Put yourself in a fictional universe where everything’s gone a bit nutty. Now picture Matthew Broderick’s head on a pike. Does that do it for you? It’s there as a result of his dangerous driving conviction, if that helps? How about Winona Ryder getting her sticky fingered hands cut off for shop-lifitng, streamed live and gruesome online? Or Lily Allen being beaten to death with her own iPhone for crimes against twittering?

Ok, the last one may be a bit of a stretch, but if this kind of celebrity capital punishment does it for you, maybe you should check out “The Execution of Gary Glitter“, a docu-drama broadcast this week on Channel 4 and still available online. It’s set in an imaginary Britain, where public pressure has led to the reinstatement of the death penalty for crimes of murder and child abuse, as well as widening the powers of the police in detaining suspects and pursuing their conviction. When Gary Glitter is extradited from Vietnam to face fresh charges in London, he becomes the first person to face hanging in over forty years.

As far as celebrity snuff goes, it’s top notch, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to have been the intention. Written, produced and directed by Rob Coldstream, it claims rather to engage the audience on topics of capital punishment and how modern society deals with its most reviled offenders. Worthy subject matter, no doubt, and the real world celebrity court cases of R. Kelly and Roman Polanski could just be enough to back up the premise, but it fails miserably in the realization.

The whole set-up is completely outlandish, relying on a set of conditions so tight and specific they fail to ring true. What’s hardest to swallow are the massive changes to British law, in particular the Metropolitan police’s new ability to prosecute seemingly anyone for crimes committed in foreign territories, disregarding like a playground bully any authority or interest of foreign governments.

Coldstream has tried to cover this up with the standard docu-drama methods, talking heads and archive footage to blur the lines between fiction and reality. It works well in places, especially when authentic Glitter, fresh out of prison from his 1999 conviction, breaks down in front of a media sharktank. His blubbering makes for uncomfortable, conflicted viewing, as does the heavy reliance on footage from the 2002 Soham murders. In the latter case especially though, you can’t help feeling a tinge of exploitation, as Coldstream constructs his entire narrative from a sparse and selective retelling of the horrific events.

Through scripted interviews, Coldstream uses talking heads to drag up every possible facet of the problem, as actors bleat and attack each other over everything from human rights to class divide. The passion is clearly evident, but at the unfortunate cost of clarity. The celebrity variants do equally little to add to proceedings, as Anne Widdecombe preaches charmlessly on the existence of evil, an excitable Gary Bushnell shouts from the cheap seats and Mirada Sawyer offers the perspective of a music journalist inexplicably assigned to the highest profile court case of the young century. Each is under the yoke of Coldstream’s formulaic courtroom script, trotted out in turn to patronize the audience. No, no, Glitter taking the witness stand while everyone gasps isn’t an enormous cliche, it’s actually really clever and quite a big deal. Etc. Etc. Throughout, you’re left to wonder what exactly has motivated these people to get involved, but under no illusions that it had anything to do with social advocacy.

This overbearing condescension is endemic, in a narrative that claims to know the answers but certainly isn’t telling. What we’re left with is not so much an exploration of social policy as a particularly shouty snuff film, an ugly and charmless mess of an affair, lacking in both integrity and relevance. If there is one redeeming feature however, it’s Hilton McRae’s performance as Glitter. I’m not sure how many actors can claim “dole queue clown” and “aging Ming the Merciless” among their signature looks, but however big the Glitter look-alike casting call was, they struck gold with McRae. He gives an compelling performance of Glitter’s vulnerability and dwindling defiance, as the convicted popstar faces into his final days. If you are into celebrity snuff, and you need an excuse to watch this truly awful docu-drama with your friends, Hilton McRae provides an excellent cover. Failing that, call it research.

‘The Execution of Gary Glitter’ aired Monday 9th november on Channel 4, and will be available for a limited time on 4oD. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-execution-of-gary-glitter/4od

Got this from Yahoo.com. Compelling story.

—————

By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer – Thu Oct 15, 7:56 pm ET

NEW ORLEANS – A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peacein Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.

“I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way,” Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.”

Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said.

Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.

“There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage,” Bardwell said. “I think those children suffer and I won’t help put them through it.”

