<title><![CDATA[Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Demo Impressions (PSP)]]></title>

<p>As far as I know this is currently only available on the Japanese PSN store but fortunately a friend had it downloaded and popped it onto my memory stick.</p>
<p>Sadly my knowledge of Japanese is non existent so I can tell you nothing about the story or, in fact, anything that happened during the demo. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif' alt=':lol:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>What I can tell you was that the graphics were fantastic &#8211; I would say better than PS2 <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif' alt=':eek:' class='wp-smiley' />  &#8211; and that using the face buttons as a sort of &#8216;right stick&#8217; like Resistance: Retribution is a great move.</p>
<p>It took me ages to get out of the first deserted beach area due to lack of translation &#8211; my Codec was going off consistently but I had no idea how to answer it <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif' alt=':lol:' class='wp-smiley' />  Eventually I worked out what I was doing and moved on to the next section.</p>

<p>There were soldiers here and it was a case of take down or be taken down. Stealth was the order of the day but unfortunately the waiter must&#8217;ve written my order down incorrectly because a misplaced shot alerted everyone and their mother to my location. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':sad:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>After a particularly frantic shoot out in which I knocked out every opponent non lethally with tranquilliser darts <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif' alt=':cool:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Upon finishing that area we moved to some outbuildings/warehouses in the jungle where, with my new found Snake skills, I managed to take out every guard without an alert <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif' alt=':cool:' class='wp-smiley' />  Took me a while though <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif' alt=':lol:' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Next up was a heavily guarded tank that I am still yet to defeat and I suspect it might be a part of the game that you might need to get involved in co-op with someone else.</p>
<p>Nevertheless after playing this Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a no brainer for me &#8211; I&#8217;ll definitely be picking up a copy when it arrives on PSP next year.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Auf einem meiner Lieblingsblogs (BasicThinking) ist ein sehr interessanter Bericht zu dem neuen Betriebssystem Google Chrome OS erschienen. Mit dem Betriebssystem möchte Google groß in den Markt einsteigen und den Trend Cloud Computing, also dem Speichern und Ausführen von Anwendungen/Daten direkt von Servern und nicht mehr vom eigenen Computer (<a href="http://www.schieb.de/707974/wolkige-versprechungen-cloud-computing">toller aktueller Bericht auch hier zu finden</a>), endlich sinnvoll einsetzen. Auch Microsoft hat nach langer Zeit <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />  den Trend endlich erkannt und möchte lt. <a href="http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/0,1518,661935,00.html">Spiegel Berichten</a> mit Windows Azure bald groß einsteigen. Dabei setzt Chrome OS auf das Design vom Google Browser und arbeitet viel mit Tabs und Overlays (Fenster die vor dem Browser stehen). Mal sehen wie sich das bei den Games so weiterentwickelt, kleinere grafisch nicht so anspruchsvolle Spiele lassen sich, wie auf dem Video (ab Minute 5:50) zu sehen ist, problemlos starten.</p>

<p>Spiele die viel Speicherplatz benötigen, werden sicherlich anfangs nicht per Chrome OS bzw. per Cloud Computing spielbar sein. Dafür sind die Bandbreiten noch zu klein. Vorgesehen ist das Betriebssystem eigentlich für den Netbook Markt, man kann sich aber fast nicht vorstellen dass es dabei bleiben wird.</p>

Big Boss ist eine Figur aus dem Metal Gear Universum. Es wirkt so als ob es einen Fan bei Google gibt, kann aber natürlich auch Zufall sein. Zum vergrößern einfach auf das Bild klicken.</p>

<p>Recuerdo que al estar instalando <strong>Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots</strong> <em><strong>Snake</strong></em> se chingaba un cigarrito [bueno, fueron como 10 pero en fin...] aparecian unas recomendaciones en pantalla, como por ejemplo, q<em>ue fumar era perjudicial para la salud, jugar en un lugar bien iluminado, tomar descansos durante tiempos prolongados de juego&#8230;</em> Pues bien, este último se me viene a la mente, sobre todo después de ver la siguiente nota:</p>

<p>Konami ha anunciado que entre el mes de noviembre y febrero habrá 4 fechas para jugar 24 horas un torneo de Metal Gear Online.</p>

<p>Paul W.S. Anderson, who is currently shooting &#8220;Resident Evil: Afterlife&#8221;, has planned to keep himself busy after wrapping the movie. His partner in &#8220;Resident Evil&#8221;, producer Jeremy Bolt, recently told press that the helmer, who has been set to produce &#8220;The Three Musketeers&#8221;, is circling two upcoming movie projects.</p>
<p>According to Bolt, Anderson has once again eyed the helmer position for &#8220;Castlevania&#8221;, in which James Wan has been attached to direct. Additionally, he has put his name in the unofficial bidding for directing &#8220;Metal Gear Solid&#8221;.</p>
<p>&#8220;Castlevania&#8221;, based on classic video game with the same title, will follow Transylvanian knight who leads his men into a gothic castle to seek refuge from the Turkish army. The knights soon discover the castle is controlled by the original vampire. Paul W.S. Anderson will serve both as producer and writer of the 2010 movie.</p>

