Der Komponist Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom der Oper, Evita) ist an Prostatakrebs erkrankt. Die Krankheit sei bei ihm allerdings noch im Frühstadium. Der 61-jährige hofft nun noch vor Jahresende seine Arbeit wieder aufnehmen zu können. Sein aktuelles Projekt ist eine Fortsetzung des Klassikers Phantom der Oper, die den Titel Love Never Dies tragen wird. Zuletzt war es ruhiger um den umjubelten Musiker geworden, seinen letzten Auftritt hatte er beim Eurovision Song Contest, wo seine Komposition My Time den fünften Platz belegte.

Prostatakrebs ist einer der häufigsten Krebserkrankungen des Mannes. Allein in Deutschland erkranken jährlich 58000 Menschen an ihr; bei der Gruppe der an Krebs erkrankten Männer sterben im Schnitt etwas 10% daran. Die Bekämpfung der Krankheit ist bisher kein explizit formuliertes nationales Gesundheitsziel.

Feted to be called Intervision, the new contest is designed to compete with Eurovision.

Backed by ex-Commie stud muffin, Abba-loving poli, Vladimir Putin (see pic), the contest will involve member countries of Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO), a six-nation defence bloc comprised of Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan all have observer status in SCO but, with any luck, no singing status.

We just hope that if it gets off the ground the competitor countries treat the competition with a little more flippancy than Russia did in 2008, when Putin described its Eurovision win as “a victory for all of Russia”.

You see, as we found out in an earlier post, rather than encouraging cultural ties, these contests can be taken waaaaaayyyy too seriously by some countries, especially those places with inferiority complexes or insecure political systems.

As an additional note, I see that Russia ratified the United Nations Convention Against Torture back in 1987. Therefore, I’m fairly certain you could successfully take a case to the International Criminal Court for cruel and inhuman punishment if you were forced to listen to anymore of this song contest rubbish.

Postul public de televiziune din Norvegia, NRK, a făcut calculele şi a ajuns la concluzia că bugetul pentru concursul Eurovision 2010 se ridica la 24 de milioane de euro, cu 7 milioane mai mult decât se estimase iniţial.
Pentru o apreciere mai exactă, Rusia a cheltuit aproximativ 27 milioane de euro pentru ediţia din acest an a consursului Eurovision.

Directorul NRK, Annika Biornstad, a ţinut să precizeze că suma menţionată este una preliminară, ea urmând a fi modificată pe parcurs.

O parte din bani vor fi obţinuţi din vânzarea biletelor şi de la EBU (European Broadcasting Union)  aproximativ 3,5 milioane euro. Restul… până la 9 milioane ar putea fi primiţi de la autorităţi.

Ich kam etwas exotisch mit der Post an,aber es hat sich gelohnt,der Laenge nach auf einer Mischung aus Holzkisten und Zeitungstapeln zu liegen,haette ich in einer Mashrutka nicht haben koennen. Porto ist auch nicht so schlimm gewesen und ich kam relativ gut gelaunt an,auch wenn das bald getruebt wurde,als ich erstmal zwei Stunden damit verbrachte ein Hotel zu suchen. Angefangen bei den guenstigens,aber sie waren alle komplett ausgebucht,warum auch immer. Gerade als ich mich abfinden wollte,die 16$ oder mehr fuer die Nacht ausgeben zu muessen,kam ein Mensch in meinem Alter auf mich zu und fragte in perfektem Englisch,ob ich denn Hilfe benoetigen wuerde. Nun gut,ein Internetcafe waere ganz huebsch gewesen,und ich fragte ihn danach. War auch kein Problem,wirklich gefreut habe ich mich dann aber,als er mir einfach anbot,die Nacht im Haus seiner Familie zu verbringen. Klang mehr als gut,und ich nahm dankend an.

