Of course we have no clue what kind of controversies lie ahead for many of the K-Pop Artists nowadays but put aside that, who does everyone think stands a chance of having a longer career as a group? Of course, some may pull out to go solo but who are some of the groups you think will stay together for a long time like…DBSK, although we don’t know what will happen to them right now. The gap between them is growing wider and we don’t know if they will be able to reach 6 years on December 26th.

In my opinion, I think it would be:

Big Bang:

They seem to be the group that everyone loved in 2009. Only earlier this year did I get what all the fuss was about when I first knew the group back in July 2008. Not only do they have powerful stage presence together, but they can also work just as hard with their solo careers, I still feel that G-Dragon’s solo promotions went on longer than expected. Proximately 4 more years, we’ll see.

SNSD:

I’m not fond of any of the members but I have to say their songs are decent and catchy. They seem to be proving worthy of their name with each member different in their own style and slowly taking center stage. That doesn’t mean they could last forever, I give them 3 more years after I heard a rumor their contract runs out in 2012. In my opinion, So Nyeo Shi Dae do not act as themselves on TV (meaning I think they are fake) however, showcasing the generation of girls in Korea with their name, I feel like they have yet to make a stable impression on me and other fans.

Wonder Girls:

One of the most missed groups this year taking an advance to the USA and China. Now, if the Wonder Girls can really breakthrough to America, they can prove to be a group that lasts longer than most groups do, probably the same as Shinhwa whom I understand have gone on for more than 10 years now.

2NE1 (possibly):

I have to say, 2NE1 left a big impression on me this year, their song, Fire rose up to number 1 in charts and have to be the first group I know that only debuted weeks before winning their first number 1. The problem is, Park Bom and Dara are older than CL and Minzy – the gap between Minzy and Bom is 10 years and I’m sure Bom and Dara wants to get married sometime before she hits 30. To that extent, I would say, 3 years or so. But it’s still too early to tell.

SHINee:

SHINee shine brightly in my eyes and they seem to have good teamwork and seem comfortable with each other despite their differences! Thw worst that has happened to them was Swine flu which has hit three of the members but they have managed to pull through. And Ring Ding Dong has got to be one the most addicting songs that I loved from SHINee next to Replay (Boom Track). If they carry on with songs like this, I estimate

They are aiming to be Asia’s Pop/Dance group and honestly I can say that if Sulli and Victoria’s vocal abilities improve and Amber gets more singing and acting parts, they may achieve it. However, SM has yet to give them an actual pop/dance song that will not be decent or dull after a while a.k.a Mr Boogie. SM representatives, if you read blogs, put Mr Boogie on their next album and make them comeback with a new song. It’s too early to tell for them, let’s see how they fare in 2 years time.

Brown Eyed Girls:

I guess because for the last 3 years, they have not been seen as an idol group until now, Abracadabra was a big boost to their popularity and earned them mutizens and other awards. I think with their vocal skills, Brown Eyed Girls probably have a longer chance than others of probably 5 years or more, but that’s just my opinion on things.

You’ve probably noticed the amount of winter clothes pictures I have picked. But also notice how I did not put my favorite group, 2PM there, well with the Jaebeom situation not dying down for even a week or so, it’s hard to tell how 2PM will fare in the future, it affects me in a way to question if they will live long so I’m not totally sure about them.

Hmmm, I’m not sure who else. You guys can decide too.

IRIS & Music Bank comes in second. watch if you haven’t! watch even if you don’t like any of them, you’ll come to like them. because i didn’t actually like Yuri & Hyunah at first but i loved it when Narsha & Yuri went out to trade their stuff for a rice cooker, and what they said to the woman who gave it to them. also when they shared noodles and when Yuri made porridge for Hyunah. and in the other episode when they called their grandparents. too bad that it never got to Narsha & Yuri’s turn. but i was totally crying with Hyunah & Hara when they called theirs and when Sunny was talking about her grandparents. ): yeah i know i cry alot, but i cried for someone i didn’t exactly like! but of course after that i was okay with her. can’t wait for the next ep. it’s the one where they have Yuri’s yoga lessons for morning exercise and Narsha’s complaining. haha.

oh btw. SM shippers are probably happy now. i’m making huge progress with SNSD! still love Seohyun the most, and Hyoyeon too. but thanks to IY, Sunny & Yuri are on the list too. together with Yoona & Sooyoung. 3 more to go! i’m loving Yoona’s voice, but don’t you think they should give Sooyoung & Sunny more screen time? (: and i’m pretty much a fan of Sohee now. Sunmi & Sohee are so cute together. haha. i told you it must have been the effect of december!

This event is, well, exactly what the title suggests. However, it is not only the first kpop convention of the Philippines; this convention is the first of its kind, period. You’ve gotta give these fans props for moving their fan loyalty from the internet to an offline event.

