Monday December 21, 2009.  Why?  Well we had to put our loyal dog down.  She was suffering.  She had served our family well for over 13 years.  I found two pictures of her so far.  When I find more I’ll make more scrapbook pages to go with this one that I did up in dedication to her.

She was our watch dog.  She loved watching over the place and warning us of anything that was close by.  She was born April 15, 1996.

We got her when she was about  six weeks old.  We Got her from the Park County Fair from the Kawano’s.  We paid about $50 for her.  The kids picked her out because of the one dark spot over her eye that looked like a patch.

As a Australian Border Collie she had natural instincs that we loved.  Here is a collection of online descriptions for this breed that fits her personality:  Australian border collie shepherds are intelligent active dogs.  It is an intelligent working dog, possessing strong herding and guarding instincts. They have a strong instinctive desire to work closely and intensely with a human handler.  Loyal companions, these dogs are the happiest when having an ability to work all day.

When she was a young pup my cousin was over visiting.  Anyhow his kids and our kids were out jumping on the trampoline.  A snake (bullsnake) came into the yard and started hissing at the kids.  This young pup kept those kids from going up to the snake by growling and barking at the kids.  If they started to go forward she’d growl at them.  I remember being amazed that a young dog would sense danger and also protect the kids from it.

There is only one time that she didn’t stand guard. Again she was a young pup.  There was a mountain lion out back.  She made a run to the house with her tail between her legs…leaving me behind.

I had to nurse her back to health a couple of times.  When she was quite young she got Parvovirus.  I was able to nurse her back to health and save her life.  Another time she had flees so I put a flee collar on.  Bad mistake, she went “crazy”.  It caused her to act real odd and she was attacking weird things.  Then the fall of 2008 she again got very sick.  So I nursed her back to health.

A while ago…I noticed that her neck was larger than normal.  The vet suggested that it could be cancer and we needed to watch it.  Well since about August I noticed that Snip was loosing weight, that she was moving like an old person, and she just seemed weaker.  Recently she would look at me for a long time with those eyes it seemed to say she needed love.  Then she started to throw-up and it had dried blood and blood clots in it.  She became so weak we had to carry her.  So we decided that it would be best to have her put down so she didn’t need to suffer anymore.  She’s been to good to our family.  She was put down on Monday December 21, 2009.  We will certainly miss her presence!

She was in kidney failure and full of what we guess was cancer.

I nodded, slowly.

Slowly he moved to her, and instantly my throat tightened up. Although he seemed peaceful enough at this moment, there was very little I could do, if his mood changed.
This was not a situation I was used to being in.

He knelt down to her, and touched her hair. Broad fingers and a flat palm stroked through her soft hair, and started to caress the sm

ooth skin of Pia’s back. He was tracing a slow pattern with his fingertips and palm. She was still lying on her tummy, kind of curled up, but she responded to the touch

I knew she would.

After sort of a long breath in she moved, laying herself out a bit flatter and exposing herself so he had more of her back to caress, though she didn’t completely come around. She was still in a sort of dream-state, perhaps due to her fall.
I watched this happen, a spectator almost as if I wasn’t in the room. I felt a bizarre mix of powerlessness, arousal and control. My body was not registering him as a threat, despite the intimate way he was now touching my wife. I knew somehow if I raised an objection, he would back off.
But I didn’t raise one, and he didn’t back off.

This is from a short story I wrote; a combo ghost story, Hawaiian historical narrative ( a rather loose one ), and bit of erotica. as I have mentioned, I am working on the writing thing. Practice makes perfect, eh?

Debido a la presencia de remanentes del narcoterrorismo en la zona -conocida también como Oreja de Perro-, la autoridad explicó que están gastando “en seguridad o defensa los recursos de la Municipalidad que deberían servir para el desarrollo. Los comuneros están yéndose para Andahuaylas, algunos se van para SL, otros abandonan los estudios y están como esclavos sirviendo en Ayacucho o Andahuaylas”.

“A nivel de gobierno central, ninguna institución ni la prensa hablada, escrita, televisiva, nadie sabe cómo ha sucedido en Chungui. ¿Cuántos Putis, Accomarcas y Lucanamarcas habrá en Chungui? es una incógnita por descubrir sobre la violación de los derechos humanos”, agregó Huamán.

