Well, a new start (again). Joy! I hope this blog will bear more fruit than my previous ones..

 I will begin by introducing myself.

My name is Christina, called SAI online and Christ by close friends (they say it’s easier than saying my whole name). My grammar is atrocious so dont mind me, hehe. Anyway, I’m into anime and the Japanese culture. I don’t know why but it just fascinates me. Also, I think I should point this out right now: I am an intense yaoi fan. Yep, yaoi. It’s just so damn sexy ..I mean, it’s very interesting. Haha… moving on. I like to draw alot and I love gaming. I’m getting a tablet soon so maybe I can upload a few of my pictures? Well, that’s after I get enough money (anyone want to donate? *puppy eyes*) to buy it. I LOVE the Vocaloids, especially Len and Akaito.  They are very sexy indeed. >.

That’s enough about my boring self.

Today I bought new headphones because my other pair broke. I seem to have bad luck with those things because every month or so they just break. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but it’s quite annoying. So as I was saying, I bought a pair of Skullcandy’s the Paul Frank edition (they have little monkey’s on them so I couldn’t resist!). I was looking at them and remembering my old pair of Skullcandy headphones (which, by the way, also broke D:) and thinking how this brand is better than the JRC (whatever they are called) brand. I liked the fact that Skullcandy’s had no “left” or “right” ear piece, as it made it easier to just throw one in my ear when I wanted to. So after I opened them and looked at the monkey’s, I realized they did indeed have a right and left ear piece. So all this time I was fooled. They could have made it easier to see! (the L and R are on the wire, but it’s hard to see!) For a moment I spaced and instantly forgot which direction was left or right. I felt a little stupid a while later as I thought to myself, “Come on, you’re fifteen! You should know your left from your right…” That moment was an epic FAIL! I can’t even believe I forgot which way was right or left. I’m definitely not telling my mum about this!

So that’s about it… Ah, before I forget! Happy (belated? O_o) Thanksgiving to all!

In yet another quest for more audio “stuff” I began hunting for a decent pair of Buds for my Sansa Clip which I use at the gym, and will be reviewed later. Note I have, ohhh about 10 pairs of various brands and designs, up to and including reference studio headphones I run through my Citypulse DAC converter. So needless to say I have a broad listening range of products to compare my new Skullcandy INK’D Earbuds too. As usual I search all the review sites looking for the best sound verses best price, (since these are tight times), my goal was to find a decent sounding not too bass’ie comfortable pair of buds. Well I found them, I was blown away by the depth of sound, the rather clean bass, and excellent tonal quality of such, dare I say cheap set of buds.

I have learned to be cautious of anyone who states, “I am and audiophile”, as one such reviewer did here, don’t let them sway you, of course the Skullcandy Bud’s don’t compare to a set of full ear headphones, that is not the purpose for which they were designed. And considering I am exclusively playing MP3′S, hear me, there is really no logical need to spend hundreds of dollars on earbuds, sorry Sure! Save that money for the really necessary things like, bigger speakers, or 60 inch plasma TV

Tongue in cheek, I am an audiophile, or an idiot who has spent enough money on audio equipment he could have used the money to add a second floor to his house, oh well we have our obsessions, you WILL NOT find better sound for less than a $100, no the Skullcandy buds will not shake your fillings out, rattle your glasses off your head, or bring tears to your eyes, with deep bass, crystal highs, or perfect mid’s, but they will offer you excellent sound, playing compressed MP3 digital music on any MP3 player including my $50.00 Sansa Clip. To all the people who say these buds are tinny, have no bass, first check your equalizer, second how your ripping your MP3′S, the more you compress, the crappier the sound regardless of the equipment, remember bigger files more info, better sound…

So go get ya a pair, I really do not think you will be disappointed, the sound is clear, the mid’s are smooth, and the bass is more than acceptable for a pair of earbuds in the 10-25 dollar range!!!. Or start your own drawer of unused headphones like me!!

