How, freaking long until I get to this part?

So what have I been doing? Nothing. Having to take a break of Eyeshield 21 because I’m only supposed to watch 50 consecutive episodes of Eyeshield 21 until I HATE it. How much of a bitch can Sena be? So I started Slam Dunk. How fucking long until I see some basketball? I’ve looking for some good anime, and I’ll be honest I don’t think it exists. Kare Kano has TWO FUCKING CONSECUTIVE RECAP EPISODES! I buy anime DVD’s so I could recap myself if I wanted to remember something.

He whined his way out of Toronto nearly six years ago, with very little to show for himself since. A player that was once touted as the next Michael Jordan has never really lived up to his potential as an NBA superstar. Today, Vince Carter is probably best known for a dunk he made in the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk Competition while still a member of the Toronto Raptors (which is pretty sad for someone with his talent).

Yet, when Vince Carter returns to Toronto, he always seems to have a flare for the heroics. He torched the Raptors as a New Jersey Net on several occasions and looks poised to do it again as a member of a very talented Orlando Magic squad.

Carter is best known for a slam dunk competition.

Raptor fans loath him and the rest of the league (except for Orlando) seem to realize his indifference to winning makes him more of a problem than an asset. He is a figure of the past, yet every time he returns to Toronto, he gets booed. As a Torontonian, I understand the hate, the disappointment, the feeling of abandonment Carter has caused – but booing him only adds fuel to the fire.

It’s clear Vince Carter is anything but a self motivated individual, so let’s not give him a reason to want to win. Rather than reminding him that we still remember, why not let him know that we forget? In the grand scheme of things, Vince Carter will never be a true difference maker in the NBA. Let’s let him finish out his career knowing we don’t care.

My cellphone’s insistent jangle burst into the splendor of the pre-school parent-teacher conference. We were in the midst of hearing about our son’s many strengths: high cognitive skills, wonderful communication, exemplary vocabulary and supreme sense of humor. Embarrassed by the interruption and not wanting to disturb the string of compliments, I found the phone and abruptly turned it off.

A moment later my brain registered concern. I had seen the identity of the caller—my friend who was picking up our older son after school. As the pre-school teacher continued his praise, a fraction of my brain ran through the possible reasons for her call. Perhaps she was reporting that she had him and all was well. Or maybe she was checking if it was okay to get ice cream, since her sugar standards are more generous than mine. I trusted that she could handle whatever might be going on, and that in fifteen minutes I would be done with the younger brother who is always shorted on attention. But part of me was already gone, wondering and hoping nothing was wrong.

The moment our conference ended I called back. I listened for a clue in the tone of her “hello.” I heard no panic, only concern. The news: my child had fallen while playing basketball, moments after he arrived at her house. He was lying down with ice on his elevated foot, which might be the tiniest bit swollen. He did not want to play; he wanted his mommy. Something was wrong.

Relief sprinkled with guilt danced down my spine. This was not an ambulance emergency, but it was a real injury and I had not answered the call. Points off for me.

We hurried over. When he saw me, his red eyes closed, his mouth twisted, and he reached for a hug. He hurt. I lifted him up and carried his 60 pounds to our waiting car.

Settled at home, I phoned the pediatrician. “Didn’t I see you five minutes ago?” she said, herself the mother of a pre-schooler. “What happened since then?”

“Slam dunk contest,” I explained. “Hmm. It could be broken,” she said, “but it’s too late in the day to get an orthopedist appointment and I don’t want you within a mile of the ER. If he can’t walk on it tomorrow morning, go get it X-ray’d.” We kept it on ice, fed him Motrin, and crossed our fingers.

The X-ray the next morning showed three broken bones, clear as the sunny day outside. The orthopedist held the film up to the sunshine streaming through the window on the eleventh floor of the medical building. Four floors below was the obstetrician whose hands guided this child’s entrance into the world, whole and perfect. I stared at the broken bones I was entrusted to safeguard and felt a momentary dizziness, a breach of duty.

