Philosophen hinterfragen den Sinn der Arbeit: Ist der „Wert Arbeit“ tatsächlich überholt? Oder ist er heute zur Strukturierung der Persönlichkeit sogar notwendiger denn je? „Paris-Berlin, die Debatte“ sucht nach Antworten zur Kultur der Arbeit jenseits der gängigen Arbeitslosen- oder Ein-Euro-Job-Diskussionen.

Ist der Mensch tatsächlich für die Arbeit geschaffen? Oder besteht die Gefahr nach der alten Parole: Sein Leben vergeuden, um seinen Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen? Sind diese Fragen überhaupt noch aktuell, wo doch die Arbeit als Wert an sich und als Unterpfand der menschlichen Würde betrachtet wird? Die Arbeit als Wert ist jedoch ein geschichtliches Phänomen, das erst Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts aufgetaucht ist.

Die Arbeit im heutigen Verständnis erfuhr in der Antike keine Wertschätzung. Auch verändert sich die Einstellung zur Lohnarbeit, zum Arbeitsmarkt überhaupt. In Deutschland gibt es beispielsweise ein Manifest der „glücklichen Arbeitslosen“. In Frankreich wurde vor ein paar Jahren das Buch „Bonjour paresse“ (etwa: Es lebe die Faulheit!) von Corinne Maier zum Bestseller.

Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich auch die Frage nach der Schaffung von Werten. Misst sich denn der Reichtum einer Gesellschaft einzig am Pro-Kopf-Einkommen? „Paris-Berlin, die Debatte“ versucht, die kulturelle Dimension von Arbeit zu erfassen, der sozialen Komponente von Arbeit gerecht zu werden und den Begriff von Arbeit neu zu füllen, der über reine Erwerbstätigkeit hinausgeht.

Liegt die dazu passende Utopie vielleicht genau in jenem Bereich zwischen der Befreiung von der Arbeit und der Erfüllung in der Arbeit? Paris-Berlin diskutiert mit Daniel Tyradellis, Philosoph und Kurator der Ausstellung: „Arbeit. Sinn und Sorge“ im Hygienemuseum von Dresden.

2. Saints – Big game this week in fact make it a huge game this week and I have to say I think they will go down to their first lose of the season.
3. Vikings – This team is not getting alot of attention which is surprising with Favre in it but they continue to win and win well.
4. Patriots – Pretty much sealed up the division this weekend and can now look forward to ruining the Saints perfect start to the season.
5. Bengals - They are praying the lose to the Raiders doesn’t hurt them too much.
6. Chargers - Looked good beating up the Broncos and should win the division now.
7. Cardinals – This team still seems to surprise people even after last season.
8. Cowboys – Warning signs are up since they struggled to beat the Redskins.
9. Packers - How could would this team be if they could protect Aaron Rodgers?
10. Giants - Got the win they needed after the bye week even though they tried their hardest to lose it.
11. Eagles – The Bears game was closer than it needed to be.
12. Steelers - Must stop losing so silly teams like the Chiefs.
13. Broncos – Simms was so bad he made Orton look like Elway.
14. Jaguars - Nearly losing to Buffalo shows how bad this team can be at times.
15. Falcons – Not surprised by the news they are seeking a new kicker.
16. Ravens - They need to win a game against a good team to be taken seriously.
17. Dolphins – Still winning even with all those injuries.
18. Texans - Things looked so good a few weeks ago but know they look like the .500 Texans we all love.

In Canada è stato registrato un insolito numero di gravi reazioni allergiche a un tipo di vaccino contro l’influenza A. Lo ha reso noto l’Organizzazione Mondiale della Sanità. Le autorità canadesi, ha spiegato il portavoce Thomas Abraham, «stanno compiendo le corrette ricerche» e «hanno richiamato un lotto di vaccini della GlaxoSmithKline».

