Image via Wikipedia

It’s funny, we hear commercials all the time referring to how great a dog food tastes but I always find myself wondering how they really know. I am sure you can get a test group of hungry dogs and set them loose in a room and see what happens, but I have seen what my dogs have put in their mouth in addition to their food and I wonder just what they know about what tastes good to them. Everything is relative I guess. I know I am not going to try it. I always got a kick out of trying to get the neighbors and my brothers and sisters to taste a little dog food….. Ok, I digress.

At DaZZee, we got an opportunity to try our own dog food (so to speak) and the results have been great. It’s nice when the solutions you sell work well for you.

We have a great Office Manager/Project Manager. She has a skill-set that we could not replace very easily, and we are thankful for what she does. Anyway, her husband had an opportunity to buy into a business and it was going to move her away. Since we couldn’t convince her to leave him (Just kidding) we decided to use this opportunity as a case study. The plan was to put the Cisco Unified Communications solution to work for us remotely so that she could do what she does best for us while out of the office.

The key to making all of this work effectively was to make the hand off of everything she did feel as seamless as possible so that the customer felt comfortable in the process. With Cisco’s SoftPhone solution we have given her the ability to do everything that the conventional office phone does but she can use it from any Internet connection. The beauty of all this is most of our clients would have no idea she was working remotely. The extension works just like it would if she were at a desk at our office in Hollister, Missouri but from her laptop she can manage the office from where she is in North Carolina. In addition with the UC solution all faxes drop right in the her email where she has immediate access to anything important that comes through. With the Cisco IP communicator I know if she is at her desk available or on a phone call just like if she were located right across the hall.

We were actually amazed how well the solution is working for our office. As far as case studies go I would say this one has shown great results. We don’t have her in our office but she is able to keep us all quite busy from right where she sits.

DaZZee Integrations would love to talk to you about Cisco’s remote office opportunities. In the workplace of today the ability to be mobile is critical. Let DaZZee show you a free demonstration so you can see just how great this solution really is.

Softphones – software programs that allow you to make calls through the internet – can be a convenie

Softphones – software programs that allow you to make calls through the internet – can be a convenient way to communicate, but they can also pose security risks to businesses. Fortunately, softphones for PABX networks provide all the same conveniences but with more exclusivity and security.

Technology has always had a profound impact on the way we do business, especially these days with the constant need to stay in touch with bosses, clients, and co-workers. A breakdown in communication often means a dip in productivity – so you always need to have the best and most effective means of communication at your disposal.

One of these means is softphones, which are basically software programs that allow you to make calls in much the same way as you do using a telephone or mobile device, except it’s through your internet connection. The most popular softphones include Skype, MagicJack, or Yahoo Messenger’s call feature. However, there are also softphone technologies that can utilize your PABX (private automatic branch exchange) network, which – while more limited in a general sense – are much better for businesses because of the security they offer.

Softphones on PABX work better for business purposes because of the nature of the PABX networks themselves. The privacy and exclusivity for your business communications are maintained, and PABX softphones make communication convenient without compromising security.

If you want to know more about softphone technology for your PABX network, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss a detailed service blueprint that will work for you.

We realize that your business may not have someone’s life hanging in the balance, but we also know your time is critical. Cisco Unified Communications solutions has the ability to buy you extra time, improve your company productivity, and sets you free from the average workspace.

Buying You Time…

Have you ever needed a second opinion or the ability to find a person to answer a question for a client and found it hard to find someone available to help you? We have that solution covered for you. At any moment of time you have a visual display of who is available on your network to help answer a question. The display shows you if they are on the phone, or away from their desk; you will know exactly who is available to assist you with that critical question to help close the sale.

Improved Productivity…

Cisco‘s Click to call technology is an amazing way to save you time. From your web browser or CRM you can click to dial any number you might be researching. No fumbling with pens or even your phone’s keypad to get that call made; all you do is select it in on your browser and it makes your call happen – Instantly.

With Unified Communication voice mail is sent directly to your email. When you need to forward that message up a level you just forward that email message onto the person that needs it. You don’t have to mess with extensions or voice mail manager; just shoot it off to the person that needs it.

Perhaps you need present a quote but you really don’t need to be face to face to share it with the customer; WebEx is the perfect solution for this. Set up and appointment and you work with the client face to face but via video conference to make that happen. You just made your meeting and saved yourself the gas money in the process. This is something that our company has found quite helpful.

Setting You Free…

Most of you who have your own business have invested a lot of money, but in addition to that you have also invested a lot of blood, sweat and tears into your business. That can be arranged as well just connect a Cisco UC phone into your Internet Jack at home and your extension will be added with no hassle. In addition, the Video options give you the ability to see everyone you need to as if they were right up the hall. You can talk to your sales rep and see their face so you can get a feel for what his thoughts actually may be on the prospect.

