The L.A. Auto Show saw the absence of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley and others (this year) but still there is no shortage of good offerings and interesting displays. Check them out next:

The Audi e-tron concept ,that made it’s debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show, makes another appearance at the L.A. show with it’s new orange paint. So what is there inside? This electric supercar displays four electric motors that produce 313 horse power. It has a 124 mph top speed that is electronically limited. It goes from 0 to 62 mph in 4.1 sec. And, it will be ready for production by 2012.

Also, earlier Audi announced that the e-tron will be the star of its own PS3 (Playstation 3) game out this month. You will be able to drive the car in the Audi Space a world in the Playstation Home online community. You can download the content and navigate the complicated racetracks with the electric concept. Good Stuff. As reward you get apartments in Audi town!?

The 2011 Ford Mustang was unveiled at L.A. The big news of course being a new power train. Now, the revised Mustang makes 305 hp out of its 3.7 liter V6 engine, a big improvement over the outgoing engine. And, according to Ford, this makes 30 mpg on the highway. It features a new 6 speed transmission in both manual or automatic for its 280 lb-ft torque. Hopefully for Ford this will make the Mustang a better competitor for the new Camaro.

No word yet on it’s performance numbers but we will be expecting all that good stuff from Ford. And, we will let you know how it stacks up against it muscle car rivals. GM and Chrysler: Let this one go.

The 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Special Edition, unveiled here, features performance improvements. Surprisingly, it costs less than the standard STI, $2000 less that is. The total price comes to $32,995. The STI was a performance oriented all-wheel drive car. Now, the special edition achieved a lower price by forgoing premium audio, HID headlights and the automatic climate control. Instead uses halogen lights and just a single disc stereo with six speakers. The special edition with an improved suspension will come painted only on Aspen White. And, more importantly it has that 4 in line Subaru Boxter engine generating 305 horse power with the inter-cooled turbo. Besides the suspension package from the JDM Spec C, there is the good stuff like 18 inch. 14 spoke dark (charcoal) alloy rims. And, expect the handling to improve when tackling those corners.

Of course, in attendance was the impressive Lexus LFA in white paint (instead of the cool matte black painted LFA that was making rounds around the U.S. earlier) and even more impressive the cutaway of the LFA. This cutaway had something of a wire frame like what you find in a 3D model. It displayed the engine, transmission, exhaust and really showed that the innards of the LFA are something of beauty too. After all this, in great part, is what makes this car great.

Some numbers: 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds, capable of 202 mph, features a 4.8 liter V-10 engine producing 560 horse power with a six speed sequential gearbox. The car is rear wheel drive and mostly carbon fibre construction. 500 LFA’s are scheduled for production.

And, here is a car that I honestly thought it was a bit impossible for the time being. The Mitsubishi i-Miev electric car, the concept (unveiled earlier) looked great and the fact that it was a zero emissions vehicle made it desirable. Now, Mitsubishi is better known for family cars, off roads and for its Lancer EVO performance all-wheel drives. There exploits on the rally circuit are legendary but they don’t do hybrids. So a wild looking electric iMiev concept seemed something of an experiment, just an idea. Now at the L.A. Auto Show they come out with this: The production Mitsubishi i-Miev EV ready for the U.S. market and they announce their fleet. These are going to be used by Best Buy’s Geek Squad. And, we can see these leased vehicles as soon as next year. And, production models on sale by 2011. More power to ‘em both. Now when is that Mitsu Lancer EVO XI hybrid coming?

Chevrolet’s Volt or better said another version of the Volt made the rounds at L.A. Not the final production model yet but it’s getting close we are told. The most important factor on this vehicle is the fact that it is an electric car. On the styling department seems that it borrows from the usual suspects; The Honda Civic, the Prius, etc. but manages to fit the Chevy grill and with every new version comes new small styling elements. Interest has been building up which means the market is getting ready for this Volt and electric cars in general.

And, this is the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid. The production PHEV’s are been made as I write this. Well you know the Prius. Now, this prototype is the version equipped with lithium-ion batteries powered by charging as well as gas, which can be handy when you run out of electric juice. The Toyota Prius is the best selling hybrid in history, which could propel this new variant into similar grounds. Exciting, no?

