Students from the Department of Media Study at the University at Buffalo will be presenting an exhibition of sound art at Soundlab.

The exhibition, entitled Freequencies, is a collection of final projects by students in Intermediate Sound Art, an undergraduate-level course taught by Jessica Thompson in the Department of Media Study, University at Buffalo. This exhibition is supported by the Department of Media Study and Soundlab.

Many of the projects are interactive, and gallery visitors will be invited to participate in the projects over the course of the evening.

Hey gang,
I have been very excited for about 3 weeks now, about Boris coming back to Buffalo one last time before heading back to Japan. If you don’t know, Boris is a band that my friend Phil introduced me to, they’re an AMAZING show. AMAZING. You will be stunned by the quality of their performance if you ever get to see them, if they ever come back to buffalo.

So they played at Soundlab tonight. They played amazingly. HOWEVER, the Soundlab, was not equipped to handle the power of Boris, and as a result, mid jam.. The power blew on these wonderful foreign musicians. They recovered pretty well, but when you have 30 stomp boxes all doing shit at the same time, and 1000’s of watts of sound.. apparently your show should not go on at the Soundlab. I hate to say it, but the band allowed this ’shortage’ to occur 4 times, but after the 5th, which happened mid-serious-groove, the drummer hopped up over the bass drum, grabbed the lead singer’s mic and said: “next time.. mo powah!! we’ll be back!” and then stormed off the fuckin stage, leaving us all with audio blueballs. it was rigoddamndiculous. Very disappointing when last time we saw them, they played for a solid 1.5 – 2 hours, and this show was only 50 minutes at best.

Not that I blame Boris at all, but when your live show features a unified supremely well orchestrated jam session that would make God cry, and the power goes off, who would blame you for giving up?

Soundlab – I love you guys, you bring in wonderful talent and provide us with cutting edge shit, but step the power up!