El alcalde recordó que es el distrito más afectado por la violencia según el informe final de la Comisión de la Verdad y Reconciliación (CVR). “¿Nos preguntamos por qué ha habido tanta barbaridad? Quizá por la falta de vías de comunicación. En aquel tiempo los pobladores tenían que caminar tres días para llegar a una feria. Fue una zona estratégica de la que se apoderaron tanto Sendero Luminoso como las fuerzas armadas. Estamos haciendo las gestiones pero nos dicen que es imposible, nos dicen que no hay dinero o que falta población (para las obras)”.

“Los jóvenes no tienen acceso a tecnología, no hay carreteras, no hay fluido eléctrico. Estamos en las tinieblas. ¿Por qué funciona la oficina de coordinación [de la alcaldía] en la ciudad de Huamanga? Debido a los sistemas como el SNIP y Seace [necesarios para gestionar obras]: en Chungui no hay banco, no hay servicios básicos, ni teléfono”, precisó.

“Si hablamos de educación y salud es peor todavía. No sé cómo el Gobierno focaliza las reparaciones a las víctimas. El Gobierno dice que hay que atender las zonas más afectadas de extrema pobreza, pero no ocurre. Nos hemos convertido en un pequeño ministerio de educación. El año pasado la Municipalidad ha pagado los sueldos de 19 docentes de los tres niveles. Este año estamos pagando 15. En ese sentido demandamos y no nos hacen caso. No sé qué hacer. En salud, igual: los técnicos no quieren ir porque estamos lejos, no hay vías de acceso. Los puestos de salud no están implementados, no hay doctores, nada. A las madres gestantes las estamos evacuando como en la época del incaico con chacanas, organizamos comisiones para llevarlas. Hemos exigido equipamiento de ambulancias y medicamentos, pero hasta ahora no ocurre nada”, relató el alcalde.

Huamán hizo alusión a un documental sobre Chungui del cual el IEP proyectó un adelanto. En un momento de la narración el corto se refirió al inicio de SL. “Justamente así inició. Estamos entrando a la segunda vuelta con la presencia de remanentes de SL porque no hay fuerzas del orden [en Chungui], nadie quiere ir, ni el Ejército ni la Policía Nacional. Felizmente estamos recién accediendo a justicia: hace dos años está funcionando la fiscalía y el juzgado”.

“Durante la violencia se ha desorganizado nuestras comunidades, de seis mil que éramos, sólo dos mil hemos quedado, pero no todos están allí: hay algunos en Lima, en Ayacucho, en la selva. Constantemente han estado viniendo los remanentes de SL, recientemente han alarmado, el mismo cuento están diciendo, y las familias comenzaron a migrar a distintos sitios”.

“El famoso camarada ‘Marco Antonio’ un día llegó, le dijimos que se identifique. Nosotros le hemos parado la guerra a ellos: desde marzo de este año día y noche estamos haciendo guardias. En vez de que nos preocupemos en el desarrollo de nuestra población y familia nos hemos convertido en pequeños policías nacionales o en Ejército: en patrulla, en servicio, en lista. A pesar de que hemos mandado informes al Ministerio de Defensa, al Ministerio del Interior: esa es la cruda realidad del distrito de Chungui”, describió.

“¿Qué futuro nos espera para el distrito de Chungui?”, cuestionó por último la autoridad edil.

Edilberto Jiménez, antropólogo, periodista y retablista ayacuchano, autor del libro que va en su segunda edición, agradeció a muchas personas que colaboraron en la publicación: en particular al actual alcalde, quien lo acompañó en largas y duras caminatas -en 1996 y posteriores- para buscar a las personas que contaron sus historias, sus pérdidas y sus dolores, y que luego él convirtió en dibujos, relatos escritos y retablos.

Los testimonios recogidos por Jiménez y por Felipe Degregori en el distrito más golpeado por el conflicto armado interno sostienen que la violencia además produjo el fin de la organización de las personas. Luego de la violencia continúan diferentes rencillas, enfrentamientos. Lo único que une a los chunguinos es su fe en su patrona, la Virgen del Rosario.

Una de las fugas (cantos) de Chungui recogido en el 2000 por Jiménez dice así:

al encontrarse con el río de Chungui