Produced by Michael De Luca, it is scheduled to be released in 2012.</p>

<title><![CDATA[MGS4: Release, Reaction, Retrospect]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Well, it&#8217;s been over a year since I wrote on this blog. Life took various twists and turns and I ended up one thousand miles from home. In that regard, I suppose, you could say my life is similar to the game I&#8217;m discussing in this post.</p>

<p>Metal Gear Solid 4 has been discussed to death. No doubt about it. However, even if you dig elbow deep into the recesses of the internet, you&#8217;d be hard pressed to find reviews that weren&#8217;t clouded in the excessive  hype, inflated scores and deep seated nostalgia that the finale of a series spanning two decades would naturally bring with it. Couple that with a fandom that goes to extreme lengths to defend even the most embarrassing aspects of their beloved franchise and you&#8217;ve got yourself a game that carries itself on name alone.</p>
<p>These articles weren&#8217;t without criticism, however. Many focus on the complaint that MGS4 often feels like watching a movie that intermittently asks you to play a video game to progress the plot. Others slam series creator Hideo Kojima&#8217;s penchant for the self referential and his less than subtle attempts to weave callbacks into the plot itself.  Attention is frequently drawn to the convoluted narrative, uneven game play, lazy explanations and frequent load screens.</p>
<p>So how did something that could be collectively summed up by critics as &#8220;a game that&#8217;s more of a poorly written, confusing, cliche-ridden movie than a game&#8221; receive <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_4#Critical_Reception" target="_blank">nearly perfect scores?</a></p>
<p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_4#Critical_Reception" target="_blank"><!--more--></a></p>
<p>MGS4 effectively streamlined some of the shortcomings of its predecessors, it took the trademark stealth approach of the series to some new locations, introduced some novel game play concepts and even managed to be visually stunning while doing so. But are these merits deserving of such acclaim when we take into account the aforementioned criticisms leveled against it? In retrospect, I believe the answer is no.</p>
<p><strong>This is mostly because Metal Gear Solid 4 did not and could not work as a standalone game in the series.</strong></p>
<p>For such a highly anticipated game that was being hailed as a &#8220;platform savior&#8221;&#8211;even getting its own PS3 bundle&#8211; it&#8217;s hardly accessible. I cringe to think of the level of WTF experienced by the unsuspecting gamer who picks this title up without any previous MGS experience. The plot tries to be a little more user friendly by having frequent &#8220;flashback&#8221; scenes that can be triggered by hitting the X button during cut scenes.</p>
<p>But who are these really for? They&#8217;re not expository enough to help the uninformed and as a lifelong Metal Gear fan, I didn&#8217;t need to see 15 pieces of dated character art and screen shots to remind me who Naomi Hunter is whenever her name is mentioned. If I choose not to watch these flashbacks, I have to endure an awkward, unnatural moment of silence during a cutscene brandished with a neon orange &#8220;X&#8221; symbol.  Things like this make me think that Kojima was so busy beating me over the head with nostalgia that he forgot to include the aspects of his works that <em>make </em>me nostalgic for them.</p>

<p>The codec is a perfect example of this.  In previous installments, the codec served as Snake&#8217;s connection to the world outside his mission. A team of analysts, weapons experts, medics and the like provided him with back up, humorous banter and optional expanded plot exposition every step of the way. In MGS4 , Snake is a more experienced soldier and the narrative seems to suggest that he doesn&#8217;t need back up anymore. But Otacon&#8211;one of the only two contacts in the entire game&#8211;still feels the need to tell Snake that he&#8217;s on a mission, how to fire a gun and that he needs to get from Point A to Point B. Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, that&#8217;s all Snake&#8217;s best friend really has to say. Whether you hated the codec conversations in the past or not, they were largely responsible for creating the feeling that Snake was on a solo mission and breathed life into the world around him. Having the option of hearing unnecessary amounts of detail about seemingly insignificant in-game objects was part of the magic of MGS.</p>
<p>And while the game still gives you the option to avoid fighting all together in favor of sneaking past guards, the level design and game mechanics in many ways make full force combat the more attractive option. Why would I care about hiding the body of a guard when so many areas of the game are full blown war zones? Why would I care about avoiding an alert status when I have close to thirty militiamen to assist me in combat? Kojima advertised the game with the slogan &#8220;No Place To Hide&#8221; at TGS 05, but it becomes clear that with nowhere to hide and no real places to infiltrate, the titular Tactical Espionage Action aspect is no where to be found.</p>
<p>At first glance, these sound like mild complaints that one could counter with the argument that Kojima could not have possibly addressed every fan desire. But when one recognizes that he went to painstaking lengths to do just that, it&#8217;s hard to understand how he managed to overlook so many elements of what separates Metal Gear from other action games.</p>
<p><strong>So, again, if MGS4 doesn&#8217;t entirely work as an MGS title and it&#8217;s not accessible enough to stand on its own two feet; why was it lavished with praise by pretty much every gaming publication on earth? </strong></p>
<p>Probably for the same reasons that I initially thought of it as a good game.<br />
It wrapped up the story that many dedicated gamers had been following for a decade or two, even if the explanations weren&#8217;t as cool as we expected them to be. We got to be Solid Snake again&#8211;for the first time since 1998&#8211;for the entire game, even if the game itself wasn&#8217;t that long. And even though there were instances that made us cringe, the fan service was effective enough to make us smile at least once. In a sense, Kojima could do no wrong. He delivered on his promise,  even if it wasn&#8217;t in the way we wanted. He let us bid farewell to a character and a game that at some point in our lives, we really cared about and even managed to give us a few more very memorable sequences along the way.</p>
<p>And for those reasons, game journalism took a break from objectivity.<br />
Even if it doesn&#8217;t make much sense in retrospect.</p>

