I was, perhaps, a little over-eager when I decided that Danzibar had to be hundreds of vnums large. Perhaps. But it is, and it’s taking a lot of work to come together. Still, it’s beautiful, and I can’t imagine it any other way. Illindir’s largest city is just that.

Next Tuesday (well, technically it will be Wednesday) at 2am, Tom and I are going to head out to Conway to spend Thanksgiving with Dani while Gino is off visiting relatives. It will be a chance to relax with friends…and get Fwi all pieced together. It feels like a break, though, because Fwi is so much smaller than Danzibar. After those two are placed neatly into the game, we’ll be building following the Crescent Road around the sea until the whole of the known world is finished.

Most of the time with Dani, though, will be spent eating a Thanksgiving dinner of Asian cuisine and indulging in copious amounts of anime. I cannot wait for the sweet and sour chicken.

In the spirit of the holiday, I give thanks for:

1) Friends, past and present. I am who I am today because of their advice, their understanding, their compassion, and their humor.

2) Illindir. It really is a terrific project, and if it brings as much joy to even one player as it has to me, I will consider it a success.

3) Getting published. It absolutely blew my mind that someone would want to publish something I wrote, even if the whole thing is not-for-profit, and I still have trouble believing they want to publish an article by me REGULARLY.

4) God/s. Believe or don’t, call it/them what you will, but I have never felt completely alone or abandoned, and somehow I always seem to pull through.

5) Tom. He’s shown me that no matter how badly I’ve been hurt, people are still worth taking a risk on. Because sometimes it pays off.

6) My sister. She reminds me of my past, and the good things that were in it. It’s so easy to forget sometimes.

7) Sonya, for showing me how I could be more than myself. She is such an inspiration.

I am, above all, thankful for my life. Mistakes and all. I’ve learned so much, have so much more left to learn, and am looking forward to what another year brings. Hopefully I’ll be a little wiser, a little less prone to anger, and more willing to make compromises than be right.

It’s the afternoon Tamiflu pudding snack.  As we’ve discovered, the Tamiflu capsule stuff mixes best in chocolate pudding.  Not yogurt.  Not applesauce.  Chocolate pudding.

This has been a hard week.  I don’t know how Sonya does all that she does each day.  She is awesome.  Please pray that she gets better soon and that no one else gets it.  If that happens, it will be a miracle.  Thanks.

Rocket Scientists-check. Computer Nerds-check. It’s LA, so I don’t want anyone too obvious, celebrities are way too easy, and rock music is too loud… Give me ideas!

Every Mortal Kombat Fatality

Like the title says, someone has put together every Mortal Kombat fatality in to a six minute video.

Not for those who can’t stomach pixelated unrealistic video game death and gore.

 

Today is my birthday and before it even started it was already the best one ever (aside from the one that put me here). Despite Tiesto being in town and Nuit Blanche, everyone still managed to make it and that means a lot. Thanks guys!

A special thanks goes to Sonya, Eric, Dan S., Dan P., Pegah, Jess, Andrew T., Jess and Tim for getting me a new tripod for my camera. I don’t know what to say, I absolutely love it, I no longer fear my camera’s weight. I am now absolutely worry free now that the head doesn’t bend and creak. Hahahahaha “I GOT HEAD!”. Thank you guys so much. Unfortunately I had to bring the head into Vistek today because one of the tilt locks was not the right size (packaging error) and get it replaced. Luckily the staff there managed to locate the piece I needed and I was on my way within 10 minutes.

Another special thanks goes out to Richard, Leo, Michelle, Aakash, Alex, Alice for the Sartorialist book. It’s a fashion bible and must have, I remember blogging about it a while back anticipating it’s release. I can now add this to my collection of “coffee table” books… on my shelf.

A super duper special thanks goes to the special woman who made it all happen, my darling Sonya. She created the event, masterminded the tripod scheme, got me a copy of Art & Sole, a Star Wars comic, replaced my lost MoMA umbrella, made the most terrific Star Wars cake, layered the cake with Star Wars figures, and spent the rest of the evening laughing at Ewoks with me. I don’t know if there are any words that can describe how happy I am, probably not. I love you.

