PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With seven games in the books in the 2013 Arena Football League for the Philadelphia Soul, head coach Clint Dolezel breaks down how to describe his team to this point.

“Inconsistent is the word there,” Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. “We play one week well and then we seem to play two games where we’re not playing so well.  We gotta get back on track, a roll, for sure and put some games together.”

The Soul sit at 3-4 on the season as they prepare to host Orlando on Saturday night.   Surprisingly, they are 0-3 at home after last week’s 53-48 loss to the Pittsburgh Power in South Philadelphia.

“It is in the back of everybody’s head, to maybe press a little bit and win at home,” Dolezel says. “But the bottom line is we just need to win football games whether they’re at home (or) on the road.  It starts being consistent in all three phases of the game.  One guy just seems to be a little bit off at times and it seems like (opponents) find that person that’s off every time and take advantage of him.  So we’ve got on the same page.”

One of the Soul’s best performances this seasons came against this Orlando team, which is coached by former Soul head man Doug Plank.  Philadelphia smothered the Predators 61-33 down in Florida on April 6th.

“They are a much improved team over the first time we played them,” Dolezel says. “Now with Aaron Garcia at the helm (at quarterback), they’ve won both games that he’s started.  So they are playing with some confidence, they’re playing better football.  They beat Spokane, who is one of the top two or three teams in the league, last week in an old fashioned shootout, 83-82.  So they feel good about their offense right now and they should.  So we’re going to have our hands full.”

Overall, Orlando is 2-5 on the season.

The Soul and the Predators kick-off at 7:00pm on Saturday at the Center.

I simply sat in the present.

The present is the ever fleeting reality that we live in, but rarely acknowledge. We are always going, we may be physically stationary for a while, but our mind is somewhere else. When we recognize the present, we soak in the beauty, pain, and reality which surrounds us. When I was growing up we went to Montana every other year for a family reunion. The natural beauty there is astounding. It’s in that place where I have experienced God in the most powerful ways.

On these trips to Montana my mind could not go somewhere else, it was always in the present. I was constantly soaking in God’s remarkable creation, theatre in the round. I was fully alive. For me this is where I meet God, the present. I see His work in the past and I believe He is orchestrating my future with precise strokes of providence.

But in the present, I feel His presence. I hear His voice. I experience His goodness.

As this week comes to a close, spend some time breathing in the present. Don’t let your mind wander, turn off the phone, put down the remote, soak in the conversation. Enjoy creation. Pray. Walk. Eat. Drink. Live in the present and it will renew your soul.

Once I forget, I become a person who is unaware of her full potential.

This ease was always there, and you are simply allowing it to flow into you…and then out again, constantly circulating to allow the universe to continue its beauty and expansion.

I went to a secret service in a wooded grotto and held the steamy hands of strangers as we gathered in a horseshoe shape around some ancient mossy rocks. Josh summoned the forest nymphs who sprinkled gold rain onto our leafy heads. He sang of love and beauty and nature and light.

Then he leads us out of the woods and into a sunny meadow where we laughed at the dandelions and waded through the hula waves of tall grasses. Clouds race by like sailing ships, and we danced with the can-can tree tops in frilly skirts… kick, bounce, knee, bounce, kick, bounce… till they showed their petticoats and took a bow. I blew milkweed fluff and wondered how my bare feet could never before have been so connected to the damp earth, while my soul mingled so freely with the sun’s rays. Josh offered a blessing and the dandelions smiled.

It’s hard for me to describe Har Mar Superstar in any sort of succinct manner.  He’s a chubby, long-haired dude from Minnesota who likes to take off his clothes during shows and sing R&B.  But there’s so much more than that.  Har Mar (aka Sean Tillman) has one of the most powerful R&B (or music in general) voices I’ve heard in a very long time.  He’s got the retro sound down pat and he knows how to have fun with it.  But it’s the voice that really gets to me.  From the first heart-wrenching scream of “Lady you shot me!” at the beginning of the song, through the up tempo beats and back to the sultry sound of heartbreak, Har Mar Superstar wipes away all the goofy gimmicks and really lives up to the last word of his alias.  For a truly powerful taste of R&B with a hint of soul, check out his latest album Bye Bye 17, which came out last month and listen to the single above.

