This was, officially, the Worst Thanksgiving Ever. Snoop never seemed to throw off her cold, and by Tuesday the congestion and cough had been paired with a high fever, extreme lethargy, and stomach ailments. We took her to the pediatrician, who checked her lungs and white blood cell count, gave her a strep test, which was negative, and put her on an antibiotic. On Wednesday the fever was manageable, and she seemed to rally a bit, except for a marked loss of appetite. GB worked busily in the kitchen all day Thursday, turning out an amazing meal which Snoop seemed somewhat interested in, but a bite of mashed potato and a sliver of turkey didn’t stay down, and then she didn’t want anything else.

By yesterday morning she was adamantly refusing food or drink, and the fever was back. Our attempts to give her Pedialyte in a syringe obviously weren’t sufficient. Her throat was red and sore, and she didn’t want to swallow. I have never seen her so listless and lethargic. Our daughter was gone, replaced by a limp rag doll who only wanted to sleep on one of us, sweaty and exhausted.

We took her to the pediatrician again and by the time we got there her fever had soared to almost 104. She lay in our laps with a white face and tangled, sweaty red curls, disinterested. The doctor and nurses were all extremely concerned, and told us that we had to get fluid down her before they could judge whether she needed to go to the hospital. GB & I sat in the office for 4 hours, giving her 5 mL of Pedialyte every few minutes via oral syringe.  The doctor needed to check her ketone levels, but Snoop was so dehydrated that it took a full 8 ounces of Pedialyte laboriously administered before they could get a urine sample.

Her ketone levels were okay, signaling she didn’t need an IV, and the flu test was negative. Some kind of virus, the doctor said. Possibly two viruses laid on top of each other – the cough and the runny nose, and then the high fever and extreme sore throat. After the Pedialyte, Snoop was more alert, looking around her, grouchy and complaining about her ordeal, and well enough to give the pediatrician an excessively dirty look which brought the only bit of humor to the day. The doctor told us that what we had basically done that afternoon, hydrating her, was like putting her on an IV bag, and none of us wanted to have to go to the hospital unless it was absolutely necessary. She sent us home with the caveat that we had to get at least another 8 ounces of Pedialyte down her by bedtime, and if we couldn’t, or if her fever went back up, then we would have to call the doctor on call and likely go over to Beaumont Hospital.

So, we did it. Snoop slept on one of us all afternoon and evening, so exhausted that we had to wake her  up every few minutes to give it to her. She was weak and angry with us; she would roll her head and refuse the syringe when she saw it coming, spit or dribble it out. All three of us were covered in sticky grape-flavored Pedialyte by the end of the day, and I was stressed, frazzled, and in tears, sure that we would be at the hospital at some point. By bedtime, though, we’d gotten most of it down her, and she was cool to the touch.

This morning, she woke up cool and hungry. She took about 10 ounces of Pedialyte voluntarily, and ate baby cereal, applesauce, and some banana, the most she’s eaten at one sitting since Tuesday night. Then she went back to sleep. I am hoping we have turned a corner, but she’s rallied before this week, and then bounced back to scary illness, so we still can’t help but worry that maybe we aren’t out of the woods yet.

