Bir çok kişi gibi bende internetin sansürlenmesine sonuna kadar karşıyım. Tamam, bazen bizleri çılgına çeviren hakaret dolu yazılar veya resimler ortaya çıkabiliyor ama bunlara tepki göstermek için site kapatmak kesinlikle çözüm değil. Acaba şuanda kapalı olan youtube.com’a girme yöntemlerini bilmeyen kaç kişi kaldı ülkemizde? Neredeyse interneti kullanan herkes; DNS değiştirerek, Open DNS kullanarak veya çeşitli proxy sitelerini kullanarak, başta youtube olmak üzere bir çok erişim yasağı olan siteye kolaylıkla girebiliyor. Yani site kapatmanın çözüm olmadığını ve sadece kapalı sitelere girme yöntemlerini bilmeyenler için internetin özgürlüğünü kısıtladığını biliyoruz. Chip.com.tr’nin forum bölümünde, internete en çok sansür koyan ülkeler hakkında bir yazı okudum ve bunu sizinle paylaşmak istiyorum.

Çin: Çin Devleti; Great Firewall of China adında bir ağ kullanmakta. Bu ağ ile yasakları korumak için hem Çin’den dış ülkelere, hem de dışardan Çin’e doğru internet akışını kontrol etmek, yasaklanan sitelere erişimi engellemek ve yasak kelimeleri kullanmayı engellemek mümkün. Çin’de dünyaca ünlü arama motoru olan google bile sansürlü olarak kullanılmaktaymış.

İran: Amaçları islami olmayan bütün web sitelerini engellemek ve dünyada internette en fazla sansür koyan ülkeler arasına girmekmiş. (Ne kadar saçma ve komik dimi.)

Suudi Arabistan: İslami olmayan ve yasa dışı olan siteleri kontrol altında tutabilmek için Arabistan’da internet kullanımı, diğer islam ülkelerine göre çok daha sonra başlamış. Şuanda ise oldukça karmaşık bir sistem ile siteler sansürlenmekteymiş.

Birleşik Arap Emirlikleri: Orta doğuda ki ülkeler arasında en fazla internet kullanım oranına sahip olmasına rağmen, uygulamış oldukları sansürleri en iyi şekilde kontrol altında tutabiliyorlarmış.

Küba: Küba’da, ülke yönetimi dışında, halk zaten kendi kendine bile internette erişim yasağı koymuş durumda. Bunun sebebi ise internet sayesinde yasaklı ürünlere ulaşıldığın da uygulanan cezalarmış.

Suriye: Ülke hükümeti, pornografik ve yasa dışı sitelere otomatik olarak sansür uygulandığını iddaa etsede, çok da kaliteli bir engelleme sistemi kullanılmamaktaymış.

Kuzey Kore: Kaynağı yabancı olan ve ülke sınırları dışından gelen internete tamamen yasak koyulmuş durumdaymış.

Yemen: Yemen’de medyanın özgürlüğü bizde ki gibi veya bir çok ülkede ki gibi olmadığı için, internet ortamında da bu özgürlüğün kullanılmasını engellemek için sansürlemeler yapılmaktaymış.

Myanmar: Bu ülkede, insanların özgürlükleri ve hakları oldukça fazla kısıtlandığından dolayı, nüfusun sadece %1′i internet kullanıcısıymış ve onlar da sıkı bir gözetim altındalarmış.

Pakistan: Pakistan’da 2000 yılından beri internette sansür uygulanmaktaymış.

Türkiye: Bu ülkeler arasında ülkemize’de yer vermemek olmazdı sanırım. Son 4-5 yıldır uygulanan yasaklar ile youtube başta olmak üzere bir çok siteye defalarca erişim yasağı getirildi.

Asadar, am ales urmatoarele cuvinte:

Alegerea a fost destul de grea, pentru ca trebuiau niste cuvinte care sa returneze la cautare un numar “decent” de rezultate, acesta permitandu-ne ca in cateva saptamani sa putem aduce site-ul in Topx00, unde x este cifra de la 1-9.