If he did an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said.

“I try to treat everyone equally,” he said.

Bardwell estimates that he has refused to marry about four couples during his career, all in the past 2 1/2 years.

Beth Humphrey, 30, and 32-year-old Terence McKay, both of Hammond, say they will consult the U.S. Justice Department about filing a discrimination complaint.

Humphrey, an account manager for a marketing firm, said she and McKay, a welder, just returned toLouisiana. She is white and he is black. She plans to enroll in the University of New Orleans to pursue a masters degree in minority politics.

“That was one thing that made this so unbelievable,” she said. “It’s not something you expect in this day and age.”

Humphrey said she called Bardwell on Oct. 6 to inquire about getting a marriage license signed. She says Bardwell’s wife told her that Bardwell will not sign marriage licenses for interracial couples. Bardwell suggested the couple go to another justice of the peace in the parish who agreed to marry them.

“We are looking forward to having children,” Humphrey said. “And all our friends and co-workers have been very supportive. Except for this, we’re typical happy newlyweds.”

“It is really astonishing and disappointing to see this come up in 2009,” said American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana attorney Katie Schwartzmann. She said the Supreme Court ruled in 1967 “that the government cannot tell people who they can and cannot marry.”

The ACLU sent a letter to the Louisiana Judiciary Committee, which oversees the state justices of the peace, asking them to investigate Bardwell and recommending “the most severe sanctions available, because such blatant bigotry poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the administration of justice.”

“He knew he was breaking the law, but continued to do it,” Schwartzmann said.

According to the clerk of court’s office, application for a marriage license must be made three days before the ceremony because there is a 72-hour waiting period. The applicants are asked if they have previously been married. If so, they must show how the marriage ended, such as divorce.

Other than that, all they need is a birth certificate and Social Security card.

The license fee is $35, and the license must be signed by a Louisiana minister, justice of the peace or judge. The original is returned to the clerk’s office.

“I’ve been a justice of the peace for 34 years and I don’t think I’ve mistreated anybody,” Bardwell said. “I’ve made some mistakes, but you have too. I didn’t tell this couple they couldn’t get married. I just told them I wouldn’t do it.”

————-

http://websig247.jp/meeting/25/000158.html

There are so many things I appreciate esp.their commitment but there’s just this feeling something more must be done for animal rights beyond depending on SPCA. Somewhere along their history they obtained the reputation for being a dumping ground for unwanted animals. But that isn’t their primary goal. What’s the best way to get to the heart of the problem of cruelty to animals? Blame, name or shame the game? I’d go for legislation. Open your children’s minds to the possibility of running for MP under an animal rights banner.

The Burden of the Enlightened…

You can’t close your eyes and refuse to realize the unnecessary lies and cutting eyes that surround unhappy lives. Coping mechanisms turned into addiction, real life is now what was once fiction, and we sit in conviction waiting for some end to the non-fiction. Lives crumble about me and I can’t pretend to not see the devastation and spiritual depravation of the emotionally scarred waiting for some reparation. Young girls are giving what’s pure to find the cure from feeling so insecure. Digging holes deeper than where they were before, they aren’t free to explore the world, they’re up in some sheets curled, and it’s a shame the young girls have to know such pain. Words can’t say, tears can’t express, money can’t pay nor will suppress this urge to feel, be it pain, be it pleasure, just a feeling of some measure. They want to touch and know that somebody can show them affection, protection, from life’s bitter subjection. Looking for love that never came their way, hoping praying it’d be theirs someday. Emotions running wild, hormones running crazy, brazen hearts defiled nine months carrying an illegitimate baby. Breasts swollen, hearts stolen, substances consoling, these young brides of unhappy lives. And we sit back and see such pain and obscenity, crying screaming “Someone set me Free!” But we turn our heads in disdain, hearing them call someone else’s name, to sooth their aching pain. But try as we may with ego’s so frightened, the few souls that must pay, can’t disobey the Burden of the Enlightened.