* Soms is het leuk in De Boîte. Vandaag werd ons een heel pakket Red Bull Energy Shots toegestuurd. Of de Kuikens nu effectief eens gewerkt hebben dankzij de drank wiens geur mij altijd doet denken aan die antibiotica die ge als kind moest nemen en waar ge elke dag een microbeke mocht uitprikken weet ik niet. Ik heb mijn Energy Shot gepakt en ben vertrokken. Overuren opnemen, wetenie. Maar ik heb wel nog eerst een ‘luxepraline’ in mijn mond gestoken, want ook de Lidl vond vandaag de perfecte dag om ons wat goodies op te sturen. Over dat ‘luxe’ valt wel te discussiëren, maar ge moogt een gekregen paard niet in de bek kijken naar het schijnt.
* De geplande voorraadkast-die-eerst-uitgemest-moest-worden heeft de taak op zich genomen. De oude frigo, waarvan ik al acht jaar dacht dat het een Smeg is, ook. Maar het is dus geen Smeg eigenlijk, ontdekte ik vandaag. Hoezo, het ding in geen acht jaar afgewassen? Het is niet dat het nog werkte he, of dat het een duidelijk doel had vóór vandaag, behalve stof staan vergaren. Wedden dat ons moeder morgen binnenspringt en zegt dat ik die frigo eens zou moeten afwassen?
* Ik heb bij het uitmestenvan de snoepkast een pak Kings gevonden dat maar goed was tot 2002. “Wóónden wij hier toen eigenlijk al wel?” was de niet zo heel onterechte vraag van de sidekick. Ik zal mijzelf ten gepaste tijde daarvoor straffen zene, gene paniek.
* Het vorige impliceert dat ik Grote Boodschappen heb gedaan om de volgende maand tijd uit te sparen wat betreft korte shoppingtrips. Ik heb die met haar twee dingen voorgelaten aan de kassa. Uit compassie. Die staat daar morgen terug voor nog eens twee dingen, de arme trien. Ik niet zene! Maar ik heb wel mijn zetels moeten platleggen en hier en daar wat puzzelen. Eigenlijk heb ik dus in het kader van efficiënt timemanagement een grotere auto nodig. Time is money.
* Mijn lief heeft daarjuist kwaad gezegd dat ik belachelijk bezig was en ik moest daarmee lachen. Maar ik vind het wel treurig dat niemand mijn zwarte humor begrijpt. Zelfs als ik lastig ben, loop ik nog te zeveren en moppen te tappen, maar niemand schijnt dat te kunnen vatten. Humor, was dat niet het überteken van intelligentie?
* Snoop was bij de noorderburen en ik wist het niet. Dat zuigt nogal.
* Ik heb gisteren alle achterstallige Californications gezien en nu vertoon ik ontwenningsverschijnselen. Ik zou ze vandaag nog eens allemaal terug willen bekijken, maar dan gaat er iemand vinden dat ik belachelijk bezig ben en er de humor niet van inzien. Hoewel hij gisteren ook heel hard dicht lag toen Moody over een plantenbak viel.
* Blondine en ik hebben op Facebook een heel mysterie opgezet over Thais gazettenpapier. It’s almost a hype. En dan hebben we en plein public nog met geen woord gerept over dat andere project. We so rule. Bescheidenheid is geen teken van intelligentie. Weten wat ge waard bent wel. Sms’en over erotic nuts ook.
* La mama is officieel kankervrij. Ik ga daar ene op drinken binnenkort. Eén van die dertien flessen wijn die ik blijkbaar in huis had zonder het te weten.
* De uitspraak “Dat verdient een pruim” vond ik wel te pruimen.

Snoop appeared to be rallying, and then on Monday she developed a stomach bug and a fever, so she has been under the weather and lethargic these past three days. Her appetite has been feeble and she is as listless as I have ever seen her. I took her to the pediatrician yesterday, who tested her white blood cell count, and looked in her ears and throat, and ran a strep culture. Nothing. Stymied, she gave me a prescription for antibiotics (“in case her fever continues to go up”) and we were discharged into the afternoon.

Last night, all she wanted to do was sit or lay on one of our laps and watch ‘Sesame Street.’ We took turns sponging her forehead with a cool cloth and trying to entice into some sips of Pedialyte. Today, the fever is still there, the appetite still gone, and although her demeanor is a little more perky, she is still clearly not herself.

We were supposed to head up north to my parent’s house for Thanksgiving, but we scotched the plans and decided to stay close to home to make sure Snoop is on the healing path and if she isn’t, so we can be close to our pediatrician on call. GB ran out today to try to find a last-minute turkey and some trimmings, and while Snoop naps and pushes food around on her tray, we are trying to get the house decorated for Christmas, and tackle some projects.