The SkullCandy Pipe

One of the more popular items for students on college campuses is a good set of speakers for their iPod or iPhone. Products like the iHome or a set of Logitech speakers can run anywhere from $75-$200 depending on the style and the features and can take up a good amount of space on your desk or night stand. The Skullcandy Pipe has both an iPod dock, as well as a line-in you can use to plug in other MP3 players or your computer and even comes with a fully functional remote. The dock runs on a 110v power supply, or you can use four AAA batteries and bring it with you on the go. It’s sleek design allows for easy storage and transportation and takes up little space when you need to listen to your music. The 50mm audio drivers deliver a load and clear sound that surprises most because of the devices small stature.

Skullcandy is at it again with their new smokin’ buds headphones for the young crowd.  They’re pretty much what you’d expect from these guys, poor sound quality but nice design.  You can get these things in a variety of colors, 22 to be exact. 

The cool factor here is the cord.  It’s wrapped in cloth and extra thick.  If you’re as rough with your buds as I am, strength in this area is always a plus.

Well, there’s really not a whole lot going on here we have’nt seen before, folks.  Nevertheless, not a bad purchase if you’re willing to sacrifice sonic glory for a funky new look.

Okay, so I ran out of blog title ideas ) So i decided to use one of Italy’s (Axis Powers Hetalia) many famous er… sounds? XD

I haven’t posted anything in about a month and all I can blame are:

• FACEBOOK (It’s literally taking over my life XD)
• The Sims 2 (I recently downloaded it on my Mac and now i’m hooked!)
• Warcraft 3 (Reign of Chaos and Frozen throne)
• MININOVA (The urge to download more games is killing me!!!)

Yup, instead of saying I forgot to blog, I give you a list of excuses reasons on why I forgot about this blog.

Oh right. I forgot to mention, yesterday was my birthday but the streets were mostly empty because everyone was in the cemetery honoring the dead (I was born on All Soul’s Day)

We went to Podium and my aunt got me SKULLCANDY GI HEADPHONES, the headphones of my dreams.

You’ve probably read a bunch of reviews and most of them are bad reviews. Well, I kind of felt discouraged on asking for these too after reading lots of reviews. But, I took the plunge and asked for them anyway. And they’re actually very comfortable and I like the sound quality (but that’s just my opinion)

My cousins and friend got me gifts today.

Luito and Bella (my cousins) got me a “How to write winning reports and essays” book and 2 birthday cards. Luito admitted that he just found that book while they were fixing up his house ) But I told him I liked it anyway (which I really do ). And Kyle got me a plastic Naruto Kunai which made me freeze for a while thinking “YESS!!”. Kyle told me it was only 180 pesos so it was okay if I broke it. I didn’t know how to react to that )

Okay. My creative juices have stopped flowing…I’m gonna get some sleep now.

I decided because of this to finally invest in some Full Metal Jackets. They retail for $70, but with the coupon and free shipping, I got them for a few cents under $35.

I went with the red ones, seeing as red is my favorite color, and the color of the Nano I will eventually use them with. I knew I was buying the 11mm version, as the 9mm is discontinued as it seems, but there are two versions of the 11mm. Version A as I will call it from now on, has a white cable, a white carrying case, 3 silicon tips, and an inline volume control. Version B has a clear cable where you can see the aluminum wrapping inside, an extension cable, 3 silicon tips and 2 comply foam tips, and a black cloth drawstring pouch.

I believe there are pros and cons to both versions. Version A has a better carrying case, and the inline volume control. I view the control as almost necessary after using Smokin’ Buds for so long, as it is the closest thing you can get to having a play/pause button on your earphones like the Apple ones, since it keeps your device in your pocket, where it belongs. Version B however has a much more attractive cable as it is less likely to appear dirty (you all know how disgusting the Apple buds look after a couple months) and the braided aluminum is just more attractive than the plain white. The extension cable is great, it makes Version B the same length as Version A, but you have the option to make the cable about a foot and a half long, something invaluable with an armband. The comply foam tips are great as well, they work just like earplugs would, you squish them, insert them into your ear canals, and they expand, providing a more comfortable fit, and better sound isolation, as you can really only hear yourself breathing when you wear them. The foam tips can be bought on skullcandy’s site, and work with all of their buds, such as ink’d, smokin’ buds, and TiTans. The carrying pouch they come with is not my ideal carrying case, I would rather have something ridded, and have taken to using a round metal mints tin instead.