Er ist ein netter Kerl,vielleicht abgesehen davon das er seine Schwester enthaupten wuerde,wenn sie eine voreheliche Beziehung eingeht,weil das seine “tuerkischen Traditionen” von ihm als Bruder und Waechter der Ehre verlangen. Und Juden natuerlich auch ein ganz grosses Uebel sind,passend dazu das Hitler ein “beautiful man” war. Nun gut,ich fand es irgendwie interessant,da ich noch nie die Chance hatte,mit so einem Menschen zu reden,auch wenn es mich vor ein gewisses Dilemma stellte. Ich war der Kuehlschrankvertreter am Nordpol,oder wie verkauft man einem Antisemiten,dass der Holocaust vielleicht doch nicht ganz so leiwand gewesen ist,und sexuelle Selbstbestimmung alles andere,als ein Werk Satans darstellt.
Es war dann in dieser Hinsicht aber etwas enttaeuschend,da sein Englisch unverstaendlich wurde,und er wild die Themen wechselte,wenn ich ihn aufregte,und das gelang mir mit meinen humanistisch gepraegten Ansichten doch die meiste Zeit.

Stoff den er mir zum lesen gab,oder zum anschauen,wie auch immer. Es war naemlich mehr ein Bilderbuch, nur keines von denen die ich frueher so geliebt habe, sondern eher voll von Leichen,Leid und Zerfall. Und Schuldzuweisungen an die armenischen Bestien. Was ich darin nicht fand war die Erwaehnung des an eben jenen begangen Genozids oder dem Massaker von Sumquait,welches die Spirale der Gewalt massgeblich in Schwung brachte,welche im Krieg ueber Bergkarabach ihr Ende fand. Propaganda also,nur wer hat Interesse derart einseitigen,unreflektierten Hass zu schueren? Die Antwort darauf fand ich im Vorwort, “published by the state department of Azerbaijan.” Ein Nebensatz,ganz unscheinbar in tausenden Woertern verborgen , und trotzdem alles in den Schatten stellend.
Aserbaidschan hat den Krieg gegen Armenien damals verloren,und das ist bis heute nicht aufgearbeitet,unter anderem weil die Regierung kein Interesse daran hat. Viel zu gut passt so ein Feindbild in die Agenda eines Staates und Praesidenten,den wahrscheinlich nicht einmal Gerhard S. als lupenrein bezeichnen koennte.  (vgl) Eben jener naemlich, welcher ein Gesetz verabschieden liess, welches Wahlen im Kriegszustand als unnoetig ansieht. (Waffenstillstand =! Friedensabkommen)
Laecheln, als ich die Geschichte ueber den Eurovision Songcontest im Hinblick auf diesen Konflikt hoerte, beschreibt es das Verhaeltnis  mit Armenien doch mehr als gut. Letztere will dort naemlich einfach niemand sehen,also gab es in Aserbaidschan anstatt des Beitrages nur Werbung zu sehen,und am Ende,als eine Tafel alle Laender mit den jeweiligen Nummern anzeigte,um die Menschen zum anrufen zu bewegen,ist ein gewisser Teil des Bildschirms merkwuerdig schwarz gewesen. Man darf sich vorstellen,was dort eigentlich zu sehen gewesen waere und das es in Armenien unzensiert lief,auch.
Was Vusal mir in Buchform ueber das eine Feindbild gab,brachte das Fruehstuecksfernsehen dann ueber ein anderes,Kurden. Ewiger Nemesis der Turkvoelker. Als ich bei eben jenem naemlich vom Teller aufblickte,sah ich das  Gesicht des Vaters merkwuerdig verfinstert. Wut und Trauer wechselten sich im Sekundentakt ab und ich brauchte erst einen Augenblick um den Schuldigen im Bildschirm zu finden. Ein wortloser Beitrag,nur Musik und der Anblick auf ,nach einem Anschlag,verstuemmelte Menschen, deren Namen eingeblendet werden,nur unterbrochen von “neden”,dem tuerkischen Wort fuer “warum?”. Es war zugegeben faszinierend mitanzusehen,welche Wirkung es auf diese Menschen hatte,nur ist die Aehnlichkeit mit den Hassminuten in George Orwells Dystropie “1984″  doch furchteinfloesend groß gewesen.

Stefan Raab, ProSieben und die ARD haben sich auf eine Zusammenarbeit beim Vorentscheid zum Eurovision Song Contest geeinigt. Es wird eine achtteiliges Casting geben, das abwechselnd bei ProSieben und im Ersten zu sehen sein wird.

