I’m on the writing team for this 48 hour film contest. I’m kinda excited. It should be fun. Crazy, but fun. We basically get told a genre, character, prop and line of text and 6pm on Friday and have to write a script, shoot the film, edit it etc and have it turned in by 6pm sunday. We had our first meeting yesterday and it went pretty well.

There’s no reason you would know this cuz I’ve never really divulged this info but I’m an aspiring screenwriter. I’m working on a film with my writing partner right now and I’ve also been working on my portfolio. I’ve written a couple of pilots and spec scripts and I’m just trying to immerse myself in the scene. I’m a newbie. Activities like this contest are fun.

I actually had a really jam packed weekend.

Friday night I just hung out with Joy and we ate food and watched tv. Nice and chill.

Saturday I was an overachiever. It was absolutely gorgeous and in the 70s so I think I must have felt motivated. I did loads and loads of laundry, went running, made a cake, donated a bunch of old clothes and stuff to the church next door to my house, hung out with Reisha and made a fancy pants lunch and drank margaritas, mixed records for like hours upon hours, hung out with Rocko and then djed with Dan at his night at Old Oak Tap later on in the night. Told ya I was an overachiever.

Sunday was rainy rainy rainy but I still managed to have a nice time going to breakfast with Amy and Jessica, then cozying up on the couch and watch a ridiculous amount of tv, then around 4ish went for tea and desserts with Melissa and then went to Reggie’s surprise bday party later that night.

All in all you would have thought I was actually an interesting fun person this weekend, instead of my usually boring boring boring old cow self. Good times.

I leave for Mexico today. I checked the forecast and it’s pretty much going to be 90 degrees the entire time we’re there. Vacay with my friends, best friend’s wedding, sunshine, sunshine and more sunshine. Nice.

I’m a little anxious about not writing in my blog. I know it’s dumb but I’m very OCD when it comes to things like that. I have consistently written in my blog 5 days a week since I started it in May and I hate looking at the calendar to the right and seeing empty spaces. I prolly shouldn’t be divulging my neurotic tendencies to you but I’ve already established that I’m kinda cuckoo so who cares. Anyways, lounging in the sun automatically trumps writing in my blog so I’m sure I’ll get over it.

Be back in business next Friday so brock out til then peeps!

I guess I’m in a vocals mood today.

I wonder how many silly Friday associations I can come up with for titles. I’m pretty sure I’m running out already.

So apparently my co-worker has had a nervous breakdown and that’s why she hasn’t been in for the past 5 days. Sorry to hear that but it still sucks that we’ve had to do her work all week.

Yay, the weekend’s here. The novelty is wearing off. I’m still excited but it’s not a shock anymore that I don’t work on the weekends.

I would like to include going to see the new Ricky Gervais movie as part of my weekend activities. It’s no secret that I have a crush on that dude. LOL. It’s an intellectual crush. I don’t want to make out with him or anything. I just think he is such a good writer and ridiculously funny. I laugh a lot. It’s an everyday part of my life. I just think a lot of things about life in general are super funny. He seems to point out those things and highlight them constantly and there are so few people who are able to focus on shit like that in an intelligent manner.

Some more jammers:

Submorphics – California Suite (I’m super into Greg’s stuff. I’ve mentioned that before. I know he’s my friend but I don’t just rate his stuff because of that. He became my friend through my loving his production and him living in my neighbourhood, therefore I am able to harass him by talking about his tracks constantly. It’s just the kind of dnb I like.

Yowza is such a nerdy word. I love it though. It’s been pretty muggy and hot these past couple of days. Could summer really be sticking around intsead of retreating back to murky, cold, rainy, 65 degree days?? I hope so.

Here’s a mix from one of my favourite people ever. Nuff said.

In the spirit of either, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em,” or “

In the spirit of either, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em,” or “What’s this mildly interesting thing on the side of the road that everyone is braking to look at? I’d better slow down to see,” Rob and I have started reading the New Testament aloud to each other before bed at night. You know, the bed we are sleeping in together before we are married. Yep, that one.

We tried doing this with the Old Testament once upon a time but gave up in frustration after discovering that most of Genesis is page after page of someone who begat someone who begat someone who begat fifty sons and lived to be 300 years old, followed by two sentences of Noah’s Ark.

Now if you’ve ever read the New Testament with an infinitely curious kind of guy who has no pronunciation skills whatsoever and who happened to be raised Jewish, you’d quickly learn that it is a slow-going process, interrupted by quite a bit of commentary. A few choice selections from the past few nights:

Rob (to Amanda, who is still in the bathroom): “So wait, who’s Maggie?”
Amanda (with toothpaste in her mouth): “You mean Mary?”
Rob: “No, Maggie. It says right here, ‘Maggie came bringing gifts.’”
Amanda: “You mean the Magi?”

Rob: “So, wait, there seem to be a lot of angels and things appearing. So do you think that this Matthew guy was eating a lot of peyote?”

Rob: “So, now, who are the twelve apostles?”
Amanda: “Well, there’s Peter, James, John, Matthew …”
Rob: “Ted?”
Amanda: “No, your mom’s seven Irish Catholic brothers were not named after the apostles.”

Rob (before every new chapter): “Is this the Sermon on the Mount?”

Rob (reading ahead): “So, now, when they went back to the tomb and Jesus wasn’t there, why didn’t they call the police? I feel like a whole lot of this could be explained if they had just looked for the body.”

Rob (cracking up): “Get a load of this: ‘If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away’?!?!?! [hysterical laughter] Oh man, I am so smoted.”

Rob (reading a familiar passage): “Ohhhhh, I saw this on the Simpsons.”

I was grateful that Rob fell asleep comforted by the words of Matthew 6:34. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

I think I’ll call him at five o’clock and quote me some Bible to see if I can get him home at a reasonable time.

Save me, Jeebus!
