I finally got my Aromaleigh Retro Hi-Fi Matte Eye Shadow Collection samples yesterday evening!  Thank you SO much Kristen!  I had been getting worried, but apparently my husband found the package in the bushes below the mailbox.  They came in a little organza gift bag, just like the present that they are!  Let me refresh your memory about this collection:

The weather here is rotten right now, rainy, and windy, and not good days to take pictures of hand swatches, but the color are vibrant, and the shadow slides on smoothly, with no chalkiness, or streaks.

The color descriptions are now up on the page for these 20 not-so-tame matte eye shadow colors in the Retro Hi-Fi collection.  This morning, I gave three colors a test drive on my own eyes.  I used Mink Coat, from the Aromaleigh Eye Plush collection from lash line to brown.  I then used the Retro Hi-Fi color Smokin’ on my lid.  It is a gorgeous smoked mauve.  I used Daddy-o in the crease, and wet lined Cranked as an eye liner.  The look is outstanding, and not too bold for a woman of my age.

Daddy-o is a sweet, muted turquoise blue, and Cranked is a coral red.  Cranked is one of the colors that kind of scared me, as we are a cool toned people in my family, and oranges and yellows do not suit us much at all.  I swatched the The lemon yellow Real Gone on the back of my hand, and the words “liver transplant” immediately sprung to mind, so I am going to have to search out an olive skinned person to try some of the more orangey, and yellowed shades.

Like Miss K, I am not generally wild about matte eye shadows, but I could not be more pleased with what I am seeing on my eyes today.  My eyes are poppin’, and the look is neither too boring, or over the top.  I know that when I have a bit more pocket change, after the holidays, I will be buying some full sizes, and that surprises even me, the Aromaleigh eye shadow addict.  These are the perfect, jazzy, matte mineral eye shadow colors that you have been waiting for–so do give them a try.  More color reviews to come, as I experiment some more, and get a few samples to my daughters.

So, I am still excited about the Aromaleigh Retro Hi-Fi Matte eye shadow collection.  I bet that you will be, too!

all my life i have been dreaming, wishing, wanting and more for something that seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle. but no matter how hard i try, there seems to be no clue to that longing.

i would die to know what would make me feel so complete. taking centrum silver wont help me for that matter. this is something that i should take care of myself, without the help of any drug.

this post is senseless. its 12:39AM on the pc’s clock and its 12:56AM on my phone’s clock.

again, i am being invaded by Mr.Craig David. this is the second time that has happened to me this week and it seems to take its toll on me. every time i have insomnia attacks, the results are nonetheless shocking.

i can keep myself awake for almost another day (counting the hours that i am up) and that when the time comes that i feel like it to sleep, i sleep like snorlax.

ungh. this is getting silly. the only sound that i am hearing are the tapping sound of my fingers to the keyboard, of which i have grow fond of listening from constant blogging and all those internet stuff, and i am beginning to master the keyboard itself. i can encode now without looking at it and it seems that i am becoming pretty good at it.

its not something to brag about though. its just something that i am proud of. for the past few years, handling the computer has been one of my problems. i usually get a low mark in school (if not flunk) on my computer subjects. i envy most of my friends because they become so good at it like in an instant. me on the other hand, have to practice and need some getting used to before i get the hang of it all. by that time, all of my classmates have moved on to the advanced while im still stuck on the basic.

ironic as it sounds, but i am really a no-good at this kind of stuff. people just cant seem to notice that. instead of getting harsh remarks from them, i get the total opposite. they get amazed by what i do, which is from my opinion, dont even match the abilities of my other friends who seem to have ate, drank and slept with the computer since who knows when.

isang napakalaking IM SO SORRY talaga sa wordpress. i forgot that i have an account here. all this time, i have been updating my blogger lang and that kinda sucks to realize. isnt it? grr. kaloka kasi ang technology ngayon eh, sa sobrang advanced, nakakahilo na minsan.

what i have been busy about lately?

1. ive been busy looking for a job in cebu. ive been travelling back and forth trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with me! (at ito ay isang kalokohan lamang. oo, naghahanap ako ng trabaho pero hindi pa ho ako warla)

2. ive been fighting my so-called “anxiety attacks” (according to ERIN who is now know as “xaxa be’go!”) and everything else in between is because of mastercard.