Ja ond? Isch des so dramatisch? Es got bei dem Wettbewerb doch dorum, dass die Europäer, also mir, ons gegenseitig aus besser kenne lerned. Wer von ons wois scho, was die in Aserbaidschan oder ind Norwegen für a Mukke höret. Dank dem Eurovisionscontest wisset mirs jetzt wieder. Ond bei aller Lieb, der Norwerger mit seiner Geige war fetzig!

Eurovision…I enjoyed it!

I am probably one of the few who enjoys watching those kind of things but then Iv always said im crazy!

Norway won – congrats! and they certainly deserved it! I can see people growing sick of the song but for now I like it! Plus they made history! 300 and something votes! well done! Plus they stopped the voting being all political! YAY!!!! It went back to being about a song contest! yahoo!

UK came in at 5th (if i remember correctly… in the top 5 any which way!). Which is fantastic news seeing as we came last last time! So well done Jade and Sir Andrew! I enjoyed the song too! It sounds like a good one to sing…but I may leave it a bit till all the eurovision hype has blown over till I consider doing it!

Sir ALW is an extremely talented man but I do find him annoying. I dont like him as a person to be honest…I think hes rather big headed and stuck up! But maybe thats just me! However his musicals are amazing! You cant doubt that!

Saturday was a dragging day…mainly because I procrastinated going and shopping for my NRA jacket…dont get me wrong I enjoy shopping but I really havent quite caught the ‘end of school lets get all emotion and make out that its the end of the world’ bug yet. I guess a lot of people have realised that their friends are off to other places so are having the best time they can with them while they’re all together still. If it were me I’d be doing that too! Sure I would! But pretty much all my friends and I are staying on at my schools sixthform so it doesnt really feel as though we’re leaving…just going up into the next year! That may change as the week wears on but for now I’m really not fussed about NRA (National Record of Achievement ceremony for those who dont know). I think if I had a choice I wouldnt go. I’d much rather slip away quietly than make a big do about it all. I can do that in Year 13!

Nothing much happened yesterday really had a service all about Christian Aid in church then it was visiting the grandparents. Which is where I found out how I would be spending my 17th birthday weekend (I know its not until halloween but this is already organised!). I’m going to be spending the weekend at a place called Lindors with my grandparents and the people from their church. Which is fab! The church is wonderful, everyone is lots of fun and the last couple of times I’ve been I’ve had a fantastic time! But still it’s my birthday and I was planning to spend it with friends…oh well! Though if McFLY are at the NEC that weekend for their tour then my parents are going to have to take me and a few friends to see them somewhere else! I am NOT missing the next tour!!!

OK so thats my blogging done for today! Im gonna go and ‘revise’ for my maths exam later today!

Am I the only person wondering why Norway won this year’s Eurovision? While I ranked them way down in 19th place, most of Europe must have been watching a different song! After some very scientific calculations, here are the countries which I think should have been in the top five.

1. Estonia
2. Portugal
3. Malta
3. Maldova
5. Iceland
5. Bosnia and Herzegovina

With my taste in music, I’m willing to accept that Estonia may not have been the best, although Andrew Lloyd Webber seemed to like them as well. But Norway? I don’t get it.

I must admit to watching Eurovision most years, but this year we did a wee bit of time shifting just in case any fast forwarding was required. As it turns out, surprisingly little fast forwarding occurred so we were far enough behind to want to avoid any spoilers from twitter; just when I’ve given up watching anything much ‘live’ on TV, something comes along that makes watching at the same time as everyone else more interesting again.

As for the show itself, Rusia did a great job hosting: hogging 30% of the worlds LED screens, ‘this is the International Space Station calling’ (shame it wasn’t to give their votes!), flying pools, and a voting progress bar. FTW.

Having said that, despite much talk of a return to it being a song contest, I’m not sure the results support that. Still, what fun would that be anyway?!