Lots of fun making these tarts. 

I love eccentricities so I’ll forgive the editor for letting this tart in the cake book.  A chocolate tart is not a chocolate cake.  The recipe came from a 3star chef of Maxim’s Paris who is now based in Japan and speaks that language fluently.

This tart is made in three parts.  Crust, filling and topping.  Chef calls it Pate sucree, Filling and Glacage.  The quanity of filling needed to be doubled to match the quantity of tart shells and topping. I’m glad they weren’t restaurant quantities.

The recipe book has no photos so I don’t know how they are supposed to look.  The topping and the filling are both the same colour and the direction for the topping was simply ‘use the glacage’.  So I just decided to dribble it around a bit fearing that the rich filling and the rich topping would be overwhelming.

I bought 10 tartlet cases specially for this but it needed 20 for the amoung of pastry.  I made two batches and experimented with cooking one filled without a supporting case … it didn’t quite work.   No effect to the taste though.

Ladden with dark chocolate and alcohol soaked fruit Chocolate Cake Supreme lived up to it’s name.  A dense cake that held its shape well when cut. It definitely needed to be served with cream to balance out the taste.  

What is it with icing recipes, they never make the right quantity.  I’m going to have to make another cake to use it up!

I’m waiting to turn left after dropping off the kid, and watching the skaters is kinda cool

 I like to watch them teach each other new tricks and moves and it gives me flash backs to my childhood. The year we were in 3rd grade, Michelle arias gave each of us a blue had plastic skateboard for our birthdays, Jennifer Balmot, Kristi Powell, Kelsey Hertwig, Sammy Serriani, KAthy Little and me.

The best I could do was lay down on it and push with my hands. Co-ordination was never my strong point, ya know?

Jax has had scooter boards, but never a skate board.

So here is the story according to minlee (i have not given in everything because some things are better not told)….

“I was completely drunk and was doing shit things……and i met Aroti , Sonya’s sis.( Sonya is my batchmate and good friend from KV 2). it seems i hardly talked to her at all….i would have if i wasnt high…gotta ask sonya soon….anyways, as i was having dinner with Minlee and Ana, I started complimenting them as a pair (though they weren’t)…..i am so sorry guys!!! must have been quite embarrasing for Ana (though she was quite into Minlee..heh…as far as i remember)..started banging tables,passing comments on other people,making binita di worry and embarrased(sorry for that!!) and flirting awkardly….so it came to the point that i started comparing her to a cute girl in green and started calling “Miss.Cute girl in green” (Sorry but i dont know her name) some stupid names and obviously she heard me as she was just in the back table…and then….some things happened …..sparks flew across the room…and soon i stumbled down the stairs and somehow made it to the bus..i started maybe irritating Anu and Nimey on the bus then…..but i sure remember making them hold hands….(hey!! maybe i become St.Valentine when i am drunk…lolz… )

Anyways, we made it back to Pune and then i dropped off at asif’s place (a guitar guy in the meet) and holy shit!! we stayed at “Miss Cute in Green’s” Boyfren’s flat with both of them included….how shameless of me….but watever…played a bit of guitar …..had some fun….went off to dreamland…at 3 in the morning….me and minlee…..we left the apartment at about 9 in the morning..we saw miss cute as well…but i was too embarrased to ask her anything..all i can say is i am truly sorry Miss cute in green ……took an auto to spicer college (minlee’s hostel and college are there) and i went back to kamat…my hostel…slept like a log!!!!!

