There is an amount of pride that comes with being an American citizen; the only way that you’ll be able to appreciate, though, is by losing it. Or, like many, begin without it. I’m proud to be an American. I was born here, not brought here. I did not flee here from somewhere else due to an unfair government, persecution, or crime. I didn’t sneak over in search of a better life,  better living conditions, or a better opportunity. I did not arrive as a war criminal a prisoner, or a prisoner of war. I’ve been able to marry since birth, was afforded the right to vote, and had the privilege of serving my country with little more than a background check. I haven’t been aligned with any group of U.S., or non-U.S. persons that have been racially or religiously profiled due to their affiliation, whether innocent or guilty, with radical groups that commit heinous crimes in the United States or against her citizens and properties in foreign countries.

Living under the auspices and freedoms of the United States of America, I was not born in the wrong city, the wrong body, in the wrong era, near the wrong neighborhood, living in the wrong house, to the wrong parents who wrongly treated me. I did not I was not sent to the wrong school, never got shot at by the wrong crowd, and never killed the wrong person while aiming for someone else. No, I went to a school where I was given the choice to get an education, or not. I applied to jobs where I chose to work, or not. I was approached by the wrong people, and I had a chance to take the easier road, or not. When I made the grades to get into a college, I had a choice to attend classes, or not.

I did not attend classes…a choice that led me to fail college within the first four months. Which caused me to get put on academic probation. I lost my housing, my funding, and my shot at college. Thus, the military.

The military doesn’t provide many choices, so my chances for success immediately improved. I received a Security Clearance, a duty station and a job. My duty station was at a Law Enforcement (LE) and Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit These privileges came with responsibility; I learned to fight, became a marksman and a sharpshooter, and had to show up at my post on-time. I also had to pay taxes and vote.

About a year and a half later, I attended “A” School for telecom installation and maintenance in California.

I spent 9 years in the military, and decided to leave when former President Clinton decided to downsize the armed forces because it meant that I would not get promoted. I was third in line to move up, and the powers that be decided that I would not make it that year, and possibly the next.  So I bailed and went back to college, graduated, and here I am today.

I suppose that in a small way, I should be understanding of all of the downtrodden groups of Americans who cry out that their rights have been violated because the American way of life that they’ve been enjoying for most, if not all, of their lives are somehow now not meeting their freedom-based, perceived needs.

Wasting our time, our money, and our attention on various propositions that, if not voted upon in the desired manner, take to the streets and cry “FOUL.” Their attitude, of course, that when Democracy does not go “their way” then it’s not fair; their God-given rights have been violated, although they do not believe for the most part in God. Well, the truth of the matter is that you really don’t have any rights unless they are given to you. Just because you live in America does not mean that America must bend to your needs, and as an American that has actually given his will to his country, maybe it would be better for all involved if you just got out…you’ve got nothing to lose, after all. America isn’t fair? Move. Leave. Go.

We have become a country that puts the needs of your tiny, meddling, superficial groups to the forefront because our leaders are afraid of being called biased. We spend a lot of time on you…and you know exactly who you are…hearing out your court cases and legal summaries as to why things should be this way, or that way, to be truly fair. Instead of seeking a new haven as so many millions have sought America, you instead use fear and hate to spread your doctrine.

It’s a doctrine that is destroying our country and our way of life. Congratulations. While you wage another protest, or sit-in, or attack, the real danger awaits outside our borders. While watching you, we’re forced to take our eye off the true danger. Move to Mexico, Canada, or the Middle East and establish your lives there…I don’t care where you go just as long as it is not here. Goodbye. Good Luck. Get Out. You say that you want freedom and equality, yet you hold the country hostage. I’ve but one more thing left to say: The World Does Not Revolve Around You.

“The documents in this series were kept by two brothers, William Henry Street and John Ambrose Sherman Street, who were born in Burton, Sunbury County, the sons of Hon. Samuel Deny Street and Abigail Freeman.  They were educated at public schools in Burton and Fredericton.

William Henry Street was born April 11, 1793.  After completing his education, he engaged in the mercantile business in Saint John.  He was twice mayor of Saint John (1835-1836 and 1848-1849) and served in the militia.  In the General Election of 1842, he ran for Saint John City and, after protest, was awarded the seat.  He sat until the dissolution of the House in 1846 when he retired from politics.  W.H. Street was married twice: in 1824 to Mary Bruce, and in 1847 to Sarah Boyd Orr.  He died in Saint John on April 4, 1875.

John Ambrose Sherman Street was born September 22, 1795.  He studied in his father’s law office and was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar on February 22, 1817.  He practiced law at Chatham, Northumberland County, and in 1823 married Jane Isabella Hubbard.  He was elected to the Assembly as a Conservative member for Northumberland County at a by-election in 1833.  He sat in the House almost continuously until his defeat in 1856.  He then moved to Fredericton and unsuccessfully ran for York County in 1861 and 1865.  He was made a member of the Executive Council in 1851, and served as Attorney-General until 1854.  He died in 1865.

The Street Records pertain to the legal and business affairs of the brothers.  The material is catalogued alphabetically according to client’s name.  The types of documents found here include: indentures, deeds, declarations, bonds, assignments, correspondence, and leases.  The material dates from 1812 to 1863.  This series measures 9 centimeters.

