The original Jeepneys were actually old U.S. military vehicles left over from World War II, modified to carry 10-20 passengers in the back. Jeeps run on fixed routes, like buses, but will stop to pick up/drop off passenger at places that are not designated stops. Over the years, the colorful, often flamboyant Jeep became the most popular, and distinctly Filipino, mode of public transportation.

Because of its large size, the University of the Philippines – Diliman actually has several Jeepney routes that take students to different parts of the campus. I generally ride the Jeep on Tuesday/Thursday, to get to my afternoon math class all the way on the edge of the campus.

The other day, the Jeep I took to math class was outfitted with an epic sound system. The custom subwoofers emitted a deep, crisp bass sound, and it seemed like the driver had the volume set at level 11 out of 10. Towards the end of the ride, the driver started bumpin’ the new joint from Slim of 112 ft. Yung Joc – “So Fly,” which has a sick bass beat. Before I knew it, I was bobbin’ my head up and down to the beat, then I was rockin’ my whole body. Really, there is nothing better to get you energized for an hour and a half of college algebra than bumpin’ some pop hip-hop on a nice sound system.

 106.1 Kmel put on a show! The late addition of Slim of 112 boosted the expectation for many his single “So Fly” ft Young Joc is one of my favorite songs so hearing it live was exciting. Upon arriving at the venue there was a line of about 35 people standing right outside of Ruby Skye which told me and a friend Ashlee that despite the traffic, rain and any other obstacles we made it!

  Making it wasn’t enough though once I stood for 10 minutes I got restless by this time though two more of our friends arrived so me and my homeboy Kwame decided to walk around the corner to see if we could get a beverage really quick before the line started moving.

   In our quest we stumbled into the Farallon restaurant, after having the door opened for me and my friend and getting a brief look inside I knew I was in the right place. Farallon is beautiful and seems to have an awesome atmosphere. There was a group of executives in the furrier that were really cool the two women tried to strike up a conversation as we left the bar we will get back to that. However, I wanted to sit down and have dinner because I was starving but to the bar about 30 feet away is where we went. I order my classic Long Island and a tequila shot my boy the same but his Long Island was altered into a “Black Super Man” (long island no coke splash substitute for chambored) After consuming the drinks we decided to head back to Ruby Skye once we paid our tab two of the executive women kind of shout out to me and say “hey, what were you drinking” I give them my classic smile and tell them a Long Island they totally pretend to be amazed and smile with the please keep this conversation going expression even though one of them was extremely attractive the concert was first priority so I could get good pictures for you the readers. See how much I care? As we walk up to the line the bouncers are at my friends so perfect timing they tear my ticket check my id and inside I go to enjoy the show!

Slim did his thing with “So Fly” and some of the 112 classics. John legend is really good, I wasn’t really a fan until this concert I went and picked up all his albums the next day. Very talented he sang himself with back up singers and played piano that’s straight skills, hats off to him.