The mop-haired orthopedist explained how the foot’s growth plate would create new bone cells to heal these fractures in a matter of two weeks. I wanted to know about long term consequences: “Will this be a problem for his future in the NBA?” He gave me a smile, looked back at the X-ray, and did not spoil any dreams: “No. This won’t be a factor to keep him from professional sports.” Other things may, but not this. Good enough.

From the rainbow assortment of casts, Aaron chose light blue, for the Dodgers. The doctor cautioned us not to scratch under it, warning about cuts and infections. I carried Aaron to the elevator, and his feet almost reached the floor. But he knew how to hold on, his four-foot-four frame wrapped around me. I didn’t mind; it was something I could do for him, a penance.

Downstairs, the pharmacist equipped him with crutches, and told him he was the best 8-year-old crutch-user she had ever trained. But they were no match for the three deep steps leading to our front door. Aaron handed me the crutches when we got home, and reached up for his father’s arms to carry him in.

The rest of the day brought visitors with balloons and Sharpies to sign his cast. His girl cousins drew hearts, his grandfather wrote “break a leg.” He worried aloud about how it would feel to sleep with a cast on.

At 3:00 a.m. the itching began. “Mom!” he moaned from his bed. “It itches so bad!” I thought of the doctor’s warning of infected cuts and tried to comfort him in other ways. I scratched his back. No help. I offered him mind tricks: “Try scratching the other leg and see if it helps.” Uh-uh. I tried persuasion: “An itch is just your nerves telling your brain to scratch, but there’s nothing physical there.” No! Mom, please!

Neither of us could take it any longer. I searched the darkened house for a safe scratcher. I came back to his room with a scrubbed-clean skinny paintbrush. “Use this,” I said.

He accepted the black rounded implement and gently guided it down the top of the cast toward the middle of his shin. One second later came one of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard, as beautiful as the cry that followed the frightening minute of silence after he was born: “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.” His face relaxed into sheer relief as he exhaled in ecstasy. I took the implement from his hand and set it on the table next to him. He rolled over, murmured “thank you, mama” and fell asleep before I could kiss his head “you’re welcome.”

He had the weekend to learn how to walk on three legs. It was hard, unsteady work. He left the crutches in the corner most of the time, opting for crawling and hopping. His good leg tired. His armpits ached. His heart dampened from missing flag football games. His mind worried about how he would fare at school, with his classroom on the second floor.

Monday came, we arrived at his school with some trepidation. In a matter of minutes he learned some good things: There is an elevator at school. He can choose a different friend to ride with him each time. He can play on the classroom computer at lunchtime with anyone he picks. As the day went on, he and I learned ever more valuable lessons: Children can be kind, patient and compassionate. He is strong. He is resilient. At his core, he has a positive outlook. He can weather this. He can meet any challenge. Nothing can stop him.

So Saturday I had the chance to shoot both OSU football and OSU basketball, and it wound up being a very long day.

Not to help matters out, but i had to end up sitting in the media room of  GIA for almost more the two hours to be expected.

When the refs finally showed up we thought the game was about to start, but then out of no were they added more time to the clock. Would you like to know why? It’s because the other team decided they were hungry and it was time for them to go get some quizznos.

MMM MMM Good is what the cowboys were saying after the game, because they wound up beating Seattle U, and advanced in the Las Vegas tournament.

Eli and I worked together years ago at Polo Ralph lauren– I always appreciated his quick smile, incredible humor, and fun-loving style.  Mr. Getson has long been threatening to contribute to TSY with his own nostalgic ramblings & rants on sports, music & menswear– and now he’s finally making good on his word.

Tao can be roughly translated into English as path, or the way.  It is basically indefinable–  referring to a power which envelops, surrounds and flows through all things, living and non-living.  The Tao regulates natural processes and nourishes balance in the Universe.  It has to be experienced in order to be truly understood.

