‘Tis the season. I can hardly believe I’m printing out a supplies list for back to school already. Here in Georgia, school starts on August 10th. For therapists, that means schools are figuring out their enrollment, and seeing whether or not they need contract help. The best thing about a school contract is the length – 9 months if you start in September, 5 if in January. Much longer than a typical 3 month contract in a hospital or SNF. Graduation Day

My son graduated from his preK class last week. It was so cute: fourteen 5-year-olds in caps and gowns singing songs & not quite understanding why all the moms were holding back tears.

I was fairly certain I could pick out the future doctor, the engineer, the accountant, and the teacher. But I wonder if there were future physical therapists in the group. Or speech therapists. Or occupational.

At any rate, congratulations to all the kids, young and old, attending their graduations. To the high school graduates: I hope you’ve thought about a career in rehab therapy. If not, ask a therapist. It’s a great profession with a fantastic career outlook.

A new twist to the traditional Mojito

Calling all MDI Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists: Now that the Memorial Day weekend is upon us, I thought it would be nice to share with you this refreshing drink recipe that has become a favorite at all of our weekend barbecues and holiday gatherings. This recipe is super easy and oh so delish! Surprise the host of the next event you are attending and bring along a pitcher full! This one is a crowd pleaser. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

64 oz. of Limeade (Any of the popular brands work fine)

1 bunch of fresh Mint

750 ml of Coconut flavored light rum

Crushed Ice

3-4 fresh limes cut in wedges for garnish

Start with a tall tumbler. Drop 3-4 mint leaves in the glass. Be sure to muddle the mint leaves well. Fill the tumbler with crushed ice. Add 1 part rum and then add 3 parts Limeade. Finally, garnish with a wedge of lime .

Tip: Whether you are making a pitcher full of this blend or drinks by the glass, the mix ratio is always 3:1.

Remember to drink responsibly. Have a great weekend.

Heads Up! for Your Special Needs Child

Do you have a special kid? A kid that has some special learning needs? If so, you have probably spent a lot of time and money getting resources to use to help your child learn easier. I know I have both as a parent and a special education teacher. In fact, I have access to companies that many homeschoolers have never heard of, but the resources can be very expensive. I now have the site that works for me, and you will pleasantly surprised at the diversity and affordability of products.

I was provided many of the colored frames which have different colored transparent films to lay over the written page. Even my regular education students without learning or vision difficulties found that a certain color reduced the glare helping them to read longer without tiring their eyes.
