The CW’s Supernatural has invited Cupid to come visit the Winchester brothers for Valentine’s Day. The show is currently casting the little winged cherub for a February episode titled, (what else?) “My Bloody Valentine.” (Guess that’s better than “Valentine’s Day Massacre”)

The mythical character is described as being “doughy, out of shape and naked” and greets everyone with enormous bear hugs. Well, how are Sam and Dean going to react to receiving hugs from a big naked fat man? And what brave actor’s going to actually respond to that call? I’m thinking Eric Stonestreet would be perfect if he weren’t already tied up on Modern Family. Nathan Lane would also fit the bill. Who else do you picture in the role? And if Cupid’s coming to the show, how do you hope he’ll influence Sam and Dean’s love lives?

P.S. The episode will also feature one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a withered and nasty old character named Famine. Sounds like he could use a big Cupid hug!

“We’re only two weeks into ‘Supernatural’s’ winter hiatus and many self-confessed Super-fans are already feeling separation anxiety; lucky for you, Inside TV has an exclusive spoiler fix to whet your appetites before the Winchesters make their ass-kicking return in an all-new episode on Jan. 21.

We recently caught up with ‘Supernatural’s’ most heavenly creatures, Misha Collins and Julie McNiven, to find out what we can expect from their angelic alter-egos next year. Fans of Collins’ enigmatic Castiel shouldn’t get too excited, though; heaven’s latest dropout can’t tell us too much about the first two episodes after hiatus — he isn’t in either of them!

“I’m off for two episodes,” he admits, typically coy on the subject of spoilers. “We’re shooting [episode] 13 and I’m in it, but I don’t know how much I can tell you …” But the real reason for his reticence soon emerges: “I can’t remember what happens in this episode at all, my mind’s a blank.”

We’re quite happy to jog his memory. The episode, titled “Back to the Future II,” actually features a rather more ‘Terminator’ plot line than anything involving Doc Brown. Julie McNiven’s rogue angel Anna reportedly makes a reappearance and, blaming Sam (Jared Padalecki) for jump starting the apocalypse, travels back in time in an attempt to kill the young John and Mary Winchester (the roles being reprised, we assume, by Amy Gumenick and Matt Cohen rather than Samantha Smith and the delicious Jeffrey Dean Morgan) before they can spawn poor, oblivious baby Sammy. Naturally, grown up Sam and Dean (Jensen Ackles) aren’t too crazy about the idea of being wiped out of existence before they’re even born, so they take a ride back to the past with Castiel to stop Anna from doing the deed. The time-travel apparently results in some killer nosebleeds and fainting spells for both our halo-wearers, but that’s another issue entirely – Collins even teases that Castiel “barely makes it” out of the episode alive; could it have something to do with his going “head-to-head” with McNiven’s Anna?

And what is McNiven’s response to these wild accusations? She’s every bit as cagey as Collins, but she’s at least willing to try and justify Anna’s somewhat shady perspective. “Everything Anna does is motivated by wanting to do the right thing, wanting to do what she feels is going to keep this apocalypse from happening,” she clarifies. “I see Anna as always doing what she thinks is right and she’s very strong about that and doesn’t want to hear anything otherwise. So that’s all I’ll say about that!“

McNiven is clearly enthusiastic about the episode, assuring the fans, “you won’t be let down. There’s lots of fun throws and tosses and a little bit of hand-to-hand combat, which I was so excited to do — it’s a lot of fun.” Judging by the hints McNiven drops, the door will be left open for Anna to return at the end of the episode, though the actress knows better than to guess at her character’s longevity.

“When you’re a recurring character — Anna doesn’t have to play a part in the apocalypse,” she reasons lightly. “It’s great to be there and I, of course, want to come back but I understand that the story is coming to a close and the story’s not about me … But there could easily be a spin-off or something, right?“

We suggest that perhaps she and Collins could form an angelic crime-fighting duo? “Yeah!” she nods enthusiastically. “We can call it ‘Cas and Anna: The First 1,000 Years.’ We could have like, 25 seasons.“

We also took the opportunity to consult Collins on the wacky rumor that’s been flying around online concerning the show’s landmark 100th episode. The CW’s PR people were quick to quash the reports of Jensen Ackles stepping behind the camera to direct the centennial celebration, but according to Collins, fans shouldn’t rule out Ackles’ directorial debut entirely.