For me, no other athlete better embodies this “flow” — using the natural passive power in the universe that flows through all of us and turning it into kinetic energy — than Julius “Dr. J” Erving. I will never forget watching him back in the day– high socks, short shorts, Converse high tops, his luxurious Afro blowing slightly back as he elevated, and the red, white, & blue ball of the ABA held in his massive hand so it looked like a grapefruit as he prepared to ascend to the hoop to wreak utter devastation on the opposition, and leave the earthbound mortals unable to do anything except gape in awe.

If you weren't following pro hoops at the time, you simply can't imagine the excitement generated when Dr. J, the ABA legend, moved from the New York Nets to the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers before the 1976-77 season. Remember that games were rarely televised back then, so most of America had only heard tales of the graceful 6-7 forward with the big hands and the gravity-defying artistry. When folks first saw Dr. J, their eyes popped: It seemed as if he could temporarily suspend himself in air while coasting from one side of the basket to the other. For me, the Doctor is and will always remain the most stylish of athletes.  The rare cat who made it look easy, even though it isn’t; a creative soul who showed you could showcase your individual gifts and still be part of a team; and the embodiment of that often abused word — FLAVOR.   While I respect the fact that a lot of those who came after — MJ, Dominique, Kobe, LeBron, Vince Carter etc. — can perhaps elevate higher and dunk harder– none possess the flow and graceful moves of the Doc.  It is this, and this alone, that made Julius seem that he had tapped into the life force of the universe– hence his Tao.

Also, unlike a lot of his followers in the sport– Dr. J was not demonstrative after obliterating an opponent with a devastating dunk.  Many years ago I was in the old Philadelphia Spectrum watching the Sixers play an otherwise meaningless February game against the Atlanta Hawks.  The Hawks had a fine power forward named Dan Roundfield who somehow was locked-up with Julius on the baseline.  Julius took two dribbles, one huge step, and then elevated.  Roundfield backed off and leaped in the air to meet him and attempt to cut off Dr. J’s approach to the hoop– however he did not have Erving’s gift of flight and Julius just kept flying higher and proceed to reverse dunk, with two hands, on Roundfield. This was a facial of legendary proportions, and one that would have elicited much screaming, jumping, and chest-bumping today.  Doc just nonchalantly ran up the court as if nothing had happened, even if we all knew that something epic had just taken place.  Once again, Tao in practice– totally feeling the freedom and power, yet not having to go crazy about it, being totally in the moment.

In today’s world where information is available 24/7, and you can see the latest highlight on 50 different channels at 50 different angles, it’s refreshing for me to remember that for a large part of his career Julius performed in the shadows of the ABA– before the  NBA merger and pre cable.  His exploits are almost comparable to gunslingers like Wyatt Earp or Doc Holliday, many knew of them but few had seen them with their own eyes.   The legendary exploits of the Doctor only grew in magnitude and mythology  as I got older, and they got more distant in time.

