One thing i didn’t like about the transformer movie is that sound wave didn’t get alot of time. Hes a major character in the transformer universe hopefully he gets some more burn in the next film.

All the shit on this blog could be played at that thing. That’s why Diplo said “Walmer are the best djs”. It’s true. Ask him. Approach him next time you are at one of his shows and talk to him about Walmer Convenience. He will know immediate about whom you are referring to. That look of confusion on his face will be because he is astonished that someone had the gall to bring up the few djs that are better than him to his face. I am learning that when giving advice sometimes people take it the wrong way. Now since we live in a world where is greatly based on opinions this is something that can happen.  Just when you think you are doing something for the greater good, the person can think you are talking down to them or trying to tell them what to do. All in all sometimes its much better to listen and chime in rather than state your overall opinion i guess.  Im not better than anyone but ive been through the lies false promises and everything else that goes bump in the night. Sometimes when you try to let some see that doesn’t go that way.  So take it from me peeps don’t go near the  deep water swim near the water you can handle because often times you will drown and not be heard of ever again. get my drift.

Sean Gerard Hughes, giudicato dalla House of Commons come uno dei più spietati killer dell’IRA, si è visto congelare le proprie proprietà e i conti bancari per sospetto riciclaggio di denaro.
Stessa sorte è toccata anche alla moglie Annette.
Il Serious Organised Crime Agency ritiene che le proprietà siano il risultato di riciclaggio dei proventi derivatin da frodi ipotecarie, evasione e frode fiscale.
La decisione presa dalla High Court di Belfast è stata duramente contestata da Conor Murphy del Sinn Fein.

Republican’s assets frozen by High Court (NewsLetter)
A man accused in the House of Commons of being one of the IRA’s most ruthless killers has had his properties seized for suspected money laundering.
The High Court in Belfast granted an order freezing assets held by Sean Gerard Hughes and his wife, Annette, from south Armagh.
The Serious and Organised Crime Agency alleged his properties were the result of laundering the proceeds of mortgage fraud, tax evasion and benefit fraud.

The assets of a south Armagh man, who was accused in the House of Commons of being one of the IRA’s most ruthless killers, has had his assets seized by the Serious Organised Crime Agency.
SOCA has been granted a court order to take control of properties and bank accounts belonging to Sean Gerard Hughes of Aghadavoyle Road, Drumintee.
East Belfast DUP MP and now party leader Peter Robinson used parliamentary privilege in December 2002 to link Hughes to the South Quay bombing at London’s Canary Wharf in 1996, which killed two people and brought the previous IRA ceasefire to an end.
He said Hughes was also responsible for the murder of 12 soldiers at Warrenpoint, Co Down, a mortar bomb in Newry, Co Down, and the killing of Lord Chief Justice Maurice Gibson and his wife Cecily in 1987.
He said Hughes was the most “ruthless killer and thug” in the ranks of the IRA.
Sean Hughes has denied being a member of the IRA Army Council.
The agency claimed the assets came from laundering the proceeds of mortgage fraud, tax evasion and benefit fraud.
The assets frozen include eight houses in south Armagh, an apartment in south Belfast, the proceeds of the sale of three other houses in south Armagh and a number of bank accounts.
The agency has also taken control of assets belonging to 10 other people in the south Armagh area, including Mr Hughes wife, Annette.
‘Unacceptable’
But Sinn Fein MP Conor Murphy hit out at Soca and criticised the decision to stage police raids at the south Armagh properties on Tuesday morning.
“Sean Hughes is a sound republican. He has spent his entire adult life engaged in the struggle for Irish unity and independence,” said Mr Murphy.
“He has championed the peace process and the campaign to end political policing. There have been numerous attempts over the years to smear Sean’s character.”
He added: “The raids today on Sean’s home and those of a number of his relatives have caused deep anger in south Armagh. There is no justification for the deliberate targeting of Sean and his family today.
“Sean has been charged with nothing. Neither have any members of his family. It is unacceptable.”

Hey boys anyone feel like pizza?

Officers from the Serious Organised Crime Agency (yes, it’s a real name I checked) replaced a 80kg haul of cocaine with flour in a drug sting, but got bored and  left before their suspects arrived (not so serious). Nothing worse than having to wait for a £3.2 million drug bust . Anywho, the gang arrived some time later to the distribution warehouse in Manchester to pick up their  haul after firstly assaulting two security guards. Hmm, at some stage the gang discovered they had been duped and  ditched the flour in the River Irwell. SOCA later raided homes in Manchester, Ramsbottom (blahahaaha) and Rochdale making several arrests. Hmm, could have saved time had they just stayed a little longer at the warehouse, hmm and the security guards would have been  grateful too!!

What more can i say the Yankees win. Congratulations to the new york Yankees. great job on beating the cheese steaks of Philadelphia.

