What I don’t like about books in particular is extensive description: Where it takes a couple of pages to describe an area or an emotional state. Sure, it paints a vivid image and there’s probably something about a character that can be said if they are the one narrating but at some point the author should look at their text and say “You know, they should start doing some shit soon.”

The only book series I have ever voluntarily read that wasn’t for school was the Harry Potter series. Even the Robert Langdon/Dan Brown novels that I love, I listened as audiobooks. I prefer writing. I guess I’m like a drug dealer: I’ll gladly sell you the drugs but I won’t use them.

Every Fall, Hickok and Boardman’s three divisions in real estate, insurance and financial planning – join forces to raise money for the United Way of Chittenden County. This year the theme is All for One, One for All. In the past, the H&B divisions competed to see who could raise the money for United Way. This year we decided to focus on all of our contributions as a whole and as of yesterday afternoon, we had raised over $35,000! Some of the events this week included a food drive, silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a soup competition. The campaign finale takes place this afternoon at Spare Time in Colchester, which means we’re having a bowling tournament!! (Okay we had to have some competition this year!) The Reilly Team is up against at least four other real estate teams as well as other teams in the other two divisions and we are more than ready to bowl! And with Geri’s love of the upcoming holiday season, our team will of course be sporting Santa hats on the alley!  As soon as the tournament is over and the silent auction closes, we’ll have a better figure as to how much we raised total. Our goal this year was to raise close to $70,000 and we are well on the way! Live united!

The last two weeks have been filled with a LOT of terrible reality tv.  My internship hasn’t started yet, so I’ve had some spare time to fill. My parents, who are waiting for me to start repaying them for college, are naturally not impressed with how many episodes of True Life I’ve seen since I’ve been home, so they told me to find something to do.

My parents’ idea of “something to do” was finding a part-time job.  Mine was joining a gym.

I never thought I’d be the type to enjoy going to the gym; I’d actually avoided it at all costs before this point my life.  I played lacrosse in high school, but five days a week of practice was enough of a workout for me.  Living at home, it’s more of a workout to dig our treadmill out from under piles of laundry and junk than to actually run for an hour.

Getting started at the gym wasn’t easy though.  I felt so awkward there the first day, needing someone to show me where the locker rooms were, watching everyone else for proper gym etiquette. Then there was the second day, when I passed out.  The gym owner was showing me how to operate the weight circuit that day.  We were done the leg machines and starting on arms, when I went quickly from “high off endorphins” to “feeling a little lightheaded” to “on the floor.” Eat before you workout, kids.

Things have been better since then though. My fainting spell earned me the nickname Sugar Girl, and the regulars recognize me. People are pretty friendly too.  When I wear college-themed shirts, everyone wants to know where I went, what I’m doing now, and share their life wisdom — ALL of their life wisdom.  For a $15 gym membership, I’m getting $400 in free counseling.  Not to mention the actual getting in shape part.  It feels good!

The boyfriend insists my love affair with the gym will end quickly, as soon as my enthusiasm wears off and my muscles wear out.  What he doesn’t know is that I’m about to cut the sleeves off all my shirts and start grunting gratuitously during physical activity, including making out. Especially making out.

Anyways, gotta go, my protein shake is ready.

Stephen Covey asked the question: When people claim to do more with less time, what do they do more of? More of the same?

I am a time management coach and consultant specializing in teaching people how to do more with less time. My Bank Your Time program helps people gain control over the events that shape their lives. I do have an answer to Dr. Covey’s question.

The first thing I teach my clients is about eliminating the clutter, the 80% of tasks that yield only 20% value.
The second thing I teach them is about dividing their worlds into two parts – things they “have to” do and things they “want to” do. (This set of “have to” tasks is after eliminating the clutter, so they do indeed have to do these tasks!)

The question is: When do people get to do things they want to do? Answer: In their spare time. However, if they are stuck in prison of their own making wherein their “have to” tasks suck up all their time, where is the spare time? When can they do what they “want to” do? Most people have very little time to spare! What a problem!

Here is my solution: If people complete what they “have to” do in less time than expected (through efficiency tactics that I have developed), they can put together the time they save and create spare time for the things they “want to” do.

My concept is that if people only do what they “have to,” they merely exist. Only when they do what they “want to” do people really live. I teach people to stop merely existing and start really living.

In answer to Dr. Covey’s question, I teach people how to do more of what they “have to” in less time so that they can do more of what they “want to.” This is what I mean when I say “Do more in less time.”

Ormai è da giugno che lavoro per il progetto Coolhunteritaly e vederlo finalmente online non mi sembra ancora vero. Ho risposto ad un annuncio che cercava persone interessate a scrivere di moda e nuove tendenze e voilà, mi ritrovo coinvolta da Valeria, meraviglioso e multitasking direttore, in una cosa enorme e sfaccettata, tra giovani stilisti, fotografi, modelle. Di tutto di più insomma.

Ma partiamo dal principio: gli stilisti. Coolhunteritaly seleziona giovani stilisti da promuovere tramite il sito, mettendo a disposizione modelle (dal sito NewMode), truccatori, fotografi e uno studio attrezzato (NewModeClub) per poter realizzare un servizio fotografico che verrà poi reso visibile sul sito. Il tutto si appoggia sul magazine che propone nuove tendenze sia del mondo della moda, che della musica, del design, dell’arte, una parte dedicata ai libri (Finzioni!) e una agli eventi e alle news.