Well I hate to admit it but I quite enjoyed the Eurovision song contest last night. Some of the songs were really quite good. I wasn’t surprised that Norways ‘Harry Potter’ lookalike won, it was a catchy song….so much so that I’m still singing it! The contest was made all the better by the online chat I was having on www.culch.ie some of the comments were hilarious.
I also like Graham Nortons comments and didn’t miss Terry Wogan at all.

I thought the Denmark entry was really funny. I know that Ronan Keating wrote the song but did yer man have to sing just like him?? Talk about karaoke.

Anyway enough of Eurovision chat. Today we went to mums to fit her cooker. It was the cooker we bought in February before we knew we were moving and there is a built in cooker in this house (even though the hob is about half a mile away from the oven and I need a skateboard to get from one to the other….but that’s another story). Mum was on about getting a cooker so she decided to have our one.
It all went fairly straightforward apart from Andy nearly putting his back out and getting hit in the nose by a knob off the cooker…..hee hee.

Thanks so much for your comments on my other posts I didn’t get around to answering them, so just to let you know the pet competition doesn’t close until next week, so no idea if the cats got anywhere….fingers crossed though.

Der Eurovision Song Contest, bei manchen noch bekannt unter der Bezeichnug Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson, lief dieses Jahr zum 54. Mal, und wie immer haben wir dabei zugesehen, wie verschiedene Länder ihre musiklalischen Glanzleistungen ins Rennen werfen, um danach dieses Spektakel zu gewinnen…

… und wie immer schnitt Deutschland sowas von verdammt mieß ab! Platz 20 von 25 hat unsere Geldgebernation Nummero 1 dabei bekommen. Zwar war dieses Ergebnis nicht so niederschmetternd wie letztes Jahr, als die No Angels ihr Glück versuchten (besch… Lied, besch… Choreographie, alles besch…). Diesesmal versuchte Deutschland sein Glück mit einer Stripperin, welche mit einer Reitgerte und dem sanften Streicheln des Oberörpers vom Sänger mit selbigem Zuchtinstrument zu punkten, doch leider hat es nicht so ganz geklappt, und die Stripperin und der Sänger (wie war doch gleich sein Name???) schnitten nicht sonderlich gut ab.

Gewonnen hat dieses Jahr Norwegen mit seinem Lied Fairytale von Alexander Rybak, einer Mischung aus Gesang und Geigenspiel. Mit persönlich hat das Lied erhlich gesagt nicht sonderlich gefallen. Es hatte melodisch gesehen zu wenig tiefgang (naja, der Geigenpart war noch ganz nett), und der Sänger stellte für mich eine Mischung zwischen Heintje und Harry Potter dar, weshalb ich irgendwie so den Verdacht habe, dass das Lied deshalb gewonnen hat, weil der gute Alexander der Traum aller Omas und Schwiegermütter darstellt. Naja sei’s rum…

Ich persönlich bin halt immer noch der Meinung, man sollte mal etwas extravagantes hinschicken, um eine Chance eingeräumt zu bekommen.

Generell aber war die Show ganz nett gemacht vom russischen Gastgeber. Originell fand ich diese Show mit den Wasserbecken, welche über dem Publikum schwebten und in welchen Artisten aus Argentinien ihre Darbietung boten. Hat ja auch eine Stange Geld gekostet, der ganze Spaß (ca. 40 Mio Euro).

Bin ja mal auf nächstes Jahr gespannt…

Samstagabend lief wie jedes Jahr der Eurovision Song Contest, dieses Jahr kam er aus Moskau. Die artistischen Einlagen vor Beginn der eigentlichen Show und während des Votings waren zwar nett, aber durch die Fernsehübertragung weniger beeindruckend, wie sie es für die Zuschauer in der Halle wohl gewesen ist. Russland hat sich richtig angestreng, einen Song Contest der Superlative zu veranstalten, dementsprechend hoch waren die Kosten auch gigantisch: 42 Millionen Euro. Ein weiteres Highlight sollte die Schalte ins All zur ISS sein. Überrschender Weise, waren die Kleider der Moderatorin dieses Jahr sogar erträglich.
Der deutsche Beitrag von Alex Christensen und Oliver Whoever, landete wie eigentlich immer auf einem der hinteren Plätzen und das obwohl Dita von Teese zur Unterstützung irgendwo ganz hinten auf der Bühne einen Pseudo-Striptease ablieferte.

