30 Eylül 2008..Sony Center dan bir kare…teknolojinin dile geldiği yer..

In September, I went to Berlin. My aunt works there at a private university that had its inauguration and my sister lives there with her family. I’ve been to Berlin once before and took the time to see all the big sights then, this time around was mostly family, but I managed to cram in a museum or two.

[Unfortunately I hardly took any pictures on this trip, so this post might seem a little dry.]

I arrived Thursday morning, an hour after my parents (we booked flights seperately) who waited for me at the airport. Together we made our way into the city and to their hotel (I stayed with my sister).

Their hotel (Hotel Friedenau) was the quaintest little thing, it was really cool. The rooms were filled with Biedermeier furniture and they regularly have literary readings there.

Anyways, from there we went to meet my grandmother who travelled with her friend and had arrived a couple of days earlier. We went to the Hotel Adlon since my great-grandfather had died there during WW II. Unfortunately, that also meant paying the prices of the Hotel. (6 fucking Euros for a glass of water!) I’m glad my parents paid for me…

Well, after, my grandma and her friends did their own thing and I took my parents to the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. This was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen last time and I was no less impressed this time. And this time I had the time to see the museum below the memorial.

It’s an amazingly well made museum: First you get the general timeline of WWII and the prosecution of the Jews. And then you get personal stories about single people and families. I cried more than once.

After that, I went to see my sister and my parents went to their hotel. I had a rather quite evening, catching up with my sister and her family and having an early night.

On Friday, there was the inauguration. It was a rather long affair, starting with coffee, then some talks (from my aunt to the minister of education), then lunch and general milling around.

My parents and I left pretty early and headed to Kreuzberg, more specifically Bergmann street and Riemann street. That’s two streets full of shops and cafés and more shops. And really cool stuff, too. There’s Another Country, an English Second Hand Book Shop, and Baggage, where you can buy all kinds of bags and tons more very cool shops.

We had planned to spend an hour or two there and then head to a museum but in the end, we spent for ever there and didn’t have time for anything else before meeting my aunt in the evening.

On Saturday, I met my parents in the morning and we went to the DDR Museum (Museum of East Germany). It’s an interactive museum (you can open drawers and touch stuff etc etc) and it’s fun to be there, but for me it felt too much in the nostalgic vein. Other people I talked to didn’t have that impression and maybe I’m just overreacting but there’s definitely a tendency in Germany right now to think nostalgicly about its socialist past. And while I don’t think that everything was bad in the DDR, I don’t think that nostalgia helps, either.

Afterwards, we went on a boat tour on the Spree.

As you can see in the picture, the weather was perfect and we really enjoyed it.

When we came back, we quickly headed into the Radisson Hotel to see the AquaDom thingy, which is basically a giant aquarium with an elevator in the middle (you can also pay the entrance fee and ride the elevator, but we decided that looking was enough, especially since my parents had already done it and the queue looked to be a couple of hours long.

From there, we went back to my sister’s and since my parents had barely seen her and her family and would leave the next morning, we spent the rest of the day there.

My parents left Sunday morning, but I stayed till Monday, so I had Sunday to spend completely with my sister and her family. And to sleep in.

So after a late breakfast, my sister and I headed to the Sony Center. I love the Sony Center (generally speaking has Berlin the greatest modern buildings I know).

Then we went to the Film and TV Museum (which is in Sony Center). The Film Museum part is very cool – it focusses especially on the very early movies and then Marlene Dietrich, but there’s tons of other stuff. The only thing they don’t do too well is WW II propaganda movies. They mention Leni Riefenstahl and then they basically go on to talk about other things.

The TV Museum part is a little boring and if you’re not from Germany even more so, I’m afraid.

Anyway, then it was time to meet the rest of the family again and we spent another evening just talking about absolutely anything and everything.

And Monday so early in the morning that it was still night I had to leave again, unfortunately. And that was Berlin.

So Berlin.

And then, after Dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant called Monsieur Wong and ice cream at Häagen Dasz we went home.

Auf’m Weg zur Arbeit habe ich mich gelangweilt und mal einfach so dieses Bild geschossen. Bei der Arbeit habe ich es dem Büronachbarn gezeigt und von ihm habe ich den Titel dieses Beitrags gehört.

