So, posted a theme from Bleach, then Naruto, I thought I’d post a theme from Soul Eater for today.

After watching the first few episodes of Soul Eater and knowing it wasn’t a short series, I predicted it would the next big thing. I even called it a Third King (apparently I edited it away, but it’s evident in the post address. Lol!). First being Naruto, Second being Bleach. Cause I was seriously enjoying the anime.

Unfortunately, my predictions were off. Whatever it had going seem to have fizzled way before the anime even reached the halfway mark.

I just don’t get the anime crowd. I mean, check the video. How can it not achieve Epic-dom! Pfft…

Immortal my foot.

That was one of the most pathetic deaths I’ve ever seen. I mean, even if you want to kill of a character from an anime, at least do it with a little dignity. As much as I hate him, Orochimaru was still a villain among villains.

He was a solid character with an important role in the anime. At least give him a little more fight instead of leaving with the impression of a sick little kitten.

And now, Kabuto decides to become an attention whore too.

Just great, the character whom I hated more than Orochimaru becomes his alter ego. Way to go from number 3 to number 2. And just to let readers know, the no1 spot of my least favorite Naruto character goes to Sasuke Emo Version.

Welcome once again. This is Soul Eater Breakdown 66 let’s begin. Last chapter was the conclusion to the battle between Maka and her assassin. It was intense and we were give the three basics jealousy, suspense, and yes even heartbreak. The match finished with a new attack: Demon (Warlock) Hunter. Forced to retreat Gopher faced his maker (literally) as he bowed not only for his loss but a fail of emotional restraint after shouting Ebon’s true name all over the battlefield. As if batman himself Ebon interrupts his servant. Ebon also Noah refuses the apology and announce that a took suck as him is not award the conceit of having emotions. The conversation ends and Noah tells Gopher to get out. In wake and frown of this failure Gopher arrives at Kid’s cell. Kidd can already tell and one dnarky comment later the bard (Death Kid) has backed himself into a one sides fight. Alas it’s not a total loss. There are two referees at the side as Justin and Giriko listen the hallway. The scene switches to Medusa and  Crona (Chrona) in what appears to be the creations of something abominable (pornographic). Chapter 65 ends with a scream as Medusa informs her its time.

Chapter 66 opens with Spartoi’s first mission. Welcome to Africa our view arrives with the main group as we trail Fire, Thunder, Kilik and The Thompson sisters. Azusa introduces the mission outline over the channel. Team one will search for Medusa’s lab. Kilik is weapon meister, Fire and Thunder will act as close combat, while Liz and Patty are ranged. The objection is to locate the Witch’s research notes. As they conduct the investigation Azusa will relay visuals to Kim (Kimishi Dehiel) on standby. Kim will parse the witch lettering with Jacqueline from above. That’s it for the briefing. Fire and Thunder communicate with the ground to find the lab as Kilik and Liz are left to wonder over the marvels of the all-powerful incom/income (whaa?) which is apparently the equivalent of witchcraft. Fortunate shines as their loss in modern technology is cut short by a couple of pots in a game of patty cake.

A door’s under that sand and after a thunk a stairway opens underneath. Kilik congratulates the twins for their work and the mission begins. The team leads with a jam and Liz offers a pun.  This session won’t be caught at the trigger and after Kilik makes sure the room is clear the invitation continues downstairs. Azusa checks for traps and warms them not to rush to complete the mission. Kilik agrees however in that sweet sense of irony he walks right under an eye’s vision. There’s a creature staring however it seems to be lacking something, no don’t answer as eyeing from a distance a lone eyeball takes an endless peep. Clearly this thing wants a fight as Patty decides to make a staring contest out of it. Liz however turns away. Let it keep its identity. Kilik catches the joke but there’s a way before anyone is satisfied as it’s no match for Azusa nee-san when it comes to eyesight. Liz states Azusa’s an idol among gun types like her. Laughter aside Azusa continues to listen over the income and even through her flattery demands to continue the operation.

