Jarvis told Steve Lamacq: ‘I’m very much looking forward to it. I think Sunday afternoons have got a special atmosphere, and I will be doing something that I think is appropriate to that — or maybe inappropriate, I don’t know! Revamped iMac

Apple Inc. beat Wall Street expectations earlier this week when they announced their Q4′09 earnings. Considered to be the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, Apple Inc. simply asks “What recession?” Today, Apple Inc. continued their spectacular October when they announced several new products across their computer line.

Mac Mini Server

The Mac Mini was one of the computer models that got an upgrade. The $599 model got a spec bump with a faster processor (now 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, up from 2GHz), twice the memory (now 2GB, up from 1GB), and a larger hard drive (now 160GB, up from 120GB). The $799 has the 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM (up from 2GB) but the same 320GB hard drive. Both price points still have the GeForce 9400M GPU and 8x SuperDrive. In addition to the upgrades to the Mac Mini line, there is now a “Server Edition” of the Mac Mini that forgoes the 8x SuperDrive and instead packs in TWO 500GB hard drives. This $999 model packs a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, and GeForce 9400M GPU. Snow Leopard Server is included of course.

Next, Apple updated the iMac line with two screen size choices (21.5 inches or 27 inches) that are 16:9 displays and are all-aluminum bodies. Perhaps the most intriguing announcement today is the new Magic Mouse (no longer “Mighty”) for $69. It is the first multitouch wireless mouse on the market meaning you use your fingers to scroll, swipe, and click. The Magic Mouse is supposed to last 4 months on AA batteries.

Apple also revamped their remote with a new aluminum finish that is kinda like the bastard child of the iPod Nano and the old iPod Shuffle. It can control your iPod, iPhone, and/or Mac for $19.

Lastly, Apple updated the Airport Extreme and Time Capsule for better performance.

“Come al solito Alitalia arriva per ultima, la scelta del low cost è tardiva e il settore è saturo: ci sono già altri vettori che hanno un peso e una struttura rodata in questo segmento di mercato”. Queste le parole del responsabile per la Lombardia dell’Italia dei Diritti Giuseppe Criseo all’annuncio di Alitalia di destinare a Malpensa solo i voli low cost che voleranno con il marchio Air One. Decisione che vede contrari sia il presidente dell´Unione del commercio Carlo Sangalli, sia Carlo Porcari – capogruppo Pd in Lombardia – che i tassisti che speravano nella possibilità di rilancio internazionale di Malpensa in vista dell’Expo, aspettativa annullata dal fatto che si tratterà sempre più di un aeroporto low cost e sempre meno di uno hub internazionale, a meno fino a quando non si attuerà la tanto agognata liberalizzazione degli slot che consentirebbe l’accesso alle compagnie straniere rendendo possibile il rilancio internazionale dello scalo. Também conhecida como “motherboard” ou “mainboard”, a placa-mãe é, basicamente, a responsável pela interconexão de todas as peças que formam o computador. O HD, a memória, o teclado, o mouse, a placa de vídeo, enfim, praticamente todos os dispositivos, precisam ser conectados à placa-mãe para formar o computador. Este artigo mostrará as características desse item tão importante.Visão geral das placas-mãe

As placas-mãe são desenvolvidas de forma que seja possível conectar todos os dispositivos quem compõem o computador. Para isso, elas oferecem conexões para o processador, para a memória RAM, para o HD, para os dispositivos de entrada e saída, entre outros.

A foto a seguir exibe uma placa-mãe. Trata-se de um modelo Soyo SY-KT880 Dragon 2. As letras apontam para os principais itens do produto, que são explicados nos próximos parágrafos. Cada placa-mãe possui características distintas, mas todas devem possibilitar a conexão dos dispositivos que serão citados no decorrer deste texto.

Item A – processador

O item A mostra o local onde o processador deve ser conectado. Também conhecido como socket, esse encaixe não serve para qualquer processador, mas sim para um modelo (ou para modelos) específico. Cada tipo de processador tem características que o diferenciam de outros modelos. Essas diferenças consistem na capacidade de processamento, na quantidade de memória cache, na tecnologia de fabricação usada, no consumo de energia, na quantidade de terminais (as “perninhas”) que o processador tem, entre outros. Assim sendo, a placa-mãe deve ser desenvolvida para aceitar determinados processadores. A motherboard vista acima, por exemplo, é compatível com os processadores Duron, Athlon XP e Sempron (todos da fabricante AMD) que utilizam a forma de conexão conhecida por “Socket A”. Assim sendo, processadores que utilizam outros sockets, como o Intel Pentium 4 ou o AMD Athlon 64 não se conectam a esta placa.