“I’ve talked to him about it; he wants to direct, but the problem is, he’s in everything,” Collins explains. “He could shoot the episode — an episode that he’s in, he could direct it while we’re shooting, but the problem is doing the pre-production and post-production. Going out and location scouting and stuff like that takes him away from the set, so he’d have to basically not be in two episodes to make that work, or be in a limited role, and the writers … they don’t wanna do that!“

The writers (and perhaps some of Ackles’ admirers) might not be wild about the lack of Dean on screen, but ‘Supernatural’ has an impeccable track record when it comes to giving the fans what they want; if Ackles’ dream of directing is supported by the fan base, showrunner Eric Kripke would be hard-pressed to refuse. Make your voices heard, fandom!

Misha Collins co-stars as Castiel on CW’s “Supernatural”.

The Somerville native also built his house, started a software company, writes poetry and makes furniture.

“The trick is to do none of them particularly well,” Collins said in a telephone interview from Vancouver. “Clearly, I still do wonder what I’m going to be when I grow up. The career of film and TV actor, or at least my career, is one that has given me a lot of free time.”

When the 35-year-old actor landed the part last season, it was only supposed to run for three episodes. But both producers and fans responded to his character.

“The show sure does have an avid fan base,” he said. “For instance, I’ve got fan sites in China which I never had before, and that’s kind of nice to know that you got that out there. There’s a certain devotional enthusiasm that the fans have that I was only peripherally aware existed in the world, and now I’m thrust right into the middle of it, which so far has been quite entertaining and fun.”

Though he was born in Somerville, he spent time in Billerica and then moved with his mother to Northfield. He studied social theory at the University of Chicago and worked as a White House intern before deciding to pursue acting.

Collins clearly has a healthy sense of humor. Encouraged by the CW publicity team to start a Twitter account, he did (under mishacollins) but turned it into something unusual.

“I noticed that a lot of celebrities and people in the public eye were doing a lot of tweeting, which was really unbelievably mundane and idiotic, as if they were at the center of the world and everyone needed to know when they were going to the bathroom,” he said.

“I started playing on that as if I thought I was at the center of the world and that everything I was doing was incredibly important.”

A visit to his Twitter page, which has more than 31,000 followers, finds him giving fashion advice to Sarah Palin and working with Newt Gingrich on health-care reform.

This season, “Supernatural” has aired several entertaining stand-alone episodes, but Collins hinted that things will become more serious when the show returns with new episodes in January.

“The confrontation between (the angels) and Lucifer is definitely ramping up,” he said. “The mythology is ramping up. I think the season has been pacing itself out a little bit so as not to (spend all its energy) all at once. But I think that as we get toward the finale, it will get more intense.”

The big question looming over the show’s fifth season is whether “Supernatural” will return for a sixth season. Collins hopes so.

“But beyond that, I hear wildly different speculation from every camp and corner,” he said. “It’s certainly a possibility, but I don’t know.”

“Ghostfacers” (2008)

Another appearance by the two geeky ghost-hunters from first season episode “Hell House” was always on the cards, as Harry Spangler (Travis Wester) and Ed Zeddmore (AJ Buckley) were perfect comic relief foils for the Winchesters. And boy, did the writers do it well, bringing them back with a full team of spirit chasers – the eponymous Ghostfacers – to investigate a creepy house using handheld and night vision cameras in a spoof that probably made Most Haunted a little grumpy. The Facers bump into the Winchesters, suffer a loss and witness a frankly chilling birthday party (despite the humour, this has some very scary bits). But it’s the gleeful way the episode breaks the rules that makes it so brilliant, from characters swearing and having the words bleeped out to Dean giving the camera a (pixellated) finger in the opening credits. The Ghostfacers picked up their own fan following after this – it’s not hard to see why.

The only thing that’s kinda disturbin’ me here is the fact that… Apparently that episode will be a ‘Dean-Centric’ ep, so… What about Sam ? Doesn’t he have a role to play in all this ?!

With network shows going on hiatus till the new year, the holiday season is a ripe time to watch series that you haven’t caught up on yet or have missed entirely. Our Brian Truitt thinks the one show you should be watching if you’re not already is Supernatural, the CW horror drama starring Jared Padalecki (pictured, on left) and Jensen Ackles as a pair of demon-hunting brothers currently trying to stop Lucifer and the Apocalypse in the show’s fifth season. If you want to check out the DVDs over your holiday break, Brian says the past four seasons are as witty, emotional and well-written as this year, which has taken the show’s mythology to a whole new level. Yesterday, Brian talked with Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, and while we’ll have more from the interview online and on my Who’s News page around when the show returns Jan. 21, the two talked a little about the biblical goings-on that has made this season of Supernatural a must-see.