All ticket proceeds will go to Gawad Kalinga, a Catholic-driven organization that aids victims of poverty and natural disasters with a variety of assistance programs for education, food sufficiency and other venues of support. Not only is this the place to fangirl to your heart’s content – you can help out the Filipino community as well!

For the longest time now, Kpop fans have been scattered all over the Philippines, with only the internet as a place of convergence. For the longest time, Filipino Kpop fans have been staying within the fringes of the global kpop fanbase. Forums, groups, and private meetings could only go so much. Now, for the first time ever, we present to you the first ever Philippine Kpop Convention, an event that boasts of being the largest gathering of Kpop fans in the country. Local FCs finally unite under the banner of one event that aims not only to bring Kpop fans together, but to support a cause that would help less fortunate children through Gawad Kalinga.

SNSD was awarded a ‘Korean Cultural Entertainment’ award.

They were awarded at the ‘17th Korean Cultural Entertainment Awards’
on the 30th of November from 5pm at Seoul, YeoUiDo 63 City Hall.
The ‘Adult Music’ award went to Jang YoonJung.

The ceremony was hosted by singer and composer Jung WonSoo,
singer Ha MyungJi, 2007 Miss Korea Park GaWon, MC Shin YoungIl and celebrity Han DaMin.

SNSD won the ‘Teen Musical Artist’ award, along with FT Island, NoRaJo and
performed a celebratory concert.

Song SeungHun was awarded the ‘Talent’ award. Kim NamJoo was awarded
the high distinction ‘Talent’ award.

Yoon SangHyun and Yoon SungEun received excellence awards, Lim JooHwan
and Cho SeungJoon won the ‘Male Newcomer’ awards, Yoo HaNa and Cho JungSun

Choi SooJong and Kim HeeAe hosted MBC’s anniversary special ‘2009 New Life to Children.’
The event was opened at KyungKiDo IlSan MBC Dream Center Public Hall.

‘SNSD’ was invited to perform a stunning performace.

The MBC ‘New Life to Children’ first began broadcasting in 1990.

A fan account of this week’s recording of Strong Heart has been going around and it’s got a lot of people buzzing.

On a segment of the show, SNSD / Girls’ Generation leader Taeyeon allegedly revealed that she was going through a lot of struggles and hardships as SNSD’s leader and has decided to step down from her position as leader and take on the role of a normal member of SNSD.

Of course being the leader does not bring any privileges or rights, but as we all know (see 2PM) a leader is necessary for every group both physically and emotionally. Will someone step up to take the role or will the 9 girls operate as one unit and stay leaderless?

Keep in mind that this is all just a rumor so far, but the news is getting quite a bit of attention.

As reported earlier, SNSD did a recording for Strng Heart and theres a rumour going around that has been gaining a lot of attention from a fan account.

First off, thanks to Rizky (crazy51) for IMing me to tell me about this. Had a haert attack at first but really nothing major This is what she wrote on the discussion board on our chat:

s no longer the leader of SNSD. She felt so burdened being a “leader” that in the end, the other 8 let her free. So SNSD has no leader from now on.Hmm. Well, I guess it doesn’t change anything actually. Taengoo once said how she never felt like a leader and how everyone on the group lead each other in a way.

 

So yeah, I just hope that lil pervy dork will have less stress from now on…

No worries, she’s still in the group But, I think it’s just me, but for snsd, I never saw the true necessity of a leader. Maybe when they were first starting out they needed it, but now that they’ve all matured and grown up as a group together, as fans we see that everyone is their own leader in a unique way. They lead each other in their own style. Like I said, it’s the title that put stress on Tae. Many people think, “oh shes the leader. she gotta do this and that and that and blah”. With the title gone, hopefully it’ll relieve her of this burden. This isn’t to say leaders are totally unnecessary. I’m sure one can argue the importance But I think I’m so used to seeing in like the American pop culture, we never see a “leader”.

Regardless, when she WAS leader though, she did an absolute amazing job. This isnt to say shes gonna kick back and be lazy now of course

I hope people don’t overanalyze this just yet. According to the Strong Heart acct Taeyeon said she was talking with the girls about hardships of being the leader and they agreed she can be free of the title, it’s not like Taeyeon stepped up and announced that she will quit you know. And we don’t know if this is something official or it’s just one simple honest talk from those girls’ 5 min sessions.

 

The account was out last week and soon fans started to speculate and worry like on this thread now so they decided to delete the account and asked not to pass it around, which is why I didn’t talk about it last week. I guess it got leaked again today.

I think this whole idea is more about girls saying “Hey Taengoo don’t worry we’ll all share the duties and be leaders with you together”

Another account said she didn’t talk about this as if it was a big deal so let’s not worry too much about it for now and just wait for the show~ She sang that popular carol by the way “chestnuts on the roasting fire…”

I’ve lost count of the number of competitions they’re hosting – I mean, a idol award contest, singing contest and even Kosplay contest? You Filipinos are sure lucky to have such a kpop-rich event like this under your belt! Make sure to grab your tickets quickly and head over to the Star Mall this Saturday for some kpop goodness!