<p><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-754" title="CA3A0003" src="http://gacktpause.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/ca3a0003.jpg" alt="CA3A0003" width="450" height="600" /><span style="color:#ff6600;">And aside from totally throwing me off in every way, I find DST really exciting. If everything else fails, let the twice-a-year time-change exhilarate your life&#8230; I always have a hard time wrapping my head around the logic of DST. All the leaping forward and falling back and gaining hours and losing hours and the great extra sunshine in those god-forbidden hours no decent person should be doomed to witness. I was sort of paranoid that none of the clocks were going to change automatically, and I was going to sleep in too much and miss the early AM panels [at the con]. The hotel clock wasn&#8217;t automatic, but my phone didn&#8217;t fail totally, and at 2 AM when I checked the time it had performed its duty, and no panels were missed. No, rather, I woke up 1.30 hrs before the alarm went off. Now I feel like a Laputacian robot that needs some axle grease, requiring a very sturdy spatula to peel my crippled and still breathing carcass off the pocky-crumb dusted floor&#8230;  <img class="alignright size-full wp-image-755" title="laputa03" src="http://gacktpause.wordpress.com/files/2009/11/laputa03.jpg" alt="laputa03" width="250" height="144" /><br />

<p><span style="color:#ff6600;">The only thing I really missed this weekend was the music. Follow up from earlier post: con #1 of con: super extra no Jrock at the dance this year. Plus it started late and finished early, but what&#8217;s a chap to do, eh? Right before they played the last song, they said something about because it was an anime convention, needing to end it with certain style, so they played a high-energy meow-meow candy-pop song. If they were really worried about that, they should have played Jpop the whole (or even a 1/3) the way through. No, I&#8217;m not &#8216;con&#8217;plaining. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  Also, the dubious &#8220;Intro to Jrock&#8221; panel was removed from the events-list this year, much to my relief.<br />

<p><em>Mega Man X 3</em> is like a whitewashed tomb: its pristine and beautiful exterior belies the putrid, rotting corpse within.  I don&#8217;t usually subscribe to the whole graphics versus gameplay diametric, but this time the relationship is definitely inverse.  In Capcom&#8217;s efforts to make a better looking, better sounding <em>Mega Man</em>, they actually forgot how to make a <em>Mega Man</em> game in the process.  Deliberately unforgiving level designs densely populated with death machines hell-bent on your destruction give way to sparse, open, and redundant rooms, sometimes filled with nothing at all.  The former &#8211; characteristic of the NES originals &#8211; was frustrating yet strangely fulfilling, to the point where you may find yourself yelling to no one in particular, &#8220;I AM A HARDCORE GAMER!!&#8221; after some astounding feat or other.  The latter will have you scratching your head, wondering when the game will suddenly kick into gear and become a real <em>Mega Man</em> game.  This, of course, never happens.</p>

<p>I kid you not, some of these rooms exist for no reason whatsoever.  You run into the room, only to immediately run out of it again (you even unlock a door on both ends).  And yet, during both these events, the &#8216;camera&#8217; slide-transitions as if to signify &#8216;this is the next area&#8217;.  That&#8217;s just stupid!  If I was the artist, I&#8217;d be pissed, not only for wasting a perfectly serviceable room, but also for wasting my valuable time.</p>
<p>X 3 is full of these unnecessary flourishes that force you to expect more than it can hope to deliver.  The polished visuals and cyperpunk settings scream &#8216;anime&#8217;, but its back foot remains firmly planted in the NES era.  The &#8217;story&#8217;, &#8216;acting&#8217; and dialogue is especially cringeworthy, and while I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;s no worse than what you&#8217;d expect to find in <em>Mega Man</em>s <em>(Men?)</em> <em>1</em> through to <em>6</em>, at least they were upfront about their intentions: to be <em>games</em>.  By bringing the presentation forward, Capcom have announced their anime aspirations.  By leaving the rest behind, the game appears naked and antiquated.  The playable &#8216;intro&#8217; would have been nice if it wasn&#8217;t just a pre-game wank.  You&#8217;re Mega Man, you run in there, blow up a few things, only to get punked by a former ally within the first minute (&#8220;you&#8217;re far too trusting, Mega Man!&#8221;).</p>

