Sitecom WL-341 300N X2

La nuova linea ADSL aziendale per casa è fornita da Fastweb. Non posso lamentarmi delle prestazioni che Speedtest.net quantifica in un apprezzabile 10.5Mbit/s in download e uno 0.87Mbit/s in upload.

Il modem di Fastweb ha il wireless integrato (configurabile dalla propria home page nell’Area Clienti del sito) e assegna un massimo di 4 indirizzi IP alla vostra rete locale. Il giorno in cui erano collegati a internet entrambi i PC di casa, una virtual machine, il cellulare per il broadcasting live di Qik e l’iPod Touch il router ha cominciato a singhiozzare e a dare errori di indirizzi IP duplicati sulla rete. Tra l’altro il wireless di Fastweb non è il massimo per stabilità e propagazione del segnale.

Per ovviare al problema ho deciso di dotarmi di un router ADSL con opzione wireless e la mia scelta è caduta sul piccolo Sitecom WL-341 300N X2.

Il router funge da DHCP server e dispensa tutti gli indirizzi IP che servono alla vostra rete locale.

Questo giocattolino dispone inoltre di una funzione utilissima: il DHCP statico, ossia la possibilità di assegnare a uno specifico host della rete sempre lo stesso indirizzo IP, cosa che ho sfruttato per la stampante/fax/scanner di casa HP Officejet 6310. In questo modo abbiamo eliminato la scomodissima connessione USB che si inceppava continuamente su uno dei laptop e possiamo ora stampare o scansionare allegramente via cavo o wireless.

La configurazione del router è molto semplice e avviene tramite browser, senza necessità di assegnare indirizzi temporanei al PC da cui la effettuate: puntate su http://192.168.0.1 , inserite username e password e il gioco è fatto.

Il wifi supporta le modalità 802.11 B/G/N. L’unico dispositivo che era in grado di collegarsi al router con qualunque modalità è l’iPod Touch, non il laptop Dell né il cellulare Nokia E65. Dopo aver impostato la modalità B+G tutto è filato liscio.

L’autenticazione supporta WEP, WPA-TKIP, WPA-AES e Mixed (scelta AES altrimenti non c’era verso di autenticarsi dal Nokia). Disponibile ovviamente anche il filtro all’accesso basato su indirizzo MAC e un firewall integrato.

Possibile anche programmare lo spegnimento e l’accensione automatici giornalieri del dispositivo.

La potenza del segnale è buona in tutta la casa (100mq su un piano).

Insomma, un bel prodotto con un ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo (49 EUR)

Vediamo come fare funzionare questa chiavetta con Ubuntu.Questa guida è stata testata su Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04,Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 e Debian Lenny.

Il chipset inserito all’interno di questa chiavetta è un Ralink RT2070,ma ho utilizzato i driver per il chipset RT3070.

Si pressupone che i build e gli headers siano già installati.Se così non fosse  basta digitare:

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-versione del kernel in uso

Se non si conosce la versione del kernel basta digitare:

uname -r

Il risultato sarà simile a questo

Vediamo i passi da eseguire per installare questo adattatore.

• Scaricare i sorgenti dei driver.Per scaricarli clicca qui
• Scompattare il file in una cartella
• Dobbiamo modificare i file config.mk e usb_main_dev.c contenuti all’interno della cartella /os/linux/
• Nel file config.mk , bisogna intercettare le due righe HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=n e HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=n e sostituire “n” con “y”
• Adesso modifichiamo il file usb_main_dev.c .In questo file bisogna intercettare la riga aggiungere questa riga

  e aggiungere sotto di essa questa

• Adesso dobbiamo caricare il modulo nel kernel.Per caricarlo all’avvio,basta aggiungere la riga rt3070sta nel file /etc/modules. Per fare questo basta digitare:
  

  sudo gedit /etc/modules

  aggiungere la riga rt3070sta.Salvare e riavviare.

