<title><![CDATA[old but good games]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Hey followers.  I got bored recently, so I&#8217;ve decided to dig up a few games from the good old days which are still amazing.  What&#8217;s even more amazing, is the fact that I became so bored, to the extent that I&#8217;ve decided to write a blog about it.</p>
<p>First on the list is Warcraft 3.  Of course, people who play this game would hat me for calling it old, but it&#8217;s true; it was made about 5 years ago, and is still popular.  Although there are (in my opinion) better games, some older (Starcraft), and some newer (Warhammer 40000), this game has such a large fan base that online and single player still remains amazingly fresh after so long.</p>

<p>If one goes online, they will find many people to play with. The units are diverse and interesting, the heroes are great for leading, the story is compelling, and the graphics are quite resilent.</p>
<p>Next up is the oh-so-great Metal Gear Solid, also known as MGS.  Of course, since i have to keep all these game review out of the year 2008, I can&#8217;t include mgs 4 and review it in this post. Either way, the series is still freaking awesome.</p>
<p>The MGS series stars 3 main characters, when it  really indirectly revolves mostly around the main-main character, Solid Snake.  I personally don&#8217;t want to ruin the story for those who may wish to start the series or continue it, due to how it is possibly one of the best war stories I&#8217;ve ever had told to me in my life.  The graphics qualities increase with each game released.</p>

<p>Out of all 3, I&#8217;d have to say mgs 3 is my favourite, not because of the MUCH better graphics, but because of the amazing story and gameplay.</p>
<p>Next up is the Star Wars: Battlefronts 1 and 2.  Possibly my favourite star wars games, simply because rather than trying to emulate what it would be like to lead the glorious life of a jedi, it shows what it would have been like to be one of the soldiers.  Obviously, the online mode is possibly one of the best ones.</p>
<p>Another cool part of battlefront 2 was the space battles.  Not only was losing all control of ones ship and flying upside down amazingly entertaining, but it was also fun to land in the enemy hangar and screw around in their base.</p>
<p>The gameplay varies for those who wish to play first person and for those who wish to play third person.  Also, if you don&#8217;t intend on playing as a soldier the whole time, in battlefront 2, heroes are also involved, which dominate the field, but also have a time limit to keep the fairness.</p>

<p>The second last series of games I&#8217;ll be showing is the great Soul Calibur 2 and 3.  Personally, my favourite fact was that while all other characters wore a shit-load of armouur, the great samurai Mitsurugi wore a bathrobe.  I used him all the time.</p>

<p>Final on my list, is Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3.  Although I have no idea wtf a <em>Budokai</em> is, its still an amazing looking game, which truly captures the DBZ spirit.  The beams look <strong>better</strong> than they did in the show, the cell shading is great, the game has almost no lag, loads fast, and the gameplay is fast-paced.  Just as it should be.</p>

A jogada da <strong>Namco</strong> foi pouco compreensível, pois o <strong>Project Soul</strong> tinha apostado bastante em fazer que o jogo que agradasse mais a multidão com um modo de história bastante mais interativo, um modo de criação de personagem e um modo RPG.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;">Em termos de distribuição ocorreram mais dois erros por parte da <strong>Namco</strong>. Primeiro, não ter ocorrido lançamento em arcades antes dos consoles, e o segundo, lançar no mercado norte-americano a primeira versão. Quando foi lançado o jogo no maior mercado internacional, os jogadores norte-americanos não pouparam críticas à jogabilidade porque não só tinha uma quantidade inaceitável de glitches e bugs graves como os personagens estavam desequilibrados. A <strong>Namco</strong> corrigiu todos os erros na versão européia e ainda melhorou a versão japonesa e com os personagens já bastante mais equilibrados.</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><span> </span>Os americanos preferiam dizer mal do jogo que tinham em mãos, sendo eles o maior mercado, o jogo sofreu grandes perdas como a exclusão do <strong><span class="new">EVO</span></strong></p>

<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>Soul Calibur 3</strong> tem uma jogabilidade bastante menos impulsiva e mais técnica em relação ao antecessor , apesar de ser geralmente considerada mais rápida e com menos tempo para reflexos, que é caracterizada pelos dois tipos de slash: horizontal e vertical, um botão de chute e um botão de defesa. O botão de defesa é algo relativamente raro nos fighters de hoje em dia, mas neste jogo tem papel fundamental não só por causa dos throws, mas também por permitir retreat steps (visto a tecla para trás estar liberta de defender) que se tornam importantes no desenrolar do jogo. Para além do mais, <strong>Soul Calibur</strong> baseia-se bastante na movimentação, estratégica pelos 4 cantos da arena e limitar esse movimento seria frustrante para o jogador. Os ataques horizontais costumam acertar num adversário em 8Way Run enquanto que são poucos os verticais que o conseguem, apesar de fazerem geralmente mais dano. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>I&#8217;m no big fan of the <em>Soul Calibur </em>series, but my roommate is so I&#8217;m somewhat familiar with the games. Despite not caring much for the series, I&#8217;m bothered by something I&#8217;ve noticed after seeing what the latest entry, <em>Soul Calibur IV</em>, has to offer. I&#8217;m also bothered by how the major video game reviewers made no mention of this issue which I would think many people would be upset about.</p>