After a reminder Team one enters a room with black liquid. Medusa’s research is here and Azusa asks Kilik to run his eyes across the area. The documents are written in Witch lettering and a series of text flies through the air as Azusa copies each one. After the last one its time to return and Azusa concludes the operation. There weren’t even any enemies and Kilik decides it was an easy mission. However underneath the blind of the screaming sun a set of figures say different. Meanwhile Azusa starts the analysis and connects her eyesight to Kim with the Senrigan. Kilik apologies for intruding back in town. He explains that they’re from Shibusen and the sentence trails off. Kim continues to read from the sky. She realizes something important as the text describes insanity, black blood, the kishin and Chrona. The scene returns to town as she explains that the reasearch is about magic to manipulate insanity. Patty comments on the eyes of the towns people. Liz states there’s something wrong here and the man in front pulls a gun. The battle opens as the Thompson sisters notice what Kilik hadn’t.

The bullet misses and almost certain a head shot is fatal Kilik takes his salvation behind a wall. Unfortunately in a like this (Resident Evil) there’s no time for thought and Azusa can hear as the shots penetrate the gate between here and the afterlife (Soul Society). Distanced from the obvious ruble Kilik explains the situation as he runs down the alleyway. At a crossroad’s he decides its time to return fire. The sisters set their phasers to stun however there’s a greater issue lurking around the corner.

Logic says zombie + weapon = Bad

Gurrilla warfare it sucks when your on the opposing team. A motovl cocktail later Frogger (You know damn well, you wouldn’t have made that jump.) decides the ground is too dangerous. Cursing all the way Kilik makes his path to the roof. Is it safe? Hahaha hell no. Now that the debate is finished. There is a weapon standing in the way and its saying thou shall not pass. Trust me popularity is a bad thing and one dive shot later Kilik rolls straight into an RPG (No not call of duty).

Fucked - When its coming you'll know.

Time for backup. They’re under heavy attack and after the explosion our frog jumps into an open window. Kim tries from above however she’s already under fire. Jacqueline tells her to evade as Azusa sets a rendezvous over the income. She activates her Senrigan and tells them to follow her instruct exactly.

This must be how Pacman feels.

You remember right? It’s a video game and your leading the main character down an escape route. Things look fine on the map but problem is your directions are bullshit. Well Azusa’s found a way around that. There a wall dead ahead and our maiden gives the only advise she can; smash it. Kilik breaks through with his rescue is on the other side. He grabs onto Jacquline and the group books it out of zombie hell.

Insurance - Just remember it doesn't cover witches (yet).

Kim finished her report and Spartoi lands by a tree outside of town. She explains to Kilik that they’ll quarantine the area and what happened in town was probably related to Medusa’s research to control insanity. There also was something written in her report about Chrona. Kim states that she might also be… but Liz interrupts and asks if there is anyway to return them to normal. However naturally any critical evidence is already messing and in this lack of hope Jacqueline states (high five for you) that maybe Black * Star’s team will have more luck.

So at the end they don’t know a thing. Regardless another venture awaits as another creature lurks underneath the water watching. The chapter ends as the enemy rises up from the lake. Born of Medusa introducing the black clown and his insanity.

Ah another recruit for the Buggy army.

So i broke up with Jordan last night. I haven’t been able to see him a lot recently because of school and the fact that he lives in the city. Lately i had been starting to feel like everytime that i did see him he was slowly becoming a differant person. His parents have money. His mother comes from a rich family, so basically she was born into money and his father has a very high paying job so he built up his own wealth. Basically his parents were the sterotypical rich, upper class people. Arrogant, snooty, pretty much putting it simply they feel like they are better than everyone else and look down on other people. HE was never like that. He was always against there way of life and their morals. They wanted him to study law or become a doctor, but he chose to study art because he said he loved it. And now things are differant, he’s differant. He’s been going to school in New York, at a very prestigious university. Slowly he began adopting his parents ideology. He became arrogant, smug. He acted like he was god’s fucking gift to the world, like his money made him better then everyone else, like he could buy his way out of any situation. Even said that the only reason he’s studying art is because it’s the exact opposite of what his parents wanted. He wanted to be a rebel. He feel into the wrong group of people at school. Started partying asll the time, staying out late, doing drugs, coke to be more blunt. He said it didn’t matter, that he could buy his way out if he got into any trouble. He’s an idiot. He’s no longer the guy i feel in love with and i couldn’t take it anymore, so i ended it. And it really hurts, because there was a time where i really did love him. I wonder now if he ever felt that way about me or if he was only seeing me to make his parents angry. I feel used.

