.  We have offered some color on each stock along with chart data where relevant, along with Thomson Reuters consensus estimates.

Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) is on deck for Monday and this will be a key stock to see how it is navigating its past woes and the natural gas market.  Estimates are $0.65 EPS and $1.9 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $0.66 EPS and $2.02 billion in revenue.  September was a stellar month and the stock hit our ‘energy stocks to double target’ and then some.  But then it went higher in October, right before the rug was yanked out from under it.  Shares are now back under $25.00.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) is on deck for Monday.  America’s ONLY car company not under government care has estimates as -$0.13 EPS and $28.2 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are -$0.06 EPS and $28.26 billion in revenue.  There is one thing we are looking at and one thing only.  2010 is expected to be a year of growth with $111.2 billion in revenues AND a PROFIT with $0.11 EPS.  If Mulally can still pull that off, then America owes that man a kiss right on the lips.  Ford shares have been very range-bound of late and have been in a $7.00 (actually more like $6.75) to $7.75 trading band.  We did get a Alan Mulally exclusive interview last month.

Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE: KFT), a DJIA component, is on deck for Tuesday.  Estimates are $0.48 EPS and $10.3 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $0.48 EPS and $11.26 billion in revenue. Kraft has been range-bound between $26 and $28.50 since the start of July and the recent strength only highlights that issue.

MasterCard Incorporated (NYSE: MA) may have already had a bias set by the report this week from Visa Inc. (NYSE: V).  It reports on Tuesday and estimates for the credit card processing giant are $2.92 EPS and $1.34 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $2.56 EPS and $1.29 billion in revenue.  We are not sure about that drop in revenue expected.

Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) may be the tell here for enterprise spending on equipment and cap-ex.  Its earnings are due on Wednesday and estimates are $0.31 EPS and $8.74 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $0.32 EPS and $8.96 billion in revenue.  While there is real damage done on a longer-term uptrend, today’s weakness and recent pullback did damage a near-term uptrend.  It will be interesting to see if Cisco addresses the Tandberg bid of $3.1 billion before or concurrent with earnings.

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA) is also up for earnings on Wednesday and while it has been range-bound this one broke what was acting as near-term support.  A wildcard is if any pending NBC Universal deal with General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) comes into play.  Estimates are $0.25 EPS EPS and $8.85 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $0.27 EPS and $8.99 billion in revenue.

QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) is a favorite for all smartphone investors. Estimates are $0.52 EPS and $2.72 billion in revenues, while next quarter estimates are $0.56 EPS and $2,84 billion in revenue.  The stock has been very weak of late after it petered out and sold off, and if there are any real levels under $40.00 as a key support, then you can count on technicians calling for QUALCOMM to head down to $38 or even lower.  But if there is a surge, then there is $3.00 to $5.00 in upside before any serious chart levels come into play.  QUALCOMM is right around its key 200-day moving average ($41.65 today) and did violate that key moving trend line last week and this week before a pop-up and subsequent sell-off.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B) is a bit of an unknown as it may or may not report next Friday.  We have a suspicion that Mr. Buffett will report but our own telephone call into the company yesterday yielded nothing more from our contact than “call us next week, maybe.”  Estimates are also so sparse here that you better not rely on many other metrics other than what Warren leaves you with and how much the book value has grown. Estimates are ‘roughly’ $1,308.00 EPS. There is an inflection point that appears evident on the chart here for Berkshire, and based on what we are seeing we could easily expect a 5% easy move or an 8% harder move under extremes after the event.  Buffett’s earnings should look great as there were no hurricanes this year.  Unless the market rolls over further, then there should also be a significant boost to its book value.  While we watch Berkshire, we have been of the opinion that its earnings are too convoluted and differ in the reporting of most by enough measure that the real reactions and trends are not really set for a few days after the event.  But that is an opinion, and it is not shared by every Buffett-ite.

Two of the biggest cult stocks of all are also on deck.  Be advised that “consensus estimates” are only rough guides here as these are both low-priced stocks and many of the old analysts that did cover these are no longer following the companies.

SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) is on deck for next Thursday.  The satellite radio monopoly has recovered tenfold from an absolute low and is up almost 300% from the March 9 close that traders use to mark the end of the bearish death spiral we were in. Estimates are -$0.02 EPS and $608.7 million in revenues, while next quarter estimates are -$0.02 EPS and $628.7 million in revenue.  As always, positive cash flow and the comments on the EBITDA will be what many look for.  Frankly, we are not overly trusting of the few estimates out there from Thomson Reuters because the sampling is as small as Berkshire Hathaway’s.

Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) is set to report on early Wednesday morning.  We really only have one estimate and we are not too sure how accurate that is.  About all we can say here is to watch that recent upgrade we had where Citi took its target to $1.50 from $0.50.  Even though this one has pulled back from its iPhone App launch highs above $2.00, this one is up about 300% from the March 9 close that traders use to mark the end of the bearish death spiral we were in.

As a reminder, any of these dates can change and many of the estimates will have changed before the reporting dates as analysts make their last-minute changes to estimates.

Em um restaurante em São Paulo foi encontrado um siri (crustáceo) vivo no banheiro.  Lembrei-me que nos anos 80, quando morava em Recife, fui a um restaurante em Olinda e em um banheiro dei de cara com um enorme escorredor de arroz em cima do vaso sanitário.  Detalhe: O arroz lavado estava ali para secar… Devemos então complementar a placa que convida os clientes a visitar a cozinha e convidá-los também para uma visita ao banheiro, pois pelo visto ele já se tornou parte da cozinha em algumas bocas de porco que insistem em ser conhecidas como restaurantes.

Pois é.. Essa coisa de blog, de internet, de tudo.. é meio que moda né? É febre, é vontade… É como o boom do twitter agora. Daqui um tempo vamos olhar pra trás, e ver como aquilo mofou.. e vamos pensar como é que a gente “gostava” tanto daquilo, escrevia tanto naquilo e compartilhava tanta coisa… é moda, é época.. é sei lá.

E falando em “moda”, ninguém fala de outra coisa, senão o famoso Google Wave. Já lí um comentário no twitter: o wave é como o IRC, só que vazio. e  a “onda”, é você se achar, dizendo que tem um! HUA uA uHA UH A.. É verdade. É sim um irc vazio, ainda não tem nada lá, ninguém compartilha nada, porque você nem tem com quem compartilhar. Na semana passada recebí meu convite, da minha amiga/irmã/parente de POA, Márcia Lima .. rs Mas somente hoje, depois de quase duas semanas, é que outro amigo meu apareceu por lá, pra gente “conversar”. É como um chat, não se iludam e não esperneiem querendo essa parada agora. Quando for tudo integrado, quando tiver mais gente, o email aparecer por lá também, aí então tornará-se-a (que lindo) interessante!

E o final de semana? O final de semana foi mara. Fomos pra BC, na casa da Jan, ainda na sexta-feira à noite. Encontrei Felipe no caminho. No sábado de manhã CEDO ele tinha uma entrevista. Acreditamos que vai dar certo. A resposta já é agora, no próximo sábado.

À tarde fomos passear pelo centro, no shopping. À noite saímos pra jantar com ela, meu cunhado e irmão.. Peixe, bolinho de sirí, coisas deliciosas pra quem gosta de praia , claro! Até caminhamos no sábado, olha só.

No domingo tinha almoço em casa, churrasco e camarão. Voltamos pra casa à tarde, finalzinho da tarde.

Na segunda-feira de feriado fomos às compras com a mama eu e Felipe. Depois fomos almoçar na casa das meninas. Felipe cuidou do strogonoff, as meninas ficaram na batata chips delícia.. e EU ? fiquei comendo, olhando e dando palpite, como sempre…! Ficamos lá o dia inteiro, à tarde passamos a sorveteeee de vários sabores..

Ainda na segunda-feira Felipe ficou por aqui. Foi embora na terça-feira de madrugada ;0)

I’ve known about Polyvore for some time now but have never tried to make my own collage until after I read Anthonia’s Free Fallin’ post. So I thought, what the hell. Let’s do this. Two hours and a pair of strained eyes later, I came up with this creation above.
