<p>I first came upon this mixer by <a href="http://www.rane.com" target="_blank">Rane</a> in the 1990s. A very useful piece of kit. What the Rane SM26 is or rather was, as Rane put it in their <a href="http://www.rane.com/pdf/old/sm26man1990.pdf" target="_blank">manua</a>l in 1990:</p>

<p>Pretty witty way of describing what the SM26 could do. I used it in a club once in 1996, setting it up as a splitter. One input from the main house console was distributed to a few amplifiers to power the house speakers. In all my line of work, all those installs where I have actually installed this little device (I call it little because it is only 1U high) it has fulfilled its role as a splitter rather than a mixer. This little device, like all Rane products, are built to last and is sturdy as anything. Behringer makes one with a similar function to this called the Ultralink Pro but when it comes to reliability, I will take the Rane over this anyday</p>