Acum cateva vorbe si despre googleRanking.Am inscris site-ul pe googleAnalytics, asteptam cu nerabdare ca in cateva zile sa va putem impartasi primele rezultate.Ce face googleAnalytics pe scurt?Iti face un raport destul de detaliat la fiecare 24 de ore cu tot ce vrei si ce nu vrei in legatura cu activitatea de pe site-ul tau:numar de vizitatori, pagini vizitate, etc…check it out.

In cateva zile voi reveni cu primele rezultate si cu imagini bineinteles..pana atunci va asteptam pe site…depinde si de dumneavoastra ca el sa fie vizitat de cat mai multi.Va multumim anticipat pentru fiecare vizita pe care o veti face si speram ca nu vom dezamagi.

În seara asta 5 manageri de echipe ne-am strâns pentru a discuta despre tehnologiile folosite de fiecare în cadrul proiectului.

Sesiunea a durat cam 2 ore și fiecare am abordat câte o tehnologie importanta în următoarea ordine:

1) Andrei – JavaScript

• a punctat foarte bine caracteristicile acestui limbaj de scripting client-side
• am discutat apoi despre utilitatea acestui limbaj
• am amintit de Firebug ca si aplicatie pentru debugging-ul codului
• Sergiu a amintit de framework-uri precum JQuery și YUI

2) Eu – PHP (bineînțeles)

• limbaj de scripting server-side
• foarte bine documentat, fiind baza pentru foarte multe site-uri din prezent
• weak typing
• PHP ca limbaj orientat obiect

3) Tibi – AJAX

• Asynchronous JavaScript and XML
• nu este un limbaj propriu-zis, folosind JavaScript pentru partea de codare și XML pentru formatul raspunsurilor. Raspunsurile pot fi și în format JSON sau plain text.
• ne-a dat un exemplu cu o apllicație cu chat și a subliniat importanta metodei asincrone de comunicare

4) Mircea – JavaFX

• RIA (Rich Internet Application)
• http://javafx.com/samples/ – pentru exemple
• un bun inlocuitor pentru Silverlight sau Flash
• foarte bun pentru dezvoltarea unui joc online, browser based

5) Sergiu – CMS-uri (WordPress)

• Content Management Systems
• ”CMS-urile sunt o serie de programe, scrise de obicei într-un limbaj server site(PHP de exemplu dar nu numai) care folosesc HTML, CSS, AJAX și altele pentru a facilita afisarea și editarea de continut într-un mod facil”
• am discutat și despre diferențele dintre CMS-uri și Framework-urile PHP și despre folosire CMS sau scriere cod de la zero.

Coming off the back of an atrocious week of eating, drinking and correspondingly poor results I thought what better time to launch a new fitness site and blog.

Firstly the site – www.activateyourglutes.com. When I got back into fitness and the gym about 9 months ago I went looking for a web site to let me track my programmes, workouts, progress and occasionally nutrition. Over this period I’ve tried a number of them (well known and otherwise) but have yet to really settle on one. Some are pretty, some are social but they all seem to share a common theme of poor usability when entering data: programmes are hard to set up, and daily food diary takes too long to record. Being a developer I’m prone to thinking “I can do better” so thought I’d take a shot.

Now if you’ve got ahead of me and clicked that link above you’ve probably found it goes nowhere, and thats because the site isn’t quite live yet. Bear with me – it will be shortly. The plan is to roll out features in stages with the first thing to appear being body measurement tracking, followed by programmes and workouts, then nutrition and finally the social aspects.