i’m 26. i live at home. i work near home. i hate my job and am sick of living at home.
i work as an accountant for a very large evil corporation. i dislike accounting.
at this very large evil corporation i work with the following cast of characters:

baldie – he’s balding (in case you didn’t catch that from his name). he has an asian fetish. he recently bought a house. nobody knows what he does, but he gets paid more than all of us. we’re not bitter. he’s balding (in case you forgot). some call him “greengo.” it can also be spelled “gringo.”
bob – he’s my manager. we call him “dope” b/c he’s stupid. no one respects him.
maww – stands for Middle Aged Woman at Work. she’s my friend. shes my middle-aged co-worker friend. she acts like she’s 30. the age gap b/n her and my mother is closer than her and i. but she’s cool…most of the time. she is a member of the board of directors (BOD)
salma – salma is my friend. she looks like salma hayek. or as she likes to say, salma looks like her. she’s hispanic and teaches me all the bad words in spanish. salma is of age 28. she’s fiesty. she is a member of the BOD.
jessica – jessica resembles jessica simpson. she recently changed her hair back to her natural brunette color. but when jessica was bleach blonde barbie, she really looked like jessica simpson. in fact, she was jessica simpson for halloween last year. she likes britney spears. but she is my friend [now]. she’s not dumb like jessica simpson. or else she would not be my friend [ever]. she is a member of the BOD.
sonya – sonya is the other middle-aged woman at work. she’s been in our group for like 5 years. you’re supposed to rotate out after 1.5 years. but this woman will not leave. everyone hates sonya. shes nuts. and smells bad and has stank breath. her eldest child is unfortunate looking.
maww’s bf Michael Scott - i can’t think of a name for him. i guess b/c we always call him “maww’s bf.” he’s annoying. he sits next to baldie. they both work in a different group but their cubicles are on the other side of ours. MB (i have just decided now to shorten his name to MB) tries too hard to be cool but he is not. no one respects him. he’s leading our volunteer project. edit: Eureka! tries too hard. no one respects him. he is Michael Scott.
slacker – slacker sits next to me. he is…a slacker. he’s making my life a living hell b/c he is stupid and i have to pick up his slack.
velveeta cheesey potato man - he recently left our group to go get his MBA in spain. what a loser. i kid. i am just insanely jealous. i hated him at first (when i thought he was trying too hard to schmooze with the other losers are our evil corporation) but he’s ok. he at least got his work done. he always used “creative accounting.”
lumbergh - i can’t think of a good name for our other manager (also bob’s manager), so i’m going to settle for lumbergh for now. he is nothing like bill lumbergh, but he’s a middle manager. so there ya go. but he’s cool..most of the time.
board of directors (BOD, the board) – maww, salma, jessica, and i are on the BOD. we have monthly meetings and talk shit discuss very important matters which concern the board. maww almost lost her membership with the board. i will share that story one day.

I am in the Burbank Public Library and two litle girls are sitting next to me whisper/singing to The PussyCat Dolls’s “Hush Hush”. To the untrained ear – it sounds like something that would certainly get them burned at the stake in Puritan America.

Apparently they are trying to memorize the lyrics. So  . . . bad citizen that I am, I told them to go Stana by atanza and memorize one paragraph at sa time before moving on to the next.

Yes, I hate noise and people who make noise in the library should be punched in the throat – but: These kids are cute and I appriciated that they were at least trying to be quiet.

Pamiętacie automaty? Te maszyny do gier, wielkością dorównujące niejednej lodówce, czasy świetności mają już za sobą. W nowym stuleciu ich zastosowanie najczęściej znajduje odbicie w hazardowych sitwach, tych wypolerowanych jak i takich gdzie dym tanich papierosów zastępuje azot. Niezależnie od miejsca programy automatów do gier ograniczają się do jednorękich bandziorów i tego typu cytrynowych historii. A przecież na wyciągnięcie ręki czasy, w których automaty do gier stanowiły idealną alternatywę dla drogich PC-tów czy wypróbowanych Pegasusów.

Z początkiem lat 90-tych rekordy popularności na rzeczonych maszynach tłukła przede wszystkim słynna bijatyka Street Fighter, ale już w 1992 roku na wszelkie automaty w kraju i na świecie pojawiła się gra utrzymana w podobnej konwencji, ale taka, która miała zawojować świat. Mowa o Mortal Kombat, który zresztą na PC-ty pojawił się rok później.