I am checking the Blackberry to stay close to work, where we are of course in the middle of one of the horrible and stressful financial planning cycles that are the entire reason I am employed. I am making applesauce, and the cinnamon and cider scented candles are burning, and the cats are napping in quiet corners. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and please send some healing thoughts our way, for our tired little redheaded girl.

Asking the question “What’s My Name?” back in 1993, all can raise their hands now and answer Snoop Dogg as he has become a household name.

While promoting his 10^th studio album, Malice-N-Wonderland, the rapper was able to catch up with CNBC and have a sit down discussion with Maria Bartoromo as he spoke on his beginnings entering the game.

“The first thing I wanted to do was create my own sound and diverse look that was non-similar to anyone that was out or anyone that came out before me.  I wanted to also be different and diverse with the dialect that I used.  I didn’t want to sound like anybody and I didn’t want to use the same words.  I just had a strategic plan as far as just being original and just trying to find out could I really do something that was never done before?”

Most artists lack the balance to maintain the music and the money as Snoop said that he was unable to initially handle the politics of the game.  He was, however, able to trudge his way through.

“It was told to me that it was show business.  I always had the show, but I never had the business and once I got the business, now I’m the kind of show business.”

Never one to forget those that lent a helping hand, he made sure to give Dre a shout-out in regards to how he was able to gain such heavy exposure with the mainstream.

“Not for me because I had Dr. Dre assisting me, who is one of the greatest producers of all time and I basically just rode his coat-tail and performed to the best of my ability.  Through him, I shined and people recognized and they loved me after that.”

Able to see the ramifications of negativity, he added that his lifestyle as a youth made an abrupt transition once he was able to realize the potential that he had musically.

“I dibbled and dabbled into crime in the beginning stages of my adolescence as a young man and once I did I seen that was not the route I wanted to take.  I felt that I had too much intelligence and too much mind power to just continue to belittle myself and be put in that position so once I woke up and realized that there was more to me, I maximized my strength and started studying the great musicians and studying the great business-minded people so I could become who I am today.”

With almost 20 years in the game, Snoop has failed to miss any major steps in his career that he hasn’t been able to bounce back from.  As time progresses forward, Uncle Snoop is one that will remain timeless as he remains persistent with building his name and staying a commodity in today’s industry of entertainment.

Last night,Dick Clark and ABC television hosted the annual American Music Awards, where all kind of crazy and cool happenings went on,and Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert still stood out.

I like it how every year some new act feels the need to shock and push the limits of the public morals to the breaking point, and this year the winner for that category is Adam Lambert.

Adam,the runner-up for last seasons American Idol competition,decided to out do Katy Perry who kissed a girl, or at least had a hit record about it, by kissing a guy on stage.

And, as if that was not enough to get his point across, he then grabbed a male dancer, and had him kiss,…or do something like that, to his crotch. Many guys have done this on stage before,except with women.

I think the best one was that awards show on Spike TV hosted by Jamie Foxx,when he grabbed Halle Berry’s nice behind and laid a good kiss on her…remember that.

…Oh yeah…as usual,like clockwork…Lady Gaga got down!…she is the most interesting performer out there currently, and whenever she performs…I simply can not take my eyes off of her,because of her performances.

She has way more concept than the rest of her fellow performers,and I can tell she is having a big influence on others stage shows. Good going Gaga….

As mentioned two weeks ago when I covered 36 Chambers, there was a slew of albums that I looked forward to in the fall of 1993. The one I (and my brother) awaited most of all was the debut of arguably the most popular artist of that year, Snoop Doggy Dogg. Even with a total of no albums to his name, everyone knew who he was on the strength of his appearances on The Chronic. With Dr. Dre producing it and the momentum Snoop had, Doggystyle was almost a classic in our minds before we’d even heard it.