3. ive been busy with my fishtank, my farmtown, my ninja saga, my animal and island paradise over @facebook.

4. ive been updating my blogger blog like hell. but thanks to the “import/export” feature sa mga blogs ngayon,  i was able to post my entries from blogger to here. kakaloka isipin na ang date stamp ng 181 posts ko sa blogger are all done on 11/11/09. diba? oa na yun? grabe kung may tao na ganun na in one day, makagawa xa ng 181 posts. kaloka isipin.

5. ive been busy downloading songs over @limewire and @mp3-codes.com. they’ve got the coolest collection of old and new hits. yun!

6. ive been going crazy over plurk. matagal na ang account ko na ito and for the past 2 weeks, dun ka na ulit naalala na may plurk pala ako so update again. and thanks to technology *na naman!* i was able to connect my facebook and twitter to my plurk account so that everytime i update my plurk status, updated din and status ng twitter at FB ko. dba ang saya nun? hehe.

sa page ko dito sa wordpress, ang nilagay ko lang na widget ay ang twitter ko. hindi naman obvious sana na nanggaling lahat ang updates ko from plurk kung walang URL na naka-stamp sa lahat ng updates. wala akong kawala. aw? im going nowhere. toink. next item please.

7. ive been attacked by Craig David for several nights now. hindi ako makatulog kahit anong gawin ko. insanity na ang kalalabasan nito. so help me Josh! waah! //_-)

ano pa ba pinagkakaguluhan ko all this time na nawala ako dito sa wordpress? nothing much naman siguro except of those i mentioned above. kaloka.

After reporting to Jessica on the relative unsmokiness of Riverstone last Friday, she suggested we give it another try this week. She’s still not drinking, on account of she’s still not not-pregnant, but she’s a damn good sport.

When we get in at 730p, we notice two things. First, the bar is ridiculously busy, yet not smoky at all. Second, the guy behind the bar looks familiar. Turns out it’s Jay, owner of Daily Grind on Willey St. Jay hands us a beer list, and we see that the new guy behind the bar is part of a larger change: Riverstone is now Jay’s Hideaway. He tells us the change was made last Sunday, so my visit last week was likely Riverstone’s last hurrah.

The changes seem positive. There’s a lot of Friends of Jay to be seen, and halfway along a woman starts up a chant praising Jay for making the place smoke-free; applause ensues. This is kind of a shock – I don’t believe there is a single smoke-free bar in Morgantown. If this first-weekend crowd is any indicator, maybe there’s a crowd in town that’s been waiting for one (and most of them don’t even look pregnant).

There are some other changes, including a new limited food selection (didn’t get a chance to try the BBQ pork sliders) and the elimination of the board games (boo!). It’s also dark as hell, which isn’t a problem but it made shooting with my iPhone pretty pointless (but I did it anyway).

I don’t remember the entire draft selection from last week, but the Miner’s Daughter is gone. One newcomer is a Saranac Pomagranate Wheat (4.7% ABV), which I try. It’s light and a little tart. I don’t know if I can pick out the pomegranate specifically, but I assume it’s whence the tartness comes. It’s typical of Saranac’s fruit beers, in my experience, for the fruit to be fairly understated (Jess is a big fan of their pumpkin ale, and it’s the same story there). Saranac describes it as “picnic fare,” and I’d agree: Not remarkable, but light and refreshing.

One thing that Jay has thankfully retained is the healthy selection of Rogue bottles. Every time I’ve been here, I’ve looked at the Captain Sig’s Northwestern Ale, an India Red Ale, but I’ve always gone with something else. Today was the day. It’s a dark red fella with a floral scent. The drink is pretty bitter, especially around the edges of the tongue, and it sticks with you. It’s a bracing taste, more assertive than I’d expected. It surprised me to see that Rogue describes it as having a “malty backbone” because as a first-time taster I didn’t get much in the way of maltiness. Nothing unpleasant, but not my favorite Rogue.

I was a Riverstone fan, but I like what Jay’s done with the place. Still no liquor available at Jay’s Hideaway, but there’s a few wines. Morgantown’s got a number of good beer options, but it’s great to add to its options for nonsmokers. Now you can buy beer from Jay in the evening and sober up with his coffee the next day – he’s a full-service kinda guy.