When Supernatural first began on the WB in 2005, the story was simple: Dean Winchester (Ackles) recruits his little brother Sam (Padalecki) back into the family business of monster-busting in order to find their missing dad (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). At that time, Kripke had mapped out his grand, five-season plan that would feature Dean getting sent to hell, Sam flirting with his demonic dark side, Lucifer appearing on Earth and the Apocalypse starting. But a funny thing happened on the way to the end of the world: the heavenly host. “I had a rule as late as season three where I said I didn’t want angels on this show because I didn’t want to do the Michael Landon Highway to Heaven thing,” Kripke says. But while puttering around his house one day, it hit him that angels might be a good idea after all. “Old Testament angels, like warrior angels who smite and angels who destroy cities: That could be a whole new real estate that we hadn’t explored yet,” he recalls. “Star Wars had that amazing off-camera scope, where you had this massive empire and this massive rebellion, but the story is about a farm boy, a princess and a pirate. The angels and demons gave us this massive off-camera scope that Sam and Dean didn’t always have be so closely involved with. It really threw the whole world into focus for us.”

And it led to what’s become the big theme of this season. God has essentially gone missing from heaven, the angels are kind of a corrupt bunch, and the archangel Michael has chosen Dean to be his “weapon” against the fallen angel Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), who wants Sam to be his vessel on Earth in this biblical face-off. “Once we started looking at the Lucifer/Michael story and realizing it’s a story about a loyal big brother and a disobedient little brother and their father and their relationship with him, we realized how closely it mirrored Sam and Dean’s story and that this is of course where everything had to culminate,” Kripke says. “This has always been a show that was primarily about family, and the thematics were always different aspects of family relationships: Do you obey your father or do you rebel? How much do you trust your brother? What’s more important, your family or your own personal ambition? We have this attitude that angels, demons, afterlife and the supernatural, it’s all just static, and that what’s really important is taking care of each other and taking care of your brothers, whoever they may be.”

Last night’s episode, the final one of 2009, featured Lucifer facing off against Sam, Dean and the good fallen angel, Castiel (Misha Collins), as Lucifer summoned the second of his Four Horsemen, Death. War was introduced earlier, and Kripke says that while Pestilence shows up near the end of the season, we’ll meet Famine in a February episode. “When you’re under the effects of Famine, you’re not necessarily hungry for food. You’re hungry for whatever that thing is you’re starving for, be it alcohol or attention or love or sex or Twinkies or heroine or gambling. We found a way to create a really quirky and disturbing and provocative episode because everyone at the end of the day is starving for something, and Famine brings that out.” Also, Michael will finally make his appearance in an episode where Sam and Dean go back and see their mom and dad as newlyweds. Michael’s “the one who kicked Lucifer’s ass the first time and is now gearing up for the rematch,” Kripke says. And the boys will visit heaven for the first time. “In case anyone wanted to know, heaven looks a lot like Vancouver,” Kripke quips. “At least we’ve been able to answer that question.”

And yes, God will definitely be appearing, Kripke reveals, probably in the season finale. “One of the storylines this season is about searching for God, and we want to answer that in our own way.” He says that that’s a tough casting call and chuckles at the suggestion of Christopher Walken maybe playing his Big Man Upstairs. “We’re just trying to figure out God’s motivation, and I tell you, that’s a weird place to be when you’re like, ‘So what’s God’s feeling in this scene?’ We’re talking about what should He be like as a character and what should His world view be. It’s like, when God talks, people listen. Whatever message He delivers, it’s going to be the message of the show.”

So if I refer to that little article, looks like that info was just a rumor… Which would be REALLY weird as TWoP is one of the most reliable sources on all things Supernatural… And I insist on that, every single info they’ve been posted about our show turned out to be right ! So… Maybe they got the info from somewhere/somebody else or… I don’t know…

Thing is… And I’m sorry to say this… But I think we should wait for more infos to come out and when I say “More Infos” I mean “More OFFICIAL CW Infos” and don’t worry as soon as we get news about this whole “Directing” thing, you’ll be the first to know…

SUPERNATURAL | WINTER WITH THE WINCHESTERS

It’s going to be a long lonely holiday season for Supernatural fans. Following last night’s emotional cliffhanger—two beloved characters died, then Death (one of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse) was exhumed—Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester will be missing from TV screens for a two-month hiatus. So we asked executive producer Sera Gamble to share some upcoming plot points.