A. leaves for Barcelona tomorrow for a week so we had a date last night, going to see District 9 which had finally arrived undubbed at the Sony Center. I was initially interested months ago and started to watch it online but the quality was awful and within 10 minutes I had to turn it off because it promised to be too good to waste viewing like that. And it was excellent. I think the movies I am really impressed by these days are those without a comfortable genre. Believable aliens? Check. Nigerian gangsters? Check. Social/political commentary? Check. Giant mothership hanging ominously over Johannesburg? Check. Funny, horrifying, heartbreaking, gross? Check and check. If you have not seen it, do. The Sony Center at night just heightened my sci-fi enthusiasm with its crazy Japanese umbrella awning changing colors and the strange movie screen projecting the water pool in the middle of the atrium, all very Bladerunner. We decided to prolong our evening in the tony district around the Sony Center and went to the Hyatt hotel lobby restaurant/bar where we had read they had good burgers. Seated next to a surreal fireplace in the warm non-German luxury environs of the Hyatt, with a 12-euro burger and a manhattan in front of me, I could not have been happier. Then. Then. About 15 dudes come into the lounge area next to our table. So obviously LA, the younger ones looking exactly like the guys from Entourage, the older ones in weird expensive jeans with lots of hair gel. I was trying to make some jokes/comments but they were way too close for that. Then I noticed the guy right next to me, perched up on the fireplace ledge, with his jeans, cowboy boots, and soft-spoken voice. Wait for it. Kevin. Costner. A. was afraid he was going to catch on fire. Needless to say, we stayed for another drink. Best part…he is in Berlin touring with his band.

Sieht doch echt so aus als würde die Figur gleich eine Wurst abseilen.

Da fällt mir doch gleich mal ein Jacek anzurufen und mich zu erkundigen was es wohl zu essen gibt.

So, jetzt kommen mal ein paar Berlineindrücke in Fotoform…  Die  Bilder sind alle entstanden wir Freitag mit Evo unterwegs waren!!

Ich finde übrigens, dass wir Wowie das rote Rathaus unterm Hintern wegreissen und in Bremen wieder aufbauen sollten… wär doch schick, wenn Werder da die nächste Meisterschaft auf dem Balkon feiern könnte

Aber gut zu wissen, dass man in Berlin auch das Zentrum der Welt kennt…  Wiesmoor und Großefehn *lach*

Also wir treffen uns diesmal zunächst alle gemeinsam am S-Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz. Dort können nochmal alle Unklarheiten beseitigt werden. In kleinen Gruppen gehen wir nun nacheinander Richtung Sony Center, verteilen uns dort, Einige bei den Eingängen, Einige im Center direkt. „Das schreiende Mädchen“ setzt sich zentral im Sony Center hin. Auf ein Signal (Pfiff) werden alle zu Boden sinken. Am Boden liegend könnt ihr euch meinetwegen was ins Gesicht  schmieren, auf Blutkapseln beißen, euer T-Shirt zerreißen oder ähnliches . Die Musik geht an (wird ne schaurige Zombiemusik oder so sein) und alle erwachen als Zombies wieder. Taumelt zum Zentrum des Sony Centers immer in Richtung des Mädchens. Dieses wird anfangen zu kreischen, wird panisch und läuft ein bisschen hin und her. Nach und nach wird es eingekreist (etwa nach 2-3min je nach Liedlänge). Alle Zombies bilden eine Traube um das Mädchen und begraben es unter sich. Zum Ende des Liedes bewegen sich die Choreozombies von der Traube weg und finden sich zu ihrer Choreo zusammen. „Thriller“ von Michael Jackson setzt ein und sie ziehen ihre Choreo durch, während die andern Zombies weiter das Mädchen belästigen Mit Ende des Thrillerliedes sinken die Zombies alle zu Boden und das Mädchen rennt schreiend davon. Alle stehen ganz normal auf und gehen weg.

Am Freitag kamen Simon, Lisa, Nadine und Markus Besuch. Zu sechst wurde es in der 2-Zimmer-Wohnung ziemlich eng. Der prophezeite Stau im Bad blieb allerdings aus.

Nadine und Marksu gingen auf meine Empfehlung am Freitagabend zur Blue Man Group und waren mindestens genauso begeistert wie ich. Samstag stand eine der üblichen TouriTouren auf dem Programm: Madame Tussaud, KaDeWe, Sony-Center und zum Abschluss Kreuzberg. Amy war derweil mit Simon und Lisa rund ums Rote Rathaus unterwegs.