«Dobbiamo capire cosa sia accaduto in Canada», ha aggiunto Abraham, precisando però che l’Oms insiste nel raccomandare l’immunizzazione contro il virus A/H1NI. Nei giorni scorsi, l’Oms aveva reso noto che per la gran parte dei 30 decessi registrati dopo la gigantesca vaccinazione in corso era stato finora escluso un collegamento diretto con i vaccini.

Secondo l’Oms, che citava dati derivati da 16 Paesi, i decessi sono stati una frazione infinitesimale dei 65 milioni di dosi di vaccino finora somministrate; e ogni 100 casi di reazione collaterale, 5 sono stati così gravi da provocare la morte.

In generale le reazioni avverse verificatesi per il vaccino antipandemico «Sono reazioni avverse che si possono verificare con qualsiasi vaccino, e comunque le segnalazioni fatte sono nella media e si tratta anche di situazioni molto leggere e lievi».

Lo ha precisato il presidente dell’Istituto superiore di sanità (Iss) Enrico Garaci, a margine del 4/o Forum Risk Management in Sanità apertosi oggi ad Arezzo. «Le reazioni avverse cioè – ha affermato Garaci – possono essere presenti ma vengono monitorate e sono nella media della normalità».

Quanto all’evolversi della pandemia di influenza A in Italia, «la situazione è tranquilla e bisogna proseguire – ha sottolineato il presidente Iss – sulla via delle vaccinazioni». Inoltre, «le situazioni di mutazione del virus H1N1 – ha avvertito Garaci – possono avvenire e ciò è nella fisiologia della stessa evoluzione del virus. Comunque – ha concluso – si tratta di mutazioni che non incidono sull’efficacia del vaccino e che rappresentano casi isolati».

El dissabte 21 de novembre va començar molt bé, amb els actes que s’indiquen a l’altra entrada de Santa Cecília, passacarrer a les 9 del matí, esmorzar de categoria, paxangueta de futbet amb victòria clamorosa per part de l’equip de la banda, ixint derrotat l’equip de la Banjub.

Després, ja tot acabat, teòricament, cadascú se’n va anar a sa casa a dinar, però algú va decidir allargar la festa i no fer cap paró de mig dia, fent-se el vermut al Bar l’Oliva. Sou unes màquines. De vesprada vam fer els concerts i a continuació vam passar a la part que tots estavem esperant, el sopar.

Com tots els anys, no ens aclarim mai per assentar-se, però sempre acabem bé. Un menú d’alló més habitual, un vermudet de categoria, i beguta a tope. Però com tots vau poder comprovar, el sopar va estar marcat per un moment determinat, protagonitzat, en primer lloc, per Arnau, i deprés per Smith. Fa temps, alguns músics van anar a fer una entrà a El Campello amb els de Palomar, i va ser en el viatge de tornada a l’autobús on Arnau va dir als allí presents que ell era el fester de Santa Cecília, junt a Eloi i Marta. Després de xarrar d’unes i altres cosetes Smith li va prometrer a Arnau que el duria a l’Oba – Oba el dia de la festa dels músics, i Arnau li va dir que si complia la seua promesa li regalaria un mòbil, ja que Smith mancava d’un en ixos moments.

El final d’aquesta història ja el coneixeu, i per a tots aquells que no el coneguen, els convide a reviure el moment del sopar.

The South Africa and England T20 series was a great one. Both of the matches were full of entertainment with lots of hitting from both sides. Eoin Morgan’s blistering innings of 85 not out from 54 balls just allowed England to make it over the line in the first T20 while South Africa’s opening pair of Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman came back and outplayed England in the second T20.

England appeared to be in trouble at the start of the first T20 at 61 for 3 after 7 overs before Paul Collingwood (57 from 32 balls) and Eoin Morgan came to the crease. Their partnership got England out of that position and allowed them to score a mammoth 202 for 6 at the end of their innings. That large total did not bother South Africa when they came to bat. They seemed set to make the giant total until the rain came down, and they were 1 run behind the Duckworth Lewis Equation.

