Finally the official Sonia Rykiel Pour H&M campaign images have been released, so here’s the round-up of all images including a few new ones. Like I’ve said before, I am STOKED for this collection. It’s uber affordable and completely sexy. I adore all the black velvet and lace – and the kimono-style robes. Collection hits 1500 H&M stores worldwide on Saturday December 5th. I’ll be there!

PHILADELPHIA PA November 23, 2009 — Navigating through a windy, stormy rush hour in any city is probably at the top of most of our pet peeve lists, but not for Philadelphia entrepreneur and broken umbrella connoisseur, Taryn Zychal who says that those are the days that have provided her with the inventory she needed to turn trash into treasure with her successful upcycled umbrella fashion accessory company, Recycling Zychal.

Recycling Zychal officially launched in April of this year, but Zychal says that she’s been ‘rescuing’ broken umbrellas for several years before she knew exactly what to do with them. What started off as a bit of an obsession has now blossomed into something we don’t often hear about these days, a successful and sustainable business.

Recycling Zychal came up on my radar about 3 months ago when she was named one of the Top 25 Recycling Twitterers. I started following her and the exceptionally interesting stories of dumpster diving, product development, fashion shows, television shows and photo shoots she would share with the world. Here at EFPD, we were wow’ed by her activism and involvement in promoting stylish and functional upcycling, (something that she refers to as “Sexy Upcycling”) which is the complete opposite of the over-branded, impractical upcycling that most of us are turned off by.

I had the chance to sit down with the broken umbrella bombshell this past Friday at Recess Lounge where she been invited as a VIP guest among many of Philadelphia’s fashion elite to the Sonia Rykiel Fashion Show presented by Philadelphia’s new ‘go-to’ marketing agency, The Nouveau Image. We were among many familiar faces that included Steven Ward, host of VH1’s Tough Love and Philadelphia’s own Arthur Kade, which barely seemed to faze Zychal who mentioned to me early on that if it had been raining that night, she probably would have been able to score a broken Burberry umbrella.

“I am always thinking about my company, it’s my baby, it’s my life, it’s my full timer, and it’s working”
said the 25 year old as she sipped a special Sonia Rykiel cocktail designed especially for the event,
“do you really think I’d be here right now if I didn’t work hard to meet the right people?”

Winter HOOD promotion

The transition from a drinking PBR from a straw in bar a dive to sipping a swanky cocktail among celebrities at a fashion show has been quick for Zychal and is just one indication that Recycling Zychal is starting to branch off into bigger and better things. With the recent success of her Winter HOODs, which are modern day babushkas made from salvaged umbrella fabric and the highly anticipated launch of her newly expanded upcycled umbrella line, Recycling Zychal has won over the media with her dedication to animals, the environment and her couture sense of design. Chloe Jo Berman, founder of Girly Girl Army, celebrity green consultant and cruelty free advocate recently gave recommendation and praise to the company in an article entitled,“The Girl Who Loves Broken Umbrellas”, while one of Philadelphia’s most talked about internet sensations, Karina Bradley, sent out a shout out to Recycling Zychal to all of her fans on her YouTube channel.

Zychal said that she has a lot going on in the next few months including collaboration with Alexander Ciambriello for her Spring ’10 Collection, raising money to expand and collect broken umbrellas around the country through Indiegogo.com, a photo caption contest and HOOD giveaway through Better Off Soaked that is running right now, and of course preparing for the upcoming holiday season where she is offering buy one get one free HOODs and her infamous Upcycled Umbrella Dog Coat and matching HOOD special for $55 on her etsy shop from 12:01 am Black Friday until 11:59 pm Cyber Monday.

As we took our seats for the fashion show, I asked her what the next step for Recycling Zychal was and with a little hesitation and a laugh she said, “This right now was the end goal about 7 months ago; being here, in my element, among a good crowd, being interviewed by someone, this is everything I’ve ever wanted, the next step is to sustain it. It’s not about the fame or fortune, it’s about people rethinking the way they see a broken umbrella and once they know about my business and how I can recycle them into something beautiful, there’s really nothing stopping them from sending it my way”.

I’ve already grown tired of dressing appropriately for the cold weather, although I’ve still been trotting round in a tweed blazer rather than a full-on winter coat, so taking a peak at Fam Irvoll’s SS10 collection has lifted my fashion spirits (which took a dent after seeing Heidi Montag wearing those sequinned Miu Miu socks early this morning).

Fam is a Norwegian designer who shows at Oslo Fashion Week and has just been taken on by Blow PR, so we’ll be seeing much more of her nutty knitwear over here.