Io ho due piccole rubriche, una di musica e una di stile. Quella di musica ha un taglio un po’ particolare, mi diverto a parlare degli artisti in media meno conosciuti dal pubblico (italiano) e a descrivere il loro modo di vestire e presentarsi sul palco e non. Un divertissement personale per poter parlare in toni leggeri di Wilco, Fleet Foxes, Bat For Lashes and so on. Per la seconda rubrica, quella di stile, sono stata aiutata dai fashionisti del Lookbook.nu, social network di ragazzi e ragazze che postano le loro foto descrivendo i propri outfit e dando un più (hype) ai look preferiti. Today, I was peacefully browsing along. All was well and quiet. Then suddenly some xylophone music starts playing. So now I’m frantically looking through my 20 something tabs to try find the abomination and shut it off. I can’t find anywhere to turn off this music, and I’m not really even sure which page it is as there isn’t any indication anywhere that there is even music… I had to close everything.

Don’t put music that automatically plays on your pages. It’s nothing but annoying & infuriating.

Whatever you do, do NOT put heavy metal music as the page load music.

I had heard of this site before, but a friend directed me to it again today. It is one of the better sites to use up spare time. Not just a time waster, but a useful time waster. You can input your area of interest, then it will take you to sites that relate in some way to that area. Often uncovering gems that you would come across no other way.

In Italy Halloween and its celebration wasn’t really famous until we started to be absorbed in the traditions of all the TV series and american scary movies arrived in our country. Then, of course, the economic potential of Halloween it was discovered and, on top of that, in Italy we can’t say no to parties, occasions to go out, have fun and maybe leave also some scary experience.

So welcome to Halloween parties everywhere!

But what are you going to do this year? Party or not party? Fancy dress or just a scary movie at home? have you already made a decision?

Oggi ho letto questo post e mi sono ricordata in un attimo di quanto mi piacerebbe andare in Nuova Zelanda anche solo per poco, pochissimo.

Today I read this post and I remembered all of a sudden how much I’d like to go to New Zealand even if just for a little little bit.

Sembrerà assurdo ma io ho cominciato a guardare Twin Peaks due mesi fa. La prima volta che ho visto Laura Palmer sulla copertina di Sorrisi e Canzoni (a tipo 12 anni) ho pensato fosse una storia vera, poi, quando ho capito, ho pensato facesse troppa paura e non l’ho mai guardato. E avevo ragione. Twin Peaks fa una paura fottuta, con il suo immaginario surreale e il vento, i gufi, i nani, i colori del paese, i suoi personaggi stralunati, e il fatto che faccia ancora paura, dopo così tanti anni, è davvero sintomo di qualità e non lascia dubbi sul fatto che questo telefilm sia davvero qualcosa di speciale. Che poi in realtà la serie finisca con la morte di Leland e che le puntate successive siano di un assurdo crescente, la rende per me ancora più interessante. I personaggi funzionano così bene prima, da poter semplicemente sopravvivere agli eventi dopo e andare avanti comunque. Elencarli tutti sottolineando perchè siano così meravigliosi sarebbe troppo lungo (le ragazze sono tutte magnifiche e che stile!), vi dico solo che, stranamente, il mio preferito è il protagonista Dale Cooper, uno che, per capirci, in qualunque altra serie si odierebbe all’istante, con le sue buone vecchie maniere, il suo entusiasmo verso la vita e tutto ciò che è nuovo, il suo buonismo. Ma qui no, non si può detestare Coop quando loda per ore il caffé e la torta di Norma o quando scambia effusioni amichevoli con Harry.

Ormai mancano solo gli ultimi quattro episodi, la partita a scacchi tra Cooper e Windom Earle sta per concludersi così come il concorso di Miss Twin Peaks e io non vedo l’ora di sapere cosa si inventeranno per farmi dormire un altro mesetto con la luce accesa.

I started watching Twin Peaks just two months ago. The first time I saw Laura Palmer on the cover of Sorrisi e Canzoni I thought her murder really happened, then, when I understood what was all about, I thought it was too scary for me, and never watched it. And I was right. Twin Peaks is freakin’ frightening, and the fact that it continues to be scary also now proves how damn good the whole series was. The characters were so good that also the second series (which is absurd) seems ok in a way. About them, I love them all (the girls are all awsome and their style!) but my favourite is weardly agent Dale Cooper, a character which will be naturally hated in other series for his good old manners, his enthusiams about life, his goodness. But how can you hate him while babbling for hours about black coffee and Norma’s pie?

I’m about to end the series and I’m really looking forward to understand what they’re gonna set up not to let me sleep quietly the next month.

Povera Erica, quante volte l’ho rincorsa con la mia Minolta senza mai sapere se le foto sarebbero venute bene o male. Direi che oggi quel brivido lo abbiamo praticamente dimenticato, con i suoi tantissimi pro senza dubbio, ma questa patina sfocata mi dice che c’era qualcosa di più dietro ad una semplice foto, tutto un rito di preparazione e attenzione al dettaglio, interi pomeriggi dedicati, non più solo un fotografo e una modella ma due amiche che si divertono come pazze.

Poor Erica, I’ve been chasing her around with my Minolta camera so many times, not even knowing if the pics would turn good or bad. I’ll say that we lost that thrill nowadays, with all the pros that this brought without any doubt, but this blurry gloss tells me there was something more behind a simple shot, a whole planning rite and attention to the details, whole afternoons committed to a shooting, not only a photographer and her model, but two friends which are having fun like crazy.

How To Avoid Legal Action When Choosing To Not Pay Any Money On Your Old Debt

Legal action should be expected for anyone who is avoiding paying their monthly debt each month, by one creditor or another or more than one at a time even. You never know how bad it could get if you just let all of your debt go for so long, you could find yourself being sued by some of your creditors and if that happens you will have no choice but to somehow come up with the money that is needed to pay off some of those debts, whether you like it or not.