Intryga Czarnoksiężnika

W historii Mortal Kombat dużo namieszał potężny czarnoksiężnik Shang Tsung. Ten poplecznik wielkiego imperatora Shao Khana za jeden z najważniejszych celów postawił sobie opanowanie ziemi. Do jego realizacji potrzebne mu było dziesięć zwycięstw w legendarnym turnieju Mortal Kombat. Shang Tsung wspierany przez pół-człowieka pół-smoka z rasy Shokan niepokonanego od pięciuset lat Goro, wygrał już dziewięć turniejów, a kolejny miał być decydującym dla losów świata.

Do takiego obrotu sprawy nie mógł dopuścić opiekun Królestwa Ziemi, bóg błyskawic lord Rayden. Zatem zebrał on całkiem silną ekipę wojowników, którzy mieli walczyć na arenach jednego z najważniejszych w historii Mortal Kombat.

Ciekawe, że fabuła tej gry posłużyła za bazę do filmu kinowego z 1995 roku.

Bohaterowie pierwszego turnieju

W pierwszym Mortalu do czynienia mamy z dziesięcioma postaciami, z czego siedem z nich będzie do wyboru dla gracza.

Poza wspomnianym wcześniej bogiem przeładowań atmosferycznych, do wyboru będziemy mieli jeszcze Johnny’ego Cage’a, ponoć całkiem przyzwoitego aktora i (bisowane) ponoć zupełnie niezłego wojownika. Cage nieustannie posądzany o markowanie swoich ciosów i filmowe rozmaślenie postanowił położyć kres tym opiom i udowodnić, że potrafi całkiem nieźle się bić.

Inne przesłanki do stawienia się na turniejowej arenie ma Liu Kang. Ten chiński mnich z Shaolin, prowadzony przez swojego mentora lorda Raydena stanowi przykład najczystszych intencji i najlepszej jakości bohatera do walki ze złem. W filmie w jego poczynania wkrada się motyw zemsty, ale przyjmijmy, że w grze kieruje się on wyłącznie szlachetnymi przesłankami ku zbawieniu świata.

Do wyboru będziemy mieli także Sonyę Blade, cycatą agentka z sił specjalnych USA i OIA (Międzynarodowe Biuro Śledcze). W grze tylko fragmentarycznie jest przedstawione jak nienawidzi ona Kano. Oczywiście na deskach turnieju Mortal Kombat nie mogło zabraknąć i jego. Ten stalowo-czerwonooki bondziorno z organizacji Black Dragon tylko czeka na solidną ucztę jaką byłoby popuszczenie komuś krwi.

Obowiązkowe jest wypróbowanie w bojach dwóch wojowników zaprzyjaźnionych inaczej. Mowa o Scorpionie i o Sub Zero. Ci dwaj ninja należą do wrogich sobie klanów, a ich historia skrzyżowała się kilkukrotnie nie tylko na turnieju, ale i gdy Scorpion otrzymał zlecenie zlikwidowania Sub Zero.

Wśród bohaterów, którymi nie będziemy mogli pokierować, ale za to którzy będą mogli nam nakopać do tyłka, są oczywiście Shang Tsung, Goro oraz jaszczur Reptile, przedstawiony w stroju zielonego ninja.

Klimat do mordobicia

Jak to na bijatyki przystało wylewa się tutaj morze krwi i z racji daty premiery pierwszy Mortal Kombat stanowił swego czasu jedną z najbardziej krwawych gier. Nie chodzi nawet o  to, że przy każdym ciosie z naszego przeciwnika efektownie odpada mięso, ale spore wrażenie robią tutaj tzw. ciosy kończące, znane szerzej jako fatality, w które wyposażony jest każdy z naszych bohaterów.

Poza unikatowymi dla każdej postaci fatalites trzeba też wspomnieć o ich, również w większości przypadków unikatowych ciosach i kombosach,  które gdy umiejętnie wyciśniemy określony ciąg klawiszy wyglądają naprawdę efektownie (m.in. słynne już “baju-paba-de” Raydena czy harpun z ręki Scorpiona).