Disclaimer: I know there are many, many more girl groups than the ones I have listed here.  I know I missing some of the big ones like Kara and T-ara.  But I don’t care.  This is a ranking of the ones I’ve heard.

It’s been almost a year since the last installment into my TOP! series, so I figured I would do another.  I’ve been really into Kpop lately, so here’s a ranking of the top 7 (for part 7!  hahaha I’m so witty) Kpop girl group that I’ve listened to (boys shall come later, fear not).

7. f(x)

Everything about this group strikes me as blah.  Sure, “Chocolate Love” was catchy, and some parts of “Chu~”, but it’s all been done already in the Kpop world.  I mean, really, they’re the ugly duckling (literally) of hip hop girl groups.  If I wanted to hear something like them, I can listen to 4minute.  At least they don’t have an ugly rapper who refuses to wear makeup and wishes she was T.O.P.  I mean wut?

6. After School

This group got notice from Japanese fans pretty quickly by their cover of Morning Musume’s “Love Machine.”  Albeit it is my favorite version of the song I’ve heard yet, everything else they have out is… well, just like f(x).  Old.  The groups that came before them doing the same stuff they do do it much better, I must say.  After School’s just a little dull.

5. 4minute

4minute’s okay.  I neither really like them or dislike them.  Some of their music is pretty good (“Hot Issue” for example), but I feel like this group should have a lot more rapping with two rappers, but they don’t.  I feel like, if anyone, this group would really be the “female Big Bang” (in contrast to 2NE1) if they got the right producers.  What really catches me about this group is HyunA, who used to be the rapper for international phenomenon Wonder Girls.  Unfortunately, I haven’t heard as much of her in this group as I would like.  So I’m still hoping here!

4. Wonder Girls

Wonder Girls got me into female Kpop groups.  They’re something different that you don’t see every day.  “Tell Me” and “So Hot” were both so addictive and amazing.  Unfortunately, then “Nobody”, the pathetic attempt to re-create “Tell Me” came about, and I sort of lost interest.  News of their American debut caused a stir, but to open for the Jonas Brothers, of all the artists they could possibly use to break into America…  I’m sorry.  I just can’t find respect for artists who play perfect poster-child puppet to Disney such as Miley Sirus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, and now… very unfortunately, the Wonder Girls.  Perhaps if they come back to Korea someday they might be good again, but as far as their American career goes… I couldn’t be less interested from this point on.

3. Brown Eyed Girls

I looked away whenever I heard about BEG for the longest time.  I just started listening to them a couple months ago and I was hooked right away.  “Abracadabra” and “Sign” are two of the most addictive Kpop songs I’ve ever heard.  And man, do these girls know how to entertain.  Their live stages are always big and have something to keep you looking.   I also think that Miryo is one of the few genuinly talented rappers in Kpop girl groupdom.  The rap collaboration on this year’s MAMA (in which she did about half of the song alone) was absolutely stunning.  And my favorite part is that she’s feminine (like YuBin from Wonder Girls) yet has that rapper-spunk at the same time.

2. So Nyuh Shi Dae (SNSD)

I originally hated SNSD simply because they were the biggest rivals of Wonder Girls (back when I was a die-hard WG fangirl).  But then I heard one of their songs (Kissing You I think it was) because DongHae from Super Junior was in the MV, and they instantly caught my attention.  SNSD is the perfect blend of Japanese idol groups and their poppy sound mixed with that main-stream Kpop sound.  If SNSD tried to break through the Japanese market, I’d put my money on it that they’d make it big.  In fact, I think Tokyo is one of the stops on their upcoming solo Asia tour (I do believe they’re one of the first Korean girl groups to do this?  yes?).  They keep giving cutesy (“Gee”), yet sexy (“Genie”) and never fail to impress.  I’m really looking forward to what’ll come from this group in the future.

1. 2NE1

I didn’t think I would like this group when they first started.  I was really excited because they were to be the “female BIG BANG” and their debut song was even a collaboration with the group.  But I absolutely hated “Lollipop” (and still do), so it took me a little bit of encouragement to listen to their other songs.  But finally I listened to “FIRE” and fell in love right away.  I can conifdently and boldy say that no other girl group in Kpop can pull of the hip hop/rap style like 2NE1 does.  Their songs are incredibly addictive and the style is just like something you would hear here in the States.  I do wish that Dara and Park Bom got a bit more attention in the group, as they’re both better vocalists than the other two, but man, does CL ever bring the energy.  She loves what she does and it seriously shows.  Minzy’s super spunky, but what shocks me is her age (she’s 15!!).  While that’s cool for Jpop, the type of music 2NE1 does and their dancing (good Lord, her dance parts in “FIRE”) is a bit too much for her age.  But nonetheless, she’s a great rapper and I’m sure I’ll appreciate her more when she… ages a bit.