Por isso, na aquisição de um computador, deve-se escolher primeiro o processador e, em seguida, verificar quais as placas-mãe que são compatíveis. À medida que novos processadores vão sendo lançados, novos sockets vão surgindo.

É importante frisar que, mesmo quando um processador utiliza um determinado socket, ele pode não ser compatível com a placa-mãe relacionada. Isso porque o chip pode ter uma capacidade de processamento acima da suportada pela motherboard. Por isso, essa questão também deve ser verificada no momento da montagem de um computador.

Item B – Memória RAM

O item B mostra os encaixes existentes para a memória RAM. Esse conector varia conforme o tipo. As placas-mãe mais antigas usavam o tipo de memória popularmente conhecido como SDRAM. No entanto, o padrão mais usado atualmente é o DDR (Double Data Rate), que também recebe a denominação de SDRAM II (termo pouco usado). A placa-mãe da imagem acima possui duas conexões (ou slots) para encaixe de memórias DDR.

As memórias também trabalham em velocidades diferentes, mesmo quando são do mesmo tipo. A placa-mãe mostrada acima aceita memórias DDR que trabalham a 266 MHz, 333 MHz e 400 MHz. Supondo que a motherboard só aceitasse velocidades de até 333 MHz, um pente de memória DDR que funciona a 400 MHz só trabalharia a 333 MHz nessa placa, o máximo suportado.

Em relação à capacidade, as memórias mais antigas ofereciam 4 MB, 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, etc. Hoje, já é possível encontrar memórias que vão de 128 MB a 1 GB de capacidade. Enquanto você lê este texto, pode ser que o limite atual já esteja maior.

Item C – Slots de expansão

Para que seja possível conectar placas que adicionam funções ao computador, é necessário fazer uso de slots de expansão. Esses conectores permitem a conexão de vários tipos de dispositivos. Placas de vídeo, placas de som, placas de redes, modems, etc, são conectados nesses encaixes. Os tipos de slots mais conhecidos atualmente são o PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) – item C1 -, o AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) – item C2 -, o CNR (Communications Network Riser) – item C3 – e o PCI Express (PCI-E). As placas-mãe mais antigas apresentavam ainda o slot ISA (Industry Standard Architecture).

A placa-mãe vista acima possui um slot AGP (usado exclusivamente por placas de vídeo), um slot CNR (usado para modems) e cinco slots PCI (usados por placas de rede, placas de som, modems PCI, etc). A tendência atual é que tanto o slot AGP quanto o slot PCI sejam substituídos pelo padrão PCI Express, que oferece mais recursos e possibilidades.

Item D – Plug de alimentação

O item D mostra o local onde deve-se encaixar o cabo da fonte que leva energia elétrica à placa-mãe. Para isso, tanto a placa-mãe como a fonte de alimentação devem ser do mesmo tipo. Existem, atualmente, dois padrões para isso: o ATX e o AT (este último saiu de linha, mas ainda é utilizado). A placa-mãe da foto usa o padrão ATX. É importante frisar que a placa-mãe sozinha consegue alimentar o processador, as memórias e a grande maioria dos dispositivos encaixados nos slots. No entanto, HDs, unidades de CD e DVD, drive de disquete e cooler (um tipo de ventilador acoplado ao processador que serve para manter sua temperatura em limites aceitáveis de uso) devem receber conectores individuais de energia.

O item E2 mostra as entradas padrão IDE (Intergrated Drive Electronics) onde devem ser encaixados os cabos que ligam HDs e unidades de CD/DVD à placa-mãe. Esses cabos, chamados de “flat cables”, podem ser de 40 vias ou 80 vias (grossamente falando, cada via seria um “fiozinho”), sendo este último mais eficiente. Cada cabo pode suportar até dois HDs ou unidades de CD/DVD, totalizando até quatro dispositivos nas entradas IDE. Note também que E1 aponta para o conector onde deve ser encaixado o cabo que liga o drive de disquete à motherboard.