The Plight of the Black Woman

To be angry at the grocery store, at the hair salon, in line at the post office, or even in line for coffee, that’s okay for a black woman. To cause a scene at the register, to curse someone using every slur known to man, that’s just fine for a black woman. To walk off the job mad, to threaten an employee who glanced at her sideways, is juicy office gossip, and of course okay for a black woman. But using her words and owning conflicting emotions, is refused to my bronze beauties. Responding first with sensation, than with rational thought, is not acceptable for my Nubian Queens. Being angry and keeping it all inside for fear of fulfilling the perpetuated stereotype of us, that is the plight of my black women.

When in the presence of her white counterparts, she is observed as is a rat in a laboratory. Her predator waits in the shadows, lurking, eager at any moment to pounce and deem her the angry black woman that America so dearly loves.

A black woman isn’t allowed to exhibit any signs of the sort that may allude to distress. She is quickly told that she is taking matters too seriously, that she’s using her race as a scapegoat, and that she should consider anger management classes. I won’t contend that she’s taking matters too seriously. In fact, she is. She’s taking it seriously enough to compensate for all those so busy denying it, denying her, of her fundamental right to be pissed off.

Why is it that America so dearly clenches to the image of an angry black woman? It is because without this, there would be too much to credit our ebony sisters. Our fellow ladies and gentleman could no longer look down upon our brown skin. In fact, they would have to tip their hats, and understand the struggle we still face. As the esteemed W.E.B. DuBois said so eloquently, “The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line.” May I modify this to apply to the twenty-first century? The monster, which we now audaciously wrestle with, has invaded the membrane, of what should be the nuclear human cell. With the turn of the century though, it has mutated. The problem of the twenty-first century is the problem of political-corrected ness.

Upon first examination, this may seem like a very far-fetched notion. However, I entreat you to criticize this issue more closely and see exactly what I’m trying to say. In the endeavor to always be politically correct, our oppressors have found loopholes, or ways to say exactly what they want to, without sounding blatantly racist. What was once a visible adversary has seemingly evaporated into a steamy gray mist. (I apologize to the members of the white community who are upstanding individuals and haven’t succumbed to such vile practices. It is but a percentage of the white population which indulges in such sub-par activities.)

I do not fit the archetype of an African-American female. I grew up in the suburbs. I have two moms. One of my moms is white and my other mom is black. I got the best of both worlds. I’ve attended private Catholic institutions for the greater part of my education. I have studied foreign languages, histories, and sciences. I have been given opportunities and advantages that have allowed me to become the best person that I can be. I am very proud of my becoming. But my very phenotypic representation excites the latent racisms from members within my race and others outside it. I’m the stuff that nature versus nurture is made of. I’m the exact opposite of what Craniometrist and Cesare Lombroso would have you to believe.

The sharp contrast that I cause in the common view of black women became evident in high school. There, I quickly realized that I was too white for the black kids, and too black for the white kids. I didn’t and still don’t use Ebonics. I couldn’t relate to what the black community deemed the “black struggle”. Those who looked the most liked me adamantly reminded me how much I was not like them. But my skin looks just like theirs, maybe a little lighter. We have the same history. Our ancestors fought the same struggle and waged the same wars. Despite this common ground, I still wasn’t quite like the others. Existentially, I’ve come to embrace that difference. For it was that distinguishing marker, that has made me who I am today.

As a black woman, I have experienced first hand the degradation and humiliation of keeping quiet. The most poignant example of political corrected ness as it relates to my life, was experienced at the hands of a white coworker. She denies any allegations of harboring racial stereotypes while her prejudices seep through her pores. In conversation, and side comments, it is what she claims to be fair that reveals her prejudice. Unfortunately, her husband lost a friend who was white due to gun fire. Around the same time, a black youth was gunned down by policeman in the same manner as her associate. She was infuriated that the death of her acquaintance didn’t make the front page while the black youths’ death still gleamed in glossy writing on page A1. I do not blame her for being upset about her loss. The details surrounding both cases as well as the Zeitgeist, contributed to the difference in media exposure. If the roles were reversed however, and I was upset about the lack of media attention to a case involving African-Americans, she and others like her would discredit my cause and consider it unjustified. For example, in the case of the Jena 6, she knew no details surrounding the case and supported the behaviors of the school principal. I use this anecdote, not to arouse feelings of anti-sentiment for this woman, or others who share her paradigm. Rather, I desire to use this experience to remind myself and others of the pervasiveness of existing racial tensions.