So on November 23rd (after a few delays), it finally dropped, and shit was nuts. This was the first time I recall everyone knowing what the release date was, and remembering to pick it up that day. I knew this one dude who came to school late that day, because he wanted to hit the mall and buy the tape first. It was just that big of a deal, especially since we’d been lookin’ forward to it for almost a year. I didn’t get to hear it until later that day, when my brother came home from work. As we’d usually do back then, we went in his room and put it on the big stereo. 16 years later, I’m still lovin’ that shit.

Doggystyle was the kinda album that a lot of artists try hard to make, but only a few actually do. It was something that you could play almost any song from and people knew what it was. It wasn’t one of those things that you play and they only know the singles, or only know certain tracks. Almost everyone I knew, from lil’ kids around my way to my oldest uncle, was rockin’ with that entire shit from front to back. It was like every song on there was a single, because joints like “Ain’t No Fun” were almost as popular as “Gin & Juice” was.

I never thought Snoop was the most super-lyrical MC in the world or anything like that. However, that shit only matters but so much when the songs are on the quality level of those on Doggystyle. His strengths weren’t in word-for-word lyricism. They were in his flow and making everything sound just right- something that a lot of rappers still neglect to this day. Snoop and Dre (with assists by Kurupt, Daz, Rage, Nate Dogg, Warren G, etc.) were putting together songs. At a time when artists were still conscious about not being on the pop or R&B side, they followed “pop” guidelines and made hard music with it. That combination worked more than a lotta artists probably knew it could, and it changed the game in that respect.

Doggystyle is almost perfect. The only thing that always irked me a lil’ bit was that I don’t think any album needs TWO intros. Outside of that minuscule gripe, there’s little that I could say on the negative side. I recall reading a few reviews that seemed to call it a disappointment, and one even suggested that it was more of a victory for Dre as a producer than it was for Snoop as an artist. Not sure about all that, but I’d love to hear more “disappointing” albums sound that good, and I do feel this was Dre’s best production work (followed closely by The Chronic and Niggaz4Life).

Snoop Dogg has been on and off ever since, but 1993 was his year- he had everyone checkin’ for him, he made a great album, and he was really one of the first (if not the first) to do astronomical first-week numbers with over 800,000+ sold. Even an impending murder case (which he beat in ‘96) wasn’t enough to stop what was goin’ on. Snoop n’nem came correct with every beat, verse, and hook, and it paid off. Even though it was 16 years ago, and he’s managed to stay relevant in pop culture through other songs/endeavors/etc., don’t get it twisted- Doggystyle is the reason he’s here.

Death Row Records made headlines yesterday for a court battle headlined by the company’s new CEO, Lara Lavi. The date in court is now over and details of the proceedings are coming to light.

Death Row Records CEO, President Lara Lavi has just been granted a temporary restraining order against the Canadian financial group, New Solutions Financial Corp and its CEO Ron Ovenden by the New York Supreme Court County of New York.

The court order will keep outside interests from attempting to act on behalf of the iconic hip-hop label, Death Row Records, and help keep the company on the road to its continued success.

Lara Lavi made a statement on the day in court  saying,

“I have been very consistent in my message – I am determined to make Death Row about the artists, their music and their fans while staying grounded to assure the company’s future. Thus, I am taking the necessary legal steps to ensure this outcome.”

Founded in 1991 Death Row housed some of the highest profile hip-hop acts of the 90’s including Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Death Row was purchased out of bankruptcy by Lavi in January 2009.

The court proceedings ended amicably, with Rob Scarcello the Senior Vice President of Sales Marketing with E-1 saying,

“E-1 signed its deal with Lara Lavi, the CEO, President and managing member of Wideawake Death Row Entertainment LLC on the strength of her vision, business sense and goodwill in the entertainment industry. I look forward to our continued working relationship.”

He recently sat down with Angela Yee and cleared some things uo. Here’s what he said about his “alleged” diis towards Weezy.

I didn’t used to hate winter, before I had a child. I used to get sick of the snow and slush, and being in the dark all the time, but I didn’t HATE it with the abject mingled terror and passion that I do now.

But then I had a child, and I still had a job, so then there was day care, and THEN came winter, and then came the sicknesses.