Despite the loss, South Africa came back hard in the next T20. Smith (88 from 44 balls) and Bosman (94 from 45 balls) broke the record for the highest opening partnership in T20s by making 170 runs in 13.1 overs. Both of these batsmen capitalized on pretty ordinary bowling by the English, which was full of full tosses and short deliveries. Bosman continued to perform in T20s, but unfortunately got out when he was one shot away from making a T20 century. After these two batsmen set the tone for the rest of the batting line up, South Africa made a monstrous 241 for 6 after their 20 overs. England tried to use the same magic from the last match, but the large total got the best of them when they were 157 for 8 after their 20 overs. The only person who shined for England was Jonathan Trott, who made 51 from 40 balls.

Overall, it was an exciting T20 series. Bosman turned out to be the star from these two matches, as he scored 58 from 31 balls in the first match and nearly a century in the second. England needs to work on tightening its bowling so that the South African batsmen cannot dominate proceedings as they did in the second T20. Let’s see what the One-day series brings!

My Texas roots include Campbells from San Antonio:

27. Josephine Susan Campbell (b. 1859  in San Antonio – d. 1922 in San Antonio)
54. William Wallace Campbell (b. 1828 in Virginia – d. 1862 in San Antonio)

William is listed as a master mason in the 1860 U.S. census, which I found on Ancestry.com.

William and his wife, Susan Elizabeth Smith (1830-1864), passed away while their children were still young. I found two of Josephine’s siblings living with relatives in the 1870 census, but haven’t tracked down Josephine’s location in that particular year.

The siblings were reunited and living together when they were in their 20s, according to the 1880 census.

William earned a mention in Daughters of the Republic of Texas because his wife, Susan, was the daughter of William John Smith (aka John William Smith, a prominent figure in the battle for the Alamo and the first mayor of San Antonio).

As of yet, I have not been able to discover the names of William’s parents, nor the area of Virginia from whence he came. There are a lot of William Campbells in Virginia around the time he resided there for me to sort through.

Josephine married Anson G. Bennett in 1881 and they had 8 children, including my great-grandmother, Susan Campbell Bennett (1884-1966).

I cant wait until Elderscrolls 5 is released next year of 2010…it is going to be epic…I am gonna pee my pants.
But until then, I will be able to satisfy my gaming needs with Metal Gear, and ofcourse to quenc my RPG thirst; Dragon Age!

Yukon-Nevada Gold konnte im Oktober den Betrieb auf Jerritt Canyon wieder aufzunehmen. Hier im Bild die Goldproduktion der ersten Woche.

Eine der aussichtsreichsten Turnaround-Stories überhaupt bietet sich unserer Ansicht nach bei der kanadischen Yukon-Nevada Gold die sich auf die Wiederinbetriebnahme der Goldliegenschaft Jerritt Canyon in Nevada konzentriert. Im Rahmen der Edelmetallmesse in München konnten wir mit dem neuen CEO Robert Baldock sprechen, der sehr optimistisch in die Zukunft schaut.

Eine der aussichtsreichsten Turnaround-Stories überhaupt bietet sich unserer Ansicht nach bei der kanadischen Yukon-Nevada Gold die sich auf die Wiederinbetriebnahme der Goldliegenschaft Jerritt Canyon in Nevada konzentriert. Im Rahmen der Edelmetallmesse in München konnten wir mit dem neuen CEO Robert Baldock sprechen, der sehr optimistisch in die Zukunft schaut.

Nach langer Pause auf Grund von Problemen mit der umwelttechnischen Genehmigung der Produktionsanlagen auf dem Goldprojekt Jerritt Canyon und einer lange Zeit nicht wirtschaftlichen Goldproduktion stand die kanadische Yukon-Nevada Gold (WKN A0MVD1) vor nicht allzu langer Zeit noch Kurz vor dem Aus. Was sich auch im Kurs der Aktie widerspiegelte, der seit Spätsommer 2008 auf niedrigem Niveau konsolidierte.