Μετά τα υψηλά επιτυχίες του σχολείου του, Χάουαρντ επέλεξε να παραιτηθεί από το κολλέγιο και δήλωσε συμμετοχή  για το ΝΒΑ ντραφτ του 2004  εμπνεόμενος  από το είδωλο Kevin Garnett ο οποίος είχε κάνει το ίδιο το 1995.όταν οι  Orlando Magic τον επιλεξαν στην  πρώτη θέση του ντάφτ   πήρε τον αριθμό 12 για τη φανέλα του, εν μέρει επειδή ήταν η αντιστροφή του Garnett του 21, όταν έπαιξε για τους Μινεσότα Τιμπεργουλβς. Την χρονια πριν επιλεγει ο Howard οι Μagic είχαν πετύχει μονο 21 νίκες  και  ο NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady ειχε μετακομίσει στους Rockets .Ο  Howard, ομως είχε μια εξαιρετική rookie χρονια   με μέσο όρο 12,0ποντους και 10ριμπαουντ ανα παιχνίδι   τ. Έγινε ο νεότερος παίκτης στην ιστορία του ΝΒΑ με μέσο όρο ένα διψήφιο αριθμο ποσοστών σε 2 στατιστικές κατηγορίες στην κανονική περίοδο.  Επίσης, έγινε ο νεότερος παίκτης στην ιστορία του ΝΒΑ με μέσο όρο τουλάχιστον 10,0 ριμπάουντ σε μια σεζόν και νεότερος παίκτης ΝΒΑ ποτέ να καταγράψει τουλάχιστον 20 ριμπάουντ σε ένα παιχνίδι. Ο  Howard σημασία στην μαγεία τονίστηκε, όταν έγινε ο πρώτος παίκτης στην ιστορία του ΝΒΑ κατευθείαν από το γυμνάσιο να ξεκινήσει όλα 82 παιχνίδια κατά τη διάρκεια της rookie σεζόν . Ο Brian Hill εντόπισε δύο τομείς στους οποίους Ο Χάουαρντ έπρεπέ να δουλέψει,  το παιχνίδι με πλατη, και την άμυνα  του.  Ο Χαουαρντ μπορει να  έπαιξε διστακτικά κατά καιρούς,την πρώτη  του χρονιά στο ΝΒΑ αλλα είχε  μια εντυπωσιακή σεζόν δευτεροετής φοιτητής. Στις 15 Νοεμβρίου 2005, σε ένα παιχνίδι κατά των Charlotte Bobcats, Χάουαρντ σημείωσε 21 πόντους και 20 ριμπάουντ, έγινε ο νεότερος παίκτης που θα σκοράρει 20 ή  περισσότερους  ποντους και να συγκεντρώσει 20 ή περισσότερα ριμπάουντ στο ίδιο παιχνίδι. Το 2008-09  ξεκίνησε καλά για Χάουαρντ. Δέκα παιχνίδια στην σεζόν,ήταν πρώτος  στο πρωτάθλημα σε μπλοκ ανά παιχνίδι (4.2), ακόμη και καταγάφει το πρώτο του triple-double: 30 πόντοι, 19 ριμπάουντ και 10 μπλοκ.  στη μέση της σεζόν, ο Χάουαρντ ήταν πρώτος στο πρωτάθλημα στα ριμπάουντ και μπλοκ, και ήταν μεταξύ των ηγετών πρωταθλήματος σε ποσοστό ευστοχίας . Ο συγκέντρωσε ένα ρεκόρ 3,1 εκατομμύρια ψήφους για να κερδίσει μια θέση στην αρχική πεντάδα  για το 2009 NBA All-Star Game. Στις 25 Μαρτίου 2009, Χάουαρντ οδήγησε στο Ορλάντο δεύτερο συνεχόμενο τίτλο της Southeast Division  και, τελικά, την τρίτη θέση για τα 2009 Playoffs ΝΒΑ με ρεκόρ 59-23.  Στις 21 Απριλίου 2009, έγινε ο νεότερος παίκτης ποτέ να κερδίσει το NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, την επίτευξη ενός στόχου που είχε θέσει για τον εαυτό του πριν από την έναρξη της σεζόν.  Η Μαγεία πήγε στα πλέι-οφ δεν τους τραυματίες αφετηρία φρουρά Jameer Nelson, και στον πρώτο γύρο κατά τη 76ers, Χάουαρντ καταγραφεί 24 πόντους και 24 ριμπάουντ σε Παιχνίδι 5 Ορλάντο να δώσει ένα 3-2 μολύβδου, πριν από τη μαγεία που κλείνουν τη σειρά σε έξι παιχνίδια Στο δεύτερο γύρο των πλέι οφ εναντίον των πρωταθλητων  Σελτικς  οι Magic έχασαν το προβάδισμα στο 5 παιχνίδι  και Howard αμφισβήτησε δημοσίως τον προπονητή του  Stan Van Gundy  για την τακτική και είπε ότι πρέπει να του δοθεί η μπάλα περισσότερο  στο παιχνίδι 6, πέτυχε 23 πόντους και 22 ριμπάουντ για να αναγκάσει τη σειρά σε πάει επτά παιχνίδια. Οι Magic νικήσαν την Βοστώνη, και στη συνέχεια νίκησαν τους  Κλίβελαν του Λεμπρον Τζεϊμς. Ο Howard εβαλε 40 ποντους και πηρε   14 ριμπάουντ  στο 6 παιχνίδι , οδηγώντας Ορλάντο στους πρωτους τελικους  NBA μετα απο  14 έτη.  Οι Λος Άντζελες Λέικερς πήρε τους δύο πρώτους εντός έδρας αγώνες για την δημιουργία 2 — 0 οδηγούσε στον τελικό, πριν από μια νίκη εντός έδρας από το Magic έφερε το σκορ στο 2-1. Στο παιχνίδι 4, παρ¨ολο την εξαιρετική εμφάνιση του Χάουαρντ με 21 ριμπάουντ και  9 μποκ σε ένα παιχνίδι, οι Magic εχασαν το παιχνίδι και στην συνέχεια και το πρωτάθλημα.