Ciao a tutti, come Ciccio mi faceva notare, nell’articolo che riguarda la cache DNS, il ruoter che utilizziamo presenta una grave carenza in termini di configurabilità, infatti non è possibile settare i DNS che verranno utilizzati durante la connessione, in quanto esso utilizza automaticamente i DNS forniti dal nostro ISP. Si potrebbe discutere intere giornate sul perchè questo fatto è molto problematico, io dico solo 2 parole, VELOCITA’ e LIBERTA’. Il problema in realtà si può aggirare semplicemente disabilitando il servizio DHCP e settando manualmente i propri IP, infatti così facendo, si è costretti a settare i DNS nel proprio sistema e quindi ad utilizzare quelli che vogliamo. Comunque non volendo lasciar perdere la cosa, ho deciso di mandare una segnalazione all’assistenza della Sitecom per segnalare la carenza del dispositivo.Vi riporto sotto il testo:

Vorrei segnalarvi una mancanza nel dispositivo, infatti utilizzando il servizio DHCP non è possibile settare i dns da utilizzare durante la connessione, in quanto il router utilizza automaticamente quelli predefiniti del ISP. Questo ovviamente limita la configurabilità del dispositivo. Spero che nelle prossime versioni del firmware implementerete questa feature

Invito tutti i possessori di questo modello di Router di ripetere la segnalazione, con il fine finalmente di riuscire ad avere anche sul nostro apparecchio la possibilità di risolvere gli indirizzi web come meglio ci garba

Oggi 06/11/09 ho ricevuto la risposta dalla sitecom italia in cui mi assicurano che la mia richiesta verrà inoltrata ai loro tecnici per implementare questa funzionalità… ovviamente staremo a vedere. Mi raccomando se avete un router wl-322 fatevi sentire

Un saluto

Van het weekend heb ik een groot deel van het weekend zonder internet gezeten. Eerst omdat ik gewoon niet thuis was en toen ik het wel was, mijn ADSL-modem uit was en met geen mogelijk meer te overtuigen was dat hij weer aan moest. Nu komt het altijd slecht uit als er iets kapot gaat, maar nu in het bijzonder omdat ik van plan ben binnenkort over te stappen op een glasvezelaansluiting. Plus dat in het weekend na 18:00 zaterdag de meeste winkels toch echt dicht zijn. Na me wat georienteerd te hebben op pricewatch van tweakers.net kwam ik al snel uit bij een modem van Sitecom. Dit qua prijsstelling maar ook vanuit het gegeven dat ze in de meeste winkels wel op voorraad zijn.

Vervolgens kom je op het punt wat koop je? Alleen een modem? Dan moet ik er een nieuwe netwerkhub/switch erbij kopen met weer een stekker erbij want mijn huidige modem heeft 4 netwerkaansluitingen. Aan de andere kant, als ik op glasvezel over ga doe ik niets meer met het modemdeel. Maar voor twee tientjes meer heb je en 4 netwerkaansluitingen en Wifi. Dat laatste wil ik al wat langer omdat mijn huidige accesspoint alleen WPA kent en geen WPA2 wat toch weer iets beter is. Plus dat ik dan maar één stekker nodig heb voor mijn modem, mijn hub en mijn accesspunt.

Het is uiteindelijk een Sitecom WL-606 geworden. Erg gemakkelijke installatie, vrijwel alle providers zijn voorgeprogrammeerd. Het  is een kwestie van even aanklikken en klaar is kees. Enige minpuntje is dat het wireless accesspointdeel standaard aanstaat en de versleuteling standaard uit. Verder vind ik het niet slim, maar goed dat geldt voor bijna alle accesspoints, dat ze standaard hun eigen naam in de SSID zetten. Als iemand een hack heeft voor een bepaald type accesspoint hoeven ze alleen maar te kijken welke er in hun buurt zitten. 