Why saving is for suckers

If there’s one thing that seems like it has to be a good idea, it is saving money. I mean, it’s like walking grandmas across the street, eating hot dogs on the Fourth of July and rooting against the Yankees, right? A concept that seems above reproach.

How do banks really make money?

Yet the reality is that in times of low interest rates, a credit bull market and a steadily advancing stock market, socking income away in a savings account may be the dumbest idea in the world.

In fact, I’ll go one step further and say it flat out: Saving is for suckers.

The reason this is true explains a lot about where we are in the business cycle right now and how the banking establishment and government conspire to rip off the public at every turn.

The truth about saving

Here’s the deal: When you put a portion of your income into a savings account, a money market fund or a certificate of deposit at a bank or brokerage, it appears from your perspective that you are placing it in a vault for safekeeping. But the truth is that you are lending your money to the bank at a rate of about 1%. The bank then laughs behind your back as it turns around and lends it to the government for 4%, to big companies at 6% or to smaller companies for 8% or more.

The difference between what the bank gives you for your cash and what it earns from lending it out at higher rates is called its “spread,” and it amounts to the bank’s profit margin. That spread right now is so large — as wide as 8 percentage points — that even many stupid bank executives could not avoid earning huge profits this year.

Mind you, there are some bankers who are so lame that they won’t make money. But for the most part, the profitability of banks right now is so obscene that any tricks they pull in their earnings reports this month will be intended not to hide losses (as bears would have you think) but to hide their gains. A steep yield curve — which occurs when short-term interest rates are very low relative to long-term interest rates — is a direct pipeline from your savings account to bankers’ bonuses.

There is a way for you to halt this robbery and redirect the process in your favor. But before I get there, let me note that the cover story for this mass misappropriation of the public’s money is quite simple and may actually have a positive purpose.

The government wants banks to become as profitable as possible now, after their incredible screw-ups of the prior few years, because to the extent that they can regain their balance by siphoning income from their customers, they will not need to hit up Congress for more emergency relief funds. Thank goodness for small favors, right?

It’s a little hard to comprehend at first, but let me tell you how the credit cycle works, according to independent credit analyst Brian Reynolds, and then I’ll tell you how to intervene:

• First (in this case, from 2003 to 2006), you have a normally strong economy and equity bull market. Banks make loans to companies, which use the proceeds to expand, and all is well in the realm.
• At some point (2007), banks get crazy and lend too much, and companies and individuals go crazy and expand too much, until eventually borrowers can’t pay their debts and a credit crisis ensues.
• As cash flow tightens (2008), companies turn to low-cost lines of credit they obtained from banks during better times but never used, and banks are forced to lend them at below-market levels, weakening their structures.
• The central bank cuts interest rates, giving commercial banks some breathing room. Banks then spend the next year (2009) reducing loans to the public and less-creditworthy small companies as they bolster their own broken balance sheets via the carry trade, which is that pipeline from consumer savings accounts to their own treasuries.
• As banks cut back on loans to everyone (2009), companies then turn to the bond market for cheap funding. Banks don’t mind, because they are fattening up by borrowing cheaply from the public, which has been stampeded and scared into stowing income in savings accounts.
• The Federal Reserve eventually raises interest rates, killing the value of the carry trade (late 2010). Only then do banks start to make commercial and industrial loans, then loans to the public.
• Banks ultimately become more competitive with each other and the bond market and then start to go crazy again, issuing loans to any business or individual with a pulse, and that’s when the credit cycle really goes nuts again (2011 to 2012).

Why saving is for suckers

Central bankers and government officials have been trying to make the public think they are going to end the first part of this crazy game soon by raising interest rates as soon as the economy shows a hint of stabilizing. That is why Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke and his band of regional Fed governors have hit the lecture circuit in recent weeks to give speeches at a stunning pace. But their comments are really just a smoke screen, as I have mentioned before, because these guys really have no intention of raising rates until substantial employment growth has been under way for several months, and that might not happen until the end of next year at the earliest.

A simple plan

Putting it all together, Reynolds thinks the evidence suggests we are still in the very early stages of the credit cycle, similar to the first seven months of the 1991-2000 period or the 2003-07 period. In those time spans, people who were simply saving excess cash in passbook or money market accounts at banks were throwing money at bankers with virtually no tangible benefit to themselves.

Different times call for different strategies. Last year you were a sucker if you were long on stocks. This year you’re a sucker if you’re not. My suggestion is that you participate in the recovery of the global economy right along with the fat cats, instead of serving as their financing vehicle. Despite the recent advance off the March lows, stocks and corporate bonds are still inexpensive relative to the sharp recovery that likely lies ahead.

I’ve written a lot of columns over the past seven months with specific recommendations. But if you haven’t started yet and want to get involved again with stocks — after all of your family, business and tax requirements are met, of course — then consider starting with a very simple strategy first and adding more complexity later.