Existe também, um tipo de HD que não segue o padrão IDE, mas sim o SATA (Serial ATA), como mostra a figura a seguir.

Item F – BIOS e bateria

O item F2 aponta para o chip Flash-ROM e o F1, para a bateria que o alimenta. Esse chip contém um pequeno software chamado BIOS (Basic Input Output System), que é responsável por controlar o uso do hardware do computador e manter as informações relativas à hora e data. Cabe ao BIOS, por exemplo, emitir uma mensagem de erro quando o teclado não está conectado. Na verdade, quando isso ocorre, o BIOS está trabalhando em conjunto com o Post, um software que testa os componentes de hardware após o computador ser ligado.

Através de uma interface denominada Setup, também presente na Flash-ROM, é possível alterar configurações de hardware, como velocidade do processador, detecção de discos rígidos, desativação de portas USB, etc.

Como mostra a imagem abaixo, placas-mãe antigas usavam um chip maior para o BIOS.

Item G – Conectores de teclado, mouse, USB, impressora e outros

O item G aponta para a parte onde ficam localizadas as entradas para a conexão do mouse (tanto serial, quanto PS/2), teclado, portas USB, porta paralela (usada principalmente por impressoras), além de outros que são disponibilizados conforme o modelo da placa-mãe. Esses itens ficam posicionados de forma que, quando a motherboard for instalada em um gabinete, tais entradas fiquem imediatamente acessíveis pela parte traseira deste. A imagem abaixo mostra um outro modelo de placa-mãe da Soyo, a SY-P4VGM, desenvolvida para o processador Intel Pentium 4, que exibe esses conectores através de outro ângulo:

A disposição de entradas vista acima é semelhante em toda placa-mãe que segue o padrão ATX. No antigo padrão AT, esse posicionamento é de outra forma e alguns conectores são diferentes.

H – Furos de encaixe

Para evitar danos, a placa-mãe deve ser devidamente presa ao gabinete. Isso é feito através de furos (item H) que permitem o encaixe de espaçadores e parafusos. Para isso, é necessário que a placa-mãe seja do mesmo padrão do gabinete. Se este for AT, a placa-mãe deverá também ser AT. Se for ATX (o padrão atual), a motherboard também deverá ser, do contrário o posicionamento dos locais de encaixe serão diferentes para a placa-mãe e para o gabinete.

I – Chipset

O chipset é um chip responsável pelo controle de uma série de itens da placa-mãe, como acesso à memória, barramentos e outros. Principalmente nas placas-mãe atuais, é bastante comum que existam dois chips para esses controles: Ponte Sul (I1) e Ponte Norte (I2):

Ponte Sul (South Bridge): este geralmente é responsável pelo controle de dispositivos de entrada e saída, como as interfaces IDE ou SATA. Placas-mãe que possuem som onboard (visto adiante), podem incluir o controle desse dispositivo também na Ponte Sul;

Ponte Norte (North Bridge): este chip faz um trabalho “mais pesado” e, por isso, geralmente requer um dissipador de calor para não esquentar muito. Repare que na foto da placa-mãe em que esse chip é apontado, ele, na verdade, está debaixo de uma estrutura metálica. Essa peça é dissipador. Cabe à Ponte Norte as tarefas de controle do FSB (Front Side Bus – velocidade na qual o processador se comunica com a memória e com componentes da placa-mãe), da freqüência de operação da memória, do barramento AGP, etc.

Os chipsets não são desenvolvidos pelas fabricantes das placas-mãe e sim por empresas como VIA Technologies, SiS e Intel (esta é uma exceção, já que fabrica motherboards também). Assim sendo, é comum encontrar um mesmo chipset em modelos concorrentes de placa-mãe.

Placas-mãe onboard

“Onboard” é o termo empregado para distinguir placas-mãe que possuem um ou mais dispositivos de expansão integrados. Por exemplo, há modelos que têm placa de vídeo, placa de som, modem ou placa de rede na própria placa-mãe. A motherboard estudada neste artigo possui placa de som (C-Media CMI9761A 6-channel) e placa de rede (VIA VT6103 10/100 Mbps Ethernet) integradas, ou melhor, onboard. Por esta razão, os conectores desses dispositivos ficam juntos às entradas mostradas no item G, visto anteriormente.