Wel verstandig is dat UPnP standaard uitstaat omdat daar nogal wat hacks voor zijn. En echt nodig is het ook niet omdat je via de webbrowser alles al kunt instellen. Zaken als instellen van de firewall en zelfs een DMZ zijn allemaal aanwezig. Kortom, ik ben er wel tevreden over. Volgens de definitie van Wikipedia is overigens de DMZ van de Sitecom niet een echte DMZ. Maar het aantal particulieren dat meer dan één server aan het internet wil hangen is redelijk beperkt dus de functionaliteit is, wat mij betreft, categorie goed genoeg.

Wat een onding die Livebox van Wanadoo, sorry Orange, sorry Online. Minimaal vijf keer per week moest ik er de spanning af halen omdat hij weer eens hing. Maar het was het enige apparaat waarmee ik via Wanadoo, Orange, Online kon telefoneren. Maar ook daarmee was het geen halleluja; meestal, als de telefoon ging, hoorde ik de beller niet en de beller hoorde mij niet. Genoeg ergernis om dat ding af te danken.

Er op uit om zelf een ADSL modem te kopen. De eerste winkel die ik binnenliep had een Sitecom DC223 ADSL modem voor nog geen 25 Euro! Daar kan je dus geen buil aan vallen. Snel naar huis. De Livebox ADSL telefoonkabel en de Ethernetkabel naar mijn Airport Router losgekoppeld.

Om niet te veel overhoop te gooien heb ik eerst de modem met een Ethernetkabel rechtstreeks aan mijn iMac aangesloten en uiteraard ook de ADSL kabel naar het grote wijde Web.

Probleem1: Ik maak gebruik van het 192,168.1.x subnet voor mijn apparatuur. De modem staat volgens de documentatie op 10.0.0.x. Die kon ik dus niet benaderen. Snel in Systeemvoorkeuren / Netwerk / Ingebouwd Ethernet Configureer op handmatig gezet, bij IP adres het adres van de Sitecom modem (10.0.0.1) en hetzelfde adres bij de router ingevuld. Daarna klikken op Pas Toe (Schrijf vooraf even de bestannde instellingen op!)

Firefox opstarten (Safari werkt niet!) en in de adresbalk het adres van de Sitecom modem intikken (10.0.0.1). Ja daar verscheen de ingebouwde server van het modem. Klikken op de Wizzard, het land kiezen en je serviceprovider uit het lijstje kiezen (Online stond er niet bij, gelukkig wel een van de voorgangers: Wannadoo). Na de configuratie een minuutje wachten en een website kiezen. JAAA, alles werkte.Het enige wat me nog te doen stond was het IP adres veranderen van 10.0.0.1 naar 192.168.1.1. en in mijn geval de DHCP server uitzetten (maar dat ligt natuurlijk aan de situatie an je eigen netwerk).

Niet vergeten de oude instellingen van Ethernet op de iMac te herstellen en de Ethernetkabels weer in de goede poorten te stoppen..

Omdat de instellingen van de Sitecom identiek gemaakt zijn aan de instellingen van de Livebox hoefde ik verder niets meer in mijn netwerk te veranderen.

Update: Het Sitecom modempje werd erg warm. Nadat ik het op de aluminium voet van mijn iMac had gelegd werd de temperatuur normaal. En de snelheid is zelfs iets hoger dan die van de LiveBox. En als iemand me wil bellen, dat moet nu voortaan naar mijn mobieltje.

…..un sistema operativo che necessita di una connessione internet per scaricare i vari aggiornamenti, programmi, plugin…..e di tutto di più, non ha ancora i driver necessari per far funzionare gli adattatori USB – Wi-fi?
Io ho installato Ubuntu 5.10 su un Pentium 3 450Mhz da poter riutilizzare ma non riesco a far funzionare l’adattatore nella foto…ho provate tutte le distribuzioni possibili ma non riesco! Devo tornare a Win ‘98? Perchè anche con Xp risulta un pò lento!

Questa procedura descrive i passi operativi per poter installare correttamente la scheda di rete wireless Sitecom WL-120 V2 su Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.

Occorrente

Ci servono i driver per Windows Vista.In base al MAC ADDRESS ci sono due versioni di driver.Il MAC ADDRESS è indicato sotto la scheda di rete.