We need some teasers to get us through a cold dark December without Supernatural. What can we look forward to?

Sera Gamble : We are continuing to deal with the overarching storyline of the Apocalypse. The personal cost for our boys is real; they will suffer in every possible way. This season has been really funny but also very dark. The Supernatural palate has escalated due to the Apocalypse. We’re able to tell stories on a slightly larger scale.

Can you give us some peeks at those stories?

SG : We have several closed-ended episodes. In the first [“Sam, Interrupted,” airing January 14], the boys are contacted by a hunter who had worked a case that was so traumatic that he went crazy. He’s been voluntarily living in an insane asylum and something not right is happening there, and he calls the boys. So Sam and Dean check themselves in. The challenge of an episode like this is that it’s well-trodden territory in horror movies and television shows, so we made sure we had a different take. You don’t have to be crazy to be a hunter, but it helps. That’s what Sam and Dean explore. We’re also doing our twist on a zombie story. It’s different from the Croatoan virus zombies. These are post-modern with lots of personality.

Don’t they chomp on flesh?

SG : I can’t say too much. [Laughs] They’re not necessarily bad zombies. At least not right off the bat. They’re zombies that make you think.

Will we finally see God?

SG : Not any time soon, but people are definitely looking for him. It’s an ongoing quest for Castiel [Misha Collins]. It’s vitally important for him and increasingly interesting for the boys. Historically Sam has more faith. The jury is out for Dean as to whether or not God currently exists. We might be the only show on the CW actively searching for God.

Has God been cast yet? Misha Collins told me it would be cool if it were Miley Cyrus.

SG : [Laughs] I can’t tell you anything about God.

What’s Lucifer’s next move?

SG : You’ll be seeing more of Lucifer. I really dig the actor [Mark Pellegrino]. You’ll learn more about how his taking Sam over figures into his plans. And how he came to find Nick, who’s his current [host]. And you will definitely start to understand the Archangel Michael’s perspective. He’s trying to become embodied and Dean is the only possible vessel for him. He’s not walking around in the here and now, so we have to be creative in introducing Michael. You will meet him.

Are there any holiday deconstructions this year, like you’ve done with the pagan roots of Christmas and Halloween?

SG : We will be doing a very dark and sinister Valentine’s Day episode. It’s an exploration of the nature of love and desire, which can be very destructive.

Anything else you can share?

SG : We’re also doing a body swap episode, Sam with a human—that’s all I will say. Fans have been clamoring for it for five seasons. The last thing I can tell you is that we will be further exploring the secrets of the Winchester family and Sam and Dean’s past. There’s more to reveal there.

Any Winchester family members showing up?

SG : Yeah, actually. You might get a flashback here and there.

Still hoping for a return from Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

SG : Let me tell you, we’ll do back flips the day we hear he’s available to play John Winchester again.

A Guy’s Point Of View — Welcome back y’all! Man oh man, I don’t know where to start… Well for those of you who didn’t watch tonights episode don’t read the review because I’m just gonna mention all the big stuff lol

First off, Jo and Ellen. Come’on how messed up was that? I feel robbed, like the writers brought back Ellen and Jo just for the sake of killing them off this season.. Damn Samantha Ferris is one helluva actress, when Jo passed away just before the Hellhounds came.. uhh damn my heart sank just a bit and her crying scenes just seem so natural and believable. Jo’s death, it was bloody and tragic, it was definately the way the ladies on SN die lol. On the note of well done performances, Mark Pellegrino he’s always a good watch I hope Nick could contain Luci till the end of the season :]

Mm mmm mm Satan tried to give Castiel the ol’ sympathy talk and a HA I say lol Castiel cannot be swayed you fools!! LOL

ALRIGHT! For those people who did not foresee the colt not working, your an idiot! LOL the whole time they’ve been mentioning “the colt has the power to kill any demon” and it was announced that Satan is an angel. Ok, ok sooo the story line, to me, has changed. Its not, will Sam and/or Dean give consent or will they kill Satan. Its changed to, How will Satan get Sam to give consent and When will Dean give permission for Michael. How will Satan make Sam say yes probably has to deal with the horsemen because to me they’re kinda just out there and I know they have a stronger role to play, a bigger end game sort to speak. Luci mentioned 6 months in detroit? I could be wrong but thats probably a ritual for when all horsemen are released or when they’ve all been killed that’ll force Sam to say yes, somewhere along those lines. Then! Vegas money on this everyone, Dean will say yes, because I think it was Gamble who mentioned that Dean will get powers so end of the season we will get our all out epic brother battle. But if this is the way things will play out what role will God have in everything??

