As I’m writing this post, I notice that the number of “hits” on my blog, since I started it in February this year is 6666! More important blog statistics are shown on my Webmaths dashboard. The graph shows how many hits my site gets each day as shown below.

This graph seems to me to be a good example of seasonal variation. It could be used as data in the Core Data & Statistics unit of VCE Further Mathematics. The graph could be “smoothed”, the seasonal indices computed, and a seasonal adjustment performed.

For the last two saturdays their has been a plunge in the graph, with the peaks coming on mid-week. Could the Saturday plunge be explained by less web browsing due to sport and other weekend activities?

Another question worth analysing is:

“Do the peaks occur immediately after a post; or is their a time lag; or are the peaks independant of posts?” Note that I had posts on the 2, 7, 11, 14 and 19th of October.

TiGR, one of the commenters below, pointed me towards the Watchtower Library Wine Wiki, and while there, I found his script for enabling font smoothing in Wine.

Wine, as I mentioned before, runs Watchtower Library perfectly for me on Ubuntu 9.04. The only niggle, as I was discussing with a friend the other day, has been the jagged fonts – particularly the italics.  Well, the good news is that subpixel font smoothing has been supported since Wine 1.1.12.  You can enable it manually, by creating a temporary file, if you wish – the instructions are here. However an easier way is to use TiGR’s script, as below. Open a terminal window and type:

Personally I found that option 3 – “Subpixel smoothing (Cleartype) RGB” looked better on my screen, but YMMV.

• TRESemme is the best spray heat protectant. It makes hair smell great on top of protecting it!

Good shampoo
This shampoo sounded great in the description but like most other products I’m not sure I’m seeing much of a difference. I use it with the matching conditioner, but I think it’s more the conditioner that is doing something. However, the combo does leave my hair much silkier than other shampoos (and I’ve tried a lot of professional products) so it certainly wasn’t disappointing. Not sure if I’ll get it again, I may still keep looking.

Price doesn’t make the product
I had tried the oleo-relax serum with ok results, so I thought if I got the shampoo I may have better results. I have wavy hair, and I prefer to wear it straight, but when I dry it I get “pouf”. So I thought this would be a help. My hair is fickle, some days this stuff works great, some days it’s like I used some cheap regular shampoo. I am giving it a three because I would like for it to have offered my hair better control, and more moisture. It is average, and for the price, I probably won’t buy it again.

I originally purchased this for my mother, who has very dry, brittle, 35 years of dyeing, hair. It wasn’t “strong” enough for her. I have 40ish hair with highlights, no gray, but coarse. It has softened my hair and makes it lie flat, not frizzy.

One of my favourite ways to let off a little stress is through my SL art. My usual practice is to add a new picture a day, but lately I’ve not had the will or time to carry this off. The reason for the loss of will and time isn’t because RL has got much more hectic, it’s because of what I now expect from my myself for my pictures. In the last week and a bit I’ve taken to smoothing every single pixelated line – every line which is jagged, even if only slightly. The end product is so much nicer when I do this, but of course no one notices the difference per se - they only notice when you don’t do it.

So now the vast majority of the time I spend working on a picture is spent at 400% magnification, smoothing away, being careful not to drag colour where it doesn’t belong, having a steady hand, and generally driving myself nuts. I used to spend most of my time on a picture playing with colours, light, brushes etc, and that was also time consuming but fun and creative - I still do it of course but only after I’m tired from endless smoothing.

This mostly mindless and time consuming process sucks the joy out of my pictures, and yet I feel I can’t post pictures that haven’t been smoothed now that I know the visual difference. The pixels happen even though I set my graphics to their highest and take high res snap shots, as best I can tell they are inevitable.

It’s more than just annoying, it’s physically painful! It hurts my wrist and my finger, and it hurts my eyes >.<

Perhaps you could help me find the joy again, by letting me know how to manage this without the tiny magnified and painful task. How do I get rid of pixelated edges..? I don’t want to use a overall blur or softening effect to achieve it – that’s overkill and can ruin the feel of the picture. Any advice appreciated!
