I am sick and I am bored. I took the computer with me downstairs and put myself in the sofa. I have not moved except for reaching for the remote. I worked a bit in Ps while “Love Actually” was on in the background. I came up with this:

Here is a cityscape, initially the ideas was to make large blocks of city buildings move slowly around by machinery (think a near Bill Viola effect but on a cityscape scale). A constantly shifting slow motion environment where alleys slowly close, neighbours change and the inside shifts to outside. Of course I’m not sure if this really comes across in the painting but it’s perhaps a nice start for another painting, or even a project.  This painting gave me more of a feel about a materiality and rustyness to the space. So it was fun to do.

Been a little while, been working on some illustrations lately, trying to get into the groove of doing more whole pieces, hence the following! Also playing with a bunch of sketching and trying to improve the old perspective skills! The next two below are a work in progress of the dragonfly. Almost there……. maybe!

Diese Frage stelle ich mir immer wieder.

In den vergandenen Tagen hat Google oder eine andere Suchmaschine jemanden mit dieser Frage auf meinen Blog abgeladen. hm…und nun? Eigentlich sollte ich mich freuen. Denn dieses ist ja einer der Gründe, warum ich den Blog eingerichtet habe. Ich will mit anderen meine Erfahrungen teilen. Aber ich werde diese Frage auf meinen Blog nicht umfassend beantworten können.

Warum? Ich habe schon ein wenig Beiträge und Fragen zu Papier, Rahmung, Anleitungen / Step by Step für meine Aquarelle geschrieben. Aber es sind nur Ausschnitte aus der großen Welt des Aquarells. Ich werde nie so malen wie Brunner, Funck, Hofmann, Kohler, Mattern, Vogel ….. (mögen mir die Großen des Aquarells verzeihen, dass ich mich mit Ihnen vergleiche ). Damit werden auch die eingesetzten Materialien und Techniken variieren. Es gibt von den eben genannten Malern eine Vielzahl mehr oder weniger guter Bücher, einige Zeitschriften, viele Lehrgänge und Akademien und alle beschäftigen sich mit dieser Frage: Wie malt man Aquarell?

Keiner hat den Stein des Weisen gefunden. Damit gibt es Platz für alle, die es probieren wollen und auch für mich.

Besonders interessant ist es, wenn Maler, die eigentlich im Acryl, Öl, Pastell ihre Heimat haben, etwas zum Aquarell sagen… Meist sollten Sie es sein lassen. Entschuldigung Aber ich meine es ernst mit dieser Aussage. Warum? Es fehlt Ihnen oft das Verständnis für das Medium “Wasserfarben”, Papier und die vielen anderen möglichen Materialien, die entsprechenden Techniken und schlicht die Übung.

Hier zu gibt es eine kleine Geschichte: Martin Mißfeldt war dabei zu den verschieden Kategorien – Speedpainting, Ölbilder, Aquarell, Gouache, Zeichnungen, Cartoon – Artikel für seine Homepage zu schreiben. Wie es so ist, hatte er die einzelnen Themen mal zur Diskussion gestellt. Bei dem Thema Aquarell – hm.. der erste Entwurf des Artikels war sehr flach. Martin Mißfeldt möge mir meine freche Aussage verzeihen. Klar, denn die Stärken die Martin Mißfeldt liegen auf anderen Feldern. Aber, nach und nach ist eine gute Seite zum Thema Aquarell entstanden und etwas konnte ich auch dazu beitragen (sie müssen nur auf seiner Seite nach ganz unter scrollen ).

Die Moral der Geschicht: Auch gut ausgebildete Künstler, müssen sich immer wieder der Frage stellen: Wie malt man Aquarell?

Probieren Sie es, es lohnt sich. Aber lassen Sie sich nicht erzählen, Aquarell ist “nur” etwas für Anfänger

Below are some portraits, trying to get back into more figure/portrait painting!

…Which pretty much just means a whole lot of random crap. I don’t really know what to do for a header, considering I’m already over my head in art projects and haven’t been able to write anything good lately (I think because I’ve been trying to force myself to write the wrong stuff… which I’ll get working on fixing sometime soon), and instead, I shall shamelessly plug My Deviantart! Yay! *poke poke* You know you want to. And I added some new scraps today, but that’s about it until I finish what I’m working on. Namely, a colored version of the sketch I put in and, if everything works out, my very first Speedpaint!

What is a speedpaint? Well, it’s where you make a picture on the computer, normally in one sitting, in a very short amount of time. Oh, and no lines. Mostly used for concept art, practice, and/or drawing super-awesome reference pics. The one I have found that I intend to practice with is one of Marilyn Monroe. I know, weird, but that’s okay. I’m just like that.

Also, oddly enough, in the process of finding the picture, I also found a very strange website called listal. It confused me, so I wanted to check it out. After some basic poking around, I found a very strange list of quotes. Some of them I’ve seen before, some I haven’t, and about half of them are in portuguese. If you, like I, are crazy and would like to read the ones in portuguese, Google translate should do most of them up quite nicely for you, though some are completely unrecognizable. Most, however, will be understandable, if a bit oddly worded. And, of course, there are some words that are apparently complete misspelled gibberish because Google Translate has no idea what they say.

Now, I would like to tell you about why I’m suddenly interested in speedpainting. Well… actually, I don’t really know, but here’s what I re-discovered when searching for a tutorial. An amazing Deviant who is the most incredible speedpainter in the world. He has such an eye for detail it amazes me. And he has step-by-step breakdowns of his various speedpaints, tutorials of all shapes and sizes, and videos showing entire speedpaints from start to finish. Not only are they educational, but they’re fun to watch!

He also has some cool graphite stuff I haven’t had much time to look through. But nonetheless, He’s a super-amazing artist. Check him out.

In other news, despite the fact that I have already given you a whole page of quotes, there will still be a quote of the day. And perhaps and update later with a quip of a story, since I figure I need a balanced creative diet. And… well, there’s some other stuff I could talk about but don’t feel like, so expect pictures next time I post and, before the quote of the day, a bout of profoundness that came about from my riffling through the writing section at Barnes & Noble trying to find a good birthday present for my friend. One that has been housed in my signiture on the roleplaying site:

Ich hatte in den vergangenen Tagen nach dem Besuch des Future Hotels  das Thema “Welche Rolle wird bildende Kunst in der Zukunft haben?” aufgegriffen. Wird Kunst dann nur noch mit digitalen Mitteln erstellt? Nun ja – unterwegs wird dann nicht mehr auf dem Block skizziert, sonden Sketches auf dem iPhone erstellt. Die Endfassung wird dann mit Photoshop am heimischen PC erstellt.

Haben Sie in diesem Zusammenhang schon etwas vom Speedpainting gehört? Wenn Sie einen guten Einstieg in dieses Thema suchen, gehen Sie auf die Seiten von Martin Missfeld zu diesem Thema. Er hat einen sehr informativen Blog. Er hat zu dem Thema Speedpainting eine sehr gute Überblick zusammen gestellt, z.B.

• Geschichte – Milestones,
• Arbeitsschritte,
• viele gute Beispiele.. – schauen Sie rein es lohnt sich

Es ist schon beeindruckend. Gut finde ich auch, dass er sich in dem Kapitel “Digital Malen: Vorteile und Nachteile” im Vergleich zur traditionellen Malerei auseinander setzt. Er schreibt z.B. ” …Entscheidender Nachteil eines Speedpainting ist natürlich der Verlust des Originals im traditionellen Sinne. Es gibt kein “echtes Ding” mehr, dass haptisch und fragil ist. ..”
In dem Sinne bleibe ich noch bei meinen Pinseln …