As a company, InGenius has been in the software business since 1986 and in the past twelve years has focused its efforts specifically on computer-telephony integrations. In the past four years we have amped up our integration focus to really focus in on providing telephony applications that support multiple platforms and resonate with customer’s needs. Our newest product, InGenius Connector for Salesforce, is providing our distributors with a way to provide their customers with an application that integrates with their offering and their clients environments. InGenius Connector for Salesforce is the first of many CRM integrations we plan to release and we’ve already helped several companies integrate with their custom CRM systems!

In a white paper, Lori Bocklund, President, Strategic Contact Inc. remarks on the issues with contact centers in implementing new technology; “Problems we see include not looking at systems in place to start out with and potentially leveraging something that already exists, over-buying (licenses, functionality, capacity, etc.), not allocating the resources to use it effectively, never getting to the “Phase 2″ functionality, not making process changes to get the most out of technology, and failing to help the users see the benefits and make changes.”

With InGenius Connector for CRM systems we solve these problems by providing:

Multi-platform support on both the CRM side and the VoIP or SIP service provider side to help businesses leverage what they already have in place

Per seat purchase options to avoid over-buying

Simple deployment options that include mass deployment or easy end user download so massive resources for deployment are not necessary

An abundance of support materials including videos, documentation, presentation and webinars to inform users how to get the most out of the application

Seamless integrations with the CRM application users are familiar with so benefits can be seen right away and changes required to use the software are intuitive (For example, click on a phone number to call)

With growing competition and increased consumer knowledge, businesses are investing in CRM software to better develop and nurture their customer relationships to improve their current and future bottom line. What businesses are missing however is that when introducing new software or technologies they are adding an additional tool on top of an already busy customer service representative or salesforce. This is where InGenius Connector for CRM systems comes into play. We take all these tools and merge them into a single access point so that customer service representatives need only access with one interface, CRM providers extend their functionality beyond their application, and VoIP providers integrate with business processes. InGenius Connector for CRM truly connects it all!

Over the past few weeks InGenius has attended several trade shows and we were blown away by the demand for our CRM integrations for InGenius Connector. Specifically we have been showing our InGenius Connector for Salesforce application that allows for Salesforce.com users to make and recieve calls directly from Salesforce.

CRM users are thrilled with the application because it allows them to easily track their calls, add notes to a call, have contact records pop-up on an incoming call, and click-to-call from a contact page. What is comes down to is that InGenius Connector for Salesforce helps businesses and small contact centers improve their efficiency, provide better customer service and have more accurate call reports; all of which translates into huge cost savings and potentially greater sales. According to the blog post by John Reed, if businesses can not provide quick, quality service to their customers, the business is doomed to fail. With InGenius Connector for Salesforce, InGenius helps businesses provide exceptional customer service by tying their telephone to their CRM application. Users will never have to put a call on hold to find the contact’s information because it will automatically pop-up, managers can easily keep track of phone call records, and to reach a customer it’s as simple as clicking on their phone number. As Reed puts it “Good CRM means never having to say hold!” and with InGenius Connector for Salesforce you won’t have to!!!

Okay, so back to the internet I go, looking for more alternatives to Skype and GoogleVoice for us Canadians. I wanted something to work with my iPod Touch 3G so I could make and receive phone calls like a mobile phone, without the big costs of the Canadian cell carriers. Something that was reliable, so I could make the calls when I needed to. I had previously written about my attempt with Skype and Ring2Skype (click here to read Part One) and how that service was not so stable.

This time around, I found a company called Freephoneline (www.freephoneline.ca). They offer a free local number in most of the major cities in Canada. Their service includes free unlimited long distance calls across Canada, caller ID, call forwarding (what they term, “Follow Me”), 911 service (holy mackerel) and best of all, voicemail. Can you believe it? All those services for free! All you need to do is create an account and download their software to your desktop computer, plug in your headset and away you go! Just like Skype, but you don’t pay for outgoing calls and you have a Canadian dial in number for your friends and family to use! Having tested their service for a while now, I am impressed with the reliability of the calls (no dropped calls, and to date, only 1 service interruption). That’s really great for a free phone service. So, the completely “free” part is that you have to use it on your computer with their own desktop software.

Now, how did I get this working on my iPod Touch? Well, for a one time fee of $50.00, you can purchase the configuration file from Freephoneline. Okay, so this isn’t a totally free way of converting my iPod Touch into a cell phone. This file essentially gives you the username and password of your phone account which you would plug into any SIP app on your iPod Touch. Off to the app store I went!

I tried a couple of free apps: Fring and Nimbuzz. While their functionality is mostly for social networking (you can log into most of your favourite social sites like Facebook and Twitter), they also allow SIP/VOIP calling. The calls worked, but the audio quality was low and echoing was too noticeable.