Retrocultura Monística.

Es bien sabido que la TV abierta chilena ha evolucionado (o involucionado) en forma dramática en las últimas décadas. El rating se ha convertido en el Dios a quien todos rinden culto en aquel mundillo. Sin una teleaudiencia aceptable un programa está condenado a desaparecer, ya que no entrega dividendos. Este fenómeno sin duda ha contribuido a la desaparición casi completa de las franjas infantiles de la tarde, llámense monos animados.

Hace un par de días, en una de las innumerables juntas con mis amigotes de siempre, surgió la reflexión sobre el hecho de que ya no había franjas infantiles o con dibujos animados, en ninguno de los 5 canales principales de TV abierta. Ahora todo es Yingo, Diario de Eva, Caso Cerrado o telenovelas; aunque no tengo nada contra los que ven dichos programitas, llamo a todos aquellos que fueron niños durante la década de los ‘90 aprox., a recordar a aquellos monos que marcaron nuestra época.

Para comenzar con esta seguidilla de comentarios, quisiera rendir homenaje al canal pionero en la transmisión de dibujos animados de calidad (principalmente animación japonesa o animé).  Chilevisión -antiguamente RTU- rompió varios esquemas y el cartuchismo sobre lo que se conocía antiguamente como dibujos animados, instaurando, en primer lugar, el género de las series animadas que, al contrario de otros monos como Tom y Jerry o el Show de Bugs Bunny, por ejemplo, tenían una hilación entre episodios y no era una aventura con inicio, desarrollo y término en un mismo capítulo.

Otro aspecto novedoso de estas series era la temática. Muchos eran derechamente para adultos, con tramas densísimas como Remi, cuya vida no era más que un calvarioL, ultraviolentas como Evangelion, donde la sangre de los EVA y los ángeles regaba las calles, o con temas que los más conservadores considerarían obscenos como la promiscuidad u homosexualidad, como se ve en series como Mikami, Lady Oscar (el nombre lo dice todo), o Ranma ½ que, a pesar de ser tratado en forma más o menos humorística, mostraba pechugas igual a las 4 de la tarde (menos mal que los viejos del Consejo Nacional de Televisión no veían tele a esa hora…juajuá).

El otro hito que marcó este canal, y el más importante para mí, fue la incorporación de dibujos animados dentro del horario de las 22 hrs. Algo absolutamente impensado. Así, a mediados de los años ’90, tuvimos la oportunidad de ver cómodamente sentados frente al televisor, una película considerada una obra maestra del animé por los expertos, me refiero a AKIRA, la historia del pandillero Kaneda y su amigo Tetsuo, quien se involucra en un proyecto secreto del gobierno japonés llamado AKIRA. Por supuesto, la historia no es fácil de digerir así como así, dada su elevada complejidad, sumada a la extrema violencia de varias escenas y una que otra pechuga al aire por ahí. Cabe destacar que esto fue replicado más adelante por TVN al exhibir en sus pantallas la película animada Street Fighter 2.