After studying at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode, Fam came to Central St Martins for her BA (Hon) in Fashion Knitwear, graduating in 2008.

Fam’s colourful past collections have featured shrunked dolly dresses, sweaters with 3D ladybirds and ice lollies, ruffled prom dresses and a quirky mouse bustier top – all in eye-popping colours.  My personal diagnosis of Fam’s style would be part Sonia Rykiel crossed with Grayson Perry and My Little Pony – not a bad combo, I might add!

Celeb fans already include Mika and Lady Gaga, who apparently called up Fam and ordered a 3D cherry sweater and a cake headpiece.

But quickly on to Fam’s SS10 collection, I Love Gays, which is dominantly nautical with Hawaiian and 50s rockabilly influences.  It’s very sailor girl meets Dorothy with a bit of Dolly Parton thrown in for good measure.

For summer, Fam has traded in her magenta and purples for more primary colours like banana yellow, pillarbox red and cobalt blue.

The collection features embellished denim, flirty sailor dresses, tutti frutti prints, cherry print skirts, playtime tomboy shorts and a striped jumpsuit with a proud-looking 3D flamingo standing guard.

I absolutely adore the sparkling sailboat headpieces and there are plenty of other accessories to keep your wardrobe entertained, like blue and red bow bobby socks, ruby slippers and berry and floral headbands in the style of Brazilian samba queen Carmen Miranda.  It would really make my day if there was a Fred Butler or Tatty Devine collaboration on the cards – I reckon they could make some mad pieces together.

Fam runs her own club night, Neverland, in Oslo with her equally creative friends and like the name suggests, she gets inspiration from fairytales and east London/Oslo club kids. You can follow Fam’s crazy adventures and adorable outfits on her blog.

En av mina absoluta favoriter dyker upp på HM i december. Det är härligt kaxiga Sonia Rykiel som under 40 år skämt bort oss med  stickat i grälla ränder i bästa Paris-anda. Hon har designat en kollektion underkläder för kvinnor som släpps 5 december i utvalda butiker. Och under våren 2010 kommer en stickad kollektion. Jag köar redan nu!

Am 5. Dezember ist es soweit: Die französische “Königin des Strick” ist die nächste Gast-Designerin für H&M. In der Weihnachtssaison 2009 werden exklusive Sonia Rykiel Dessous in den Stores zu haben sein. Hierzu gehören Taillen-Slips, Bodies und Kimonos im Stil der 50er Jahre. Entworfen von Kreativ-Chefin und Tochter Nathalie Rykiel. Und natürlich wieder alles im bezahlbaren H&M-Stil.

After the exhibition at the Petit Palais, the Museum of Fine Arts in Paris, save the date of the Designer Frimousses dolls auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne, Paris’s prestigious auction house. Since 2003, fashion designers and artists have worked to create something beautiful to help children of Darfur, crafting dolls that become veritable works of art. The whole amount raised during the auction will support the vaccination programme in one of the regions most devastated by the deadly conflict there. Today, more than 4.7 million people are affected, of which 2.2 million are children. Thanks to the Designer Frimousse operation, under the aegis of Laeticia Hallyday, ambassador for UNICEF France, UNICEF carries out the fight for children vaccination every year in the region of Darfur. Vaccination, a method that is both very effective and inexpensive, would prevent these deadly diseases from a very young age (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio) and would eradicate this scourge that affects thousands of children every day. The 2008 sale raised 219,130 Euros, used directly on the ground to finance emergency : in the Darfur region, 260,000 children and 195,000 pregnant women received vaccines. Don’t forget these dolls will be sold at auction on 19 November at Drouot Montaigne:

Depuis 2003, créateurs de mode et artistes créent des poupées de collection uniques, de véritables oeuvres d’art pour venir en aide aux enfants du Darfour. La totalité des fonds collectés lors de la vente aux enchères soutiendra les programmes de vaccination dans une des régions les plus dévastées par des conflits meurtriers. Soit aujourd’hui, 4,7 millions de personnes, dont 2,2 millions d’enfants affectées. L’édition Frimousses de Créateurs 2008 a permis d’envoyer sur le terrain 219 130 € pour financer les activités de vaccination en urgence. 260 000 enfants et 198 000 femmes enceintes recevront des vaccins. If you’ve been reading any fashion mags lately you probably noticed the latest images in the Sonia Rykiel for H&M Lingerie ad campaign. The Rykiel lingerie collection will be the first phase of a two-part collaboration between the designer and H&M. The lingerie collection will launch on December 5th in select H&M stores and Rykiel’s own boutique, while the designer’s knitwear collection will be launched on February 20th. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I can’t wait for this collab!! I LOVE Rykiel. She’s a genius. The best part: it looks like the collection will actually be affordable – unlike some of the H&M collabs (hello Jimmy Choo, $300 for a dress? Come on!) – with the nude teddy at $39.95 and the kimono at $59.95 (CDN). Can’t wait!