In office duties, if I don’t understand something right away, she makes snide comments and mocks my education. I have received more education than she has and I know that is a point of contention between the two of us. More than once, I’ve had to substantiate my capabilities and instead of appreciating an intelligent and helpful employee, it’s as if I’m less creditable because of it.

Furthermore, she and her husband find great humor in the fact that I’m multi-racial. And on many occasions, they have laughed and called me “confused” because of it. This is not just a race problem, it is a gender issue. I am convinced that if I were a black man, he would never make such a comment. The social experience of black men and women is very different. Of course, I immediately rejected this joke and made him aware of his callousness. My boss and others in the office accused me of being too sensitive. My ideas, beliefs, and ways of understanding concepts are different and I’m ridiculed for this difference because I’m a woman and I’m black.

The way to stop these issues that surround women, women of color, and educated women, are not easy or simple. The histories, experiences, and surrounding circumstances of each of these categories are convoluted. But, the first steps towards amelioration involve communication, understanding and appreciation. I want to be a part of the solution. Women across the socio-cultural strata should not be penalized for ascribed or achieved statuses. I want to be among the strong figures that are bold enough to suppose and accomplish change.

In Bucharest, Romania, the traffic police placed signs above and inside the urinals at pubs all throughout the city. Inside the urinal is a picture of a road and underneath the road they ask, “Can You Drive Straight?” I think this is pretty creative and I think guys would get a kick out of it. Above the urinal the sign says, “Don’t Drink And Drive.” This type of ambient/guerilla marketing is unique/creative and caused buzz among the people at the bar. Also, advertising about designated drivers and moderating one’s drinking at bars is the best place to advertise that will be the most direct. Hopefully this advertising persuaded some to have designated driver, have a few less drinks, and/or call a taxi cab to get home.

The imagery in this commercial shows how in the United States we have it easy with the unlimited amount of access to food. This commercial asks us if food were too expensive for us to afford, what would we do? In many other countries around the world, food is too expensive for people. WHY is an organization in search of ways to help with hunger and poverty all over the world. I think their commercial has done a great job of making you think about this issue of hunger and poverty, and intrigues you to visit their website.

http://www.tsukalog.com/2009/09/4gd_presentation/

http://www.arijigoku.net/

This is my third blog, the first 2 being around social media and social CRM while this one is around

This is my third blog, the first 2 being around social media and social CRM while this one is around social cause. What really triggered me to write this one was a TV commercial which talked about stop child labour….not that this was the first one that I have seen but some how this one got me into thinking mode on how can it be done, why is it not happening , what need’s to be done.

I can see two reasons why in the first place are parents sending in their children for work resulting into child labour
>> Shortage of money resulting into getting the child to work so as to overcome their problem and stabilize the entire family on financial front
>> They don’t have the money to spend on child’s education so better get them trained for tomorrow and make them acquire the skills required for the job

Now most of the government initiatives really address the second issue by providing free or less expensive education to children’s of the family who fall in the BPL category

Is there any way by which the first reason can be addressed? Since most family who are poor and want more would go in for a quick fix by getting their children to work

Also lets us assume a hypothetical situation where in there is no child labour still the first problem is not resolved. Well it might result into these kids getting into some wrong or incorrect means of earning money which would be even worse as compared to child labour.

I am not at all in favor of child labour but there needs to be a solution which would address the root cause instead of just people showing commercials about stop child labour. Something that I can think of which would help is that there should be some scheme like earn while you learn. In this while the children are learning there should be a mechanism by which they can also earn then it would address both the issues which are there. Also once they child gets educated it would result into financial stability of the entire family. Also if government can give in some incentives (in addition to free education) which would lure the parents to send in their children for education instead of sending them for work it would really help.

These are just some thought that I had in case I do happen to find out something more would pen it down in future.

