Pada 6 – 9 November lepas, satu kem iaitu Kem 1Malaysia telah dijalankan di SK Nanga Stras.  Seramai 12 anak murid dari SK Bukit Nibong telah berjaya terpilih untuk menyertai kem tersebut. Kem ini bertujuan untuk merapatkan lagi hubungan pelajar-pelajar yang pelbagai kaum dan mewujudkan konsep 1Malaysia dalam diri mereka. Kesemua pelajar begitu seronok dan gembira sekali sepanjang kem ini dengan berjumpa ramai kawan-kawan baru. Diharapkan kem ini akan diteruskan pada masa hadapan.

Recently at the LA Coliseum, the sexy ladies of the Lingerie Football League displayed their ample assets as they discussed strategy to win this years LFL championship title.

They promised plenty of potential wardrobe malfunctions and tight end manuevers…

Cho dù không tham gia giải DTS Cup được tổ chức tại Ukraine tuần qua, nhưng vị trí thứ 2 của SK tại KODE5 cũng đủ để họ chiếm lấy vị trí của mTw, team chỉ xếp thứ 4 tại giải đấu này.

Với một loạt các chức vô địch liên tiếp, fnatic vô cùng vững chãi trên ngôi cao với số điểm khá an toàn. Trong khi đó, Evil Geniuses biến mất khỏi top 10 do thành tích không thuyết phục của họ trong năm nay.

WICKED, team vừa vô địch DTS Cup chỉ kiếm được số điểm khá ít ỏi từ giải đấu này, do DTS Cup 2009 có rất ít các team mạnh tham gia. Vì vậy WICKED chỉ leo thêm được một bậc tới vị trí thứ 9, đẩy emuLate xuống đáy bảng.

JLo falls onstage...then pops up and keeps it moving

Last night,Dick Clark and ABC television hosted the annual American Music Awards, where all kind of crazy and cool happenings went on,and Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert still stood out.

I like it how every year some new act feels the need to shock and push the limits of the public morals to the breaking point, and this year the winner for that category is Adam Lambert.

Adam,the runner-up for last seasons American Idol competition,decided to out do Katy Perry who kissed a girl, or at least had a hit record about it, by kissing a guy on stage.

And, as if that was not enough to get his point across, he then grabbed a male dancer, and had him kiss,…or do something like that, to his crotch. Many guys have done this on stage before,except with women.

I think the best one was that awards show on Spike TV hosted by Jamie Foxx,when he grabbed Halle Berry’s nice behind and laid a good kiss on her…remember that.

In the continuing effort to tell stories about someone other than myself, let me brag on the ladies of Sovereign King Church.  They have an event called “Sweet Mondays” every other month that is essentially a themed social gathering for our ladies, their friends, and neighbors.  They’ve done everything from celebrating holidays, scrapbooking, making meals for families who are sick, and so forth.  Last night’s meal was a Thanksgiving Celebration.

Instead of just getting together and hanging (which is perfectly fine and of itself), they decided to extend an invite to the local women’s shelter with which Sovereign King Church partners.  This is a home where mom’s and children can find refuge, find a job, get a restart, and then launch back out on their own.  SK has been able to do a few small things for the ladies upon entry or exit, but our folks continually want to do more.  The goal is to makes sure these ladies do not feel like projects or mercy cases but are instead welcomed in as friends.  Well, the ladies of SK outdid themselves last night.

An enormous Thanksgiving feast was held with all the ladies of SK, the entire household from the women’s shelter, and a few other friends sprinkled in for good measure.  From all accounts, everyone laughed, enjoyed themselves, and celebrated those things for which they were thankful which is always the recipe for a good Thanksgiving meal.

Rocking job, ladies of SK.  Any of you who were there last night, feel free to fill in with more details about the food or anything else that was great about the evening.

At the first night of the SK Event at SBECC, a couple of bands played. Here’s Raimund Marasigan for Sandwich.