All right then, so I forked over a few bucks and purchased Acrobits Softphone (www.acrobits.cz) for $6.99 CAD. Configuring the app with my Freephoneline account was a breeze! I tried calling out and calling in with the app and what can I say but, “awesome”! It provides excellent audio quality and the ability to customize audio settings to fine tune the calls (NOTE: I had to disable the “Echo Suppression” preference setting in Softphone because the iPod Touch 3G does not share the iPhone’s echo cancellation technology – keeping it active caused more echo and audio distortion). You can also configure the app with multiple VOIP/SIP accounts and switch between accounts at the touch of a button. Acrobits Softphone also has a 12 button quick dialer, history menu and contact list that allows you to instantly access your iPod’s address book contacts. Oh yeah, it also allows call recording!

Having used Softphone for a while, I found everything worked really well. Call quality is great, calls come in quickly and reliably, I can check my voicemails and see missed calls. Caller ID works and my name is also displayed at the other end when I make a call. This SIP phone combo rocks!

As a side note, Acrobits announced another SIP app called Groundwire. Essentially the same as Softphone, Groundwire is a business caliber SIP app that also allows multiple phone lines (accounts) to be active at once, voicemail notification, conference calling and call waiting as well. I purchased this app when they offered it at a low sale price as incentive to current Softphone owners to upgrade. The only issue I’ve had with Groundwire is that the voicemail notification doesn’t always appear, due to something in the way my Freephoneline account is structured. I’ve actually been in contact with Acrobits to try to resolve this issue; and have been told that they’ll try to incorporate a work around in an upcoming update. I will also say here, that Acrobits’ support has been extremely responsive and helpful. Kudos to them for such a great app and customer support.

There’s a lot more to Acrobits Softphone and Groundwire that I won’t elaborate on in this article. You can check out Acrobits at their website (www.acrobits.cz) for more details.

During this journey, I have been using Apple’s in-ear buds as the headset. I’ve tried using an external microphone (that plugs into the headphone jack) with the iPod Touch’s built in speaker; but I have to say that combo isn’t the greatest solution. What essentially happens is the audio from the speaker loops back into the microphone, causing the caller on the other end to hear a fair amount of echo. This is the same thing that happens when you use a desktop softphone with a dedicated microphone and speakers. It’s possible that the newly released iPod Touch 4th generation may have echo cancellation, due to the incorporation of the external mic for FaceTime. Until I get my hands on one of those, I’ll stick to the headset.

So, with my iPod Touch, headset and only about $57.00 CAD, I now have my very own WIFI mobile phone. I would say a pretty good deal, considering I avoided the typical monthly fees of owning a cell phone. I am a happy camper!

Wait, what about texting somebody? Well, I can do that for free with TextPlus4. But that’s another story for another article.

Now, if only there was a way to have constant WIFI access on my iPod wherever I go…

If you have any other ideas for SIP/VOIP services and apps you’d like to share, please feel free to send me a comment! We all love having options!

Safari의 플러그인으로는 Foxmark for Safari(Firefox와의 bookmark와 Sync해줌), Glims(전체화면, 탭기능, 검색확장기능),Safari_AdBlock(광고없애줌), DeliciousSafari(Delicious 관리), 1Password 및 Reader Helper 만 사용하고 있다.

7. Sync / Backup

Sync는 Dropbox (5G사용중)와 MobileMe의 “Back to my Mac”기능으로 회사에서 집의 Mac을 네트웍으로 접속해서 Finder에서 복사하거나 Chronosync 로 Sync를 시켜버린다.

In the span of less than a week, 911 Enable has made two exciting announcements regarding our E911 solutions for Avaya:

E911 solution certification with IP Office, to provide critical E911 support for small and medium businesses; and

Introduction of the E911 Softphone Locator (ESL) for Avaya IP Softphones

E911 Solution Certified with Avaya IP Office
E911 support for small and medium businesses (SMBs) is critically important, as they employ just over half of all private sector employees in the US (source: US Small and Medium Business Administration). Unfortunately, many IP-enabled SMBs don’t have adequate E911 support for their deployments, so their employees may not have access to 911 services in an emergency.

Avaya IP Office provides SMBs with access to advanced IP telephony features, and Avaya has certified 911 Enable’s Emergency Routing Service (ERS) with IP Office so SMBs can quickly and easily implement E911 services. The ERS provides SMBs with enterprise-class features like support for remote branches and teleworkers, and granular location provisioning. This certification means 911 Enable provides E911 solutions for all Avaya IP telephony platforms. Learn more here and here.