<p>This is the game&#8217;s &#8216;Raiden&#8217; moment, where Zero (a robot replete with ridiculous anime hair, originally groomed to be the star of the <em>X</em> series) must rescue Mega Man.  Except, instead of saying &#8220;I thought this was called <em>Metal Gear Solid</em> because it had <em>Solid</em> Snake in it&#8221;, you&#8217;ll be saying, &#8220;I thought this was a <em>Mega Man</em> game!&#8221;  Once you&#8217;ve rescued him, though, it&#8217;s back to business as usual, and Mega Man will be handling things from here, <em>thank you very much</em>.  This &#8216;intro&#8217; seems to have served no other purpose than to show off a playable Zero character, only to neuter the titular character in the process.  For the rest of the game, Zero is relegated to piece work and similarly showy cameos.</p>

<p>I tried oh so hard to love this game, but I couldn&#8217;t help but compare it to its uglier, more frustrating cousins &#8211; you know, games with some semblance of <em>level design</em>.  And then it dawned on me that level design, important though it is, is never graded by the mainstream gaming press alongside the bullet points of graphics/sound/gameplay/replay value.  Even though graphics should be servant to level design; good gameplay is a symptom of good level design; and replay value is a symptom of good gameplay. Followed closely by:  <em>how many poorly designed videogames got a pass on those four bullet points alone?</em> Answered by: <em>probably this one, for starters! </em>And then I started thinking about games with good level design, and booted up a new game of <em>Super Metroid</em>.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Somewhere deep within the many folded recesses of Slackerninja&#8217;s dark, dank, rotting carcass of a brain lies a spot working overtime. Where the entire mind is in a state of decay this one specific area functions as pristinely as ever.  Think of it as the only block in a blackened out neighborhood that has a generator up and running, as if untouched by the many vices of the world namely routine, work, drama and general bullshit that leaves us shot to pieces, frazzled and totally fucked up.</p>
<p>This hallowed space, ladies and gentlemen is the caffeine zone. With the right amount of caffeine ingested in the appropriate form (this case being a cinnamon ice blended coffee from Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf), magic happens.  Though normal people call it retardation, for the sake of the delusionality of this post we&#8217;ll call it magic.</p>
<p>Having said that, we find our protagonist sitting in a room. Since he&#8217;s got the mental age of an obedient three year old what with having it drilled into his head by his mom that children should be seen not heard he plays a silent spectator (maybe because he&#8217;s strapped to a chair and straight jacketed as well?) to the drama that unfolds between an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_Snake">old war hero who&#8217;s saved the world more times then he&#8217;d like to remember</a>, <a href="http://bioshock.wikia.com/wiki/Andrew_Ryan">a Citizen Kane-esque Despot who built his own paradise underwater</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_Reznor">the frontman of Nine Inch Nails</a>. Oh and a certain <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/vertexed">whimsical photographer</a> with a penchant for stealing the show. All dressed in attire out of your favorite medical dramedy of the week be it ER, Grey&#8217;s Anatomy or Scrubs.</p>
<p><strong>Junk:</strong> So gentlemen, diagnosis?</p>
<p><strong>Solid Snake:</strong> Slackerninja has changed. It&#8217;s no longer about  games, fun or moments of pure awesome. It&#8217;s an endless series of fail meetings, drama and daily drudgery.  Fail, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. Slackerninja has changed. Carries his ID, his every movement is tracked , every move monitored, every decision questioned. All in the name of control. Coffee control. Alcohol control. Bowel control. Bladder control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. Slackerninja has changed. The age of win has become the age of fail. All in the name of covering his ass. Slackerninja has changed. When his life   is under total control, Slackerninja&#8230;becomes routine. *lights a cigarette *</p>
<p><strong>Junk: </strong>Smoke that fag off your chest!</p>
<p><strong>Solid Snake:</strong> What the hell?</p>
<p><strong>Junk: </strong>Tobacco contains benzopyrene, which converts into benzopyrene diolate in the body, which attaches itself to the P53 gene of the lung, and causes certain pre-cancerous effects. I Stumble-Uponed it this morning.</p>
<p><strong>Solid Snake:</strong> Oh..okay.</p>
<p><strong>Andrew Ryan</strong> (looking straight at our chair strapped,  the straight jacketed protagonist): I am Andrew Ryan, and I&#8217;m here to ask you a question. Is a ninja not entitled to his cookies? &#8216;No!&#8217; says the man in office, &#8216;It belongs to me.&#8217; &#8216;No!&#8217; says the sister at home, &#8216;It belongs to Jimmy Choo.&#8217; &#8216;No!&#8217; says the nameless game peddler at PlayAsia , &#8216;It belongs to everyone&#8230; at our store&#8217; A ninja should reject those answers; instead,  chose something different. Chose the impossible. Chose&#8230; a permanent vaction! Where the ninja would not fear the office man, where the brother would not be bound by petty sibling morality, Where the great gaming needs would not be constrained by the small offerings at PlayAsia! And with your awesomeness, you can be better off as well.</p>
<p><strong>Junk:</strong> Kuch nahin hoga re.</p>
<p><strong>Andrew Ryan: </strong>Why?</p>
<p><strong>Junk: </strong>He has no leave days left. Or cookies. Besides it seems more than that. Trent, tell the man.</p>