Doch jetzt scheint der Turnaround eingeläutet. 2009 wurde Robert Baldock als neuer CEO installiert, der bereits sechs Minen zur Produktion geführt hat – zuletzt war er bei Monument Mining erfolgreich – und über große Erfahrungen darin verfügt, Minenunternehmen wieder in die Spur zu bringen.

Und tatsächlich erhielt Yukon-Nevada bereits Mitte Oktober die Erlaubnis der zuständigen Umweltbehörde, den Betrieb auf Jerritt Canyon wieder aufzunehmen – und meldete kurz darauf den Guss der ersten Goldbarren seit langer Zeit. Erklärtes Ziel des Unternehmens ist es nun, innerhalb eines Jahres rund 150.000 Unzen Gold zu produzieren. Genug Material ist vorhanden, denn auf dem Gelände der Jerrit Canyon-Liegenschaft, die eine gigantische Produktionsanlage im geschätzten Wert von 500 Millionen Dollar beherbergt, lagert bereits gefördertes Erz, das direkt in den Produktionskreislauf eingespeist werden kann.

Diesen Kreislauf wieder hochzufahren, daran arbeiten Baldock seit der Genehmigung durch die Umweltbehörden mit Hochdruck, erklärte man uns, und es sieht so aus, als könnte schon in den nächsten Tagen und Wochen die Bestätigung dazu heraus kommen. Was der Aktie unserer Ansicht nach dann schon kurzfristig einen enormen Schub geben dürfte.

Ein weiterer positiver Punkt: Betrachtet man die aktuelle Präsentation des Unternehmens (von November) genauer, sticht ins Auge, dass eines der formulierten Ziele von Yukon-Nevada darin besteht, für dritte Parteien die Erzverarbeitung zu übernehmen (Toll Mining). Von Yukon-Nevada selbst gibt es dazu keine genaueren Informationen, aber bereits vor einiger Zeit gab es eine Meldung des ebenfalls in Nevada tätigen Konkurrenten Great Basin Gold, wonach man mit Yukon-Nevada auf eine Toll-Mining-Vereinbarung über ein Volumen von 30.000 Tonnen Gold zu einem Preis von 88 US-Dollar pro Tonne abgeschlossen habe. Auch in dieser Richtung dürfte es, schätzen wir, in nächster Zeit Neuigkeiten geben, die das Potenzial besitzen, den Kurs der Yukon-Nevada-Aktie nach oben zu treiben.

Doch auch mittel- und langfristig stehen die Chancen gut, dass Yukon-Nevada wieder an die alte Stärke anknüpft (Anfang 2008 stand der Kurs noch bei rund 1,70 CAD). Denn auf dem Gebiet von Jerritt Canyon liegen mehrere Minen von denen Baldock und sein Team zunächst drei Schritt für Schritt wieder in Produktion bringen wollen! Bislang nachgewiesen sind auf Jerrit Canyon eine Reserve von 717.000 Unzen Gold, sowie Ressourcen der Kategorien gemessen und angezeigt von insgesamt 1,96 Millionen Unzen des gelben Metalls.

Darüber hinaus besitzt das Unternehmen das so genannte Ketza River-Projekt, auf dem man bisher eine Ressource (gemessen und angezeigt) von rund 650.000 Unzen definiert hat. Yukon-Nevada geht hier davon aus ab 2011 eine Produktion von 60.000 Unzen Gold pro Jahr zu erreichen.

Alles in Allem sind die derzeitigen Kurse so, unserer Ansicht nach, eine ausgezeichnete Möglichkeit, auf den baldigen Turnaround bei Yukon-Nevada Gold zu setzen. Interessierten Anlegern empfehlen wir deshalb unbedingt, jetzt einzusteigen, bevor die nächsten, aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach positiven, Neuigkeiten auf dem Tisch liegen.