Tokyo NetSquared Meetup (Tokyo) – Meetup.com
http://www.meetup.com/TokyoNetTuesday/

NetSquared, an initiative of TechSoupGlobal.org | remixing the web for social change
http://www.netsquared.org/

「

Net Tuesday、

Net Tuesday

Net Tuesday

These families were among the 33,493 informal settlers in Pasay City who occupied government lands, private properties and danger zones, Alex Acabado, chief of the Pasay Housing and Homesite Regulatory Office said.

He said each family is expected to own a 24-square-meter unit at the 1, 300 square-meter building to be constructed in the Hankins Compound on Tolentino St. by the middle of September.

The city government will shoulder the interest, leaving the homeowners to pay P2,000 monthly for 10 years. The beneficiaries will be able to transfer to their units within five months after the construction of the building.

Despite recent hype over the Right to Education Bill making it mandatory for the Central, state and

Despite recent hype over the Right to Education Bill making it mandatory for the Central, state and local bodies to provide free and compulsory education to all the children in the 6-14 years age group, the real scenario of elementary education in India is pathetic.Below are some of issues which make free and compulsory education in India a mammoth task.

1. Inadequacy of Financial Provision:Due to over expenditure in defense, foreign debt, meeting natural disasters among others, the expenditure for education in the central level comes down.

2. Poverty Among Parents:Education in undeveloped areas still considered as a luxury because of financial constraints of the parents.

3.Indifference of Parents:An illiterate parent is generally averse to education.Again,
children from educated families climb the educational ladder more successfully than those from uneducated families. This develops antipathy in uneducated parents towards education.

4.Inappropriateness of Curricula:The primary school curricula vary from State to State. The school curriculum in each of the States is almost centrally-controlled. There are prescribed syllabi, textbooks etc., irrespective of diversities in languages and dialects spoken by the people and geographical differences. Besides, such curricula do not give independence to teachers to make variations depending on local needs, which makes them ineffective.

5.Ineffectiveness of Teachers:Lack of effectiveness among teachers takes root at the time of teacher training. In spite of the known effects of teacher training on efficiency of teachers, most developing countries have poor teacher training programmes.Such training programmes in India are also farcical in nature.

6.Inertia in Administrative and Supervisory Machinery:The inertia prevailing among administrators and supervisors has its origin in a faulty recruitment system. The inertia prevailing in the system is responsible for ill-distribution of available resources. Such problems get further accentuated because of the multitude of languages and dialects.

Universalization of primary education is intimately connected with the development of living conditions of the people. When a significant number of citizens are below the poverty line, the attempts made to provide free and compulsory education to children in the age group 6-14 cannot be successful in the near future. There are, in addition, certain educational and administrative bottlenecks that have been decelerating the process.Efforts therefore are to be made for complete revamping of the system both at micro and macro levels, so as to make free education a reality and not a myth in India.

“I have been in New York before, he said, and it looks the same.”

A lot of the pain is hidden, I told him, hidden behind the deceptive spin in our media or buried in the denial and delusions of many people on the streets who have not taken the trouble to try to understand the nature of the calamity they are living through.

On the elevator, we pass the offices of City Harvest, a charity that collects excess food from restaurants and distributes it to shelters and programs for the hungry. An employee explains that with the restaurant business way off, they have less to donate. What about the demand by the hungry, I ask? With a shrug, he tells me the need is way up. (AP is reporting, “The nation’s food banks, struggling to meet demand in hard times, are turning to prison inmates for free labor to help feed the hungry.”)

Out in the street, you soon notice fewer cabs and town cars. More people are walking or using public transportation, even though the fares recently went up. Even that is deceptive because there are still a lot of tourists in Midtown to complicate the picture. New Yorkers have other things on their minds. There are retail vacancies on every block. Other stores are discounting everything. The fast food places have their specials going for $2-5 dollars. Many of the clothing stories look like good will shops. When a JC Penny opened a store in Midtown, 15,000 people applied for 500 jobs.

As we walked downtown, we passed nearly empty bars and restaurants, a sign that the most customers are staying away. Media reports are now confirming what I saw. The Wall Street Journal reports, “Major retailers reported that American consumers are continuing to hunker down, casting a cloud over the durability of the U.S. recovery and underscoring the importance of overseas demand in restoring the world economy to health. Retailers across the spectrum provided foreboding reports.”