Se il vostro MAC ADDRESS inizia per 000C84-xxxxxx i driver da scaricare sono questi

Se il vostro MAC ADDRESS inizia per 000CF6-xxxxxx i driver da scaricare sono questi

A questo punto scompattateli in una cartella dellla vostra home.

A questo punto bisogna installare le utility ndiswrapper sul nostro PC.Tali utility sono presenti nei repository ufficiali di Ubuntu.Quinidi se si può connettere il PC mediante una connessione alternativa (es Cavo di rete) da terminale digitare:

sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common ndiswrapper-utils-1.9

Se si devono scaricare i pacchetti da un altro PC o sistema operativo,si possono scaricare da:

Installazione dei driver

A questo punto installiamo i driver.

LA PROCEDURA SEGUENTE È STATA FATTA CON I DRIVER PER LA SCHEDA DI RETE CON MAC INIZIA PER 000C84-xxxxxx.Per gli altri driver bisogna solo sostituire il riferimento al file .inf

Creare una cartella all’interno della home

mkdir ~/driver

e copiarci all’interno i driver.

Adesso si devono installare i driver

sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/driver/nomedriver.inf

sostituire nomedriver.inf con il nome reale del driver (nel caso di schede con MAC ADDRESS 000C84 il nome del file è PRISMA00.inf .Se il MAC ADDRESS inizia per 000CF6 il nome del file è wlanCIG.inf)

Adesso dobbiamo caricare il modulo ndiswrapper nel sistema.Digitiamo i seguenti comandi

sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

Nel sistema dovrebbe apparire una nuova interfaccia di rete chiamata wlan0

Per verificare basta digitare da terminale

iwconfig

Per la configurazione dell’interffaccia di rete vi rimando alla wiki ufficiale di Ubuntu http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/Hardware/DispositiviSenzaFili/GuidaWiFi?action=show&redirect=Hardware%2FDispositiviSenzaFili%2FWiFiHowTo

Abbiamo quasi finito!!!!

Non ci resta che caricare il modulo ndiswrapper all’avvio.

Da terminale digitare:

sudo ndiswrapper -m

e bisogna aggiungerlo nel file /etc/modules

sudo gedit /etc/modules

e aggiungere alla fine del file la riga

ndiswrapper

FINITO!!!!
Adesso abbiamo la nostra bella scheda di rete Wireless funzionante su Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.

The barriers to entry that GTW has created are very restrictive i would say. This is bescause GTW has set the boundary line in this category as it was first into this market in northern ireland and ireland in 2003, therefore it had the first mover advantage.GTW currently has currently 19 stores spread across northern ireland and ireland.Bescause of GTW’s vast reach across this area if a competitor was to set up a similar couple of stores offering exactly the same service as GTW is offering then i would say that users would be inclined to stay with GTW bescause of two main factors:
1.) Accessibility of its stores (i.e do you live with in 20 miles of one?)

2.) Its an estlished/well known brand name in the gaming community in northern ireland /ireland.

Therefore unless the new competitiors had a product in which they could
differentiate themseleves from GTW then they would be able to win customers over.

The intensity of competitive rivalry

In the market of Multi-Player e-Sports in northern ireland and ireland you have to have the hightest specification computers currently available to you.Failure to do this upon entering this market would result in the customers staying at the current competitors store and you going out of bussiness very quickly as the customers know they can get a better experience else where.

Gametheworld is currently sponsored by 5 main gaming companies.(These are called speedlink ,razor ,nova sitecom and speedlink) These companies specliase in the creation of gaming mouses,mouse pads and wireless routers.Since GTW is quite popular in northern ireland and ireland these companies are using GTW to promote and advertise there products. Therefore in return GTW accquires these products from these companies and is able to attract customers into the store giving these items away free to lucky customers who enter in to there daily competitons (such as the wheel of pwn.)

Ich bin begeistert, was die Ubuntu-Entwickler seit der letzten Version alles verbessert haben. Immer wieder stelle ich große Verbesserungen fest – wie auch die Bluetooth-Unterstützung für mein Nokia E65.