I’m not an expert on sound, I don’t buy $300 headphones, I can’t even adjust the settings on my stereo to make it sound better, and these are probably the nicest headphones I’ve ever used. That being said I really like these earphones. They have 11mm drivers in them, which makes for some heavy bass. They get much louder than is comfortable for me, as with my iPhone I usually listen at somewhere between 4 and 6 out of 16 notches on the volume meter whereas in comparison with the Apple buds, I listen to it between 8 and 12. I haven’t noticed any distortion at high volumes or any buzzing at all, regardless of the volume.

I can’t see these as a good choice for workout earphones, the fact that they have the short cable on them would be ideal for an armband, and makes me curious why the Asym earphones don’t have a short cable with an extension, considering most people who use buds while working out use an armband.

These are my third pair of skullcandy headphones, I own a pair of Smokin’ Buds and Lowriders. These are by far my favorite pair oh headphones I own. While I would prefer having an inline volume control and a nicer carrying pouch, I prefer the version I got, as the pros from it outweigh its cons in comparison.

I was originally going to post pictures of the contents, but my camera takes terrible closeup shots, so opted to not use any that I took.

Hmm. I haven’t updated for four days. Feels like forever.
Normally, this would be a long post, but it’s nearly six a.m. and I’m tired so I won’t make it too long.
The MDR EX-500’s are still sounding really sweet, though I’m not enjoying them as much as I did the Skullcandy Smokin’ Buds.

Firstly, they came free because I had a Kondor voucher with my then-new phone. Secondly, I had pure unadulterated fun with those – I would blast music as loud as I wanted without a care in the world. I had great times and I had bad times, but sticking those in my ears and playing some good music always made me feel great.

I don’t get that with the Sony pair. I’m being careful not to break them or damage them. I’m worrying about how much slack there is on the wire and whether it’s in a position in which it could get damage. Sound leakage is pretty bad too, especially compared to the Skullcandy, so I have to consider the people around me.
Is this a sign that I’m growing up?

University has been a fairly hot topic over the last few days. The way it seems is that I’ll be staying in Birmingham, still living with my parents. Exactly what I didn’t want. I want to learn to be independent – to know how to survive when I know there’s nobody around. I proposed a compromise – living in student accommodation, but stay in Birmingham. That way I’m not far away but I still have the independence I want so much. My sisters both said the obvious: “It’s a complete waste of money”. I mentioned it to mum and she didn’t say much, other than one sister is moving out, she’ll get the next one married off, my brother and his family will move out and she and dad will go to another country – then I’ll get my independence and experience of living alone.
I’ll take that as a no then, shall I?

My room should start coming along soon. My sister’s new house is well under way so in a week a two, my bed will be moved into her new spare room. I’ve decided I’m not going to replace it as beds take up too much unnecessary space, and proved my point by sleeping on the floor this whole week. Dad has agreed to letting me do that. That means that all I need for my room is a wardrobe, computer desk and a soft corner.

College is still a bit of a joke, but it’s slowly getting better. I think most of my resentment towards the place is now just residue from the appalling first few weeks, which is occasionally added to by something stupid. I finished the website design and put it live onto my host. I hate it when free web hosts handicap the service by doing stuff like restricting .htaccess/.htpasswd, and only enable it for a fee. It means that I can’t provide basic password protection on the site. My old hosting account at 110mb.com is still active from when I used to use it to host my MySearchFunds/MyHPF cheat bot (an auto-searcher for a paid-to-search website). 110mb.com, at the moment, only offer 110mb worth of web space with 10gb of bandwidth. Yes, sounds logical, after all, the name is 110mb.com. But when I registered, it was 5gb of web space and 30gb of bandwidth. I logged in…I still have it Unfortunately, that is one of the sites that cripple htaccess.
I’m using Awardspace to host my assignment. Nothing special about it, but it’s really annoying that it hijacks error pages with it’s own bullshit for free users. That alone might convince me to go back to 110mb, provided that they don’t do it too. Or I could just borrow some web space from dad’s hosting account – that’s paid hosting so I get what I want.