I would have to say that I did not like the SK Convention that we documented due to the mishaps they have in their program. It’s very unprofessional how they handled some parts of it. Those parts that included us, to be specific. Anyway, I at least enjoyed the company of people I just met and the bands that played on the first night.

It was kind of hard looking for good angles and the right timing to take pictures in this concert because the crowd was pressing against the stage making space for movement limited. But I was still able to take some pretty nice shots. So horrah for that.

I love shots like this one: light source on the background giving outline to the subject in the foreground. Not to mention capturing the emotions that go through the subject as they perform. Fun fun. I love being able to shoot these kinds of thing. Hopefully more opportunities like this come. If I keep this up, I may try to sign up again for this photog group in the States. But right now, I’ve to practice s’more and learn to adjust at the most difficult situations.

Hearing the title you’d think I was talking about basketball.

That’s Earl in the red shorts and Rein helping him toss himself into the pool. They’re bandmates in Faultline. Earl in this photo kinda reminds me of the dried fish we see in the market. He looks like a fish toppling in the waters. Hi, Earl!

And here’s Bruce and Ryan wilding it out. Just kidding. We were waiting for the event to start so we spent the remaining minutes playing about. Wish I had a better angle at this but I’m still quite happy getting this anyway. Their shadow looks big in the background. And you can really see the emotions going through them in this shot. I have more fun shots from this bunch of people.

Today’s tutorial is a Macrame Bookmark perfect for a student or someone who loves to read or write. It has a Winter theme with snowflakes and Snowmen and would make a great Christmas stocking stuffer.

Supplies/Tools Needed to Make Bookmark

• 6 yards of 2mm braided macrame cord
• 4 medium sized buttons with 2 holes
• 2 silver snowflakes
• scissors
• ruler/tape measure/yardstick
• large hole metal tapestry needle

Step 1.

Cut 1 cord 1 1/2 yards long. (Filler cord)
Cut 1 cord 4 1/2 yards long. (Tying cord)

Step 2 – Adding Buttons and Snowflake.

Find the center of the 1 1/2 yard cord.

String one end of cord through the 1st button, silver snowflake and 2nd button. Center so cord ends measure evenly. (See photo)

Pull cords tight so buttons fit tight against silver snowflake like a sandwich.

Step 3 – Adding Tying Cord.

Find center of 4 1/2 yard cord and position it UNDER the filler cords. Tie one Square Knot (SK) with the tying cords, the longer cords. Slide knot up close to the buttons.

Step 4 – Tying the top Square Knot Button.

Drop down 1/4″ and tie a Square Knot Button consisting of 7 square knots. In a row. This is called a Sennet. SK Button will hold a pen or pencil.

Take filler cords (the middle cords) and go up and through the holes created. Front to back. Pull down to form a Square Knot Button.

Tie one SK under the SK Button to secure it.

Step 5 – Tying Square Knot Sennet.

Tie 12″ of square knots. In a row. One after the other.

Step 6 – Tying the Bottom Square Knot Button.

Drop down 1/4″ and tie a Square Knot Button consisting of 7 square knots. Same as you did in Step 4.

Tie TWO square knots under the SK Button.

That completes the knot tying and now you will bury all cords except ONE FILLER CORD. That cord will be used to string the last buttons and silver snowflake. Using the large hole metal needle, bury one cord at a time, from the back, going up through the knotwork. (See photo)

Step 7 – Adding Bottom Buttons and Snowflake.

String cord through buttons and silver snowflake per the photo. Pull cords tight so buttons fit tight against the silver snowflake like a sandwich.

Step 8.

To finish off cord end: Tie around base of the cord or hand sew together. Trim cord end.

All done. Finished and ready to enjoy for yourself or to give as a gift.

Bookmark measures 14″.

Variations: Make longer or shorter by adjusting cord lengths. Use whatever buttons or decorations preferred. Omit bottom square knot button if wish.