Am Nachmittag vor dem Contest wurde dieser von der auseinander geprügelten Demonstration von Schwulen vor der Halle überschattet. Ganz abgesehen davon, dass einige der Demonstranten auch verhaftet wurden. Vladimir Kaminer versuchte beim deutschen Warmup am Abend aus Hamburg das Vorgehen der russischen Polizisten damit zu entschuldigen, dass Russland noch nicht ganz in Europa angekommen sei. Trotzdem wurden am Rand der offiziellen deutschen Party ein kleines Meer von Regenbogenfahnen unter lauten, nicht von der ARD übertragenen, Rufen geschwenkt.

Gewonnen hat, wie soll es anders sein, der im Vorhinein als absolute Favorit gehandelte Beitrag aus Norwegen. Ein kleiner 23jähriger junger Mann, Harry Potter nicht unähnlich, der von der Liebe als Märchen sang, dabei selbst Geige spielte und von zwei in Feenkleidern gewandeten blonden Frauen umtanzt wurde.

Mein persönliches Highlight war der israelische Beitrag. Die Sängerinnen Noa und Mira Awad, die eine Israeli, die andere Palästinenserin, brachten als einzige eine echte Botschaft zum ansonsten sehr seichten Song Contest aus ihrer Heimat mit. Leider landete ihr Song There must be another way nur auf Platz 16. Auch der Beitrag aus Portugal brachte frischen Wind in den Einheitsbrei aus Dancepop und herzerweichenden Balladen.

Wow, what can I say? I’m a bit in shock, that we, the UK actually came fifth! :O I guess changing the voting system really did make Eurovision more about the music than politics, finally! Or maybe Europe finally forgave us for going to War and since Blair and Bush are gone? lol I think we got used to be in the bottom ten for the last few years haha.

I love watching Eurovision, watch it every year. It used to be a tradition with me, my dad and my brothers to mark every act out of 5 and whichever country got the most votes from us, we’d vote for them at the end. Haven’t done that for the past few years, but I still enjoy watching the Eurovision song contest.

I think I like making fun of the really bad acts lol, but there’s always a few acts that I really like, and I saw one of the semi finals and the girl from Cyprus didn’t get through, I liked her song “Firefly” but it wasn’t very Eurovisiony.

The acts I most liked were Portugal, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Malta, Estonia, Denmark, Norway and Romania. Most of those acts were girls, and some of the acts, people didn’t really like at all, like Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark and Estonia, but I liked them. Out of those, my favourites were Portugal, Malta and Norway.

The winner was Norway, with the most votes ever in Eurovision history! Most people guessed he’d be pretty high up, the song “Fairytale” was very catchy, I’ve had it in my head all day. The singer, Alex, was cute too, so that helped with votes, but I think he was quite cheesy with the smiles lol. They said after he won that it was his birthday that week, so wow, what a way to celebrate your birthday eh?

It was weird Terry Wogan not doing the commentating anymore, I wonder what he would have been like with the new, fairer voting system. Still, I love Graham Norton, he did a good job, but people will always miss Wogan I guess.

I think the fact that Andrew Lloyd Webber co-wrote the song, and played the piano helped with us getting more votes, and Jade was a  good singer. I didn’t particularly like her on “Your Country Needs You”, but out of the people on it I saw, she was the best, and was one of the best in the Eurovision, yay for fifth!

Eurovision is cheesy, fun, full of silly costumes, weird acts, but some very good ones spread throughout and I wonder how we’ll do next year. I’ll leave you with the winning song, a cheesy, lighthearted catchy song.

Soooo it was Eurovision last night and we came 5th with 173 points! Well done Jade and Lord Lloyd-Webber! There were some weird entries as usual wasn’t there, Finland… was that guy trying to be Eminem or something?!? The French and Russian entries both freaked me out and there was a few that sounded similar lol

All in all twas a good show! I think Graham Norton did a good job on the commentary but I am a fan of Graham. Ah well.

Congrats to them once again and congrats to Norway I guess.