W tej rzeźni aby wypróbować nasze umiejętności przyjdzie nam stoczyć wiele pojedynków. Poprowadzą one do ostatecznych przeciwników – Goro i  Shang Tsunga. Gra oferuje do dyspozycji łącznie dziesięć aren, na których będziemy toczyć nasze boje. Mnie osobiście zawsze zachwycała pełna kości i mroku nora Goro.

Nasze walki będziemy rozgrywać w dwóch trybach – jednoosobowym i dwuosobowym. W pierwszym poza pojedynkami z przeciwnikiem prowadzonym przez komputer pojawiają się również zadania specjalne, w których dane nam będzie rozwalenie rzędu desek czy stali. W drugim trybie mamy możliwość rywalizacji z kolegą przy jednym komputerze.

Mortal Kombat szesnaście lat później

Dość powiedzieć, że w dniu premiery oprawa graficzna pierwszego Mortala uznawana była za rewelacyjną. Grafika była szczegółowa, a animacje płynne i sprawne.

Wyłącznie na plus wypowiadano się także o świetnych efektach dźwiękowych (oczywiście w midi), wyjątkowo realistycznie oddających klimat walki. Kryją się za tym odgłosy wydawane przez konkretnych bohaterów dostosowane do aktualnych wydarzeń na arenie. Tak więc oto kiedy sprezentujemy cios w szlachetne miejsce np. This requires that special ingredient to be purchased that isn’t normally in the house or on the supermarket shelves…stout.  The stout together with the 55g of cocoa gives makes this one of the darkest chocolate cakes of the 50.  It definitely requires cream or a dusting of icing sugar to give some eye appeal.

Francis, Nic, Sheryle, Stephen, Emma, Hannah, David, Alethea, Sarah all tried the Chocolate Rum Cake.  I got 10/10 rating from my grateful and not at all critical neighbours. 

This cake and a lot of other treats was shared with friends playing board games ‘Scene It’ and ‘Balderdash’.  Seeing Mike Myers doing his Dr Evil ‘Zip It’ routine was a highlight.  And the giggles of certain Balderdash players gave themselves away, thank you very much! 

Now if you’re interested to learn about the cake.  The two layers didn’t cook evenly or rather they didn’t cool evenly.  The top layer totally deflated in the center.  I stupidly halved the quantity of milk.  I was temporarily distracted by the double yokes in both eggs!  Oh, and I did overlapped the construction phase with that special end of school hungry teenage coming home time that entitles the teenage to tunnel vision in the kitchen.  Measuring all the ingredients before beginning will be my risk mitigation strategy.

I made a little effort with the icing. What do you think?

Wow, there are some dangers here. It’s easy to find me on-line (because , I write blog posts from my bathtub and morning walk to get coffee and then twitter pictures of me at the dentist and , maybe?!)

Last night I was reminded that what happens between me and the Blackberry also happens between me and the rest of the world. It so happened that one of the members of the “world” did not like what I had to say.

Well, ya know what? Suck it up.  – there, that was charitable of me, yes?

Last week I was child-free (she was in Loleta building and painting houses for the poor) and decided to expand on the personal growth arena and meet more people. Okay, I get that I talk to strangers and when I say “meet more people” – how is that different from my every day adventures?

It is different because I went out to find people I would WANT to know and desire to hang out with , and engage in FUN with. For as much as I talk and play with people, by the time I get home- I am wiped out and tend to crawl into the barka lounger and fall asleep playing Wii-City Folk.

I wrote a Craigslist.com ad, and amazingly it was not flagged. I was clear that I was looking for men to pal around with (seriously, I have soo many girlfriends that I could explode – men are lower maintenance and I felt like targeting them) however, I am a letch and terribly, horribly loneley and ignored by the man who likes to tell me he is my boyfriend ( I don’t agree that he is) .  Of course I did include my standard male criterea of Taller, Smarter and Nicer than I am – and the picture was a heinous snap of me after one of my famed strolls to the 7/11. I figured that if anyone answered that – well- they had been well warned that I was short, fat and cranky . . .and I kinda resemble a troll doll.