Mi punto aquí es hacer notar que, a excepción de algunas series emblemáticas como Robotech (Canal 13), o Dragon Ball (Mega), la mayoría de los buenos monos que marcaron nuestra niñez fueron transmitidos por RTU o Chilevisión. Basta acordarse de El Galáctico, Sailor Moon, Los Caballeros del Zodíaco, Samurai X y hasta la moderna Pokémon.

Lo cierto es que ya no hay tiempo ni espacio en el ajetreado mundo televisivo para una franja de monos entre semana, siendo posible ver series decentes (a saber: Liga de la Justicia y afines) solo los fines de semanas, con suerte. Es posible que una de las razones sea que los dibujos animados han sido erróneamente encasillados en el segmento infantil por la gente tradicionalista y cerrada de mente, que no concibe que sea un género transversal que podría dar tantos o más dividendos que una telenovela mejicana o venezolana entre los más adultos. Tristemente, esto parece no cambiar. Me habría gustado que mi hijo creciera viendo, en vez de los potos de Yingo y la Muralla Infernal, historias de esfuerzo y autosuperación en torno al deporte, como los Supercampeones o Slam Dunk. Los viejos tiempos no volverán, sin embargo, no es malo echarles una repasada de vez en cuando.

Cara Planet Manga, sono una lettrice che nell’attuale panorama di manga è una sorta di emarginata. Sono troppo vecchia per appassionarmi ai primi amori fra i banchi di scuola alla “Sogni di Lampone”, troppo scafata per emozionarmi davanti ai patetismi dei malati di cuore di “Il mio primo amore per te”, troppo cresciuta per andare in brodo di giuggiole davanti ai tenebrosi succhiasangue di “Vampire Knight”… E con gli esempi potrei continuare.
Gli shojo di qualità in Italia raramente vendono qualcosa, e i josei quasi non hanno speranza (fortuna che almeno c’e’ “Tokyo Style”, che tuttavia non è josei bensì seinen!).

Non siete una onlus e da un punto di vista commerciale fate benissimo a pubblicare ciò che tira di più fra le ragazzine (e fra le donne che ancora sono bimbe dentro…) .
Pero’ non pensate che almeno un *piccolo* angolino dovreste riservarlo per le lettrici cresciute, non solo anagraficamente, ma anche nei gusti?

Dopo le ottime scelte di pubblicare Chica Umino e Mari Okazaki, posso aspettarmi qualcos’altro di simile rivolto al mio target?

Carissima, innanzitutto grazie per la bellissima mail. Penso che la cosa sulla quale si debba porre attenzione, sia la tua genuina passione per la lettura di fumetti, per le atmosfere fantastiche in cui sanno trasportarci, e per l’irrinunciabile desiderio di non smettere di sognare, neanche quando non si è più ragazzini. Io e te (dato che condividiamo più o meno la stessa età) siamo cresciuti a pane, fumetti e cartoni animati, è grazie a ciò che possiamo dire di avere un’anima ancora giovane e capace di infiammarsi per le sue passioni. Penso che le nuove generazioni abbiano tutto il diritto di godere del nostro stesso privilegio, con serie romantiche, giovani, capaci di interpretare i loro problemi quotidiani di adolescenti; tuttavia il Fumetto non è solo questo, lo sappiamo bene, e ci sforzeremo nel nostro piccolo di fornire sempre un’offerta variegata e contenente anche, come lo chiami tu, un giusto “angolino” di maturità. Credo che già a partire dall’imminente Lucca Comics troverai qualcosa di tuo gradimento!