Introduction of the E911 Softphone Locator (ESL) for Avaya IP Softphones
More and more organizations are transitioning from traditional desk phones to softphones, to save money and provide their employees with greater mobility. For organizations using Avaya IP Softphones, determining the locations of these endpoints for 911 purposes was a challenge, and possibly even a barrier to implementation for those organizations in states with E911 legislation.

However, 911 Enable has now introduced the ESL for Avaya softphones to allow organizations to reap the benefits of softphones and still meet their E911 obligations. The ESL is software installed on PCs and laptops running Avaya IP Softphones, and is used to help 911 Enable’s Emergency Gateway (EGW) automatically discover and track softphone locations within an enterprise’s communications network. The great thing about the ESL is that it is completely transparent to the user, and does not require the user to manually enter and validate their location every time their softphone is activated. Click here to learn more about the ESL for Avaya IP Softphones.

Author :

OnSIP, from Junction Networks, offers professional, flexible, business-oriented Internet phone syste

OnSIP, from Junction Networks, offers professional, flexible, business-oriented Internet phone systems for business that could be a good value, depending on your needs.

What You Get

OnSIP offers most of the features one would expect from such systems, including call routing, voicemail, business hours rules, and advanced features like on-demand conference bridging and text chat from your browser. The service doesn’t offer faxing, though.

OnSIP doesn’t sell IP phones. Instead, the company web site offers useful reviews of hardware you may wish to purchase, along with detailed instructions on how to set them up. You can also choose to use an analog telephone adapter (ATA) to make an connection between the Internet and a standard phone, or you can use a softphone to connect directly from your computer. Most web workers will find the setup process fairly simple, but OnSIP doesn’t offer pre-configured phones the way RingCentral does.

The folks at OnSIP kindly sent me a Polycom SoundPoint IP 450 to test the service. This is a very nice phone, and worked well with OnSIP. Like a number of other IP phones, it doesn’t include a standard headset jack, opting instead for an RJ-10 connection, meaning that headsets are more expensive than you may be used to. But the speakerphone quality on the Polycom is excellent, and I found that both my callers and I liked the results.

Options and Pricing

OnSIP has chosen to price its services differently than most of its competitors. It offers several plans, all of which offer unlimited users, extensions and users. However, none of the plans include any incoming or outgoing minutes. Customers pay $2.00 per month per incoming phone number, plus 2.9 cents per minute for all incoming and outgoing calls (except calls to other extensions on your company’s system, which are free). Incoming toll-free calls are 3.9 cents per minute in the contiguous US.

With most companies offering bundles of minutes, paying by the minute might raise red flags. But OnSIP justifies its policy this way:

“Most competing VoIP providers charge a high fixed fee for each employee in your company on a monthly basis. Generally, that fixed fee includes unlimited calling minutes and use of a fixed set of features. These services range in price from $49.95 per month and up. Seems attractive right? There is a far better option.

With OnSIP, the average user pays a total monthly bill of $18. That’s about $1 per business day per month; a cost savings of at least 65 percent over competitive services. What is this based on? There is no special pricing, discounts or gimmicks factored in. It’s simply a fact that we charge less than every competitor we know of.”

I used this system to make all my long-distance calls for about three weeks, and made about $10 worth of calls. I calculate that my three-person company would probably pay $60-70 per month, which isn’t bad. So maybe OnSIP is right to structure its packages the way it does. But when you do your calculations, make sure to figure in the other charges that you may have to pay for. If you read the fine print from most other companies, they charge for these items, too, but OnSIP is perhaps more upfront about it.

Ordering

The online signup process is straightforward, and allows you to select the features you need. You can port existing phone numbers through the administrative web site for a one-time charge of $57. OnSIP offers a 30-day trial, requires no contracts, and allows upgrades, downgrades and cancellations at any time.

Managing Your Phone System

OnSIP provides two online portals for customers: an administrative site to manage extensions, groups and account data; and a user portal for individual extensions. The administrative site is a bit wonky, and it helps to know some basic Internet telephony terms, but the OnSIP knowledge base includes helpful step-by-step instructions and videos.

Quality and Reliability

As one would hope from a company catering to business, I found the quality and reliability of OnSIP connections to be excellent, even when I was also using my Internet connection for other purposes. I’m told that OnSIP owner Junction Networks is profitable and has been in business for five years, and serves thousands of customers, including some with over 100 users.

As Aliza wrote recently. you’ll want to consider a number of factors when choosing a phone system. For me, call quality, reliability, ease of use and pricing are paramount.

OnSIP will probably appeal to web workers who like flexibility, and are willing to do their own setup. I can also see OnSIP as being a supplement to a landline, which could be used for incoming calls and outgoing local calls. If you want a solution that takes less setting up, and you don’t want to worry about per-minute charges, you may prefer RingCentral. In any case, if you’re considering a business-grade phone system, you’ll want to do the math and see if OnSIP makes sense for you.

Have you tried OnSIP?