I think I used to have a voice. Now I never make a sound. I just do what I’ve been told. I really don’t want them to come around. Oh, no. Every day is exactly the same.</p>

<p><strong>Trent Reznor</strong> (croons again): I can feel their eyes are watching. In case I lose myself again. Sometimes I think I’m happy here. Sometimes, yeah, I still pretend. I can’t remember how this got started. But I can tell you exactly how it will end.</p>
<p><strong>Junk:</strong> Being schizophrenic and paranoid doesn&#8217;t help either.</p>
<p><strong>Trent Reznor </strong>(looking at Janak menacingly): What? Excuse me?</p>
<p><strong>Junk</strong>: Not you. Him!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>As I stated in my last post, I was in the middle of playing <em>Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty</em> last week.  I&#8217;m now about done with <em>Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater</em>.  I&#8217;m working my way up to finally playing <em>Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots</em> for the first time.  I wanted to play them all starting with the original MSX <em>Metal Gear</em> and work my way through the series because I think it is such a great overall story.</p>
<p>As I finished MGS2 last week, I realized that the final soliloquy from Snake sums up very well for me my own feelings about children.  I am 33, married, and have no kids.  There is no biological reason for this.  My wife and I simply choose not to have any.  There are many things in my life I feel I have to live for, and while I do not begrudge anyone who lives solely for their children, I have believed for a very long time that I have other things to live for.</p>
<p>So in the future, should someone ask me why I do not have children, I am going to direct them to this blog post, which sums up my feelings and puts said feelings into words exactly how I wish I could express them.  You can see the speech delivered quite masterfully by Snake voice actor David Hayter.  Or if the link ever gets taken down, I will also include the text of the speech below the video.<br />

<p><strong>Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy</strong> es una película <strong>sin fines de lucro</strong> realizada por un grupo de estudiantes llamado <strong>Hive Division</strong>. Claramente no guarda relación ninguna con la empresa que realizó el juego (<em>Kojima Productions</em>) pero si mantiene el hilo argumental del mismo. Es decir, sí, tenemos a Snake y tenemos <strong>una película sobre Metal Gear Solid</strong>.</p>
<p>Hace años que se viene trabajando esta idea, y realmente acá es donde yo introduzco un aplauso vía internet a estas personas por el <strong>MAGNÍFICO</strong> trabajo que realizaron. Sí, esa misma palabra.<br />
Es decir, básicamente son personas que por amor a la saga y al cine decidieron hacer por su cuenta una película que realmente les quedó MUY bien para haberse gastado <strong>únicamente la suma de 10.000 euros</strong> y <strong>cinco años de trabajo</strong>.<br />
La película, pese a venir de italianos, está completamente en inglés y tengo que admitir que se pasaron con la voz de Solid Snake, les quedó muy muy bien. Lo mismo con los efectos 3D, los Metal Gears, en fin, la mayoría de los efectos están perfectamente logrados. Quizás deberían pulir un poco las explosiones (?).</p>

<p>Sobre la música&#8230; ¡Otro buen punto!.<br />
Aunque obviamente quiero decirles que mi crítica se basa en el argumento de <em>&#8220;No se gastaron fortunas como en Hollywood, así que si lograron algo decente vale como bueno-excelente&#8221;</em> (y encima me salió una especie de rima).</p>
<p>La película tiene algunos guiños del juego, como la inclusión de escenas estilo-codec, con el sonido y todo (Cuando lo escuché pensé <em>&#8220;Ahora si que valió la pena bajar 700 mb&#8221;</em>) y algunos chistes bastante usuales en la obra de Kojima (es decir, hicieron un buen trabajo con esas cosas para que se mantenga cierta esencia de lo original).</p>

<p>Ahora pasemos a la historia.<br />
La resumo sin spoilers ni nada raro: Philanthropy <em>-como bien sabe cualquiera que haya jugado Metal Gear Solid 2-</em> es el grupo que crearon Snake y Otacon para prevenir la creación de nuevos MGs y pelear contra la tiranía del mundo (?). En esta película, situada temporalmente antes del título antes mencionada, la idea es que Snake se ve envuelto en una misión en la que debe rescatar a un Senador en un lugar hostil. Bastante común y siguiendo la plantilla de lo que ya conocemos.<br />
No voy a contar nada más ya que tampoco llegamos a conocer mucho.<br />
Podría mencionar la aparición de dos nuevos personajes: un francotirador llamado <em>Pierre Leclerc</em> y una chica bastante rara (ya sabrán por qué) llamada <em>Elizabeth Laeken</em>.</p>