All minor, luckily, last winter. We were so fortunate that she was never entirely sick with anything serious. However, we were never so fortunate that we could go more than 2-3 weeks without some new thing. Sniffles, mostly, but when Snoop gets the sniffles she coughs. And coughs. And COUGHCOUGHCOUGHCOUGHCOUGH – HACK. All night long.

Every 2-3 weeks last winter, I had her at the pediatrician. “She’s COUGHING!” I would say anxiously, wanting to weep, every 2-3 weeks. Every 2-3 weeks, the doctors would obediently listen to her lungs, and tell me there wasn’t any wheezing, just a cold, just a virus, just a bug, just ‘day care-itis’, and to use a cool mist humidifier, and prop her mattress up, keep her hydrated, and blahblahblah. Well-intentioned palaver, none of which was helpful, and none of which soothed her one bit during the long nights where every cough went through the house and through my brain like a gunshot (I can’t take credit for this bit of wordsmithing, I read it in the NYT book review but was stunned at its accuracy and resonance.)

So now she is sick with her first winter cold, and despite it all she is an absolute champ, a trooper who still giggles and plays and runs around the house like a charming terror, and never views me with any reproach over her discomfort, her chapped little tomato nose. Tomorrow she goes BACK to the doctor, and here we go again. Yes, I know she’s not wheezing, I know to use the humidifier, I know. I know that she will get lots of these sicknesses in the wintertime and it’s either now or later, if she weren’t firming up her immune system now, she’d be doing it when she started school, I know. Yes. I know.  THANK YOU.

I went to the pharmacy to stock up on the usual useless remedies that do nothing for her but make me feel better. Vapor bath, a vapor nightlight. A special fancy digital thermometer because I have never learned the motherly trick of telling if she is feverish by feeling her forehead. And earplugs for me, because when she is sick and coughing all I do is lay in bed, listen to her, and spin. I spin webs of what-ifs. What if she coughs all night? What if she is really sick? What if I can’t sleep? I have a business plan and SOX audits and two presentations to do before Thanksgiving. Can I take time off if she really is sick? Is she feeling bad? Am I a bad mother? What if she is really sick and I only have x number of paltry days of vacation left? What if she is really sick and I use up all of my vacation and then have to take unpaid time?  Does she have consumption? Maybe she’s allergic. Can I just keep her home until June? I’m probably a bad mother. I hate day care. I hate my job. What if she is really sick and I don’t know it? What if she gets kicked out of day care? I suck, I am a useless employee and a worse mother. What if she is really really sick, I use up all my vacation, I have to take unpaid time, and I get FIRED? Could we live in a box somewhere? Can you use a humidifier in a box?

This seems sort of laughable when I write it all out but I guarantee you every single one of these thoughts crosses my mind with lightning swiftness every time that sad little persistent hack rings out through our upstairs, through two closed doors and earplugs and the pillow over my head.

I hate winter.

Au sujet de l’album (auquel on peut prédire une touche assez/très commerciale si déjà il s’en défend):

Then I have to sit back and say, ‘I’m a business, so I’m gonna make records that can help me in this business.’ I have to make radio records, but when I don’t care, y’all in trouble.”

Et, comme tout bon fumeux de pot n’est rien sans son sofa et des piles de téléséries à se taper, il nous gratifie d’un commentaire pas-si-désintéressé sur True Blood:

“I love that show. I wish I could be on it. I’d be a hell of a vampire, don’t you think? So what’s happenin’? True Blood, get at me — Snoop Dogg wants to be a vampire.”

What with Chase and Status working with Rihanna and Snoop Dogg borrowing Eastern Jam the very real spectre of the dubstep virus infecting US R&B seems to be raising it’s head.

This would be pretty unique, as for all the UK underground’s genius, it’s never really conquered the US in such a way…. who knows if it will happen, but producers like Joker with his track Purple City are certainly making the kind of track that might just make it….

So on to today’s track… not 100% sure on the vocal, but loving the style on Guido’s new track which is out now….