The short wait for those performance hybrids and electric plug-in sport cars that are coming next, begins.

Leave well alone? But it's in the best Lucas Tradition!

I thought it’d be interesting to take some of the old drawings and try to colour them as faithfully to the film as possible. It’d be fun to see a poor drawing very accurately coloured. It is fun to do but with this one, perhaps I took it too far. It simply looks too good.

Perhaps the problem with Vader in the after version is that the original childish line-work has been swamped by the dark, better-executed under-colour. I think if I can lighten and re-tint the line-work and make it show I’ll get a better looking yet still reasonably faithful image.

It is in the best Lucas Tradition of taking something great that you did when you were young and tinkering with it – a sort of Special Edition version – but I’m not sure about it now.

… for HOURS! This game is just ridiculous, I’m going to blame the fact that I haven’t update the blog on this game, it’s actually a really good excuse (You would know if you’ve had a chance to get your hands on it)! In case you hadn’t tried it yet, hopefully you have a good reason for this, but be prepared to sink in countless hours into it, and say bye-bye to your social life.

Visually the game is stunning. Although the engine is not top notch, it’s still fantastic to watch. To keep the graphics fairly basic was an ideal choice though, considering the majority of the game takes place online. Even though there are much better graphic engines out there, you wouldn’t want to be online and experiencing life-draining lag every time you turn a corner. The sound is also top notch, you can easily tell that they put a lot of detail into all aspects. Everything from countless death noises and cries, to bullets flying by your head, to ambient explosions in the distance.

Now to the best part, the game play.  I’m going to be brash and totally exclude the single player aspect of this game, other than to say it’s not very long. Sure it’s satisfying, but you’ll be spending the majority of your time online. Once you’re online, you start off at level 1. This is pretty much your level of skill. As you rack up the body count, use different weapons, and surpass certain achievements you will undoubtedly make your way up to the peak, which is level 70. And of course through out your journey you will unlock new weapons, gear, and perks as you go. Perks are essentially special skills that you can chose to assist you in battle, you can assign these to your custom classes as well so you can switch through on the fly without making adjustments during a match. A unique thing that they’ve added are Titles and Emblems. Theses are  unique badges that you can display for your user ID, and will pop up anytime you kill someone, shoot down a UAV (search it), capture a flag, etc. It’s a way to show your own sort of style so to speak.

Night vision gogles are what came with the special addition, this should be reason enough!

One very different thing about MW2 is that 70 isn’t the end, no. Once you’re at 70, you’ve got the option to Prestige. What this means is that you will be reset back to level 1. Before you ask “Why would I wan’t to go back to level 1?!”, it’s not just that. You will have the opportunity to unlock more emblems, more titles, plus you will also have a special, spiffy badge beside your name thats not the same as everyone else’s (Unless they’ve also prestige). And to top it off you, I believe you can prestige 10 times. This in itself adds massive longevity to the online aspect. I’m not sure if I would even do it over 10 times… guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

I don’t want to give away too much, but this purchase is really a no brainier.

Residents of North America are already able to buy the God of War Collection which contains the first two God of War games in HD on the PS3. European gamers, however, have not been so fortunate. First, the God of War Collection was delayed until to 2010 and now that it is coming, there happens to be a rather large catch.

To only way for Europeans to get the God of War Collection is to buy the God of War III: Ultimate Trilogy Edition (Pictured above). The collectors edition already has a hefty amount of content in it so with the new addition, it won’t be very cheap. This also means that it won’t be released until God of War III is released.

12 Memorable Years in Laguna Phuket

I am writing my story of Laguna Phuket (LP) today, 1 December 2009 and as I write this short background note, I reminisce the years that I spent at LP. This significant date marks my 12th year working in LP. I was told it is the longest stint, for an expatriate at the Senior Management level in LP, in terms of duration of service.