<p>Digo <em>&#8220;tampoco llegamos a conocer mucho&#8221;</em> ya que lo que hay hasta ahora (desafortunadamente) <strong>es solo la primera parte</strong>, con una duración de una hora. El resto llegaría basándose en la recepción por parte de la gente para con el estreno.</p>
<p>Sobre la distribución, como dije, es sin fines de lucro, por lo cual podremos encontrar la película online (en su página principal), en descarga directa y otros métodos más. También tendremos dos versiones en distintas calidades (yo bajé la de 700 mb desde Megaupload). Tendremos también disponibles subtitulos &#8220;oficiales&#8221; en casi todos los idiomas (incluido Español de España y Español de latinoamérica, este último siempre agradecido).</p>
<p>Más no puedo contarles. Solo puedo mantener mi postura de que me encuentro muy satisfecho después de haber encontrado esto y ver que existen proyectos así me pone muy feliz. Es decir, repito, gastaron únicamente 10000 euros e hicieron un trabajo impecable.<br />
Realmente tengo que felicitar a Hive Division y recomendarles a todos mis lectores (solo a los que hayan jugado MGS y tengan algún tipo de amor por la saga) que vean la película. En cuanto lean cosas como <em>&#8220;Outer Heaven&#8221;</em>, o <em>&#8220;Philanthropy&#8221;</em> incluso, van a saber que están volviendo a ver a Snake en acción. Aunque no sea oficial ni nada. Well, if you did you know that one of the most fun aspects of the game is being able to blend into any environment with Snake&#8217;s &#8220;octocamo&#8221; suit. Well, apparently the artist by the name of<strong> Lui Bolin</strong> wanted to do the same thing. Only problem? There is no such thing as an octocamo suit&#8230; Turns out it didn&#8217;t bother him one bit and he went on to still create some CRAZY photos. Check it:</p>

<p>Tolle Spielbarkeit, hübsche Grafik und viele verschiedene Kämpfer, das sind die Erfolgszutaten für <strong>Tekken 3</strong><span style="font-weight:normal;">. Bei der großen Charakter-Auswahl ist für jeden Spieler ein(e) passende(r) Kämpfer(in) dabei. Nehme ich Eddy, der wie ein aufgekratzter Sportler nicht ruhig auf der Stelle stehen kann und die wildesten Verrenkungen vollführt? Oder lieber Hwoarang, der mit seinem langen Beinen Gegner zurück auf den Boden der Tatsachen holt? Oder, oder, oder&#8230; Die Grafik war damals sehr hübsch und bestach vor allem durch flüssige Animationen, bunte Effekte und aufwändige Rendersequenzen. Wer fleißig gespielt hat, schaltete zudem den sogenannten „Tekken Ball Mode“ frei. Darin stehen sich zwei Spieler gegenüber und schlagen oder treten auf einen Ball ein. Der fliegt dann zum anderen Spieler, der den Ball im richtigen Moment zurückschlagen muss. Der Clou: Je öfter der Ball einen Treffer kassiert, desto schneller wird er. Ist das Tempo am Anfang sehr moderat, geht es später um schnelle Reflexe. Wer dann zu spät oder zu früh auf die Tasten haut, wird vom Ball getroffen und hat die Runde verloren. Extrem simpel, extrem spaßig.</span></p>

<p style="margin-bottom:0;">Es gibt da ein Spiel, mit dem man sich locker wochenlang beschäftigen kann: <strong>Front Mission 3</strong>.  Das Spielprinzip erinnert an den Klassiker<strong> Battle Isle</strong>. Sie kommandieren rundenweise eine Handvoll Mechs (hier Wanzer genannt) auf kleinen oder großen Schlachtfeldern. Erst dürfen Sie ihre Einheiten in Stellung bringen und feindliche Truppen angreifen, danach ist die künstliche Intelligenz an der Reihe. Nun, was ist so besonders an diesem an sich bekannten Spielprinzip? Erstens: Ihre Einheiten verbessern sich im Kampf. Sie lernen neue Fähigkeiten, wie etwa höhere Treffsicherheit, die anschließend zufällig bei Angriffen eingesetzt werden. Außerdem dürfen sie von Zeit zu Zeit neue Ausrüstung für ihre Wanzer kaufen, was zum Weiterspielen motiviert. Zweitens: Die Geschichte dreht sich um einige zentrale Figuren, die sie während der strategischen Kämpfe befehligen. <p>Denke ich zurück an <strong>Vagrant Story</strong>, kommen mir solche Dinge wie „packend-inszenierte Geschichte“ oder „tolles Kampfsystem“ in den Sinn. Das Rollenspiel ging in vielerlei Hinsicht neue Wege. Die Geschichte wurde in tollen Zwischen- sequenzen erzählt – und das, obwohl sie ohne Sprachausgabe auskommen. Mit dem Helden fieberte man bald mit, wurde doch seine unschuldige Familie umgebracht. Auch das Kampfsystem bot Neues: Traf man auf einen Gegner, fror die Zeit ein. Nun konnte man in aller Ruhe ein Körperteil anvisieren (ähnlich wie heutzutage in <strong>Fallout 3</strong>). Doch es ging auch um schnelle Reflexe. Im richtigen Moment galt es, die Angriffstaste zu drücken, um einen weiteren Schlag auszuführen. Nach dem ersten konnten Sie einen weiteren Treffer landen, haben Sie das passende Zeitfenster erwischt und so weiter und so fort. Doch viele Treffer in Folge hatten auch ihren Preis: Die „Risk“-Leiste füllte sich, sodass die Wahrscheinlichkeit sank, Gegner bei folgenden Attacken zu verletzten. Da hilft dann nur, einen Trank zu sich zu nehmen, der das „Risk“-Level wieder senkt. Neben diesen Alleinstellungsmerkmalen durften Sie obendrein noch eigene Waffen zusammenbauen.</p>