Nach einem ausgiebigen Abenessen beim Italiener, gingen wir zum Karaoke in den Knaack-Club nach Friedrichshain. Dazu später mehr in einem zweiten Artikel.

Sonntags schauten wir uns das Charlottenburger Schloss an. Von dort gings mit dem Schiff die Spree entlang bis zur Jannowitzbrücke.

Doch was soll ich lange schreiben. Hier gibts die Bilder vom Wochenende.

En Potsdamer Platz tiene lugar el evento cinematográfico más importante de todo el territorio alemán. El lugar exacto que durante tres décadas fue un solar dividido por el muro de Berlín, aloja durante una semana al año las nuevas joyas del celuloide germano.

La sede principal del Festival Internacional de Cine de Berlín (o Berlinale), antiguamente el Zoo Palast, es desde el año 2000 el Berlinale Palast, donde además se celebra la ceremonia de entrega del “Oso”. El edificio es durante el resto del año el “Teatro de Potsdamer Platz”.

Pero el entorno de la Potsdamer Platz, situada muy cerca de la Puerta de Brandenburgo y del Barrio de la Prensa, es en realidad un lugar muy popular y concurrido sobre todo por su atractivo porte arquitectónico. Los españoles Rafael Moneo y Santiago Calatrava son los responsables, junto a Peter Eisenmann, Renzo Piano o Arata Isozaki, del núcleo modernista que se erige en este punto de la ciudad.

Aunque casi todas las miradas son para el llamativo laberinto acristalado que supone la plaza del “Sony Center” (obra del germano-americano Helmut Jahn), un espacio ovalado de 4.000 metros cuadrados cubierto por una atrevida cúpula que, aunque de aspecto delicado, pesa 2.500 toneladas y es sostenida por un bastidor redondo. Unos radios que van desde el mismo hasta el centro de la cúpula sostienen 3.500 metros cuadrados de cristal y 6 toneladas de tejido y de noche esta carpa “mágica” se ilumina en una cadencia de colores que acompaña a la música tenue del interior y al sonido de sus fuentes.

En un rincón de la plaza se hallan, integradas en la obra de Jahn y metidas en una enorme vitrina, las ruinas del Hotel Esplanade, que se desplazaron 75 metros para mostrar al viandante restos imponentes de la sala de desayunos del hotel, donde el Kaiser Wilhelm II celebraba sus francachelas. Arañas, chimeneas y escalinatas con barandillas de delicada forja coronan esta joya que alterna, como la ciudad en su conjunto, modernidad y clasicismo.

En este edificio del Sony Center se encuentran además la Filmoteca Alemana y el Museum für Film und Fernsehen, dedicados a la historia del cine alemán y que, entre otras, incluye como punto fuerte la colección privada de Marlene Dietrich.

Vor einiger Zeit erzählte Marina, dass kurz nach ihrer Ankunft in Deutschland in Köln am Dom eine Demonstration bzw. Kundgebung stattgefunden hatte, bei der die japanischen Austauschschüler leider nicht zusehen durften. Es wäre zu gefährlich, lautete die Begründung. Nun lässt sich nicht mehr nachvollziehen, ob es das tatsächlich war oder worum es überhaupt ging. Was blieb, ist die Neugier auf ein solche  Veranstaltung.

Demonstrationen und Kundgebungen scheinen für Marina eine eher ungewöhnliche Art der Meinungsäußerung zu sein. Ob es so etwas in ihrer Heimatstadt gibt und sie es nur bisher nicht bemerkt hat oder ob es in Japan allgemein dafür keine Tradition gibt, kann ich nicht sagen.  Gewerkschaften gibt es in Japan schon.  Vielleicht greifen sie zu anderen Mitteln?