However, as much as it sucks, i feel like i did the right thing. I’m moving on with my life. I’m taking a break from dating and relationships for a while. I’m starting new. I’ve never been very good with relationships. I always fall for the wrong people and for once i thought that maybe i had it right…i guess i was wrong. At least i can learn from the experiance and not repeat it in the future, though i guess i didn’t really do anything except have bad judgement.

On to a happier subject. I had my photocritique today. It went really well. I’m happy with the prints, one in oparticular looks incredible. I have another crit on monday, which leaves me little to no time to do the assignment. I’ll be speanding this whole weekend shooting, developing, and printing, thus driving back and forth between my home and New Brunswick like a gazillion times. Ugh! >.<

Oh and here's a drawing i recently did. It's of Death the Kid. I'm not sure what he has to do with anything i talked about, but i love him and he always makes me smile.

Tonight, I had the pleasure of being a member of the live studio audience of the 3rd semi-final of SA’s Got Talent… and the whole time I kept on thinking how could a semi-final come in 3 parts? Anyway, I have some good news: Louis (fellow roleplayer) and Willem made it to the finals! The pair of brothers wowed the audience with their Soul Eater cosplay and rendition of ‘O Sole Mio.

As promised, FUNimation put up a new clip from their 2010 release of Soul Eater this morning, and it shows off the vocal talents of Chuck Huber, who plays Dr. Franken Stein.

We’ll see if FUNimation’s hard push for Soul Eater leads to a broadcast release, but for now, it looks like this dub will be alright.

Chapter 67 of Masami Ookubo’s Soul Eater is out, translated, and blogged by Anime Kritik! w00t! For the first time ever, I’ve followed a monthly release and blogged the next chapter a month after the last one! Pretty exciting stuff for me. Anyway, this is a pretty nice chapter, and I definitely feel like it’s in the ‘groove’. For me, Ookubo has a sort of order that happens in his arcs – they start off well enough, then they get a little rocky, shape up for some great chapters in the middle, get a little rocky again, and then explode in a giant train of EPIC chapters.

The reason for this change in ‘grooves’ is quite simple – Ookubo is a great artist, great fight choreographer, and great character writer, but he can’t really handle a plot. Soul Eater’s plot is totally simple, and the characters and fights are what make it so great, so when he tries to explain the story too much, the manga can sag – it’s a necessary sag, because that little bit of plot will then spawn a fuckload of amazing fights that are driven with that much more purpose by the plot, but nonetheless it means dredging through the exposition.

Chapter 67 is part of that little bit of great chapters in the middle of an arc (really I should split between ‘early middle’ and ‘late middle’, this being ‘early middle’) which as usual involves the characters going somewhere to investigate something and exposing a part of the larger plot puzzle while also fighting some kind of monster. This has been great sometimes (Kid on the train, Black Star and Tsubaki at the village) and kind of iffy at others (Kid, Liz, and Patty on the ghost ship, Maka and Soul fighting the original clown, which got better as it went).

This time started out really, really great in chapter 66 which was a blast, and while 67 was good, it faulted in a way expressed by one question – “how do you fight a clown?” The original clown fight was pretty cool because it took place entirely inside of Maka’s mind and showed an example of the trippy edge that makes Soul Eater so fuckwin. This time, that was canceled by the plot because the Black Clown isn’t as strong madness-wise. So the fight has to get physical, but how does the Clown fight? The thing is designed in such a way that it can’t really do cool combat, and Ookubo figured this out himself since he pretty much had to make the fight a whole lot of Kilik wailing on the damn thing with his pot fists.