It may be Friday the 13th (scary) but we still have the ability to get lucky today. Sonia Rykiel the famed French fashion designer (who wrote the book A to Z of fashion and was voted one of the world’s 10 most elegant women in 1980) has joined forces with H&M fashion retailer to design a lingerie collection.

Due in stores December 5th, 2009, the Rykiel/H&M lingerie collection will be “a totally modern, new kind of lingerie look” with flower and heart appliqués on the bras and mesh panties; so much for lingerie that disappears under clothes! Though the style makes perfect sense, what with lingerie-as-outerwear being the hottest spring trend. Maybe panty lines will become chic, too.

The collection will be launched in 1,500 H&M stores worldwide and at the same time, Sonia Rykiel will make this lingerie collection available in Sonia Rykiel’s major boutiques around the world – another first for H&M.

Today my Swedish Elle arrived in the mailbox, and it it there were two ads for the Sonia Rykiel Christmas collection for H&M.

Two of these ads were featured, but as I looked online I found a third one as well. I have to admit, that I had quite high hopes for this collaboration. I usually like quite a few things from Sonia Rykiel, not everything, but I find the collections very wearable and the knits are very cute. When I saw these ads, I was quite underwhelmed. Some things are very Rykiel – like the roses and the crystals – but I am not sure what to think of this. The pink underwear does not look very flattering in my opinion, atleast not the panties and the lower part of the body. They feel like some sort of a combination of really high-cut panties and a skirt (or something like that).

Maybe I need to see the items first before I make a judgement, but this preview did not impress. I am still curious over the rest of the collection though, there still might be some gems. Also, in February there will be some knits and accessories, which probably will be better. Atleast I have my hopes up.

With so many street style blogs out there it is hard to know which ones to follow, however if you are in the mood for a little different street style blog you should check out Planet Awesome Kid, a blog by Julia Samersova Adler documenting kids with cool style. 

Artofthetrench.com is a website created by Burburry to celebrate their iconic trenchcoat. They will be collaborating with different artists starting with Scott Shuman who has taken pictures of different people wearing their Burburry trenches. You may also submit a photo of yourself in your own trench and you might actually be featured on their webpage.

Despite the fact that the collaboration collection between Jimmy Choo and H&M havnt even hit the stores yet, pictures from the upcoming collaboration between Sonia Rykiel and H&M has already been leaked to the internet. The ads, who among others featuring Lara Stone, are photographed by Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø.

Louis Vuitton are always coming up with new ways to attract people to their iconic bags, next bag to be gracing the very recognizable LV logo is a first aid kit made to celebrate Red Cross´150th anniversary. The Bag will be auctioned off at a Louis Vuitton event and the proceeds of the sale will naturally go to Red Cross. 

Madonna may have lost her campaign with Louis Vuitton to Lara Stone, however instead she will be doing a campaign for Dolce&Gabbana womenswear and not menswear as first reported.

At 17 years old she has already fronted campaigns such as Hudson Jeans and Rimmel London, now Georgia May is following her mothers footsteps and fronting a campaign for Versace which will be photographed by renowned Italian photographer Mario Testino. 

Rent the Runway is a new concept/business idea (and a brilliant one might I add) that let you borrow expensive designer clothing that you cant normally afford. Talk about making high end designer merchandise accessible for the masses, its kinda like Netflix but with clothes.

That Nicole Ritchie has designed a boho chic collection most people know already but did you know she has a shoe collection coming as well? Also, if you happen to be knocked up and need some maternity clothed Richie style you should stop by A pea in the pod on Sutter street where her maternity line is sold. 

Panties that will magically make your cellulite’s go away? If we shall believe Scala Bio Promise your potential cellulite’s could be gone in less than 30 days, although you might not look too hot during those days though. 

Last but not least, Anna Wintour recommends reusing garments more than once. Thank you for that advice Anna.

Just having a quick look at sheer meshy garments and the way that they have been styled for Spring/Summer 2010.  Really love Meadham Kirchoff and Henry Hollands take on the fabric – especially the way that it has been layered, pintucked or blocked out to create a look which is equally soft and tough.  Amazing.