Egal. Am Freitag, also am 1. Mai, bot sich bei uns in Berlin die  günstige Gelegenheit, eine Kundgebung mal aus der Nähe zu betrachten. Und bevor hier jemandem der Atem stockt: Nein, wir sind nicht mit ihr bei den berüchtigten Krawallen in Kreuzberg gewesen

Gemeinsam fuhren wir zum Brandenburger Tor, wo die harmlose offizielle Kundgebung des DGB statt fand. Gleichzeitig gab es auf der dort beginnenden Straße des 17.Juni eine Fressmeile Familienfest.  Die verschiedenen Gewerkschaften und deren Gruppen größerer Berliner Firmen wie Verkehrs- und Wasserbetriebe oder Stadtreinigung hatten Informations- und/oder Versorgungsstände aufgebaut. Einige der Demonstranten versammelten sich zwar vor der Bühne, hörten die Rede des Berlin-Brandenburger DGB-Vorsitzenden Dieter Scholz, hielten Plakate in die Höhe und klatschten artig gelegentlich.   Erstaunlich war in meinen Augen aber die angesichts der gegenwärtigen Wirtschaftssituation doch verhältnismäßig geringe Beteiligung. Und so klang der Ruf  “Hoch die internationale Solidarität!” dann auch ein wenig dünn. Die vom DGB genannte Zahl von 20.000 Teilnehmern muss sehr, sehr  optimistisch zu Stande gekommen sein und hat die mit Bratwurst oder Eis durch die lichten Reihen laufenden Touristen vermutlich mitgezählt

Marina fand die Veranstaltung interessant und vielleicht ein bisschen langweilig. Auf der Bühne sah es noch recht bunt aus, in der Menge fehlten mir vor allem interessante oder kreative Plakate. Nur ein improvisierter Ziegenstall stach hervor, bewacht von einer Tierschützerin

Der Abstecher zur Kundgebung war aber eigentlich nur der Auftakt des für diesen Tag geplanten Besichtigungsprogramms. Es lag im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes nahe, bei dem wunderbaren Sonnenwetter endlich einmal den Reichstag bzw. die Kuppel zu besuchen.

Auch die erwartet Besucherschlange schreckte uns nicht ab. Wobei die rund einstündige Wartezeit dann doch ziemlich lang öde war.  Marina fand es toll, eine so internationale Stadt zu erleben. Italiener vor, eine Koreanerin neben uns, französiche Wortfetzen, englische sowieso.

Nach einem flughafenähnlichen Sicherheitscheck fuhren wir mit dem Fahrstuhl auf das Dach des Reichtagsgebäudes.  Die gläserne Halbkugel des Herrn Foster ziert jetzt seit zehn Jahren das Gebäude und ist ein Besuchermagnet ohnegleichen.

Während des Rundwegs über zwei gegenläufige Rampen, auch Pilgerspirale genannt, hat man einen herrlichen Blick über Berlins Mitte.  Faszinierend auch die Spiegelkonstruktion, die das Licht in den darunter befindlichen Plenarsaal des Bundestages reflektiert.

Eines der Gebäude, die man von der Kuppel aus sehen kann, ist das Sony-Center am Potsdamer Platz.  Markant vor allem wegen der interessanten Dachkonstruktion, die aus der Ferne betrachtet, der Silouette des Fujisan ähnelt.  Und so war es nur folgerichtig, dass wir anschließend dorthin wollten.  Zu Marinas Jubel gönnten wir uns für den Weg einen besonderen Luxus: eine kurze Fahrt mit einem Velo-Taxi.

Der Innenhof des Sony-Centers ist mit dem Kino und den vielen Restaurants ein echter Anziehungspunkt. Genial aber ist der Blick von unten auf die Zeltdachbahnen aus Stoff. Um das Dach nicht nur von unten, sondern auch von oben bestaunen zu können, fuhren wir mit dem schnellsten Fahrstuhl Europas auf die Aussichtsplattform des Kollhoff-Towers.

Leider ist momentan ein richtiger Rundumblick aufgrund baulicher Einschränkungen nicht möglich. Schade, dass die Webseite des Panoramapunktes nicht darauf hinweist. Und noch ein Ärgernis: Das Fotografieren mit einer Spiegelreflexkamera wird einem wahrlich nicht leicht gemacht.  Engstehende Gitterstäbe verhindern nicht nur das Herunterwerfen von größeren Gegenständen oder die letzte Tat von Lebensmüden, sondern leider eben auch diverse Kameraperspektiven. Glücklicherweise hatte ich noch eine kleine Digiknipse dabei, die man geradeso durch die Stäbe hindurchstecken konnte

Und so gibt es doch noch ein Foto mit dem 96m hohen, von einer japanischen Firma 1978 errichteten Internationalen Handelszentrum am linken Bildrand und dem Fernsehturm rechts.