This image here was seriously almost enough to redeem the entire fight. Just thinking about how this would look in motion with Kilik flipping back through the tentacles as they cut through the ground is fucking badass – I almost wish it had been a series of two images, but I also think it’s amazing how perfectly Ookubo sells me on exactly what kind of motion is happening just in one image. The fact that there are no action lines on Kilik are what make this so brilliant – we can infer just from his being on one hand and the movement of the tentacles exactly what happened. Brilliant.

And then we get THIS!

Holy shit! Seriously though, this raises so many goddamn questions! Are Fire and Thunder actually teenagers who are in the form of small kids? Do they just have so much power in this moment that the bodies of children aren’t enough to contain it? FIRE IS A DUDE?! (Doesn’t make him any less cute, but as usual with gender identity revelations, it makes you want to go back and reread every part he appeared with this in mind!) Naturally, the older versions look badass (doesn’t everything in Soul Eater?) which is great because the kids always gave me a feeling of intense badassery themselves. And damn that was one big explosion!

After their fight with some surprise expository interjections by Medusa, we cut to Black Star and Tsubaki, who seem intent to be more and more badass with every appearance. Now, mind you, Black Star was quite badass right from the beginning. Anyone who didn’t think so was probably sold by his attitude in the Tsubaki’s brother mini-arc, and yet even with all that badassery, he STILL went of and Took A Level In Badass (I should add him to that article, actually) and came back to have one of the most badass fucking fights in manga I’ve ever seen. Now, evidently, he’s so badass that the story can’t even touch him. It’s like he’s physically incapable of being less than completely badass. And look at this!

ZOMG MAD SKILLZ

Sure, we’ve known ever since that fight with Sid-sensei early on that Black Star is a better ninja than he acts like he is, but holy hell! He didn’t just sense the presence of someone, or just hear their footsteps from an absurd distance, but he actually sensed the acutely sporadic rhythm of the footsteps characteristic of the unstable personality exhibited by Chrona. BOOM.

There’s not much else to say about that run-in since it’s just starting, so now I have some things to say directly in reply to Anime Kritik’s post linked above.

First, in regards to the pots. The way Soul Eater is written (and maybe this is added perspective from having marathoned the manga and seeing several years of work laid out nicely before me) I kind of figure that Ookubo intends to explore the inner workings of every character at some point. Some of the minor characters who probably would never get a full-on exposition, like Free or Mosquito, get enough stated through their actions and dialog that we feel an understanding of their character. I think every character gets at least that much, even boiling down to the likes of the ghost ship captain who at least gets enough personal lines to be remembered at all.

As always, Chrona is looking badass

The pots are very difficult to relate to just because they don’t talk. I think it would be totally unreasonable, though, to think that any of the named weapons or meisters wouldn’t get some kind of personality. Harvard and Jackie got it in their meisters’ major scenes, the bandaged woman who’s name escapes me gets it through her strong opinions on the situations around her – the pots are bound to get something. So far, while we’ve gotten Kilik’s personality, he is still the least developed character of the band, so while this little episode was a start, I’d like to think we can still expect a major expository chapter for Kilik and his Pots to come at some point. Probably during the next EPIC final battle of an arc.

And as for Medusa… maybe it was because of the translation, but I thought it seemed like Medusa wasn’t so much saying that what Arachne did was not a bad idea so much as that specifically her black clowns were not a bad idea. I think that Medusa’s plan right now is to harvest (an army of?) black clowns as a way of spreading madness faster and more to her liking (since it seems she operates them) and drive the world faster towards her vision and less relying on the Kishin. After all, even if the world plunges into madness, she wouldn’t want that madness resting in the potentially unreliable hands of the Kishin who could die or get killed or ruin everything somehow – it’d be much better to have your own finger on the pulse of the madness. She’s very independent, after all~

FUNimation just can’t stop previewing Soul Eater, and their latest dub clip comes from the third episode of the horror-action series. The DVDs come out next year, but if you just can’t wait until the 2010 DVD release, FUNimation is promising yet another trailer tomorrow!