Down where I live, you also pass new buildings with empty stores and unsold apartments. The foreclosure crisis is already hitting New York’s condos and co-ops. You just can’t see it from the street the way you can in a suburban tract. When you read the auction notices, you realize its real. A new wave of foreclosures is expected and not just in poor homes. The middle class and commercial real estate is affected.

Almost every block on 8th Avenue in Chelsea has a new bank branch. It’s like ATM heaven except most are not crowded. There was a report last week that banking industry opened 10,000 branches over the last five years. Most were based in shopping areas or concentrated in affluent neighborhoods. Only a small number are in poorer communities, especially those victimized by predatory subprime lending. The New York Times reported this week that 91,100 NY households hide their savings in closets, in pillows — even in brown paper lunch bags, just not at a bank

Meanwhile, every week, more banks are going bust and being taken over and sold by the FDIC. There are reports that the FDIC itself is insolvent.

And as for the markets, cooler heads prevailed when the wisemen realized that consumer demand has fallen up as defaults and delinquencies rise

Inequality is mounting in social and racial terms. Recent statistics: cited in a Times study: “From the first quarter in 2008 to the first quarter in 2009, the national unemployment rates for blacks rose from 8.9 percent to 13.6 percent, compared to a rise for whites of 4.8 percent to 8.2 percent. In NYC, it was even worse: from 5.7 percent to 14.7 percent, compared to 3.0 percent to 3.7 percent for whites.”

Remember these statistics notoriously undercount those not looking for jobs that are not there. Unless you are following the trajectory of this crisis you might not know that economist Nouriel Roubini, who was among the first to predict it, still sees it as far more serious that most of us realize:

“This is the worst US and global recession in 60 years. If the US recession were—as is most likely—to be over at the end of the year, it will have been three times as long and about fives times as deep—in terms of the cumulative decline in output—as the previous two.” Notice he is not quite predicting its end, using the “If” word to mask his own uncertainty. The Financial Times cautions against optimism taking refuge in the term “caution.”

Here in the Big Apple, The City’s top money man, Controller Bill Thompson says, “108,000 jobs evaporating citywide between August, 2008 and May, 2009. Typically, unemployment continues to climb even after the economy bottoms out and begins to recover. I expect the number of unemployed in New York City to reach 400,000 in 2010, for the first time in decades.”

Still invisible are the impact of cutbacks on city services and the educational system.

Income disparities are growing, according to a new study but how do I show that to my visitor since people with credit cards can still charge it even as credit limits are being cut back and interest rates rise. At the same time, A Bank of America Merrill study shows the Middle class is being hit hardest.

The LA Times reports, “The consumer debt problem in the economy really is a debt problem for the middle class. The need to work off a chunk of that debt will sap middle-class family spending power for perhaps years to come. By contrast, the upper 10% of income earners face a much smaller debt burden relative to income and net worth. Those people should have ample spending power to help fuel an economic recovery.”

And don’t think the end of the recession will bring back many of the jobs that are gone. Economists are now getting us used to a new term: “jobless recovery.”

Already employers are introducing compulsory furloughs, as the Christian Science Monitor reveals: “For millions of Americans, this might be the year of the furlough. Over the course of a month or so, workers—both white-collar and blue—may have to take several days off whether they want to or not. Call it a temporary pay cut—an action that is sold by management as a way to help save some jobs.”

Another new study finds, “Income inequality in the United States is at an all-time high, surpassing even levels seen during the Great Depression, according to a recently updated paper by University of California, Berkeley Professor Emmanuel Saez. The paper, which covers data through 2007, points to a staggering, unprecedented disparity in American incomes. On his blog, Nobel prize-winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called the numbers “truly amazing.”

It’s all amazing, all devastating to our lives and futures, and yet you can’t necessarily see it if you don’t look, or know what to look for. No one is talking about our economic pain—not the right or the left, perhaps because it is not an “event” that you can cover live at a town hall.

It’s there but, for many, it’s invisible and seen as a personal problem, not a social issue. This crisis didn’t just happen; it was caused. Will those responsible ever be held accountable? Out of sight is out of mind. The hope is that if we ignore it, it will go away.

If you think that, think again.
