It’s a simple concept: one or more persons obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies with record sleeve(s) causing an illusion. Here’s some examples:

Some people get really creative and precise with these. I love the ones that match up to the album art, but match the rest of it with something unexpected.

Vor kurzem stieß ich im Internet auf den Fototrend Sleeveface.
Diese inzwischen zur großen Bewegung gewordene Idee zweier junger Briten entstand 2007 spontan auf einer Party, bei der sie sich mit Plattenhüllen vor dem Gesicht fotografieren ließen. Das Prinzip ist simpel, eine üppige Vinylsammlung wäre vorteilhaft.

Auf sleeveface.com finden sich ziemlich viele bekannte Gesichte und sehenswerte Bilder.
Der Kreativität sind keine Grenzen gesetzt. Eine abgewandelte Form dieser “Kunst” in bewegten Bildern habe ich bei Youtube gefunden. Hello!

Connaissez-vous les sleevefaces ?

C’est le concept de prendre des pochettes de vinyles et les mettre dans un contexte réaliste en partant du visuel frontispice. L’idée est simple, mais le processus est compliqué! Chaque mise en scène prenait au moins 45 minutes à scénariser!!! J’ai participé au shooting un peu malgré moi puisque je rentrais du bureau à ce moment-là et mon copain était en train de travailler avec l’équipe de Cyberpresse [ Jean-Christophe Laurence, journaliste et Martin Chamberland, photographe ] pour ce projet. Hoje fui graciosamente recebido pelo baterista José Brasil no recanto de seu lar. José Brasil e sua banda psicodélica Apokalypsis foram um dos mais importantes nomes do rock alternativo paulistano na década de 70. Sua história e experiência de vida se confundem com a história do movimento hippie brasileiro. Mote perfeito para um excelente livro.

Pois bem, no final da entrevista eu e Catarina Cicarelli ganhamos de presente um super vinil AUTOGRÁFADO da banda UHF, um dos projetos de Brasil com sua simpática mulher Silvia Barreto, no fim dos anos 80.

Quem é apaixonado por rock psicodélico deve conferir o myspace do Apokalypsis.

Eine weitere Entdeckung die ich vor ein paar Wochen über Twitter gemacht habe sind Sleevefaces. Dabei handelt es sich um ein  Internet Phänomen bei dem sich Menschen mit einem Schallplattencover in Sezne setzten, das Ergebnis fotografieren und veröffentlichen. Die bekannteste Seite ist Sleeveface.com welche von den “Erfindern” der Sleevefaces betrieben wird. Diese haben auch bereits ein 200 Seiten starkes Sleeveface-Buch veröffentlicht.

Die Idee ist wirklich witzig und es ist schön anzusehen wie die Covers in Szene gesetzt wurden. Schade das mit den CDs die Covers derart geschrumpft sind. Die Schallplattencover konnten noch viel mehr gestalterischen Spielraum bieten…