So Ookubo apparently decided to finish Kilik’s squad’s mission before focusing on Black☆Star’s.  I really enjoyed this chapter, and there are two things in particular that I must mention.

1) Fire and Thunder

I’ve seen people in the Forums speculating a lot about Kilik’s twin pots.  I always thought it was kinda odd, I mean why focus on those two weapons??  Chances that Ookubo is going to develop their characters are nil: Fire and Thunder are not secondary characters, not even tertiary, they’re friggin’ quaternary or something!!

Oh-ho!

And then this chapter comes along and wow!  In order to defeat the Black Clown, Medusa’s black-blooded creation, Kilik orders everyone to do a resonance chain: that’s Kim (with Jackie?), the Thompsons, Kilik himself and the pots.  During the resonance, Kim pours all of her witch magic into Fire and Thunder and out come these two buttkickin’ Earth Shamans of doom.  One huge surprise, to me anyway, is that Fire seems to be male [I figured both were female].  I also love the language here: Kim says very clearly she will pour the magic, and as Fire and Thunder are called pots [though they look like gloves] it all makes perfect sense.

These powered-up Fire and Thunder seem to grow out of Kilik’s gloves, and it is they who actually end up wielding Liz and Patty for the kill.  An awesome thing to behold!

2) Medusa’s Change of Heart?

My contention or pet theory throughout this whole series is that what makes Medusa special among the villains is that she is a purist: she doesn’t want power, she doesn’t want the Kishin to herself, she wants to unleash the beast and let madness do what it will.

In this chapter, we find her musing over her plans while overseeing the Black Clown battle from her crystal ball.  And it seems she’s had a change of heart.  She has decided that Arachne’s goal wasn’t necessarily wrong, but that she just went the wrong way about it.  Now, Arachne’s goal was to become the Mistress of the Universe by utilizing the power of the Kishin.  This is different from what Medusa used to believe in, if my interpretation is right.  She even seems to relish competing with Noah.

In a way, though, this makes sense.  I mean, this is not the old Medusa we are talking about here: this is Medusa’s soul in Arachne’s body.  If we ask whether she’s had a change of heart, well, yes, literally Arachne’s heart is the one beating so   Who knows?!  Maybe the changes in Medusa are due to Arachne.

BTW, my other pet theory is that Angela is Medusa’s and Arachne’s sister.  But I digress…

While Kilik and company were tasked with finding about Medusa’s research, Black☆Star and Tsubaki are supposed to actually find her.  In their path lies Chrona, and their meeting sets up the next chapter.  Quite frankly, Chrona looked pretty much as she always does: deadly on the outside but all messed up on the inside.

We also had some great examples of Ookubo fashion in this chapter.  The super-pots are totally primal:

Black☆Star and Tsubaki look cool as.  Soul and Maka could learn a thing or two:

By the way, what are Maka and Soul up to?  Seeing as Kilik and Star are taking care of Medusa, logic would indicate they’re after Noah and the Kid.  But if they are, why aren’t the Thompson sisters with them??  Hmmm…..

And as for the Thompson sisters, I loved this pic:

Notice how different Kim, Liz and Patty look, even though when you really come to it each face is so simply designed.  Marvelous!

So, heute habe ich endlich Soul Eater zu Ende geschaut. Und ich muss sagen, dass ich positiv überrascht war. Nach der ersten Folge war ich mir ehrlich gesagt nicht sicher, ob ich den Anime überhaupt weitergucken soll. Gut, dass ich Soul Eater eine zweite Chance gegeben habe. Die Charas sind zwar alle total abgedreht und teils gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber letztenendes habe ich fast alle ins Herz geschlossen. Am besten fand ich Kid und seinen “Symmetrie-Tick” ^_^

Hab auch schon den ersten Mangaband gelesen und werde definitiv dabeibleiben. Angeblich soll die Story des Animes ab Folge 35 vom Manga abgewichen sein. Ich bin gespannt auf die Änderungen im Manga.