Eben stecke ich den Bluetooth-Stick von Sitecom das erste Mal an und Verbinde mein Nokia E65 via Bluetooth mit meinem Notebook. Und ohne irgendwelche weitere Software zu installieren kann ich das Filesystem des Mobiltelefons durchsuchen.

Noch bei der Version 7.04 musste ich die Obex-Unterstützung von Hand installieren und einrichten.

Wie man sieht kann man das Dateisystem nun in Nautilus bequem durchsuchen.

Auch der Bluetooth-Stick wurde einwandfrei erkannt:

In questi giorni sto uscendo matto dietro al mio router, cercando di migliorare il segnale wifi a casa mia (è su due piani….mura parecchio spesse e adeguata antisismica…con reti metalliche ecc)…….

Innanzitutto ho messo a nudo questo routerino….

(garanzia?? mi fanno una pernacchia se anche solo glielo mostro )

La prima cosa che è balzata ai miei occhi è il modulo wifi… non saldato sulla scheda madre, bensì inserito in uno SLOT MINIPCI (!!! lo stesso dei portatili !!!)

La schedina wifi è una Ralink (in bella vista il chip RT2561T)

Uno dei primi esperimenti che ho fatto è stato sostituire l’antenna (tagliandola

fisicamente) usando una antella per DVB-T tipo questa.

Il segnale era migliorato (non nella potenza, ma nella stabilità)…..

Purtroppo la sfiga ha voluto che mi si è rotta la vite dopo due giorni, e di fatto ho dovuto cercare un sostituto…. una antenna della macchina (!!!!!!)

Segnale decente, ma non abbastanza…

Ho acquistato una antenna apposita da 5 dBi della Sitecom (15 euro )

Ho staccato la staffetta che reggeva la vecchia antenna (garanzia? seeeeee loool) e messo al suo posto questa antenna nuova…. non avendoo un connettore sma a disposizione, per adesso è attaccata con il nastro isolante

Il segnale è decente ma non è migliorato molto….

Ad un tratto ho notato sulla schedina ralink un connettore: AUX

Mi son detto: PERBACCO AUX= AUSILIARIO!!! è predisposto per una seconda antenna!

Ho visto sulla baia dei cavetti che fanno a caso mio: U.LF—->SMA (se date una occhiata alla foto ravvicinata del modulo, in alto a destra vedrete un connettore che va alla antenna…quello è un connettore U.LF)

Mi sa che appena ho tempo e denaro acquisto due cavetti di questo tipo e un’altra antenna ad alto guadagno (questa volta 9 dBi) e monto il tutto sul router

Nachdem ich nun endlich die Broadcom-Karte zum Laufen bekommen hatte, beschäftigte ich mich heute abend noch einmal mit dem Thema ndiswrapper und den Treibern für eine Sitecom WL-112 Cardbus-Karte. Gestern hatte ich sie in das Notebook gesteckt und erntete keine Reaktion darauf, auch dmesg teilte mir mit, dass eine Powerversorgung nicht möglich sei. Also entschloss ich mich, mit dem Einsatz des ndiswrappers nachzuhelfen. Dazu musste ich zur Installation des ndiswrapper ein Kernel-Update auf 2.6.23.1-10 vollziehen. Zu meiner Verwunderung stellte ich nach dem Update des Kernels fest, dass die Powerlampen der Karte blinkten. Ein Blick auf dmesg und lspci zeigten mir, dass sich plötzlich ein RaLink 2500-Treiber für die Karte verantwortlich fühlte. Und mittels NetworkManager griff sie nach Aktivierung auch sofort auf das Netzwerk zu.

Steckt im neuen Kernel etwa standardmäßig ein RaLink-Modul? Ich jedenfalls bin zufrieden. Nur die PCI-Karte des gleichen Herstellers mit einem ISL3886 Prism Xbow/Javelin Chipsatz habe ich noch nicht zum Laufen bekommen, auch nicht mit dem ndiswrapper.