Trial Bay Gaol is located within the Arakoon State Conservation Area, not far from South West Rocks in New South Wales, Australia.

The gaol was originally built in the 1870s and was used during World War I as an internment site for Germans. There is a small cemetery located outside the gaol grounds for those who died during their internment.

I’ll explain. Frequenting small music venues and undergoing the micro-gigging experience are infinitely more rewarding than seeing chart-topping bands in high capacity venues for the following reasons:

1. Crowd/band interaction is fundamental for small bands as they all need a distinguishing feature to earn them a reputation. If your band name is Pink Floyd or Kings of Leon, playing a tight set of perfectly honed album material that everyone recognizes won’t enlighten anyone’s lives; they might as well stay at home and listen to the goddamn album. Gig experiences are made more unique if you happen to be asked to play an instrument along with a band, if you bring along your own instruments, if you are asked to come up

   with a new song title, if they accept your inebriated bellows for song requests or just give you dance moves to groove away to. If the headline act walks off stage and sits at thenearest table you can have a chat to find out who their influences are, who they’re shagging and even where the best places to buy instruments are.

2. Random memorable moments are the crux of all good nights out, and there are very few bands that can pull off an electro theme tune of The Antique’s Roadshow for their opening number. If you notice a band’s bass guitarist voraciously rubbing his cock into the back of his guitar you can be reassured by the fact that other bands are willing to throw sweets and party poppers at their devoted audience instead. Lyrics can be fairly abstract and obscure, like the tales of love based around the uselessness of Jar Jar Binks, and my favourite lyrics of the past week have been “You gotta pull your dick out at the restaurant in front of their aunt, and jerk off with your balls smackin the windows of the Mitsubishi Galant!” (f.y.i. this wasn’t Coldplay). A woman resembling Edith Piaf slashed a knife through the air towards my face at the previous gig as part of a French mock-cabaret act, whilst a close acquaintance of mine was being ordered to turn the pages of a flick book with obscene words on it. This is not the kind of experience you forget in a hurry.
3. Tight budgets and creative minds make for an interesting array of instruments being ‘played’, some of which I have see recently include ukuleles, a melodica (mouth-organ keyboard), banjos, a handsaw, flutes, spoons, shoes, guitars made with planks of wood, a cello with no body, a ukulele made with an ice cream box, saxophones, a big ‘ole jar with a hole, reel to reel tape, cowbells, flutes, a hang (type of Swiss steel pans) and a lesser-known instrument that I like to call the guitar.
4. Cheapness is of vital importance to students, and £3 on the door or free entry beats a £50 ticket planned 5 months in advance every time. Not only is entry cheaper, but booze is cheaper and more varied too. Small venues often have a bar or two on site and serve a wide variety of liquid meals, putting many large venues to shame with their extortionate prices and lack of choice (Wembley Arena only sells two types of beer!!!!!)
5. The general atmosphere is often very cool in small venues, with comfy seats to lounge around in, places to dance and improvised stages.

Duo join forces to bring series to screen

Variety/Cynthia Littleton—It’s a potent combination: Stephen + Steven

Stephen King and Steven Spielberg are joining forces to develop a limited series based on King’s just-released supernatural thriller “Under the Dome.” DreamWorks TV has optioned the book and is looking to set it up as an event series, likely for cable. DreamWorks principal Stacey Snider was key in bringing the project to the company. Spielberg, King and Snider will exec produce along with DreamWorks TV chiefs Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. The book, which has earned strong reviews as a return to form for the prolific author, revolves around the drama that unfolds after an invisible force field suddenly descends on a small vacation town in Maine. As the locals fight for their survival, the town descends into warring factions led by enigmatic characters.

DreamWorks is starting to meet with writers for the project. The plan is to set a writer before shopping the skein to prospective buyers.

Spielberg and King have worked together in the past, developing a screen adaptation of King’s 1984 novel “The Talisman,” on which Spielberg has had the option for more than 20 years. That project has been developed as a feature, and it came close to being done as a mini for TNT a few years ago until it was tabled for budgetary reasons.

The “Dome” deal continues a burst of activity on the smallscreen side for Spielberg and DreamWorks TV. Among the high-profile projects in the works is a series about the development of a fictional Broadway tuner for Showtime. Another Showtime contender is a costume-drama revolving around the Borgia clan, penned by Neil Jordan and with Robert Zemeckis also producing.

hey! sorry it’s been so long since my last update. Had a mad weekend and couldn’t get around to any photo editing. But I am now ready to bring you the second to last installment in the critters section from Madagascar!

Scincidae

Skinks are found quite easily in most of Africa, but in Madagascar some have evolved some really peculiar habits. There are numerous fossorial species (dwelling underground), several leaf-litter swimmers, and even acquatic species. The only ones I was able to photograph, which we found in our bucket traps, were leaf-litter swimmers. Typical of skinks, they show dramatic limb reduction, though unlike species I’ve found before, they have not completely lost any limbs. They also have extremely elongated tails, helping them swim through the undergrowth.

And that is unfortunately it for the skinks! I apologise for the monotony of it all, it’s very difficult to get photos of skinks in situ, seeing as they do sort of slither through the undergrowth and the only times we really saw them were in buckets and in hands.

Anyways, next time is what I hope to be the most awaited installment, and the final one – Mammals! Lemurs, tenrecs, and all that jazz! stay well tuned, it should be out by Saturday!