At the Beginning

When I first arrived at LP, I was pleasantly surprised by the Thai warmth and hospitality. I found out that the Thais were extremely friendly. I remembered knocking over the telephone operator at Dusit in my second week at work. She fell from her motorcycle just entering the Canal Village parking area. I could not recall whose fault it was. My initial reaction was to ensure she was sent to hospital. I offered to pay for any damage and genuinely felt concerned. Fortunately, the lady only sustained minor bruises. These instincts have since kept me in good stead over the years. Being fair and kind, yet demanding a high work quality work from my staff.

There is another event which I would never forget. I was having lunch on my own at the Spa Pool Lounge, as it was known then, when I saw one of the waitress, Khun Jamnian, crying at the service area. Politely I asked her manager, Khun Malee, why she was crying. Khun Malee said that Khun Jamnian was informed by the doctor that she cannot have a baby, which she has been trying for some time. My sister-in-law, who was a paediatric doctor, happened to be holidaying in Phuket at that time. I made a phone call to Allamanda and asked my brother and sister-in-law to come over. They came and spoke at length to Khun Jamnian. Some months passed, and one afternoon whilst in my office, my secretary said a Thai man wanted to see me, so she sent him into my office. He knelt on the floor and prayed at my feet! He said he was Khun Jamnian’s husband and was thankful as she was two months pregnant.

I am not sure if my sister-in-law did anything different from the local doctors in terms of advice. But at that early stage, I realised whilst it was nice to be important, it was important to be nice!

Spa-ing It Right

The above two events are but two little insights to work and life at LP then, many things have changed since I first arrived at LP. My vivid recollection of the early days is that of the expats working in the hotels, being totally out of sink with the local Thais. The work ethics then left much to be desired as working style, flamboyance and lifestyles of the expats far outweighed substance where detailed work was concerned.

I had joined the company at the worst possible time. It was late 1997/98 and the Asian economic crisis was in full swing. With issues of redundancies, cutbacks and the baht all in turmoil, I was wondering if I had made the right decision. Doubts were surfacing, resulting in many sleepless nights. I am glad I saw beyond the doubts, endured the challenging period and supported the company through the difficult period.

As we entered the 21st century, LP was slowly changing. More and more systems were put in place, structures and policies were the buzzwords at work. I was one of only three expats managing Banyan Tree and Allamanda along with the GM. Those were the happiest days of my working life, lots of autonomy and learning about Operations. To this day, the word “operations” is still, in my opinion, an over-exaggerated and misused word. If you empower your staff, provide guidelines and with a certain level, I stress certain level, of check and balance, your operations will be a success. This is that ethos that I manage the Spa with.

January 2005 marked a significant milestone in my career. I was tasked to head up Banyan Tree Spa. I did not have any idea then what spa was all about. I took up the challenge and the rest is history. It was a total change of mindset, managing a team made up of 90 per cent Thais. I had to manage the therapists, set processes in place and ensure quality in service delivery. Though managing spas was new to me, I am proud of the team that we have and our growth from one spa when we started Banyan Tree Spa Phuket in 1994 to 65 spas globally today. As a leading spa operator in Asia, we made waves with the 135 awards we have achieved to date and established two Spa Academies in Phuket, Thailand, and Lijiang, China, making the spa a quintessential part of the Banyan Tree experience. All these ground work were, in essence, carried out from LP.

Looking Ahead

LP was becoming a more stressful place, especially with the emergence of the Unions in 1999/2000, which made it uncomfortable for all. Local management had split loyalties and Senior Managers had to manage the change smoothly, without hostilities, something which spilled over in early 2008 and was not pleasant at all. Over the years the importance of service charge had increased and management in LP is adapting professional working structures, with the sensitivity and better understanding of the Thais. It is not just about meeting deadlines or keeping people happy at any cost, it is a fine balance of the two.

Looking ahead, I see many positive things. Forging closer relationships with the local communities, growing LP as a leading integrated resort, not only in Phuket but in Thailand and eventually making it an outstanding brand leader. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to constantly learn from my immediate and farsighted bosses, especially in the last four years. I take away lessons which are not taught at management school. Coupled with my personal traits and leadership skills, I am looking forward to exciting times at LP.