<p>Was hier 1999 in Deutschland erschien, sollte die Spiele-Landschaft nachhaltig beeinflussen. <strong>Metal Gear Solid</strong> machte nicht nur den Schöpfer Hideo Kojima zu einem der berühmtesten Spiele-Entwickler, es folgten auch viele weitere Spiele, die das Prinzip ums Schleichen und Austricksen der künstlichen Intelligenz aufgriffen. Als Solid Snake sollen Sie eine Terroristen-Basis infiltrieren, so viel zum Ausgangspunkt der Handlung. Dafür schleichen Sie sich an allerlei Wachen vorbei, lenken Sie ab und überwältigen Sie. Natürlich kommen auch Schusswaffen zum Einsatz, doch die Munition ist meist knapp und daher ist eher subtiles Vorgehen gefragt. Die spannende Handlung und das durchdachte Spielprinzip sorgten für so große Begeisterung, dass weitere Nachfolger und Erweiterungen erschienen.</p>

<p>Die bekannteste Ego-Shooter- Marke heutzutage ist wohl <strong>Call of Duty</strong> mit dem demnächst erscheinenden <strong>Modern Warfare 2</strong>. Im Jahr 2000 war eine andere Reihe bestens bekannt: <strong>Medal of Honor</strong>. Damals erschien der zweite (Playstation-)Teil: <strong>Medal of Honor: Underground</strong>. Als französische Widerstandskämpferin sabotierten Sie die Achsenmächte. Auch wenn Sie manchmal als Fotografin verkleidet feindliche Lager ausspionierten, waren Sie die meiste Zeit mit dem Gewehr im Anschlag unterwegs. Die abwechslungsreichen Levels führten sie durch Frankreich, Italien, Griechenland, Deutschland und Afrika. Der hervorragende Soundtrack sorgte für eine intensive Spielerfahrung, die Gefechte machten einfach eine Menge Spaß und die grafische Qualität war für Playstation-Verhältnisse sehr gut.</p>

<p><strong>Diablo</strong> ist eine der Spielmarken überhaupt. Inbegriff der Sammelwut. Wegbereiter für das <strong>BattleNet</strong>. Erfolgsmarke von <strong>Blizzard</strong>. Glücklicherweise haben die Entwickler auch an die Playstation-Besitzer gedacht und eine angepasste Version für die Konsolen-Spieler herausgebracht. Natürlich musste die Steuerung des Action-Rollenspiels für das Gamepad angepasst werden. Kurios: Während das Spiel auf dem PC nur in englischer Sprache erschien, wurde die Playstation-Portierung übersetzt. Das Spielprinzip blieb aber unberührt. Am Anfang entscheiden Sie sich für eine von drei Charakter-Klassen (Krieger, Jägerin oder Zauberer) und erforschen nach und nach jedes der 16 zufallsgenerierten Levels. Dabei treffen Sie auf Horden von Monstern, die sie bekämpfen. Sie erhalten Erfahrungspunkte, steigen im Level auf und dürfen die Attribute ihres Helden verbessern. Außerdem lassen manche Gegner wertvolle Items fallen, etwa Rüstungen, magische Ringe oder bessere Schwerter. Das Prinzip ist simpel, lässt Sie aber nicht so schnell wieder los. Auf dem PC dürfen Sie im <strong>BattleNet</strong> mit anderen Spielern die Dungeons erforschen,  die Playstation-Version dürfen Sie immerhin zusammen mit einem Freund/einer Freundin spielen. Manche Spieler dürfen es doof finden, dass man stets zusammen auf einem Bildschirm die Gegend erkundet. Ich finde das gerade besonders gut, da man stets zusammen unterwegs ist und sich so ein starkes „Wir-Gefühl“ entwickelt. <strong>Diablo</strong> wurde von <strong>Blizzard</strong> vorbildlich auf die Playstation portiert, einzig die langen Ladezeiten nerven etwas.</p>

