Suddenly, I found that my CPU run between 60 °C to 80 °C, which is quite high. I noticed this because the CPU fan was becoming really noisy and, of course, annoying. I used several software to watch the CPU and motherboard temperatures, including SpeedFan, Core Temp and PC Probe II for Asus motherboard.

I would strongly recommend SpeedFan if you want to monitor your system temperatures. It’s really powerful yet small and easy to use, as you can see below all the temperatures and fan speeds it displayed.

My PC configuration is
CPU: Intel E6300 1.8GHz
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe with Wifi AP
Memory: 3 x 1G Corsair 6400

Here are two pictures of temperatures when CPU is idle and full.

A lot of dust was on the stock Intel CPU fan. And one of the hard drivers was also hot. So I bought this Freezer 7 Pro and a 5.25 in. hard drive cooler from newegg. The hard drive cooler is very good in that it can mount my 3.5 in. hard drive to the empty 5.25 slots, since I already got several hard drives crowded at the 3.5 in. slots. The installation for the new CPU fan was easy. But this cheap hard drive cooler took me more than an hour to properly install it. It just didn’t fit well in the slot.

Dear Readers,

RR V2.0

Now You Can Follow The Computer Savvy Weblog Via Twitter: https://twitter.com/Computer_Savvy

I have for the longest time been getting e-mails about computers and how you can find out your computers temperature rating. So here is yet another Q+A..

Q: How Can I Tell What Temperature My Computer Is Running At ? A.K.A: How Hot Is My PC Running ?

A: There is a very simple and easy solution. There is a program and free at that called SPEEDFAN it mearsures all the diffrent internal temperatures HARD-DRIVE (internal only) CPU and so on. It is very very useful and a must have tool for PC’s as well as Laptops.

Here is the link:

http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Then click on the blue highlighted part that says SpeedFan 4.39 and it will ask you do save it or run it. Then your done very small program so no worries dial-up Internet users.

What does it do? It monitors your CPU, Mother Board and Hard-drive and internal fans and gives you a temperature read out..in your system tray..so you can tell how hot your computer is running to prevent damage and improve over all system performance

2. Ease of use – Very Easy - This is very easy to use because you install it and it is ready to go. In most cases it does auto-detect most CPU’s and Motherboards. There has not been any computer I installed it on that did not detect the components.

3. Interface - Very Very simple it has tabs on top that is pretty much it. It is not fancy..but in this case that is how you want it…

4. Can you leave it running and it will run with out issue ? Yes, you can no doubt

5. Is there adware or Spyware bundled with it ? A big NO

6. Is it stable ? Very stable

Overall a 4.5 out of 5 – This new version is a whole lot better then the last version. Just based on the fact it reads a lot more computers now as well as loads up a lot faster. There is only one thing I would like to see in the new version of SpeedFan and that is the ability to have SpeedFan load up on start-up.

You can grab this freeware from the following website: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

Well it seems like it has been forever since the last version of SpeedFan was released (4.38). The past version was very stable, But it of course had some compatibility issues as have all the SpeedFans versions I have tested. Of course some CPU’s, Graphic Cards, and or motherboards sometimes would show in-correct temperatures readings or not pick up the components at all.

This new version seems to have a much better detection rate and seems to like laptops better then the last version. This version even loads up a lot faster then the last version. Regardless you still can’t beat the price -free-

SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware

SpeedFan is a program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info and show hard disk temperatures. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware (but this should be considered a bonus feature). SpeedFan can access digital temperature sensors and can change fan speeds accordingly, thus reducing noise. SpeedFan can find almost any hardware monitor chip connected to the 2-wire SMBus (System Management Bus (trademark belonging to SMIF, Inc.), a subset of the I2C protocol) and works fine with Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP and Windows Vista. It works with Windows 64 bit too.

SpeedFan allows you to have a deeper view of the status of your computer. Almost every computer includes support for hardware monitoring. Accessing digital temperature sensors is really useful. If you are trying to figure out why your pc hangs when under heavy load or after some hours of usage, SpeedFan might help you to find the real cause. Very often it is a poor power supply, or an improperly installed heatsink that lead to behaviours that we tend to associate with errors from the operating system, but that are not. SpeedFan automatically searches your computer for interesting chips: the hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can expose voltages, fan speeds and temperatures. On rare occasions, the BIOS doesn’t activate such features. SpeedFan tries to enable them as long as this is a safe thing to do. Not only the motherboard is searched, but also some video cards and almost every recent hard disk. SpeedFan can access status info from EIDE, SATA and even SCSI drives, showing, in a consistent way, internal data that can be used to diagnose current and future hard disk failures. This is known as S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology). At the lowest level, SpeedFan is a hardware monitor software that can access digital temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can control fan speeds according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise.