Jess and I haven’t gone to bars much in the last few months, due to a) her pregnancy, and b) the pall of tobacco smoke hanging over the entirety of West Virginia. This is not an anti-smoking screed, it is a factual observation: EVERYBODY smokes in this state (that remaining 74 percent? Liars). If you see a person who is not smoking and think to yourself “Here is a person who is not smoking,” I tell you he/she will pick up something and smoke it before you finish that thought. I don’t want my kid to have a voice like Kathleen Turner, so we stay away from the bars.

Last night, however, it was just me, so down to Riverstone I went. Riverstone lives in the alley near Black Bear, is usually pretty quiet, and has a great bottle selection. Gibbie’s remains at the top of the list for draft beers and actually has a menu, but Riverstone gets a few extra points for, well, not smelling like Gibbie’s. Plus, it’s Halloween Eve (Halloweeneen?), and I’m not looking for that kind of crowd.

The Riverstone crowd is a bartender, me, and two old guys enjoying smokes and Bud Light. Riverstone’s got just about every Rogue beer there is in bottles, but that’s not what I’m looking for. Instead, I order a Harpoon Leviathan. I don’t think I’ve ever had any of Harpoon’s line, but I know they tend toward the hoppy; I’m more of a malt fan. Leviathan is an Imperial IPA, so it sounds interesting – while I avoid pale ales, I really like imperial stouts. Also it’s got a big scary fish on the label.

The first taste is nice. The IPA bitterness is still very much there, but it’s balanced by a rich flavor and texture (this is the “Imperial” part, I think). The bitterness bites the back of the tongue while a strong, almost sweet (but not sugary) malt flavor handles the front. You can distinguish between the tastes, and either might be too much on its own – the sweetness especially – but paired, the sweet redirects the bitter before it becomes overpowering (but it’ll still hang around the back of your mouth for a good while).

The label is fantastic, too – see it? That huge goldeneye trout is too massive for any mere label. Harpoon is now doing a whole series of big Leviathan beers. With luck, I’ll be able to find some at Korintus.

Still feeling pretty good, I decide to try something else. The Leviathan was pretty hefty (10% ABV) so maybe something from the bar. I see they’ve got Miner’s Daughter Oatmeal Stout, from Mountain State Brewing Co. West Virginia beers have treated me pretty well, so I go for that. The beer comes very cold, and I’m not sure if that coldness has something to do with it, but it’s got an almost watery taste. There’s some stout bitterness, coming at the edges of the tongue and front of the mouth, but not a lot. It’s hard to tell exactly what I’m tasting – it’s sour like a stout, but there’s a lack of substance. Mountain State describes it as “surprisingly light in body,” and I’d agree. It’s almost crisp, for heaven’s sake. At the end, I’m not sure what to make of this beer. It wasn’t bad at all, just kind of empty.

One more thing: Hillbilly craps, or “Shut the Box.” Riverstone’s got a good selection of games, but most are for two, so I took on myself in this dice game. And lost. A lot. The object is to get the lowest score possible by rolling dice and covering the numbers you get (for a 12, for example, you could cover the 12, or the 10+2, or 8+4, or so on). When you get a roll that doesn’t match the numbers, you stop and add up the numbers still showing. In 50 rounds (it goes quick), I got two 12s and a bunch of 40s. I blame the Leviathan.

Ieri am reusit, in sfarsit, sa ajung la piesa de teatru “Dragostea dureaza 3 ani”, la Motoare. 25 lei biletul, inghesuiala mare. Am reusit sa ma fac putin de ras (dar sa nu intram in detalii).

Iar scriu din draft in draft si nu se mai leaga nimic. Trupa D’Aya este foarte misto, iar Cristi Iacob si Adriana Trandafir impreuna cu ceilalti colegi mai putin cunoscuti momentan fac toti banii.

Putin misogina pe gustul meu, a reusit totusi sa ma binedispuna si sa ma tina zambind pana la final. Atmosfera de teatru de la Motoare este minunata, exact asa cum ma asteptam. As fi preferat totusi sa stau pe jos.

Am plecat pe Lipscani la o vorba, apoi am ajuns in El Comandante Junior. Este incredibil cum acest club mic este mai plin martea decat vinerea sau sambata. Am baut cate un shot, am socializat la nivel primar si am plecat somnoroasa si infometata catre casa.