<p>The character creator of <em>Soul Calibur III</em> was pretty cool. I can recall making a kick-based fighter since I personally know (or knew) Taekwondo. There were other styles of fighting that didn&#8217;t pertain to the standard characters, pre-designd for the game. There was also a campaign mode where you would send out your custom characters to accomplish objectives across a map. It wasn&#8217;t all that deep, but it wasn&#8217;t anywhere as shallow and soulless as what <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> offers.</p>
<p>Basically, <em>SC4</em> does away with the extra fighting styles and campaign mode to &#8220;make room&#8221; for finishing moves and a tower where you complete battle after battle. The finishing moves require several conditions to be met before they can be executed, and rightfully so, but they&#8217;re so rare that there&#8217;s no real point to them, especially when you consider how much was taken out from the last game. As for the tower, there&#8217;s just nothing tying it all together. It&#8217;s just battle after battle. For a game called <em>Soul</em> Calibur, it&#8217;s a pretty soulless presentation.</p>
<p>Apparently in place of the missing fighting styles (like the kick-based greave user), you can now customize the pre-designed characters. The equipment <em>does</em> go beyond just appearance by offering actual stat changes, but this absense of fighting styles and more in-depth modes just makes no sense to me. How is it that Namco Bandai got away with releasing a sequel that is lacking so much in content compared to the game before it? I know why.</p>
<p>Game reviewers made no mention of this lack of content.</p>
<p>Go check out <a href="http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/894/894583p1.html">IGN</a>, <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/soulcaliburiv/review.html?om_act=convert&#38;om_clk=gssummary&#38;tag=summary;review">Gamespot</a>, <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3168981&#38;p=37">1Up</a>, <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/player/37779.html">GameTrailers</a>, other various websites with &#8220;Game&#8221; in the title I&#8217;m sure. It&#8217;s almost as if the people who reviewed <em>SC4</em> didn&#8217;t play <em>SC3</em>, which isn&#8217;t true with at least one of the sites mentioned above. I really just don&#8217;t understand how anyone who gets paid to write about video games can overlook this issue as something that wouldn&#8217;t concern players as being fundamentally wrong.</p>
<p>It just makes no sense. :S</p>

<title><![CDATA[Robbing Our Souls]]></title>

It&#8217;s a little-known secret that I <em>love</em> fighting games&#8211;particularly Soul Calibur. At first, I wasn&#8217;t too thrilled by the screens I saw of Soul Calibur. The same old, same old&#8211;just more glitzy graphics and some finishing moves that looked like they might break the game. But as time has gone by and the release date come closer, I popped in <em>Soul Calibur 3</em> just for kicks and messed around for a while.</p>
<p><em>I</em> missed<em> Soul Calibur 3</em>.</p>
<p>And to be honest, I wouldn&#8217;t mind getting a little shot at Darth Vader. No, he shouldn&#8217;t be in the game. No, I&#8217;m not going to buy the game just for him. But really, playing as Darth Vader and maybe even Yoda is admittedly pretty cool.</p>
<p>So I&#8217;ve had a bit of Change of Heart, and my opponent has stolen me for a turn and put me on their side of the field (curse you, <em>Yu-Gi-Oh!</em>).</p>
<p>The problem is, it seems like they&#8217;re looking to <em>sacrifice me</em>. And all of us.</p>
<p>From <a title="Not Our Money!" href="http://www.bingegamer.net/index.php/2008/star-wars-fans-get-out-your-wallets-namco" target="_blank">this nice analysis</a> put up by &#8220;<a title="Posts by Mike Masashi Murakami III" href="http://www.bingegamer.net/index.php/author/pacodg/">Mike Masashi Murakami III</a>&#8220;, seems like Yoda will be unlockable on the PS3 version and Darth Vader on the 360 version&#8211;but only if you scrape up the cash as <em>downloadable content</em>. In other words, you have to go on the PlayStation Store or onto the Xbox Live Marketplace and <em>buy</em> something that&#8217;s <em>already technically on your disk</em>.</p>
<p>Now, I have absolutely no qualms with forking out money for stuff I don&#8217;t have. That&#8217;s the point of buying. But when I need to pay money to <em>get stuff I already own</em>, I get a little pissed off. Example: iPhone. I want to use my songs as ringtones. You&#8217;d think if I can put them on my phone and listen to them, I should be able to use them as a ringtone. Wrong.</p>
<p>Instead, I have to actually <em>go onto the iTunes Store and buy them again</em>. Not only that, but I think I need to pay a $1 fee to turn them into ringtones. That&#8217;s two dollars&#8211;for a sound your phone makes when it <em>rings</em>. You may think it&#8217;s not a lot, but two dollars is the price of a quarter gallon of <em>milk</em>. Two dollars is enough to buy some stuff on the PlayStation Store that I <em>don&#8217;t</em> own. Whereas these songs? <em>I already freaking have them on my phone</em>. Why can&#8217;t I use them?</p>
<p>That&#8217;s much the same situation we&#8217;re finding in <em>Soul Calibur IV</em> right now. I could pay money in order to be able to unlock Yoda on my game. It&#8217;s tempting. But at the same time, <em>why should I have to</em>? He&#8217;s <em>already</em> on my disk! Can&#8217;t I just, I don&#8217;t know, <em>beat the game on Very Hard Mode without dying</em>? What happened to unlocking content based on skill?</p>
<p><a title="Posts by Mike Masashi Murakami III" href="http://www.bingegamer.net/index.php/author/pacodg/">Mike Masashi Murakami III</a> is calling for people to boycott the downloadable content for <em>Soul Calibur IV</em>. Maybe they&#8217;ll make it free if they see how few people are accessing it. Then again, why would they make it free? It won&#8217;t benefit them in the slightest.</p>