Secondly the fitness – I’m a pretty keen gym guy who generally gets a big kick out of my workouts but my fitness history is what you might call potted. In my teens and early twenties I did a lot of rock climbing and that kept me fit, in my mid twenties I spent too much time behind a keyboard and drinking beer with the inevitable consequences, in my late twenties I joined a gym and by the time I hit 30 was in the best shape of my life – at which point it all went badly wrong: I bought a car and it knocked out all my routines and made me phenomenally lazy. Bad move. Then 9 months ago I got fitted up for a DJ – the numbers read out to me were truly alarming and I resolved to do something about it. I rejoined the gym, sold the car and got back on the pushbike, hired a personal trainer and 9 months and lots of graft later I’m in reasonable and healthy shape.

And thirdly the tech – occasionally, for the geek / fitness crossover crowd (we’re quite large despite the perception that we’re all skinny pale geeks who never leave our keyboards) I’ll post some technical details of how the site is implemented.

Finally – you might be wandering where the name came from. When I first started working out with my trainer a frequent phrase used was to tell me to “activate your glutes”. Made me laugh every time and has stuck with me – though I’d like to think my bottom is no longer sagging.

Ştiți că tot am discutat despre oportunitățile folosirii unui framework sau de a crea un site de la zero.

După cum ați observat am ales cea dea doua variantă, pentru că trebuia să învățăm un framework în timp foarte scurt. Deși CodeIgniter era foarte apropiat de ceea ce ne doream noi,  ne trebuiau câteva zile pentru a înțelege MVC-ul(Model View Controller) asociat.

Oricum, eu unul susțin folosirea framework-urilor PHP, dar în proiecte unde ai timp destul pentru documentarea lor. Dacă nu vă trebuie ceva complicat mai bine folosiți Joomla sau chiar WordPress.

Mai întâi site-ul a fost creat local, unde am folosit pentru APACHE, PHP și MySQL utilitarul WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP), astfel am fost scutiți de a instala cele 3 separat și de modificat fisierele de configurare. Pentru modificari la baza de date am folosit phpmyadmin.

Pe site vor începe să apară articole interesante despre unele dintre aceste tehnologii.

PS: The one thing that keeps us away from growth is when we keep ourselves away from books.  I intently believe in this. And for that reason, I believe books are commodities which have to be available anywhere, anytime. You’d say I should probably talk about Kindle, but I say it’s a different world when you read real books- which flesh,and paper which you touch. And this posts exists to talk about the amazing thought of getting ‘em books available anywhere to anyone.

Once upon a time on this unruly July day, I decided to share and “give”. I’m not much of a gift person to my friends- infact half the time I am late or confused, and most of my presents to date have been hand written letters or postcards. Old fashioned, one may assume. On my “give” day however, I noticed that the recipient was a mere 9000 miles (as per the ticket, I’m still pretty much Kms.) away. Now, that is a lot of away I needed to conquer to give. For once (after a pleasant experience on Amazon UK) I bought a book (that’s all I could think of clearly) and sent my friend a gift- for the first time. We all know it’s a great feeling and blah and blah.

Several moons later, when I had been mesmerized by the discussion of this one playwright, I decided to “give” a book to myself. I was pretty much bummed by the fact that Amazon cleverly had decided not to have an India site- I really want to understand why! – and then I decided to look for Indian book shops- online.

As I put it on Twitter (the question), I got suggested several. And several online book stores started following me immediately. The typical thing I do is to check out the follower, which is how I first saw Le Books. For one, it’s a great looking site- albeit it takes time to load (which I haven’t quite understood the reason for). It ‘looks’ like a book site too. The design, and the colours are book-like, and warm, not stark. And it doesn’t look like a half baked effort, which is what most “online buying” sites- especially Indian look like.

That initial “wow” element was only made better as I was able to select, order and pay for a book all in a matter of 5-10 minutes- which is such a relief. But I guess the best part was I was sent emails immediately afterwards, and kept in the loop till I received my book. The books were especially well packed, and had a delightful bookmark. It immediately appealed to the “I love old books” person in me. Infact, looking at the way the book was sent, I decided my next “give” event, was also going to be through lebooks. I sent in a birthday gift to a friend who’s into books and notes just like me, and once she got the book, I got the loveliest message back. It was a great feeling, I say, oh and blah and blah.