The Spotlight models were asked to share the items they selected to accentuate the designer’s fashions. SK-The Warm Up Mix

 SK is Pennsylvania’s newest representative. He’s been grinding for a minute, spitting hot rhymes over hot beats. Here we see him team up with the ever growing DJ Woogie, to drop his mixtape ‘The Warm Up Mix’

 We start the mixtape off with two heavy Tribute’ to some legends of hip hop. Biggie and 2Pac. There’s some clever rhymes here, with some nice rhyme schemes. I really like how we hear both SK and The Notorious B.I.G., or 2Pac, on the same track, it makes for a more authentic feel to the ‘tribute’ sound. SK then hops on the absolutely crazy beat for The Game’s Dope Boys. We get some insane wordplay, with witty punchlines and a crazy flow! This is a banger, you have to crank up the volume for this! Late Night has a different structure and sound to most hip hop out at the moment, it’s got a slow, laid back feel to it, coupled with the soulful instrumental, it’s a fantastic combination! Big Spender is catchy, the beat is crazy, as we already know from the mainstream version, but the flow is outstanding! With a rapid fire, machine gun flow, SK gets busy on this! You’ll be quoting SK bars, and singing Shirley Bassey all day after hearing this! Family On My Back is SK’s take on Young Jeezy’s Put On. We get an atmospheric track with some simplistic bars, but on this track, SK didn’t need to get overly lyrical, we get that anthemic, representative feel, and that’s what makes the track dope! We then get a quick freestyle over Lil Wayne’s smash Lollipop. Again we get some witty bars, with a unique, almost off-beat flow that turns out sick! Murderer, a remix of the Rihanna track, is the deepest track on the mixtape, and it shows that SK can get meaningful, and not only make hardcore hip hop.

 The Warm Up Mix is pretty dope, we get mostly hardcore hip hop, which SK does exceptionally. Towards the end of the mixtape we get to see a little more diversity, and if this was showcased throughout the mixtape, this may have been a 4.5 or even a 5 out of 5 rated CD! As it is, we get great bars and great mixing, definitely a mixtape to check out!

Something that I find interesting is the notion players have of the word “Skill”. It’s completely polarized and often people will argue about it when someone says “Game X requires no skill” or the opposite. While wikipedia is not the word of truth, it should be a good starting reference:

A skill (also called talent) is the learned capacity to carry out pre-determined results often with the minimum outlay of time, energy, or both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-specific skills.

Both the words skill and hard will produce a very mixed discussion between MMO players. I’m sure everyone has already seen talks about how “this game requires no skill” or “how can it be hard to kill a boss when it’s pre-set to do the same things all the time?”

I think these discussions often come from the fact that people tend to think that skill is necessarily linked to reflexes and challenge to unpredictability, which is in my opinion a fallacy, and a very thick argument when people want to prove their points. As I mentioned in the past article, people are interested in measure ways to trust in others, but these ways may not necessarily reflect others’ skill. Couple that with the fact that different “domain-specific skills” are usually forgotten (EVE was a good example) and you can see how the perception of easy and hard can be extremely distorted.

Hard and easy are subjective concepts that are not even necessarily linked to any domain-specific skill. From wiktionary this time:

2. Requiring a lot of effort to do or understand
“a hard problem”
Anything can be hard or easy, if it puts enough pressure on the individual. It’s common to see people arguing that WoW raids, for example, cannot be hard because they’re just coded behaviors that don’t change. This does not matter – Either hard-coded or RNG-Dependent behaviors may require as much effort as a pseudo-random behavior or even a Strong AI. Now, if the raids are indeed easy or not, that’s a different story – it all depends on how they are tuned and implemented. If single-player games were inherently unable to offer some challenge, they wouldn’t have been so popular.

Take for example Poker. Poker is a “RNG” game, however you’ll often see depicted in movies (and tournaments) players dueling not against the RNG, but psychologically against each other. In this case, the skill required comes from understanding and manipulating the human mind.