A vantagem de se utilizar modelos onboard é a redução de custo do computador, uma vez que deixa-se de comprar determinados dispositivos porque estes já estão incluídos na placa-mãe. No entanto, é necessário ter cuidado: quanto mais itens onboard uma placa-mãe tiver, mais o desempenho do computador será comprometido. Isso porque o processador acaba tendo que executar as tarefas dos dispositivos integrados. Na maioria dos casos, placas de som e rede onboard não influenciam significantemente no desempenho, mas placas de vídeo e modems sim.

As placas de vídeo, mesmo os modelos mais simples, possuem um chip gráfico que é responsável pela geração de imagens. Este, por sua vez, requer memória para tal, principalmente quando trata imagens em 3D. Uma placa de vídeo onboard, mesmo quando acompanhada de um chip gráfico integrado, acaba “tomando atenção” do processador, além de usar parte da memória RAM.

Se um computador é comprado para uso em uma loja ou em alguma aplicação que não requer muito desempenho, a compra de um computador com placa-mãe onboard pode ser viável. No entanto, quem deseja uma máquina para jogos e aplicações mais pesadas deve pensar seriamente em adquirir uma placa-mãe “offboard”, isto é, com nenhum item integrado, ou no máximo, com placa de som ou rede onboard.

Concluindo

Existe uma série de empresas que fabricam placas-mãe. As marcas mais conhecidas são: Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, Soyo, PC Chips, MSI, Intel e ECS. Apesar da maioria dessas fabricantes disponibilizarem bons produtos, é recomendável pesquisar sobre um modelo de seu interesse para conhecer suas vantagens e desvantagens. Para isso, basta digitar o nome do modelo em sites de busca. Geralmente, o resultado mostra fóruns de discussão onde os participantes debatem sobre a placa-mãe em questão. A pesquisa vale a pena, afinal, a placa-mãe é um item de importância extrema ao computador.

Since my girlfriends would have a coronary if I actually named them, I’ll just give you our names that we developed one year when we watched “Malibu’s Most Wanted.”  Since we are all Mom’s and can’t seem to get out of the freaking kitchen . . . you may sense a theme here.

I am “White Top” AKA Wonder Bread, Sunbeam, Goya Loaf. They seem to think that I have lead a conservative life . . . I let them think what they want as I spread my three fingers and bang it on my chest like I am a “bro in the hood.”

Bang, bang, bang (three fingers) “White Bread, yo?”

Yeah, that, popping a couple of my ”Move Free” glucosamine/chondroitin pills and my hair spray makes it all very convincing…

Then there is “Cinnabon.” As you can imagine she’s a beautifully tanned mother of two, and makes her hand into “C” shape and whacks it on her chest. “Cinnabon, Buya!” 

Then of course, we can’t forget “Bagel.” She hysterically tries to form a “B” shape with her fingers to bang on her chest.  And, then groans, “Bagel. You guys, I got a crummy name.”

“Oy! Such is life Heidi Goldbaum,” not really her name, “You be Bagel, and don’t give us any shen-agle!”

And, then lastly . . . There is “Buttertop.”  She doesn’t have to make any hand signals at all, because frankly there’s no room left on her chest. She has the most beautiful store-bought breasts any woman (or man) could hope for.  So yes, she is “Buttertop.” And she doesn’t have to do a thing to just stand there with that perfectly shaped shelf of breasts.

You could put a plate of sandwiches on those breasts…

So, it’s basically us four — White Bread, Cinnabon, Bagel and Buttertop, and we try our best to terrorize Vegas within an inch of it’s questionable life.

A principios de este año expuse aquí mi idea de montar un circuito de slot con las pistas de Scalextric que tengo y unas cuantas más que adquirí entre material nuevo y usado. Quería que este año no terminara sin tener esa atracción lista y lo he conseguido.

El pasado jueves conseguí (previo puenteado enganchando los cables en las lengüetas debido a lo malo que soy soldando,  y tras haber lijado las pistas) que el circuito quedará listo para ser utilizado, pero su aspecto no era el más adecuado porque el color de algunas de las pistas estaba bastante desgatado y la utilización del producto de limpieza de los carriles había decolorado algunos tramos como se ve en la fotografía.

La solución la encontré en un foro de sloteros donde se explicaba que para devolver la apariencia original a una pista no había nada mejor que ¡el betún para los zapatos! Efectivamente, un bote de crema líquida negra para calzado, con su esponja aplicadora es ideal para pintar las pistas y restaurarles su color natural. Además el líquido que pueda quedar en los carriles no afecta en nada a la circulación de corriente por lo que no hay que ser excesivamente cuidadoso aunque estéticamente es mejor no ensuciar demasiado.