But of course, I also have some recommendations for them- one to increase the books they stock- I have sometimes not found the book I was looking for. And if possible, stock videos too? I find myself itching for some videos and there is no decent place to get them.

You could tell me to get off my backside and go enter a “real” shop, hey but on an everyday basis, cravings for books and the written word happen within office hours, and if I were to have the energy to fight Delhi traffic and then go shop, I’d be superwoman (not that I act like one already ). The convenience of a one stop shop off the net is unparalleled especially when they are good people who write to you diligently, and have all the attention for details.

Oh and if word of mouth publicity does any good, then I strongly recommend this site.

Stii cum se spune, cine se aseamana se aduna. De aceea ajungem la tipare umane si de aceea anticipam si judecam fara sa dam atentie prea multa.

La ultimul loc de munca pe care mi l-am gasit, pentru ca sunt [denumita asa pt ca lumea nu imi retine numele mai niciodata] “fata de la site”, a trebuit sa am o intrevedere cu baiatul de la IT, evidamente.

Baiatul de la IT arata exact asa cum mi-l imaginasem, pentru ca in fiecare departament de IT exista cel putin unul pe acest calapod.

Mi l-am adus aminte si pe baiatul de la IT din NewsIn, care mi se pare ca nu circula cu metroul sau cu RATB-ul pentru ca era atat de slab incat il ducea vantul oriunde. Si pe coordonatorul de la IT de acolo care in ultimele luni petrecute in redactie isi luase un ordin de restrictie pentru mine because I always had smthn to fix.Mi l-am adus aminte si pe baiatul de la IT din prima redactie in care am muncit in anul I de facultate… care indiferent ce il intrebai raspundea : Nu, nu se poate. Nu am timp.

Si toti aveau inca o trasatura in comun, desi biroul lor era la 3 minute distanta…. comunicarea cu ei  se realiza DOAR via e-mail. “Da-mi un mail cu ce problema ai si rezolv eu. Nu, nu mai veni pana aici, e inutil… da-mi un mail”

Am pornit motorul de căutare GooGle, scriu Adriana Săftoiu, și dau click. Curiozitatea mea era să văd cum este afișată Adriana pe paginile electronice și poate găsesc și site-ul ei. L-am găsit.  Dar am rămas surprins să constat că are o pagină electronică f proastă, la cât de deșteaptă este parlamentara și experta în comunicare. M-am prins din start, și am observat că site-ul ei a fost ,,hackerit”, cel puțin așa cred eu.  Au șters din informațiile de bază. Oare să fie hackerii de la SIE, unde a fost director Claudiu Săftoiu or hackerii de la SRI. În fine, dacă accesezi www.adrianasaftoiu.ro,  în meniul de sus ,, Despre mine – Cine sunt”, păi te convingi că Adriana nu este nimeni, pentru că, lipsește informația. La fel, se întâmplă dacă accesezi și blogul Adrianei Săftoiu.

Dar mă întreb cine ar fi avut intenția să-i înghețe blogul. Oare să fie o intenție a celor din servicii pentru faptul că Adriana la părăsit pe marinarul Băsescu. Nu prea cred !

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the blessings that we have.  Even if you don’t have much, its still worth being thankful for. This is one of my favorite quotes for Thanksgiving:

“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.”  ~E.P. Powell

This means that if you just eat turkey, your not really taking the message of thanksgiving. It is a time of prayer and thanks and you should take it very seriously. If there’s one thing that you do on thanksgiving, and if nothing else. No matter what religon you are, sit down and pray to God and be thankful.

I have exams the second week of December and I probably won’t have time to post until then. The week after that is winter break, and I’m going on vacation, which means I may not get a chance to post until January.