Angesichts der fortgeschrittenen Zeit fuhren wir direkt aus der Innenstadt zu meiner Freundin Cata und ihrer Familie. Ein gemeinsamer Grillabend war der perfekte Abschluss eines schönen Berlin-Tages.

I kväll ska jag gå bio. Det finns bara en bio i Berlin som visar filmerna på orginalspråk och den ligger i Sony center på Potsdammer platz. Jag går alltid dit för jag gillar inte när de dubbar filmerna.

Om ni någon gång är i Berlin tycker jag att ni ska åka hit och då helst på kvällen. Det är en fantastisk byggnad, eller byggnader ska jag väl säga. Gården mellan husen är överbyggd med ett tak som på kvällen är upplyst och det skiftar i olika färger hela tiden. 

På vintern kan man åka skridskor här eller spela curling. På sommaren finns det en fontän istället. 

Det finns dessutom en massa barer, restauranger och en del butiker.

Ha en bra dag

Sono tornata, sono rientrata in casa da 22 minuti e sono già attaccata al computer e soprattutto al termosifone.

Sono diventata un pupazzo di neve ghiacciata, ragazzi un freddo porco a Berlino!!!

Sono rimasta stupefatta dalla città che ho visto e che non ho ricordato quasi in nessun particolare, non mi è mai capitato di vedere una città così trasformata e diversa nella vecchia e cara Europa.

Sono stati giorni, divertenti ed emozionanti anche se l’aguzzino che passa per mio legittimo consorte non mi ha lasciato un momento di relax.

Vieni che ti porto a rivedere come è diventata la Potsdammmerplatz, (il Sony Center è però un’esperienza da vivere), vieni che ti porto a rivedere cosa è rimasto del Checkpoint Charlie (non è rimasto praticamente niente), vieni che ti porto a rivedere quello che è rimasto del muro sui camminamenti (non c’è più l’atmosfera pesante e cupa dell’immediata caduta del muro), vieni che ti porto nella Bernardstrasse a vedere il cimitero senza tombe da un lato perchè le hanno buttate via nel 1961 per farci passare il muro (veramente impressionante e surreale), vieni che ti porto a vedere la casa della Dietrich (la sua grande passione e il mio ideale di voce, che se me la garantissero mi farei un intervento di chirurgia estetica alle corde vocali), vieni che ti porto a rivedere l’Alte Museum (il busto di Nefertiti vale ore di ammirazione), vieni che ti porto a rivedere il Glienickebruch mitico ponte delle spie (hanno cancellato anche la striscia bianca dello scambio), vieni che ti porto a rivedere…, vieni che ti porto a rivedere…, vieni che ti porto a rivedere…(ho macinato chilometri e chilometri sotto la pioggia, la neve, il ghiaccio ed il vento, ma lui era così felice, contento e sorridente che non ho avuto cuore di dirgli troppo spesso che non sentivo più i piedi, le mani e il naso, e poi mi sono davvero divertita come una scema).

Sono, poi, stata presa da una botta di masochismo e gli ho detto “portami a vedere la villa della conferenza di Wannsee”.

E lì, il giorno prima di partire, mi sono data da sola un pugno nello stomaco (ed ero già stata a Dachau, a Monaco, a Norimberga).

Nella villa di Wannsee è stata decisa e ratificata con 176 pagine di verbale la soluzione finale della questione ebraica, e lì, nel buio totale della ragione, mentre ascoltavo e leggevo di omuncoli rozzi, ignoranti, vigliacchi, senza umanità, senza grandezza, che consideravano altre persone “di seconda classe” mi è venuta in mente una canzone degli MCR (di cui posto il video e testo).

Mi sono anche chiesta perchè per visitare tutto ciò che riguarda il muro bisogna pagare, mentre per visitare e vedere tutto quello che riguarda il terzo Reich non si paga mai nulla; ho due risposte possibili.

1) interessa e fa cassetta tutto quello che riguarda i crimini del comunismo,    non interessa a nessuno e non fa cassetta tutto quello che riguarda i crimini del nazismo.

2) è assolutamente necessario fare rimanere nella memoria quello che i tedeschi e i nazisti hanno fatto e non bisogna dare scuse a nessuno per dimenticare.

Spero, sinceramente, la seconda.
