I’ve been using Flickr, but it just seemed too cumbersome for the simple task of showing off photos. There’s alot of great things about Flickr, and I may realize I miss it one day, but for now I thought I’d try posting pics via a blog format. I’m pretty familiar with WordPress already and I like the setup, I think I’ll just need to watch my file sizes as to not go over my limit.

In this month’s experiment, I’m making tea my primary source of caffeine.

No coffee, no Slurm and little caffeinated soda*.

Some of you know that I’ve had a recent interest in tea, primarily because it is much easier for me to grow myself than coffee. I never liked tea much, so I went on a quest to find something I could stand. I settled on black, over-steeped English breakfast tea, so that will be my beverage of choice for the rest of the month. I’ll check in occasionally with updates on my progress.

I’ll avoid drinking soda deliberately, but if there’s no reasonable alternative, such as at a restaurant, I’m not going to go across the street for something to drink.

The guild has lost some members, some who were with the game from day 1, and some which were members

The guild has lost some members, some who were with the game from day 1, and some which were members of the original Doppler. We are now but 4 members, slowly grinding away the guild XP bar in hopes that one day our banner can be shown for all to see. Buts its taking a while, and it seems the only thing harder than getting that bar to move is getting more people in the guild. I have been on a Doppler ad campaign every night when I log in. I send out region messages asking for anyone looking for a guild, but I get no responses. At those times when I do group with others, it seems a rarity that anyone is without a guild.

It’s an odd feeling, to say the least. Every other MMO I have ever played has always had some people from time to time in the area chat asking if any guilds were recruiting. I don’t see that in this game. It’s definately caused by the guild XP system, no question. But, is it a good thing? Maybe yes in alot of respects, but for the situation I’m facing, no. I have spoke with other guilds that I see sending up recruitment flares in the region chat, asking them how many people they see come in. One person told me that most of the influx to their guild is from swallowing up other guilds whose numbers were dwindling. We may be in that boat.

We are now at the point where we need to either stick it out as a group, or go wherever the tide takes us outside of the Doppler banner.

The intention of this blog has always been to tell the tales of the guild Doppler. Well, as time progressed, I started writing less about what we were doing as a guild, and more general WAR info. To be honest, the reason I report less on what we do as a guild is because we don’t have nearly the membership we used to, and don’t group much anymore . This IS somewhat my fault being too low level for the others, makes me feel like a kid running after an ice cream truck. But anyways, back to my point. I recently saw an opportunity to take my love of writing about my opinions on WAR, and possibly get them to a larger audience. So, this is my announcement to all who read this blog, that I am now a contributor to the Lagwar website. Nothing will change about what I write, its merely a move to reach more readers. I will still maintain this site, but only when we have interesting things happen with the guild. Like if we get more members and start doing stuff together hehe. Lets get recruiting guys!

Anywho, if you like what you’ve read here, head on over to Lagwar and check it out there.

I hope you enjoy.

Hello all! I haven’t posted all week because its simply been very busy in real life and when I

Hello all!

I haven’t posted all week because its simply been very busy in real life and when I do get time at the computer, I just want to play! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday and got to spend some quality time with those you love, whether that be spouse, parents, children, grandparents, aunts or uncles, friends, or virtual opponents in the ring of battle. I, unlike others (lookin’ at you Shad!), didn’t take it easy of the eats this year, especially not the Pumpkin pie, of which I at a whole one (not in one sitting of course). Its one of my favorite things, and I only get one time a year to eat it, and its at Thanksgiving. The pumpkin roll came in a close second this year in the pounds devoured, almost had an upset but the pie is still Turkey Day champ, 28 years running. Cake is still > than pie just to set the record straight.

Alright, down to WAR bidness…

This time in Slurms corner, instead of fun links, I have some interesting screenshots. The first of which came during a keep raid we attended in Avalorn. After taking one of the objectives, I jumped down the hill only to find myself trapped under the terrain:

As some of you may know, I have been having some graphical issues with the game since it came out. Its always seemed to simply be a matter of not being able to load the textures fast enough. My worst areas are anything with large amounts of foliage (Troll Country kills my framerate). The killer about this is that I run a 3 gig Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram, 2 sata drives in RAID 0 and 2 8800 GT’s in SLI…I know its not a monster Rig, but I shouldnt be having any problems. Well, every time Nvidia comes out with a new driver I get all hopeful (try as I might to suppress the eagerness for the drivers to work like a magic wand). This is what the new drivers did for me after installing them Friday:

Funny thing with the tuxtres is that they changed as you moved, it was as if my dwarf had something funny in his /special pipe.