Ayesha invited me to a birthday party of some sort. Her boyfriend is arranging it and she doesn’t know the details so she’s told me to ask him. Part of me doesn’t want to go. Every time I think of her, I think of how I feel felt about her. But she’s still a really good friend and I miss her.
I don’t know whether to go or not. Depends on whether I can even make it.

Why is it that whenever there’s a girl I might like, there’s always a caveat? I don’t know how to play for fun so I play for keeps. Playing for keeps means I have to take a bunch of things into consideration, but so far, the only girls I’ve been interested in have all had something that’s made me pull back. Some were taken, some were too far away, some were just incompatible and some were just skin deep.
It does wonders to the self-esteem when you’re nearly 18 and your greatest achievement with the opposite gender was holding hands, which took nearly two years to get to.

But it’s okay, this is just a passing phase. I’ll wake up in the morning to the sound of my niece whining and I’ll remember exactly why I’ll avoid getting married; to avoid having kids. Having kids puts me at risk of asking the question “Why should I have to take the kids to counselling? I’m not even the one who loves them.”. I am pretty heartless. She was doing my head in while I was trying to fix my brothers laptop, asking for a duck video (some sort of nursery rhyme video my brother had) and wouldn’t shut up, so I told her the duck is dead.

Speaking of my brothers laptop, he put the new 320gb hard drive in it. It’s a Dell Inspiron 9300 – quite old; the BIOS is dated 2005. Yeah, an old BIOS. Doesn’t make for good compatibility with new hard drives.
Apparently, this BIOS isn’t 48-bit LBA compatible, so it would only see 137gb of the hard drive. I managed to get it working though. Created a 100gb partition and installed XP on it. Then tweaked the registry; adding a EnableBigLba key to it. Reboot, load up Acronis Disk Director and create a new partition on the 200gb that just showed up.

Alexandra Burke’s new album, Overcome, will be out on Monday. I’ve listened to it and found a few tracks I like. Bad Boyz, which is the A-side I guess, annoys the hell out of me. The song itself is okay, but there’s a line at 0:30; I think she says “It feels my heart’s divided”, is exactly like another song. I mean completely identical in tune – just change the lyrics to match the other song and it’ll be almost an exact copy of it.
But I can’t figure out what song it is. It’s one I like, but it reminds me of bad times at school, meaning I probably deleted it when I wiped half my collection a while back. Oh, and the “Uay, uah” in the song is just a piss take. Which deaf idiot thought that was a good idea?
The other songs I like are The Silence, Dumb and Gotta Go.
Gotta Go and The Silence make me think of Ayesha. =/

Oh, I was told today that Syncrosoft’s copy protection was finally broken by AiR. It’s the copy protection used in Steinberg software like Cubase and Nuendo, and has until now, been uncrackable. I know wannabe DJ I used to be friends with at school who would have wet dreams about getting Cubase. He’s been trying to add me on facebook for a few months and I kept denying him because I still hate him for some of the stuff he said to me. I was so tempted to add him on facebook just to rub it in his nose that I can get it and he can’t.
Kudos to AiR though – epic skills there. It makes me think though, imagine if the cracking teams were on the other side, creating the copy protection software. It’d actually be pretty cool to see what sort of stuff these guys can come up with. Microsoft should hire them :p

On October 15th, the TechHub held the SkullCandy “Headphones For Your Dead-Phones” event at the shop. To participate, you had to bring in a pair of your old broken down headphones and trade up to a pair of SkullCandy Icon headphones. The event started at 11AM on the dot, but we had people showing up to wait well before that time. Once the event kicked off, we wound up trading all of the headphones we had in about 20 minutes.