This was soo much fun. My inner attention whore threw herself a party. In consideration of my existing guy friends who complain about NOT hearing back from their missive to strangers on the net – I did my best to answer each and every email personally and in a friendly manner. Overall I had over 300 responses and narrowed them down to a handful. Some were good, some were ugly (me) and some were just odd.

I started out with fortification from an old boyfriend who bought me dinner so I could practice my “out in public” table manners. Have I told you how much I love this man? I do. Half way through the weekend I received a second bolster in the form of lunch with someone I knew in high school – I am puzzled though – exactly WHAT was I like in High School because everyone says I am just the same.Seriously – 20 years later there has been no personal growth? I am worried.

The actual Dating Derby was great. I love to meet people and find out what makes them tick, and eye candy ain’t a bad thing either! Men who are self aware and self confidant, who are articulate and interesting – well, they may be the best thing about the gender – gay, straight, single or married, I admire men hwo know who they are and are happy with themselves. They are a pleasure to be around.

In the course of my constant tug of war with social media I mentioned my date for Saturday afternoon. He wanted me to post his picture so everyone could “vote” on if I would see him again. I didn’t need a vote. I would have hung out with him again – but only HUNG OUT, and in limited amounts of time because I am a fixer and I kept wanting to tell him what to try/do/how to achieve the happiness he has not found. Now, you know I name people, and I don’t know if he really is an albino (I don’t think so) but he DID Make me look tanned by comparison – and I glow in the dark. So, instead of using his name, I referred to him as albino and said I was not looking for another project.

I foolishly admitted him entrance to my FaceBook page where he left me a message about how rude and awful I am.

Hello! You were warned in the ad… I am cranky AND I told you I was not sure we should go out and that it took everything I had to get me out the door, on the freeway, on the wrong freeway, home to get the navigator and back in the freeway to see you..

By the way, you are off my limited list of FB friends, I had explained tat I don’t let everyone be my FaceBook friend because it is just the people I really like, but you whined and I felt sorry for you. Let me tell you – this is why you have something to whine about.

1. When you have known a girl less than 20 minutes, don’t ask how long her previous relationships were

2. Dont invite yourself over to someone’s house for sex. It is rude. It assumes I am having intimate relations with people and that I am accepting applications, and more than that, that YOU have passed the interview process. Nasty.

3. When a woman says “no thank you” to your offer of sex, take it like a man. Don’t whine and don’t try to ague her reasons. The part you needed to listen to was “No”. Or actually, it is number 2.

4. Don’t tell women you insist on paying for their food so that you can assure yourself that they might agree to have sex with you if you pay. I let all kinds of people pay for me and I don’t plan on sleeping with any of them.

So that we are clear, I said “no” because :

• I am not that kind of girl
• nothing about your personality attracted me
• you talk with your mouth full
• you told me that the last time you had intercourse you were placed in an unfortunate 3 day psyche hold (so just trust me that you are not emotionally or physically prepared for special happy time with me)
• I was offended that you assumed I would sleep with you on that or at a future date. Let me tell you that accepting a man’s request to spend time with him is not the same as agreeing to fornicate with him. The only thing that makes it any better is the man who used to show up at my house with Starbucks and pizza and ask me to marry him. You are not that icky yet – but there is an ick factor. Work on that or  become a monk.

Will I stop posting my personal details on line – probably not. Dear world, this is my diary and If I don’t write it down I will forget it, and I am having a whole bunch of fun!

What’s this doing in a Chocolate cake book?  This is an orange cake with a swirl of chocolate through it.  The chocolate swirl rose to the surface during cooking and cannot possibly add much taste.

I did line this ‘no stick’ flutted tin with the prescribed breadcrumbs.  They may have helped but it didn’t decant cleanly.. 

 I was able to mend it while it was still warm. mmmmmm some chocolate icing is required to keep it together and give it more chocolate taste.   

Made with fresh eggs, Warrnambool unsalted butter and orange juice squeezed with my own two hands and bought from the Vic markets.  I rode there today on my bike.

It’s taken about two hours to make, cook and blog and have coffee. The icing and washing up adds another 15 mins effort.  I used the food processor as the recipe didn’t prescribe otherwise.