Allerdings sind mit einer Anlage in die Aktien von Yukon-Nevada unausweichlich auch Risiken verbunden, derer Sie sich immer bewusst sein sollten. Nicht zuletzt möchte das Unternehmen die bisherigen Halter von Optionsscheinen dazu bringen, diese auszuüben, und bietet dafür sogar zusätzliche „Inducement Warrants“ an, wodurch sich eine erhebliche Verwässerung ergeben könnte.

I once picked up a guitar in February 2008, learned a few chords and never looked back.

I was compelled to teach myself how to play it, not realizing I’d bought a Spanish Acoustic not a Steel String Acoustic until I got home.  Amending a mistake which to be honest wasn’t a big deal, I traded the Spanish for a small Steel String on the market stall I previously worked on in Cambridge, UK.

Now all set to teach myself, with incredible determination I promised myself I’d never give up until I feel I’m good enough to say I play guitar.

Me being me, being able to play guitar wasn’t enough, so I sang a note. I’ll never forgive myself for subjecting my ears to that revolting sounds that forced their way through my vocal chords and out into the now vulnerable space around me. Surprisingly the stench of a sound wasn’t enough to put me off singing, or grunting should I say. I dedicated every spare minute to practicing how to sing and play guitar for several weeks. Suddenly that my awful vocals became a melody, the badly played guitar became a rhythm/ melody – dare I say, I had a song which didn’t hurt my ears! Writing songs has never been a problem for me, I guess paying attention in English and observing the world around me are now key! So lyrics, vocals and guitar now satisfy me.

I didn’t stop there, I consistently taught myself both guitar and vocals churning out a number of original songs, only half I’d say I like.

A year and nine months later and I have a recording contract, as a solo Acoustic/soul/pop artist.

EL SHOW DEL OSO YOGI

Como habíamos anunciado en 1961, Yogi ; toda una estrella por si mismo; abandonó el Show de Huckleberry Hound, para fundar el suyo propio. El Show del Oso Yogi.

En el hueco que dejo en Huckleberry Hound dejó en su lugar dejó encargado a el Zorro Hookey Wolf

Para su debut televisivo protagonista, se hizo acompañar de dos personajes un tanto venidos a menos. Yackie Doddle, el cual ya había participado en sus capítulos (El Huésped Exigente y Pato con suerte ) y también en varios capítulos de Canuto y Canito como el Patito Huérfano.

Lo mismo ocurría con el León Melquiades. Este había intervenido en un par de episodios de Canuto y Canito (más como una idea de personaje que como un personaje en si mismo) Y se rebelaba por fin con su propia serie de animación. (También aparecía un personaje parecido en Tiro loco, el león montañes)

EL LEON MELQUIADES:

Este Felino, es un león montañés de color rosa. con alzacuellos y puños y lazada al cuello de color negro.

Su postura, habla, y gestualización, son de gran refinamiento.

Su mayor empeño en la vida es conseguir adecuar su gruta o cueva a su gusto. Es decir adecentarla para vivir cómodamente con los lujos propios de los que cualquier sibarita como el mismo que se precia, debe vivir.

Sin embargo la vida no le es fácil. Pues a pesar de su elevada educación e intelecto. Cada vez que da un paso, le vienen detrás queriéndole o descerrajar un tiro para exhibirlo como un trofeo, por ser león, en el caso del Mayor Minus. Por considerarlo peligroso, antes de conocerlo, en el caso de la gente muy obcecada. Y en el mejor de los casos recibe varios porrazos por ser educado e inteligente y no ser un berzas como suelen ser la mayoría de los mortales. (Es lo que indica el dibujo ;no yo, lo cual no quiere decir que no comparta cierto nivel de asertividad con lo que quiere mostrar ).

De todos modos Melquiades, llamado asi en España Snagglepuss en Norteamerica. No fue para nada un éxito demasiado llamativo y su serie decayó tempranamente. Si bien es cierto que el personaje quedó como un Mítico de Hanna- Barbera. Tras la serie en el Show del Oso Yogi, según tengo entendido, no se han llegado a crear nuevos capitulos de su personaje y tan solo ha aparecido como comparsa en otras series.