A good, inexpensive exchange-traded fund to start with is Vanguard Total World Stock (VT, news, msgs), with an expense ratio of only 0.3%. It gives you exposure to all large and medium-sized companies in the world’s developed markets. To add a little more risk — and thus, hopefully, return — add small companies with SPDR International Small Cap (GWX, news, msgs). To creep out a little further on the risk spectrum, add iShares Emerging Markets (EEM, news, msgs). And finally, to add bonds as ballast, add iShares Investment Grade Corporate Bond (LQD, news, msgs).

Keep it simple. Adding sectors and specific regions will increase the complexity of your portfolio but probably won’t add much more in returns, which could well exceed 15% per year after the recent crash in value.

How do banks really make money?

These are not buy-and-hold-forever ideas, because cycles will change. And they won’t go straight up. There will be long periods of sideways motion or bumpiness. But the fiscal and monetary stimuli poured into the global financial system over the past year, as explained two weeks ago, will more than likely lead to a prolonged recovery of at least a year and more likely two or three or more.

For that period, investing will get you a lot farther than saving.

As part of a series of talks arranged by Topping and Company given by prestigious authors, Shirley Williams spoke at St. Peter’s Church in Ely on 26^th October 09. She was supporting the publication of her autobiography Climbing the Bookshelves. Shirley did not read from her book as expected but gave a charming and entertaining talk that revealed the content of her autobiography in an informal and entertaining way. After her talk, we definitely felt we knew Shirley better and that the media hype she has endured in the past had little relevance to this erudite speaker who showed sensitivity to the nature of her audience and who used approachable language and amusing anecdotes.

As events unfolded, we became aware that her autobiography title stemmed from her childhood when her brother urged her to climb up the bookshelves in her father’s study to reach the books that her parents did not want their children to see. We learned that her parents were people of considerable influence. We began to appreciate how Shirley developed her strong principles. Her father was a political scientist Sir George Catlin and Labour activist. Her mother was the writer, pacifist, and feminist Vera Brittain who lost her fiancé and brother in the First World War and was determined to give them a life through her writing in her book Testament to Youth. Shirley spent time in America because both her parents were blacklisted by the Gestapo in the Second World War. If Germany had won, both her parents would have been executed immediately. While In the USA she was pipped at the post by Elizabeth Taylor for the lead role in the film National Velvet.

Shirley revealed a strong sense of principles. She admitted to having a little trouble with being part of a secular event in a church. Her strong sense of principles led her to break free from the Labour party and became one of the founders of the Social Democratic Party (which later merged with the Liberals to become the Liberal Democrats).

Humour permeated many of her anecdotes as did a streak of feminism and an avid concern for political issues. When she was first elected, her determination to gain admittance to every nook and cranny of the House of Commons sent her through the doors of a certain ‘room’ that should have been marked Gentlemen Members Only. The ‘Ladies’ was a much more modest affair. Her visit to a school on the governing body led her to mistakenly being interviewed for a position as a needlework teacher.

She described the different types of female politician, the strong influence of their fathers and how she decided to become a ‘chum’. She never flinched from expressing her strong beliefs:  there should be more free votes in Parliament, MP salaries should be at least equal to GPs and there is a need to renew laws after 10 years or let them fall. She spoke against the 3000 new criminal offences, some as minor as dropping litter and the loss of civil liberties after the passing of the Serious Organized Crime and Police Act.  At this point I understood more than ever the important role people like Shirley have in our society: The media and personal experience indicate that this act may well be being used on the families of people needing care.  Shirley also spoke against the extreme centralization of English democracy and expressed a wish that the powers of local government should be restored. We glimpsed her political edge when she described Tony Blair as a good communicator and good actor (with an amusing aside: ‘mostly playing King Henry V’).

She described how, above all, she values her friends, many of whom are not politicians and are frank and honest with her. She admitted that she can be critical of the Church but nevertheless believes that the Gospels provide a solid basis for living. She reminded us that ‘the price of freedom is vigilance’. She believes that surveillance is out of hand and disagrees with the setting up of three unaccountable committees to keep tabs on protestors: we should have the right to protest. She believes that the voting system is slanted heavily and not equal. She supports comprehensive schools and is against a curriculum that is too rigid curriculum. She believes there is too much testing and advocates bringing back technical colleges. She also believes that parties should be able to agree more e.g. on human rights and education. Concerning Iraq, she praised the work of Robin Butler and described his study as most subtle: ‘full of unexploded bombs’ indicating that the government did give exaggerated accounts.  

After meeting this sincere and highly principled ‘chum’ it was difficult to envisage her in her more powerful and high profile role as Baroness Williams of Crosby.  This was indeed a most illuminating and rewarding event.