Ciao Matteo, se non ricordo male questo titolo ha debuttato a fine aprile 2009, quindi è ancora un po’ presto per parlarne dato il poco materiale disponibile… Tuttavia Tsutomu Nihei è un autore brillante e molto amato, sarebbe bello riuscire a portare in Italia anche questa sua opera così “di rottura” rispetto alla sua produzione precedente! Per il momento non è previsto, ma vediamo che succederà in futuro…

Leggo questo manga a casa di un mio amico. All’inizio non mi prendeva molto, ma man mano che procedeva l’ho trovato sempre più bello, tanto che mi sarei deciso per l’acquisto, se non che la serie è monca. Non tutti gli albi sono disponibili.  Guardando sullo shop ho visto che ci
sono varie edizioni e ristampe. Sono esauriti i volumi 1,2,10,11,12. Alcuni sono stati ristampati, ma mancano ancora i volumi 11 e 12. Siccome non voglio una serie zoppa, vorrei sapere se questi verranno ristampati  o meno.

Ciao Andrea, nella mail non è specificato, ma suppongo tu stia parlando de L’IMMORTALE. Finora abbiamo ristampato tutti i numeri esauriti o precedentemente editi da Comic Art e, quasi di certo, faremo altrettanto per i restanti numeri 11 e 12. Ti chiedo di avere ancora un po’ di pazienza, perché non siamo ancora in grado di darti una data precisa, ma sicuramente se ne riparlerà nel 2010.

Innanzitutto complimenti per i fumetti che ci fate leggere! Avete molti titoli davvero interessanti.
Passo adesso alla domanda che in questo periodo mi assilla moltissimo:

- so che in Giappone il 3 di Luglio è uscito l’artbook n°2 di Naruto, quello con le immagini del manga (e non dell’anime!). Ho trovato molto bello il primo artbook, l’unico finora uscito in Italia, e mi chiedevo se pubblicherete anche questo dedicato a Shippuden. Spero vivamente di sì. Ci stavate già pensando? Più o meno quanto dovremo aspettare?

Una domanda a bruciapelo: prenderete mai in considerazione la possibilità di pubblicare Ichi the Killer del maestro Hideo Yamamoto, già famoso per Homunculus?
Come titolo, se preannunciato con una buona dose di pubblicità, potrebbe attirare non poco pubblico; non sono un commercialista, ma l’autore, qui, si è già fatto una piccola schiera di ammiratori di un certo grado ed in patria è concluso. In Italia il film è già uscito presso la Dynit doppiato in italiano quindi perché non arraffarsi anche il manga? No?
Ah! In caso di una risposta positiva (anche se la vedo difficile), perché non stamparlo su una buona edizione, ma a prezzo moderato? 7 € a volume sarebbe come fermarlo prima ancora della stampa.
Sì? Davvero? No? Vabbè grazie lo stesso.

P.s. che fine hanno fatto le belle edizioni Lone Wolf & Cub Style?
P.p.s. perché usate il contagocce nelle stampe e ristampe di opere realmente interessanti (Ikigami, Hunter x Hunter, 20th Century Boys, Real, Vagabond, L’Immortale)?  Insomma pagare 20 € un manga perché non lo si trova in fumetteria mi sembra esagerato. Non trovate? Con la Star Comics e altre case editrici questo inconveniente non è mai avvenuto.
P.p.p.s. se ci tenete a mantenere un buon rapporto con la clientela provate a farvi sentire pi spesso su Animeclick.

Che io sappia non è previsto. Non so dirti se perché non interessa o perché si sta ragionando sull’opportunità di proporre in Italia un prodotto così particolare ed esplicito.
Su tipologia di edizione e prezzi, non sono la persona più adatta per risponderti, ma a rigor di logica suppongo che vengano definiti tenendo conto della “vendibilità” del prodotto… Ad esempio, da LONE WOLF&CUB è lecito attendersi un buon riscontro, anche nella peggiore delle ipotesi è difficile ritenerlo un fumetto di nicchia, data l’importanza storica che ha da sempre vantato all’interno della cultura popolare mondiale; ecco perché proporlo ad un prezzo vantaggioso non è considerato rischioso in termini spese-ricavi… Si tratta di un masterpiece! Tuttavia non per tutti i titoli si può fare questo discorso.
Per le ristampe idem, si cerca di proporle tenendo conto degli equilibri commerciali. Mi sembra comunque che negli ultimi tempi si stiano facendo parecchie ristampe, e c’è tutta l’intenzione di proseguire sulla stessa strada anche nel 2010