Anyways, this episode wasn’t really a cliff hanger to me but 2 months?? Arghh thats a hanger itself and for the record, doesn’t the head-honchos know after along time people forget and lose interes– hahahhaha who am I kinding? I’ll still be here waiting and watching LOL Until 2010 OoOOoO take care!! :]

A Girl’s Point Of View — So last Review for the year 2009 ! The Mid-Season finale review ! And HELL I don’t know how to start it LOL Well yeah I think I know now…

Jo & Ellen - Well they sacrificed themselves so that the boys could kill the Devil, isn’t that awesome ? I mean no it’s not Literally “Awesome”, I mean it’s like… It’s like a hero’s death you know… Kinda like the deaths you can read in those comic books… If they really had to die then I’m glad the writers did it this way.. And “Kudos” To Samantha & Alona for their performances, they were great ! The way the knew they were gonna die, the look they shared before it finally happened and Ellen that had to watch her baby girl die in her arms, man that was so sad, and so nicely done by these actresses… I mean, really this was cruel and sad, and perfectly played so thanks for that girls, you were awesome and we’re gonna miss you !

Now on a brighter note : Crowly – I LOVE HIM !!!!!!!!! He was everything I wanted him to be ! I just loved the scene where he called the boys “Morons” LOL You know when he yelled out : “How about you don’t miss okay ? MORONS !!!” LMAO Really I know he’s a recurring character this season and I’m sooooo looking forward to his next appearance on our show ! MARK SHEPPARD ROCKED THE EPISODE !

Now Bobby, well he broke my heart when he was all alone in his house when the other hunters were out there fighting on the battlefield ! It was kinda like if he was useless, I was feeling bad for him… Then when he realized Jo wasn’t gonna make it, the look he had on his face, that was SO Sad !!! But I gotta admit, I’m glad he wasn’t one of the two characters that were supposed to die in this episode, cause I wouldn’t have been able to get over it, I just need Bobby around, maybe even more than the boys need him around…

As for Castiel, well… What can I say ? I can’t remember Supernatural before Castiel LOL he didn’t use the door handle… Not fast enough, automobile ? Too slow… And when he faced off Meg, saying Crowly said they were next on Lucifer’s “Give-them-hell” list, he really looked like Dean in his way to act… Am I the only one that’ve noticed that ? He was great, oh and for a second I really thought he was gonna kiss Meg, that would have been WAY TOO WEIRD LOL

Meg – Well I love her, Rachel is awesome as Meg Masters (Not saying she’s better than Nicky… But she’s a great Meg too ! The same way Nicky was a great Meg 04 seasons ago…)

Now let me talk about who I like to call “THE BOSS” : LUCIFER… Well what can I say ? I agree with rival… I hope Nick could contain Luci ’till the end of the season too ! Mark is just too awesome not to be mentioned here…

So now that “Death” has been released who’s next ? On the 04 horsemen, only 02 of them have been unleashed : WAR & DEATH… The 02 other ones that are missing are : CONQUEST & FAMINE… (Yeahhh I’m kinda “Studying” the book of Revelations since like… 02 Weeks now LOL I’m just curious LOL) I loved the rituel Luci performed to raise “Death” it was just awesome, speakin’ of awesomeness I absolutely loved the way the writers made the connection between Lucifer & Sam : A little brother that used to look up to his big bro, asked him to stand with him against their father, then the big bro got offended and called him a freak/monster just because he was different… MAN I’M TELLING YOU, LUCIFER WILL GET SAM’S CONSENT, I’M TOTALLY SURE HE WILL !!! lol anyways… Another horseman has been released and we’re one step closer to the End of the World… I LIKE THAT !!

Honestly, I really needed a mytharc focused episode and this one totally fits that status… So thanks to the writers for that !

I guess that’s pretty much it, right ?! Next review ? January 22nd 2010 !!!