Work aside; it is funny that after 12 years in Thailand, I still do not speak a word of Thai. But I am proud to say that I have forged friendships with many of our associates in LP, who knows me as Khun Lavvi, from the tutuk drivers to the gardeners and security guards, through the common language of soccer. The Thais know my love for soccer and my favourite Arsenal team. Without having to speak a word of Thai, we communicate in a special “soccer language” that binds us together.

That said, I will put it down on my New Year resolution, to learn to speak Thai in 2010, and I look forward to many more good years with our Spa team or any other business unit LP challenges me to head

Phattharawadee our former HR director and now Business Development Director was always bemused and im sure she still is when Arsenal Matchday lives went on, added to my birds singing sun shining texts, she definitely thought her boss was mad. So to see her wishing Aryana is indeed a great achievement in my brainwashing of the Arsenal in disneyland (Phuket) .

many of my family and friends in London, could never understand the Arsenal overdose in Disneyland for the last 12 years, so when Monsieur Butler who has recently relocated with family to Holland acknowledged to me , he know fully understands, he now goes nuts on weekends , and after work, so he has taken up Arsenal in a big way … he calls me regularly on sundays to analyse the Arsenal games, before he would only call to tell me or should i say ask me for rooms in Phuket or a restaurant booking in phuket ! only joking mate, i hope that line doesnt jeopardise my xmas present.

So the Aryana thing whilst lovely, is still another distraction hoping that Londons finest win and her uncle survives another day at work.

I suspect a glass of Blue label will be sipped tonite, oh i do hope we win the League !

What can i say, She turns 5 today, 5 years of Arsenal loyalty from the day she was born, Arsenal songs to the sound of the Gypsy Kings sang in her name…..in bars, swimming pools, shower cubicles, cars , offices , walking to the office, walking to bed in over 20 countries that i have visited in that Time…………..

Many people ask me why i make such a big deal of aryanas allegiance to The arsenal, well its simple, my twins have no choice but to support Londons finest and too there credit they love the Arsenal, Aryana being my sisters daughter does have a choice and the fact she has visited me in Thailand 7 times, 8th visit in 3 weeks time says something …so in esscence thats the reason, PLUS HER NAME rymes to Arsenal……….

Shes had THE ARSENAL COLOURS WORN ON HER SINCESHE WAS 2 MONTHS OLD, i do believe Uncle Andy has delivered her a new Arsenal pyjama set and a nasri top, her favourite player !

The curse of November injuries .coincides with Aryanas birth, apart from the FA CUP in 2005, weve won nothing , will it turn this year, looks like a difficult ask with Van persie out, Clichey, Gibbs, Denilison, Bentdner , walcott etc.. gonna be difficult.

What on Earth was Robin Van persie playing in a nothing friendly match against Italy, i woke up on Sunday Morning with news that our Star Striker would be out for 3 months with damaged Ankle ligaments ! By Bye premiership, yes i know its only one player but like ive been saying all season a Injury to him or cesc and we are dead meat, heavy reliance on 2 players.

The prognoisis now is Robin will be out for up to 6 weeks, thats slightly better news but with games against Chelsea and Liverpool coming up , we will have to rely on Arshavin and Eduardo to do the business , not the same but what to do !

Aryana apparently wants a chance to help out our injured squad, laughable as it sounds she does have the neccessary requirements :

1. shes under 5 and a kid.

2. She likes to pitter patter and play with the ball.

3. shes pretty and got long eye lashes

4. She loves wearing Arsenal tops.

With just a few days away from it’s release. Square-Enix has presented the gamers one hellaluva treat by making the PS3 Slim an arm for the fans as presented at the photos that you see here.

Final Fantasy XIII will have it’s very own PS3 skin with Lightning as it’s design rendered in pink and the unit itself observing a white sleek finish which is a definite “MUST” on every fan that waited for the said game.

Another one that will surely burn the gas from your pockets will be the Original Soundtrack that they are also going to shipout. It comes in two pricey flavors, one more deluxe and limited than the other.