I know. It sucks, because all the good music is coming out right now. I’ll try to review some albums right after I get back, but I hate reviewing stuff after everyone’s already reviewed it.

The good news is that I have the whole of this week off!

So I’ll try to post a lot this week!

I’m thinking about doing a “state of the web” type report for the church at the top of the year.  It would consist of:

1. a review of the site metrics (most hit pages, referrers, etc.)
2. a review of the site with respect to best practices (per something like 70+ tips for effective church sites from Internet Evangelism Day)
3. a reflection of the initiatives of the past year
4. an outline of initiatives for the coming year

Does anyone else do something like this for their church?

Microsoft, which seems to always be branching out, started a new website a while ago, called Bing (.com). It’s a search engine, meant to compete with Google.

The surprising thing is that is does a good job, and it may actually be competition for the search giant (which coincidentally is also branching out a fair bit). The home page is a clever, more involved and colourful version of the Google one, but keeps the simplicity. It’ll display a photo in the background, with little links and facts you can click on, but which hide unless you mouse over them. The Web search is very similar, but displays a preview if you mouse over the side of a result. The images search is nice in that it doesn’t display all the somewhat useless information until you mouse over it. They also give more options for image selection, in terms of size, colour, and content.

Possibly the most interesting news is that Bing added a new search feature for videos. You can search videos with ease, and they’re displayed like the images. The cool part is that it displays the length, upload date, and source, without you having to do anything, AND lets you preview it just by mousing over it. Not only that, but you can filter by length, size, resolution, source, and screen type.

The rest is much like all search engines, setting aside perhaps the “News” category, which will find only news results (quite handy actually).

Whether or not you believe that Microsoft is a greedy corporation stealing everyone’s ideas, you should definitely check out Bing. It may not be a brand new idea, but they have used some ingenuity this time and Bing is definitely a contender for favourite search engine, at least for me. Coupled with Windows 7, which is said to be much better than Vista and quite user-friendly, is this the future of Microsoft. if it is, I like it.

Inca nu suntem pregatiti de lansarea oficiala a site-ului, dar ne indreptam cu pasi increzatori in directia asta.

A trecut ceva timp de cand n-am mai postat….am fost ocupati cu un pic de C3 + IOC + viata…dar iata ca revenim in forta cu o prima varianta a site-ului.

Intre timp ne-am schimbat si hostul. (Multumim Marius! )

Cum toti suntem  niste adevarati “maestri’ in ale plasmuirii unui website am zis sa incepem cu pasi mici…adica sa dam un search pe gugal . So de-aici pana la a cauta mai departe un template pe care sa-l folosim a fost o nimica toata. Am gasit destul de repede ceva dragut si potrivit pentru tematica site-ului asa ca l-am downloadat repede si am inceput sa-l modific. Varianta care este momentan pe site este mai mult opera lui Marius care s-a dovedit a avea mai mult simt estetic si rabdare in a aranja elementele in pagina decat mine.

Ceva de care sunt multumita este ca am reusit sa atasez si un forum site-ului. Ramasese cam in aer ideea de a avea un forum pentru ca parea mai greu de integrat pe hostul actual. Dar cum se stie..aparentele inseala. Site-ul acesta ofera o solutie destul de rapida si straight-forward de instalare a unui forum. Nu am apucat inca sa ma joc foarte mult cu interfata de administrare dar din ce-am vazut poti face multe chestii simpatice cu ea. (prin ea ma refer la interfata evident )

Despre baza de date o sa va spuna mai multe Diana tinand cont ca ea este the brain din spatele acestei componente esentiale pentru sistem.

Well…ca sa nu o mai lungesc prea mult ca e tarziu si e sambata seara si eu postez pe blog la  IOC…aruncati o privire pe site…faceti-va cont pe forum…si incepeti sa discutati despre filme! Promitem ca in curand va fi si site-ul , daca nu 100% functional..macar un 95% tot promitem sa facem.