The biblical references I looked up that call man a soul are: Genesis 2:7, 1 Corinthians 15:45, Joshua 11:11, Acts 27:37.

The biblical references that say animals are also called souls are: Numbers 31:28, Revelation 16:3, and Leviticus 24:18.

The biblical references that say a soul has blood, eats and can die are: Jeremiah 2:34, Leviticus 7:18, and Ezekiel 18:4.

Also, the biblical reference that says man, having life is said to have soul is: Mark 8:36 and John 10:15.

These concepts are really different to what I have been taught by others, and what I have taught others. Sometimes I think we want something, especially when it comes to our soul, to be what we want it to be, which is not always what scripture says about it. There has been talk about the Akashic Records where the story of our life is written down, and will be reviewed at the end of our life. But again, sometimes I think we want to put the spin of our interpretation on our life. I do believe God sees all, and understands all, but do we?

As for spirit, that is the life-force within the person: Job 10:15, Leviticus 17:11. Spirit is the life-force activating souls: Psalm 146:4, and Psalm 104:29. The life-force called spirit, is sustained by breathing James 2:26, and Job 27:3. The Life-force of humans and animals belongs to God: Ecclesiastes 3:19-21. Also, the spirit is committed to God with the hope of resurrection: Luke 23:46.

The holy spirit is God’s active force and is not a person: Acts 2:2,3, 33. and John 14:17.

If the soul dies, goes back to the dust from which it is made, what gives it eternal life? It is God blessing us with eternal life, if we have lived a life in the way He asked us to.

So often we can delude ourselves. It is important to take care of our body, our mind, our soul and our spirit.

They will tell you that life is a constant struggle, and that it is a real jungle out there and you should always watch your back and keep your guard up. But do you really believe that you and I were brought into this amazing world by an act of pure love (that is – an act of two people revealing secrets of their bodies and inviting one another inside, in the act of respect, happiness and understanding), and yet we should be cruel, competitive and aggressive towards each other? Sure, you put the most gentle man in an extremely hostile environment, and he will do his best to protect himself from every possible evil; that includes being ruthless and cold-blooded. While I think it is not entirely our fault and that we have already found our world to be this way, it is totally up to us to change that. All we need to do is, again, to look at the children. They live in exactly the same world as we do, but while to us it is a constant fight and struggle, to children it is such a magical place. Being unaware and not knowing the rules of all the games that we grownups are constantly playing, children always remain happy, and even when competing with each other, they do it in such a clean and friendly way.

You may say: “well yeah, but we grownups have so much to worry about in order to provide those children with food, clothes, shelter and so on”. But how about those of us, who don’t have children to provide for? And do you really believe that if someone would give you an unlimited amount of food and clothes, and let you live rent-free forever, would you honestly say that this made you live your life care-free, like children do?

People will also tell you that love is extremely curvy road, and when you love someone, you constantly have to fight for each other, and that the more you hurt, the bigger the reward, awaiting for you somewhere at the so-called “end” of your suffering. That you need to be strong and fight tough for yours. Do you believe in that? Do you really believe that the true love can have anything to do with pain? How silly that sounds: to live your live in constant fight for someone’s affections and then, at the end, to expect reward for all the pain that you have suffered, in the form of true love. To actually force someone to love you, or force them to see things the way you want them to see, so that they can “truly” love you. People want you to believe that, because after all those years of listening about love from others, they are so lost in all this confusion that they constantly end up hurt, trying to love others the way they have been thought. Real love cannot have anything to do with pain. Real love is not a result of some sort of hard work, extreme dedication, or something of that nature. That’s a domain of a relationship. That is, when two people that came from two different worlds work very hard to iron out all the differences and remain on the same page, so they can enjoy a strong and long-lasting relationship. But relationship does not always mean true love. Many couples stay together for years, without a minute filled in with love. So love is not equal to relationship.