The standard edition of composer Masashi Hamauzu’s score to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game comes on four discs and in an attractive slipcase for an asking price 3990 yen (about $45 USD). The more deluxe-ified package, dubbed the “First Cut Limited Edition,” features a fifth disc, fancier packaging and a heftier price tag of 5250 yen (about $58). Overall and regardless of the price, i’m pretty sure this will end up as a “SOLD OUT” item when it hits the stores. Final Fantasy XIII Japanese release will hit the shelves come December 17th of 2009.

Gran Turismo coming March?

That’s right folks, Gran Turismo 5 will hit japan come this March of 2010. As for the denizens of the West side, a bit of a longer wait for us for even the release date itself is still in the wraps. Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Chris Hinojosa-Miranda has told Destructoid that the game is currently – and vaguely – gunning for a “summer 2010″ release. Which overall, Summer in a 4 seasoned country is sometime in “JUNE”.

Makers of God Of War III finally gave the gamers good news by stating that the game is up and ready for it’s scheduled release of March 2010. The publisher and the development team are only tweaking the graphics itself and some minor changes but not on the story itself. They are doing this to assure that the gamers who will purchase the game will not be disappointed and will give them a very satisfactory remark.

An academically-accredited peer-reviewed journal publication is important for the network as by gaining this type of public recognition it becomes easier to access research funds for ongoing activities.

The WiG steering committee is a volunteer group that works with and beyond the WiG events to provide an ongoing resource for all those interested and engaged with this work.

They really should smile more. But anyways..

Here’s the Special Edition featuring a small nest of crocodiles, which I feel is really eye-catchingly whimsical.

I love bikes, always have since I first seen one. Which was a Yamaha R1, and I fell in love with it. The classic white with a hint of red here and there was just awesome. And yet, I still want one til this day? 1998 Yamaha R1 in the classic white /red.

That being said, it’s not the ‘new bike’ for this post,  is not the R1. Yes, people who know me, know that I have  a few bikes. That being said. This is the next one for my stable.

The Triumph Daytona 675SE(2010 edition). I’ve been looking into getting a 600cc range bike since about may, but got tired of riding around and seeing pretty much everyone on a sport bike riding one of the big 4(Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha & Suzuki). I mean don’t get me wrong, there is nothing  wrong with them. Hell i’ve even had a 600 Suzuki, Honda and Kawasaki, but I get tired of seeing them. I dont like to blend in. I like to be difference, unique…ME! How many people do you see on a British over the big 4? 1 out of every 50 is the average. That kind of fucked up. Id say it more like 1 out of every 100 but whatever.

It’s unique bike in more than 1 way, because not is it only British but it also only has 3 cylinder’s. Body styling is awesome and reminds me a lot of my Ducati, which I absolutely love Duc’s and they are my all time fave. Like most people I fell in love with them when I first set my eyes on the 916. But…enough about Duc’s. It was the same when I first set my eyes on a Triumph Daytona 955i and a Speed Triple. I wanted one. Especially the speed triple, because out of all the foreign bikes, the Ducati Monster is the one I seen…A LOT! 

But for some reason, I never got them. Price maybe? I dont know. Either way, I think now is the time. I want a 600, plus I benefit from the extra power, being able to keep up with friends on 750 is always nice lol and being able to pull away quickly if needed. Lots of other reasons, but I don’t need to list them.

I know theres people who will probably read this and go, ”why not get a 1000?” Simple, I dont need a 1000. Most people who have a 1000 can’t ride them well and will NEVER push them to the limits, especially on the street. Hell there is not many that can even push a 600 to the limits so forget a 1000! A 1000 is more power than I want, or need, besides that, I have a few. Insurance would be more, maintenance would be a little more, and a higher risk of theft as well.

Well, the 675 has everything I want, and need. Style, power, comfort, noise, etc. It’s a beautiful machine. So enough talking, here are some photos:

Well, enough about this. I’ve carried on for to long, and kind of lost focus, but then again…im tired, its late and im hungry. So i might come and revise this post later and i might now, we will see lol.