Gentile redazione,
spero che avrete un briciolo di tempo per leggere la mia mail… Ci provo da tempo ma speriamo che questa sia la volta buona! Scrivo per chiedervi se avete intenzione di continuare la pubblicazione di Slam Dunk Deluxe (a mio parere superlativa, spero tanto che riprenda) e inoltre se avete in programma ristampe per la serie Vagabond Deluxe. Inoltre alcuni volumi della linea Ultimate sono esauriti e sembrano non siamo mai esistiti! (dico sul serio!!!): il caso più eclatante è il volume Ultimate Devil&Elektra. Su ebay, nelle fumetterie, niente, nessuno ce l’ha manco a pagarlo a peso d’oro (il che non sarebbe male dato che di sicuro un volumetto così raro sarà senz’altro come una mosca bianca). Per il resto, una richiesta che spero possiate almeno ascoltare (non si sa mai…): potreste fare una ristampa di Spawn? Ho notato che è l’unico fumetto, escluso qualche volume speciale uscito di recente, niente, nessuna ristampa… Mi chiedo come mai i famosi classici Marvel vengano pubblicati in edizioni collection e la saga di Spawn (la quale penso sia senz’ altro di un pregio notevole!!) manco una minuscola idea per noi giovani lettori di fumetti (ok ok ho 19 anni e i fumetti sono una mia grande passione, perché alcuni, e sottolineo alcuni, sono Arte). Chiudo salutandovi e ringraziandovi per il vostro spledido lavoro, sul serio… non so se leggerete mai questa mail, ma l’idea di averci provato è già una soddisfazione. Takehiko Inoue – Viz – 2009 – 31 volumes

I had to get out of Real mode when I started this volume.  The first page has a sort of fight going on while the boys are playing basketball (or, at least, there is a basketball in the first panel, and it is clear they are on the court), and I was initially very shocked that they weren’t in wheelchairs.  Not that much of that goes on in Real, but still.

I was very amused by how the fight between Hanamichi and Miyagi resolved itself.  This series has a knack for switching between the tense, action-y scenes and goofy humor.  I love the humor, and I love Hanamichi, which is important for volumes like this where the only thing going on is a long fight scene.  But I loved the long fight scene, too.  The characters weighed the pros and cons of getting in a fight, and when the punks that broke into the gym started hitting the girls and the guys with glasses, that’s when they decided to rumble.  I liked it.

I also like that it’s not all about basketball.  I have only read a handful of sports manga, but even Eyeshield 21 or something like Hikaru no Go, which are great series I count amongst my favorites and series that have far more going for them than just the sport, don’t take breaks as long as this series between games or training/whatever.  It makes Slam Dunk a much more interesting read, even considering how old it is.  Its characters still aren’t up to Hikaru no Go or Eyeshield 21 levels, but they’re well on their way.

The past month’s been hectic for us at AAR.

Firstly, we released the debut single by math pop quartet Pharaohs , which recieved awesome reviews across the board. You can pick the whole thing on iTunes for 79p a track.

Also, Brummie skate punks All Or Nothing re-recorded their 2 tracks for the split CD with Chaos Days. The tracks sound so good, can’t wait for everyone to hear them! AON are also gonna be playing the Birmingham Slam Dunk festival alongside Funeral For A Friend, Fightstar, Kids In Glass Houses and a whole bunch of awesome bands.

Over the past week or so we’ve been sending out CDs for the Pharaohs EP – We’ve Tried Nothing And We’re All Out Of Ideas (7th November), and Tell It To The Marines debut digital single Fireworks (26th October).

On top of that I started Uni, which as well as being absolutely awesome, it’s currently taking up a lot of my time. I’ve not been as active as i should have been, but hopefully i’ll be able to multitask again soon!