Como se puede comprobar, el resultado final es más que aceptable y a los que nos gusta esto nos sube la adrenalina con tan solo la visión de una pista lista para ser recorrida de cabo a rabo a toda velocidad con el dedo en el gatillo del mando.

El estreno oficial lo hicimos el viernes cuando Daniel volvió de su entrenamiento de hoquei. La pista estaba lista para él y no desaprovechó su oportunidad. Tampoco lo hizo el sábado ni el domingo, días en los que también dio buena cuenta del circuito mientras nosotros dos participábamos de forma alterna en alguna de las competiciones (con esto quiero decir no que a veces participáramos y otras no, sino que participábamos o bien Yosi o bien yo en la carrera junto al Peque).Quienes han visto el circuito terminado coinciden en que ha quedado bien, y los de casa estamos muy contentos con él. Tanto que Yosi quiere aderezarlo decorándolo con escenografía hecha en casa.

Ese es su proyecto, el mío ya está terminado.

I dag kørte jeg så den samme vej med en veninde for at se hvor jeg var endt, og lur mig om jeg ikke lige var nået ned til en vej som jeg meget vel kendte og kunne være kommet hjem ad da jeg så besluttede mig at vende om, ind ved et kæmpe creepy slot :O

Motherboard: disebut juga mainboard atau mobo. ini komponen yang paling penting dan paling berpengaruh versi VE. Mobo memberikan opsi pilihan spesifikasi bagi komputer anda, untuk itu maka penting memilih mobo yang sesuai dengan rencana kapasitas komputer yang akan dibangun nantinya (i prefer to say that way than “dibuat”).

Spesifikasi mobo yang perlu diperhitungkan:

1. Socket prossesor, ini yang menentukan prosessor jenis apa yang dapat di support oleh motherboard. Biasanya sih yang jadi pertanyaan utama adalah “pengen pake platform Intel ato AMD?” Ya memang saat ini hanya dua prosessor ini yang ada di pasaran. Maybe anda mengerti kalo socket Intel dan AMD ya pasti beda secara beda produsen, tapi Intel dan AMD sendiri memiliki bermacam2 tipe prosessor, dan untuk itu diperlukan socket yang sesuai.

Saat ini Intel memiliki dua jenis socket, yakni LGA775 dan LGA1366. LGA775 adalah socket untuk processor mulai dari Intel Celeron, Pentium 4, Pentium D, Pentium Dual Core, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, Hingga Core 2 Quad. Sedangkan untuk LGA 1366 saat ini untuk intel i7. Oke masi ada satu lagi sih sebenernya, yakni untuk Intel Atom. Intel Atom ini embedded dengan mobo, jadi beli mobo udah dapet prosessornya so ga perlu dipikirin pake socket apa deh.

Perlu diketahui di sini mengenai socket Intel, bahwa meskipun socket tersebut support prosessor di atas, tapi tidak semua mobo support processor tersebut, nah itu ditentukan oleh chipset yang dipakai mobo, yang akan saya jelaskan setelah ini. Yang jelas perlu diketahui bahwa socket seperti LGA775 ini telah ada sejak hampir 3 generasi sebelum socket AM2+, so ga bisa dibilang payah juga.

Lanjut AMD, saat ini terdapat dua jenis socket juga, yakni AM2+ dan AM3. Pada dasarnya perbedaan utama dari socket ini ada pada daya dukung memory, AM2+ mendukung memory DDR2 dan AM3 mendukung memory DDR3. Socket AM2+ dapat digunakan untuk prosessor AM2+ dan juga AM3, tapi tidak sebaliknya. Hal ini dikarenakan prosessor AM2+ tidak memiliki dukungan terhadap memory DDR3. Beda dengan Intel, AMD sepertinya support semua prosessor yang ada selama sesuai/compatible dengan socket nya dan TDP (Thermal Design Power) maximum. Oke sebagai contoh ada beberapa mobo AMD yang TDP maximumnya terbatas, sehingga ga bisa dipake buat prosessor yang TDP nya besar (umumnya makin gede clock dan jumlah core nya makin gede TDP nya).