Because skill is so subjective, it may not be something as obvious to see in a certain game, or not even what the creator originally intended it to be. Would fighting a pro-Starcraft Korean player be hard? Yes it would. It would require knowledge of the strategy inherent to the game, the capacity to perform fast movements AND the ability to understand your opponent’s mind and predict his actions. Each of these skills belong to different domains and are practiced in different ways, but in the end they’re as depicted, “learned capacities to carry out pre-determined results with the minimum outlay of time, energy, or both”, whatever these results may be.

Ultimately the most important link is that fun != hard. Games should be, above all, fun. Some people may like things challenging, others may prefer a sandbox with no real inherent challenge. Some may look for a relaxing experience, others look for something hardcore (and there’s a reason why there’s “hard” in it!). It’s important to know how to appeal to your audience.

But for us who enjoy some challenge, if everything was devoid of effort, it wouldn’t be fun, right? The importance here is to understand the nature of the effort we’re talking about. Competing in the Olympics requires an effort that is essentially different from competing in the Starcraft leagues. While we’ll not argue about which is ultimately harder, they’re both present.

Have you been keeping up with the Korean Series?

Unfortunately I’ve been pretty busy of late, and haven’t been able to work on this blog much. I even missed quite a lot of the games. I was, however, in attendance on Monday night, and saw the bench-clearing incident in person. If you’re not up to speed, check out this article at the Joongang Daily. It was a pretty tame affair; nothing like the SK – Doosan shenanigans of 2007. But unlike two years ago, it was fairly unclear what transpired between the two players. The Joongang article sheds some light, but I found an interesting take on the incident at Naver Questions (Korea’s answer to Yahoo Questions) of which you can see the original here.

Seo Jae-weong was wrong. (Um, but actually it’s not all that clear, so I kind of want to support him, haha. I’m pretty biased, so please understand me. ^^)

Situation:

1. He caught the ball, headed straight for him, with his bare hand. (Anyone who plays baseball knows how much this friggin’ hurts.)

2. He threw it to first base too slowly. (This can be a way to taunt the batter and is probably enough to be misunderstood as such, although because of situation #1, it should be considered fair enough.)

3. Jeong Geun-woo stared him down. (Um, whether he’s a senior or not, this is bad. I don’t think seniors always have to be respected, but in sports, the senior-junior relationship is very strong and this would be enough to rile him up. But it’s not really the best time to debate the senior-junior culture in Korean sports, haha.)

4. Seo Jae-weong claimed that Jeong Geun-woo said something. But this didn’t seem to appear on the replay, so let’s skip this.

5. Seo Jae-weong swore at Jeong Geun-woo and walked up to him. (That’s his own doing. Even if you are in a bad mood you should never swear. So Jeong Geun-woo’s provocation worked, ahh you idiot Seo Jae-weong!)

6. Jeong Geun-woo came up to Seo Jae-weong looking for a fight. (If he was sworn at I can understand him at least. But Jeong Geun-woo didn’t do anything right either. Is swearing definitely the wrong thing to do when someone tries to stare you down like that? Confronting someone over a swear word isn’t exactly the right thing either. In other words, neither of them were behaving like saintly gentlemen.)

Conclusion:

1. As a public figure, it was wrong of Seo Jae-weong to swear.

2. Jeong Geun-woo didn’t do anything right either.

And with that, we can look forward to Game 5 tonight. Looks like my prediction of a KIA steamrolling was a bit off. This series is absolutely up for grabs. The key for KIA will be to make the most of their starting pitching, especially with Lopez and presumably Yoon Suk-min coming up. If SK jump them early, it might be curtains for them. The X-factor is SK’s shaky bullpen and how well it holds up. It almost didn’t on Tuesday night.

I really want to make a prediction, but it’s genuinely too close to call. You want to know who’s going to win? Flip a coin.