Not so much a funny screenshot, but I like it:

Me and the Juddster went questing and queueing and I took this while we DOMINATED at the Temple of Isha. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the 500 to 20 score. Whooos hoooouse, Sluuurms hooouse…

Lastly,..

I AM THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ,…er uh, don’t worry about the man behind the curtain, umm OZ HAS SPOKEN!!

Well the title pretty much sums up my T2 Open RvR experience last night. I was in the midst of quest

Well the title pretty much sums up my T2 Open RvR experience last night. I was in the midst of questing to get my Engineer to level 20 (which I did, thankyaverymuch). At one point, I had to go from the warcamp in Barak Varr to the camp near the big gate public quest. I saw on the map that there was an option to take a road south and then loop back north through a mountain pass and out to the camp where my quest would end. I also saw that I could simply run through the Open RvR zone and be there in about half the time. Hmmm, risk of ganking vs time save….

I went into the lake and within 2 minutes was jumped by a pair of witch elves who gave me no chance to live.

I figured if I went back in with a plan of being ganked I would stand a better chance (even though bolstered, they were only around level 12, and I should be able to take at least 1 down with me). After re-entering the ORvR area, I happened to see a full group running by the fort on their way to the battlefield objective. I steered clear. I continued onto my original objective to complete my quest and what do i find? one of the Witch Elves. She dies.

I then notice that the keep is being seiged by the group that had ran by moments before. OOH heres an opportunity. I ran as fast as my little drawven stumps could take me and popped into the keep. I then proceed up to the second level and placed my oil above the door (never leave home without it). A few spills later and the whole group goes down. Slurm wins.

Funny thing is: they came back twice and did it again. Yummy XP.

Welcome to another exciting episode of randomness!!!

First off, I would just like to say that nothing can make a father prouder than when he receives confirmation that his son or daughter actually pays attention to what he says. We are still working on potty training my 2 year old daughter and as she finishes, she stands up…looks into the potty and gets a proud look in the eye before she cries out, “Daddy! I dropped a deuce!!”

My wife….was….thrilled.

But anywho, time for links to stuff thats just plain fun…to me…

First off, for those of us who have played ANY of the Ultima games, you may or may not know that the creator of those games (Lord British) is back from his journey. What journey do you speak of Slurm? His visit to the international space station duh!

Mmmmm tasty

And finnaly I just wanted to comment about something very near and dear to my heart. Its something that is seen by some (and by some I mean me) as more important than the big election today. Some people go through life questioning “what it all means”, and “is there a point” and then life affirming events like this take place. I, of course, am talking about…

WOW…..just wow (no not that wow, thoughts like that get people hurt). I mean wow to how amazingly done the capital city is. I had the opportunity to check it out for the first time and I was amazed as soon as I stepped off the platform from the flight master. I think the only MMO I’ve played that attempted to make a city as amazing would be Age of Conan, but this is just soo much better. I have never in all my gaming years taken a character into a public area and been made to feel so small. Having never played the tabletop version of Warhammer, I can’t say that this would fulfill all of your Warhammer wet dreams (hey maybe a good name for the expansion… or Warhammer: Monkies of Death and you could call it WMD……i digress) but from playing most of the previous Warhammer titles I’d say they stayed true to the ideals of Games Workshop.

Not that the screens do it justice….I’d just like to share:

Anyone who watches Futurama will be familiar with Slurm, the delicious secretion from the alien space worm. Well it looks like like we won’t have to wait until the 30th century to enjoy this fine beverage because 20th Century Fox has filed a US patent for Slurm.

I can’t wait to get addicted to this.

Well, I may never get to try Cherry Chocolate Diet Dr Pepper, but that may not be so bad if I ever get to try Slurm, the yellow-ish soda derived from futuristic slugs.
Actually, Slurm is the “drink of choice” in one of my favorite shows of all time, Futurama. Here’s the Wiki version:
“Slurm is a fictional soft drink in the Futurama universe. It is popular, highly addictive, and is Fry’s favorite beverage. It is ubiquitous in the show; Slurm delivery trucks and advertisements can be frequently spotted, including in the Futurama opening credits. The drink’s slogan is ‘It’s highly addictive!’ The distribution of Slurm is handled by the Bureau of Soft Drinks, Tobacco, and Firearms, a parody of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives”.
Turns out, “Slurm” is trademarked now and is rumored to be a future beverage for our time period.
If can’t wait.