2. Chipset, pada dasarnya terdapat dua chip utama dalam mobo, yakni NorthBridge (NB) dan SouthBridge (SB). NB merupakan komponen yang paling penting karena fungsinya menghubungkan komponen yang ada satu sama lain, seperti CPU, RAM, GPU, serta SB. Sedangkan SB mengelola I/O (input output) motherboard, biasanya sih seperti RAID, atau soundcard onboard. Hmm.. Lebih simpel nya sih chipset di mobo akan menentukan komponen apa yang disupport. Tapi tentunya ada kala meski si chipset2 ini tertanam di mobo tapi si mobo ga bisa sepenuhnya memanfaatkan kemampuan chipset tersebut atau biasanya sih disebut board specific (limit di mobo, bukan chipset).

Lanjut soal chipset, saat ini yang paling umum ada 5 produsen chipset, yakni Intel, AMD/ATI, nVidia, SiS, dan VIA. Bergantung kebutuhan dan platform yang akan dibangun. Saya sih menyarankan jika platform AMD ya pake mobo dengan chipset AMD, dan kalo pake intel ya mobonya Intel juga.

Kenapa? Oke pertama2 sih yang jelas bahwa produsen prosessor paling tahu kapabilitas prosessor tersebut. Lalu kenapa ada SiS dan VIA? SiS dan VIA umumnya memproduksi mobo dengan harga jauh lebih murah. So ga perlu ditanya lagi kenapa harganya bisa lebih murah, karena memang keduanya lebih berorientasi pada mobo low end.

Trus kenapa ada chipset nVidia? Secara nVidia produsen GPU dan ga bikin CPU? Nah kalo ini beda lagi nih. nVidia sebagai produsen GPU justru disini membuat chipset yang GPU-oriented. Atau dengan kata lain nVidia lebih mengerti kapabilitas GPU nya. Di sini nVidia menawarkan fitur yang memang ga disediakan oleh produsen prosessor untuk mobo nya, tengok nVidia memiliki fitur PhysX enabled, Triple-SLI (oke sekarang sih udah di support di sebagian mobo LGA1366/Chipset Intel X58). nVidia juga memiliki controller memory yang lebih canggih dibanding Intel, bisa ditengok chipset nF790i yang support RAM DDR3 hingga 2000MHz, secara chipset Intel aja saat ini max support 1600MHz (meskipun FSB processor Intel saat ini max baru 1600 MHz :p). i di belakang menunjukkan chipset diperuntukkan untuk platform Intel, sedangkan a untuk AMD. Saat ini chipset terbaru untuk AMD adalah nF980a, yang sudah support socket AM3.

Chipset NB Intel LGA775 saat ini memiliki nomor seri x4y (ex. P45, X48). Dengan x kelas mobo dan y umumnya merupakan tingkatan (makin besar makin lengkap spesifikasinya). Kelas mobo Intel saat ini ada 4, yakni Q (untuk bisnis, ada gpu onboard/low-end), G (untuk multimedia, ada gpu onboard/mid-end), P (untuk gaming, ga ada gpu onboard/mid-end), dan X (Extreme, untuk high end gaming). Chipset Intel LGA1366 saat ini hanya ada satu yakni X58. Untuk Intel Atom saat ini masih menggunakan chipset Intel G945 (hmm, udah 3 ketinggalan tiga generasi sih à 96y, x3y, x4y), dan yang baru adalah chipset nVidia ION.

Chipset NB AMD saat ini bernomer seri 7xx, atau lebih jelasnya sih mulai 760, 770, 780/785, hingga 790 yang paling bagus. 790 sendiri masih terbagi dua, yakni 790GX dengan GPU onboard dan 790FX yang paling ultimate saat ini. AMD memiliki keunikan yakni dengan adanya fitur ACC (Advanced Clock Calibrating) yang dapat meng-unlock core prosessor AMD Phenom X2 dan X3 menjadi X4, yang mana sangat menguntungkan danhal ini ga terjadi di platform Intel.

Maybe saya ga panjang2 juga jelasin tiap2 chipset soalnya ini bisa panjang aja, apalagi ampe spesifikasi tiap chipset, maybe kapan2 saya buat tersendiri kalo ada waktu.