Leere Dosen

Und da ich vor einiger Zeit mit der Ecchi-Harem-Comedy Akikan fertiggeworden bin, durfte ich die dazugehörige OVA nicht verpassen. Heute waren endlich die englischen Subs verfügbar (auf ZOMGanime), da hab ich mir die OVA-Folge mal vorgenommen. Na ja, die Story bestand daraus, dass alle Akikans und ihre Partner zusammen ein Badehaus besuchen. Ich fand die Folge nicht wirklich toll, aber für die männlichen Zuschauer war der gebotene Fanservice sicher toll^^ IMO kam Akikan ohnehin nicht an Inukami heran, wovon ich mir definitiv eine zweite Staffel wünschen würde. Ich will mehr perverse Bösewichte…und Elefanten xD

I went to Borders today to pick up a copy of the Soul Eater manga and because i needed to go to Micheal’s, which is right nextdoor to pick up art supplies. So i go to the manga section in the bookstore, totally excited to get my book copy only to find taht there are no copies on the self. At this point I’m sad and decided on some other manga titles instead such as B.O.D.Y. and Fullmetal Alchemist. I go to the register to pay amd the cashier ends up commenting on my manga. Turns out he’s a FMA fan. So i end up talking with him for like 15 minutes. Some how i ended up telling him that originally i had come to get Soul Eater but they didn’t have it. He then pulls out a copy from under the counter and gives it to me. Apparently it was a copy he set aside for himself. Not only did he give me the last copy of the book (which i was super grateful for) but he also wrote his phone number on the reciet. So freaking cute! If i didn;t have a boyfriend i’d totally call him. XDD

Soul Eater | The trading figures are based on a manga, written and illustrated by Atsushi Okubo, published by Square Enix  in 2003.  It was also serialized as an anime later on which the design sculpt is based on. The figures are about 3-5 inches in height with no articulation, as most trading figures. Paint and sculpt are well crafted as you can expect form Square Enix Products. It’s a lil hefty for $15-25 a figure. If you like the series, it’s definitely worth buying. Don’t forget to click to enlarge the photo for full color size! I’m going to make myself less robotic next time. Yeah… lazy right now.

Hétfőn érkezett meg a Soul Eater első kötete, németül.
Nos, láttam már jó pár szebben rajzolt mangát – a minőség szerintem a Shaman Kingét idézi, de nincs vele különösebb gond, ez is adja az alaphangulatot hozzá (meg hát mégsem lehet mindenki egy Carnelian ).
A történetet úgy ahogy van, nagyon bírom – laza, fight-fight-fight sztori, tökéletes kikapcsolódás, kár hogy német a szöveg, noha informátorom szerint lehet, hogy megjelenik magyarul is, s ez eléggé valószínű, tekintve, hogy elkezdték leadni Animaxen. Ezúton is gratulálok a szinkronhoz, főleg azért, mert Kid hangja szerencsére nem Szalay (vagy Szalai? :S) Csongor lett, pedig fogadtam rá Chrisline-nal. De mint mondom, ez pozitív meglepetés, mert utnig lehetett hallgatni az anime szinkronokban a csávót – ellenben Soul szinkronjával, ami nagyon tetszik, látom hozzá a laza fickót, amit a főszereplőnk formáz meg.
A mangában / animében az is megfogott, hogy tele van idióta arcokkal, akiket szeretni lehet: Soul, Black Star, Kid, Maka apja (hopp, elfelejtettem a nevét, sebaj), vagy Halálkaszamester, ami lulz fordítás. A lányok az animében túl nyávogósak (Blair szó szerint is xD), ezért annyira nem bírom őket. Na jó, Patty jó arc.
Komolyan, az egyetlen negatívum, amit említeni tudok, az a kicsit csúnya ”dezájnja” a karaktereknek (már a mangában), amit hol kicsavart tagok, hol kidolgozatlan részletek mutatnak, de hát nem is az a lényeg, ahogy kifejtettem feljebb.
Ráadásul egyáltalán nem rossz vétel 849 pengőért – mutassatok egy másik boltot, főleg a Trillianben, ahol ilyen olcsón hozzájuthatok a jóságokhoz. Másszóval, all hail Bookline!