<p><strong>Frontschweine </strong><span style="font-weight:normal;">greift das Spielprinzip von </span><strong>Worms</strong><span style="font-weight:normal;"> auf und reichert es mit einer netten Einzelspieler-Kampagne an. Rundenweise bewegen Sie ein Schwein aus ihrer Truppe über die dreidimensionalen Schlachtfelder, entscheiden sich für eine Waffe, zielen, legen Winkel und Feuerkraft fest und hoffen, dass sie möglichst großen Schaden beim gegnerischen Team anrichten. Sind alle feindlichen Truppen erledigt, ist die Mission gewonnen. Die Kampagne ist witzig präsentiert und motiviert, denn Sie dürfen ihre Truppen später auch aufwerten. Das Ganze macht zusammen mit Freund enbesonders Laune. Auch wenn der Schwierigkeitsgrad im Verlauf der Kampagne etwas zu stark ansteigt (Stichwort: Treffsicherheit der künstlichen Intelligenz), so wurde mit </span><strong>Frontshweine</strong><span style="font-weight:normal;"> ein bekanntes Spielprinzip gelungen adaptiert.</span></p>

<p>Zugegeben, <strong>Star Wars: Episode I: Jedi Power Battles </strong>gehört nicht unbedingt in eine Bestenliste. In dem Actionspiel schnetzeln Sie sich als Lichtschwert-schwingender Jedi durch Unmengen von Feinden. Eigentlich ist das nichts besonderes. Doch es gibt eine Sache, die das Spiel aufwertet: der kooperative Mehrspielermodus. In dem dürfen Sie zusammen mit einem Freund/einer Freundin durch die Levels rennen. Das macht noch einmal deutlich mehr Spaß, als das Spiel alleine zu bestreiten. Als nervig sind mir die Sprungpassagen in Erinnerung geblieben, bei denen man schnell wertvolle Credits verlor.</p>

Este é o nome do filme 	sem fins lucrativos feito por fãs da série Metal Gear do nosso querido amigo <span style="text-decoration:line-through;">cheio de ideias mirabolantes</span><span style="color:#000000;"><del datetime="2009-10-01T23:00:20+00:00"></del></span> Hideo Kojima. O filme era um simples passatempo entre amigos, até que se tornou um filme de grande competência. Hoje está pronto e pode ser baixado via eMULE ou Torrent ou assistido no <a href="http://www.mgs-philanthropy.net/eng/">site oficial</a>. Se quiserem ver via YouTube, é só entrar <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/salidan1">neste canal</a> que está dividido em partes.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Um dos jovens produtores do filme, Giacomo Talamini, é quem dirige o fan-movie e interpreta também o papel de Solid Snake. Segundo ele, foi tentado ao máximo trazer partes e vários elementos dos três primeiros jogos da saga Metal Gear para o filme. O objetivo era que o curta ficasse o mais completo possível, agradando aos fãs da série.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Estamos em 2014, cinco anos após os incidentes em Big Shell (MGS2). MGS4 tráz um mundo onde a intervenção militar em solo estrangeiro está proibida, aumentando a necessidade de Private Military Companies (Companhias Militares Privadas, PMCs), para travar guerras de negócios. A nanotecnologia tornou-se importantíssima, tanto para aumentar as habilidades dos soldados, como para reforçar a fidelidade dos mercenários. O sistema nanotecnológico que as PMCs usam é chamado de &#8220;Sons of the Patriots&#8221; (SOP). As cinco maiores PMCs (Praying Mantis, Otselotovaya Khvatka, Werewolf, Pieuvre Armement e Raven Sword) são controladas por uma única companhia, chamada Outer Heaven, comandada por Liquid-Ocelot. Reunindo um exército capaz de rivalizar com o americano, Liquid-Ocelot prepara uma revolta armada com o objectivo de tomar controle absoluto do SOP. Com o mundo mais uma vez em crise, um desacreditado Solid Snake é &#8220;jogado&#8221; no Oriente Médio com a missão de eliminar definitivamente Liquid. O jogo se situa em cinco localidades: Oriente Médio, América do Sul, Leste europeu, Shadow Moses e Outer Heaven.</p>

<p>Metal Gear Solid, the official movie thats to be release in 2012 has some competition. However, a group of die-hard MGS fans in Italy have been working hard since 2002 to release a full length feature with the infamous Solid Snake. Yes that’s right, the boys and girls of Hive Division have gone and made a non-profit movie(a trilogy) with basically no capital and I must say they have done a terrific job.</p>
<p>Part 1 of the Trilogy which was released on the 27th of September  was quite interesting to watch. The dialogue and acting may not be that of a Hollywood production but hey these guys did it with no outside funding. The movie captures the in-game cinematic feel, as a matter of fact the first half of the movie felt like i was watching clips from the game it self, more or less.<!--more--> The Metal Gear in the movie (thats the robot/machine thing, if your a MGS fan id assume you’d know) may not have been what i  was expecting, but short clip at the end, The Secret Cut, made up for it. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