3. Slot memory, menentukan memory apa yang disupport. Berbeda dengan socket prosessor, slot memory umumnya lebih dari satu. Di sini chipset juga menentukan konfigurasi memory. Umumnya sih saat ini memory udah dual channel, yang secara teori sih artinya menggandakan bandwith memory dengan memasang dua keping memory (ga harus identik sih, tapi sebaiknya iya untuk memastikan compatibility). FYI memory DDR2 dan DDR3 memiliki bandwith 64-bit, dengan dual channel, bandwith memory naik jadi 2x nya, yakni 128-bit. Beda lagi sebagian mobo LGA1366/chipset Intel X58, support triple channel, jadi dengan memasang 3 memory yang identik, bandwith bisa mencapai 3x nya atau 192-bit. Sebaiknya sih jika mobo dual channel ada 4 slot dan kalo triple channel ada 6 slot.

Satu yang saya sarankan, jangan menggunakan mobo yang saking canggihnya mengatakan support DDR2 dan DDR3, soalnya it absolutely won’t work together. Keduanya memiliki desain dan voltage yang berbeda (DDR2 ~ 1,8V dan DDR3 1,5V), jadi ga bisa dipake secara bersamaan.

4. SATA2, umumnya saat ini semua mobo udah SATA2 dengan max transfer rate 3Gbps atau sekitar 300 MB/s (jangan ketipu ya kalo ada yang bilang 3GB/s, jangan lupa 8b=8bit=1byte=1B). Jumlah port SATA sekitar 4-8. Ada juga eSATA yakni port SATA eksternal, namun ini agak jarang di mobo low-mid end. Oke yang agak penting adalah biasanya SATA memiliki problem jika dihubungkan dengan HDD dan ODD bersamaan, apalagi sekarang trend nya ODD memang udah pake SATA. Makanya di mobo2 hi-end biasanya terdapat 2 controller SATA, yakni dari SB dan dengan chipset SATA tambahan, meskipun memang ga cuma itu tujuan dipasang 2 controller tersebut. Oke sebenernya masih ada yang perlu diperhatikan soal SATA, yakni setting RAID yang di support, tapi jujur aja saya belum eksperimen soal ini jadi ga bisa bilang apa2.

5. USB 2.0. jumlah slot USB minimal 6 buah (bisa 4 di belakang, dan 2 di panel depan/casing). Seriusan sebaiknya jangan sampai komputer Cuma punya 4 port USB. Nanti ribet. Maybe harus saya beri contoh gimana saya puyeng mengelola slot USB saya yang cuma 4, 1 buat mouse, 1 buat printer, 1 buat Media Center Remote Receiver, 1 buat Xbox360 wireless receiver, 1 buat modem broadband (biasanya sih pake HP).. lah loh bingung kan. Belom kalo ada yang dateng mau colok flashdisk.. ribet deh.. ya sebenernya sih banyak solusinya, bisa beli parallel USB, atau pasang front panel.

6. PCIe, atau PCI express, saat ini sih sebagian besar mobo udah support PCIe 2.0 16x. Kenapa PCIe 2.0 16x? sebenernya sih masalah bottleneck bandwith, ya awalnya sih PCIe 1.0/1.1a itu dari 16x mau jadi 32x, tapi ternyata ga efisien atau gimana lah, makanya muncul PCIe 2.0 16x yang sama dengan PCIe 1.0/1.1a 32x. Oke jangan terkecoh dengan PCIe 1x, soalnya itu beda bentuk lagi. Pcie 1x fungsinya seperti pengganti PCI dengan bandwith yang lebih besar, tapi kalo PCIe 16x itu digunakan untuk Graphic card. Nah sekarang sih trend nya multi GPU, AMD dengan Quad CrossfireX dan nVidia dengan Quad SLI. Ya saat ini maksimal sih empat GPU bersamaan. Termasuk graphic card yang dual GPU diitung dua, jadi kalo pasang dua dual GPU ya dibilangnya udah Quad. Tapi ya memang saat ini juga beberapa mobo hi end menyediakan hingga 4 slot PCIe 2.0 16x (meskipun saya belum tau apa udah ada mobo yang bener2 bisa full semuanya 16x+16x+16x+16). Tapi intinya slot PCIe 16x ini menentukan upgradeability graphic card, apalagi jika pengen beli graphic card baru tapi ga buang yang lama. FYI seperti memory, sebaiknya graphic card yang digunakan untuk konfigurasi multi GPU adalah graphic card yang identik. So saran saya sih sebaiknya beli mobo yang minimal ada 2 slot Pcie 2.0 16x. Eit2.. masih ada yang perlu diketahui, bahwa meski mobo itu bilang ada 2 slot PCIe 16x, tapi bukan berarti jika dua-duanya dipasang lantas jadi 16x+16x, soalnya ada banyak mobo yang hanya support 16x+0x, jadi kalo dipakai dua-duanya jadi 8x+8x.

