The television channels at that time also showed English shows and my elder sister had started watching the Star movies and shows like the Bold and the Beautiful, the Young and the Restless. I also vaguely remember watching shows called the Chunauti and Nukkad. I thoroughly enjoyed Banegi Apni Baat and a few other shows like the Dougie Howser, 90210, the Wonder Years and I would wait a whole week for the next episode.

I think ever since then with maybe an Indian show here or there, I have never really wanted to watch any of the Indian soaps that aired on television. On the contrary, I join the gang with thousands of those people who watch American sitcoms, can’t wait for the next Masterchef Australia series to start and constantly go on YouTube, Hulu to watch the new season of Gossip Girl and wished we could subcribe to Netflix here. I may have watched a few Indian reality shows since they have a short life span but none of the tv series until I watched Crime Patrol-Dastak on Sony TV.

One day I stumbled upon this show while surfing channels and now it’s been a few months that I record the whole series on my pvr and catch up on the episodes that played during the week. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this series is shot. Right from Anoop Soni who hosts the show, to all the actors and the dialogues..this show is awesome.

Living in India where crime happens every second, this show is a clear example of what kind of jaw-dropping and gruesome cases happen in small towns, villages, cities, our own neighborhood across the country and the numerous flaws in our systems be it administration, education, judicial, political, social and what not. The show also displays how the cops handle cases with competance and great fervour and its only after I watched this show that I started believing that there is no criminal case which can close as a dead case if our law-makers wanted to find out the truth.

All the new actors on the show, including the repeated faces I see acting as cops are exceptional actors. In fact they are some of the best actors I have seen on Indian television which we all know is otherwise known for its melodramatic scenes and aggrandized dialogue delivery. The casting is almost perfect. The director also ensures that the location, the attire, the accent are all situation specific. In fact I have also noticed that some of the women/men even if they are aspiring actors with the dream of making it big in Bollywood are quite skilled and pleasant looking. They could easily play good supporting roles in movies (if they got a chance) though I’m happy that they are contributing to the Indian television.

I do agree that some of the cases make me sick and I have questioned how it’s possible to not have stopped the crime from happening. Staying calm while it’s playing in front me becomes difficult. One such case was of a poor little baby girl whose parents throw her in a dumpster. Her life was so painful that I couldn’t sleep that night. Another case where I was almost sitting on the edge of my sofa was where a girl working in a pub gets picked by rowdies who are driving her away with cruel intentions and the Delhi cops are chasing them, they save her before the horrendous crime happens. There are so many episodes like the above that have remained in my heart. One even which I thought got me close to probably looking at the two criminals who snatched my bag in Bandra in broad day light in March, 2007. I met with an accident that day and had badly bruised myself coz I fell of an auto rickshaw. I saw a similar episode of two culprits riding across the Bombay city snatching gold jewelry and handbags. I was shocked to know that they were also raping women if they found them alone by approaching them with a clear modus operandi – “you don’t know me but your family has sent me. Your dad or brother is in the hospital so hurry and come with me!”

I think I’m a lot more aware about what all can go wrong in a simple daily life routine and can now raise a red flag much sooner when I see something awry. Crime Patrol-Dastak has made that happen. Congratulations to the entire team

Speaking of her character a source said, “She will play a loving caring grandmother who is the only good looking member in Madhav’s family. As seen in the promos, Soumya’s character Aaradhya is in love with a Radio Jockey Ehsaas played by Rohit. She loves him immensely but hasn’t seen him as of yet. Sources from the production house state that audition of that particular character was done on the basis of his voice. When quizzed about the kiss scenes between him and Sakshi, Ram said, “I was open to smooch in Bade Acche Lagte Hain.