7. Ukuran mobo, atau form factor standarnya sih ATX dan mATX. mATX lebih kecil dibanding ATX. Kenapa ini penting? Karena mobo yang sempit bisa membatasi ukuran custom heatsink yang akan dipakai. Selain dua diatas tentunya masih banyak lagi form factor lain, seperti BTX dan mini-ITX. BTX sih ceritanya direncanakan sebagai pengganti ATX, tapi sepertinya masih belum berjalan. Beda lagi ITX, ukurannya super mungil, dan umumnya dipakai buat HTPC atau Intel Atom. Oke ukuran mobo memang penting sebagai orientasi fungsi mobo. Kalo buat warnet atau HTPC emang cocoknya sih yang mungil2. Tapi buat gaming sih bagusnya yang gede2, selain biar muat banyak PCIe juga bagus buat sirkulasi udara.

8. LAN card, udah standar ada di tiap mobo. Ada banyak sih mulai dari Marvell, Intel, Realtek. Tapi ya setidaknya beli mobo yang udah Gigabit LAN. Ini backward compatible kok, jadi bisa dipake di speed 10/100Mbps juga. Di mobo2 hi end biasanya malah udah Dual Gigabit LAN, jadi ada dua port LAN nya.

9. Sound Card, selain LAN, yang standar ada di mobo adalah soundcard. Ada banyak juga mulai dari C-Media, Soundmax, Realtek. Selain itu perlu diliat juga soundcard tersebut support berapa channel dan udah support High Definition Audio belum. Saat ini sih umumnya udah 7.1, dan support audio 24-bit untuk muter Blue Ray dkk. Oke memang sih soundcard onboard so pasti beda dibanding dengan yang dedicated seperti Creative, Asus, atau Auzentech dan Onkyo.. :p Tapi ga ada salahnya kok punya soundcard onboard yang bagus. Soundcard yang udah 7.1 atau 8-channel umumnya ada 6 analog audio jack. Biasanya juga ada digital SPDIF jack pada mobo mid end keatas.

10. Graphic Card, oke yang satu ini emang optional sih, apalagi kalo mau beli PC dengan dedicated Graphic card sebenernya ini ga begitu diperlukan. FYI seriously jauh banget performa Graphic card onboard dengan dedicated! Jangan lah berharap maen Crysis lancar dengan efek full Cuma pake graphic card onboard.

Tapi punya mobo dengan graphic card onboard termasuk menguntungkan loh.. apalagi kalo dana agak terbatas. Anda bisa beli mobo dengan graphic card onboar dahulu, lalu kalo udah terkumpul duitnya bisa beli graphic card dedicated nya. Biasanya minimal graphic card onboard saat ini ada VGA/D-Sub Port (untuk monitor CRT), DVI Port (untuk LCD), S-Video (untuk TV), dan yang sekarang lagi ngetren HDMI (untuk HD TV). Kelebihan HDMI yang paling utama adalah HDMI ga cuma output video, tapi juga audio. Jadi dengan kabel HDMI bisa keluar suara juga, so worry no more about the analog audio. Yang jelas sih klaim nya mobo2 baru yang udah pake HDMI udah support Full HD buat muter Blue Ray, meskipun saya agak ragu sih sebenernya.

11. BIOS. Biasanya sih Cuma ada dua, yakni Award dan AMIBIOS. Oke saya sih sebenernya kurang ngerti juga detailnya, tapi bagi saya BIOS itu penting, apalagi untuk overclock. Support terhadap BIOS sangat diperlukan apalagi kalo mobo nya masih baru, soalnya seriusan biasanya masih buggy2 banget kalo awal2 keluar. Nah ini nih yang jadi alasan saya ga pake mobo yang mereknya agak abal. Sebaiknya sih survey dulu apalagi kalo mau beli mobo yang mereknya ga jelas (terutama gara2 harganya yang miring)
