MC300-MS7 York-Sunbury Historical Society Collection
Description (page 121)

If you are interested in any of these files then please contact the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick.

“The documents in this series were kept by two brothers, William Henry Street and John Ambrose Sherman Street, who were born in Burton, Sunbury County, the sons of Hon. Samuel Deny Street and Abigail Freeman. They were educated at public schools in Burton and Fredericton.

William Henry Street was born April 11, 1793. After completing his education, he engaged in the mercantile business in Saint John. He was twice mayor of Saint John (1835-1836 and 1848-1849) and served in the militia. In the General Election of 1842, he ran for Saint John City and, after protest, was awarded the seat. He sat until the dissolution of the House in 1846 when he retired from politics. W.H. Street was married twice: in 1824 to Mary Bruce, and in 1847 to Sarah Boyd Orr. He died in Saint John on April 4, 1875.

John Ambrose Sherman Street was born September 22, 1795. He studied in his father’s law office and was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar on February 22, 1817. He practiced law at Chatham, Northumberland County, and in 1823 married Jane Isabella Hubbard. He was elected to the Assembly as a Conservative member for Northumberland County at a by-election in 1833. He sat in the House almost continuously until his defeat in 1856. He then moved to Fredericton and unsuccessfully ran for York County in 1861 and 1865. He was made a member of the Executive Council in 1851, and served as Attorney-General until 1854. He died in 1865.

The Street Records pertain to the legal and business affairs of the brothers. The material is catalogued alphabetically according to client’s name. The types of documents found here include: indentures, deeds, declarations, bonds, assignments, correspondence, and leases. The material dates from 1812 to 1863. This series measures 9 centimeters.”

Thanksgiving. The perfect excuse to return to our families and rest our worn bodies on familiar terr

Thanksgiving. The perfect excuse to return to our families and rest our worn bodies on familiar territory. I returned home last night to do just that. The familiar smells of the home I grew up in still fill the air and my now old and lazy dog greets me. I am home.

I woke up this morning and found some excuse to go drive around the old town that I grew up in. It seems that, in a bizarre fashion, nothing has changed yet everything is different.

As I dive into town I see the public pool, closed for the season, I remember going there as a child. Remembering the excitments of the diving board and escaping the heat, I smile with fond memories. Next to the pool is the park, with the wooden playground, and grassy field that seems to stretch out for miles only to be crowded on the 4th of July. I drive past the familar landmarks that seem untouched by time, the post office…bank…library…the taqueria. These fond places of my childhood, now covered in the orange leaves of fall, bring a lump to my throat and a smile to my lips.

But as I round yet another corner of my small town I see the landmarks that HAVE been touched by harsh times. The cold hands of the economy seemed to stretch over many of my old hangouts. The Rainbow Market, once an icon of my town, now lay vacant with windows bored up and parking lot empty. The local burger joint that my friends and I would race to after school now replaced with a trendy Mr. Pickels, and the old mill demolished for more parking spaces.

And as I drive around, taking in the town that I used to call “home”, I see familiar faces. Faces of friends and acquantences walk around this old town of mine. Never ammounting to anything that the history books would record as, “enough”, yet finding more personal peace then most of us will in our entire lifetime. They walk around, from street light to street light, in the same groups as I remember from my high school luches, the only thing missing is me. I smile with fond memories of these old friends.

In conclusion this town of mine as change dramatically, yet it seems frozen in time. It’s refreshing, yet grounding to see this. Yes, I am home, but no, my home is not the same. Many of you will find yourselves going back to your own places of orgin over the holiday season, only to continually find what I have found. But let our generation overcome this. Let us work hard and shift these tides. Good luck, my friends.

We all know Heidi Montag of the Hills. She’s a beautifull girl, and she can also sing. I like her songs but they all kinda like.. sound the same. But this song is a little bit different, i really like it.
Oh yeah, that picture of here scares me :s.

Did you know she also made a video with Spencer Pratt? Omg, you really have to see it. I’ts called: I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. Okay, that title is really stupid.

That’s what I mean…

“Baby I get paid, I don’t volunteer. I’m a celebrity, get me out of here. Get me out of here. Get me out of here. I’m a celebrity, get me out of here.”
uuh ohmygosh?
Whatever, dude.
I hope you liked Heidi’s video?

That would be what I feel like right about now. The reactions I’ve heard recently have given m

That would be what I feel like right about now. The reactions I’ve heard recently have given me a bit of a complex. “Gasp! Shriek! You, you have SWINE FLU?!?! Well, what, like, what does that mean? What’s going to happen?”

Yes, people, I have been diagnosed with Type A Influenza (or so the rapid flu test says) before the typical onset of seasonal flu. But I’m not going to die (even though I am asthmatic). And I haven’t been granted some special power to zap you with death serum from anywhere less than 5 feet away. The media has really gotten people in a tizzy over this flu thing, haven’t they?

I don’t dispute that it’s scary to have a new strain of a virus that’s capabilities are unknown, nor do I dispute that its complications can be deadly. In fact, when I first heard the news, my heart sank, my brow instantly perspired and I think my eyes momentarily ejected themselves from my face in shock. After all, I didn’t ever register a fever (that I know of) and I was certain that I just had a bad cold that caused an ear infection. I was right about the ear infection, but wrong about the cold. Strange, because two months ago when I was sick, I was sure that my symptoms were that of the flu in spite of what the rapid flu test said; and, this time I didn’t feel at all the same.

At first, I was also overwhelmed and completely consumed with concern for my son, since he is in the “very young” high-risk category for complications from swine flu. He continues to suffer from bronchiolitis, as I mentioned earlier. This is a complication from a virus. Whether that virus was swine, or RSV (the most likely cause), or something else, is unknown. His rapid flu test was negative, but the doctor explained that means very little because the tests are inconclusive and the virus could already be cleared from his body.

Now, it’s just getting tiring to hear people so clearly at a loss for words over our situation and it’s depressing to feel like such an outcast! I’m trying to be a little less dramatic about the whole thing and have some faith that we’ll all be fine. As Tony has been saying for months, regular seasonal influenza kills hundreds of thousands of people every year (confirmed by this article), and for some reason that doesn’t cause a worldwide media or public uproar each year.

Nonetheless, I have successfully remained uninvolved in Spencer’s care since Sunday (when I found out I had swine) and have tortured myself with a bedroom quarantine (which has given Tony some oh so enlightening insight into what it’s like to be a stay-at-home Mom). His bronchiolitis was unresponsive to breathing treatments; so, we just have to wait it out and let it run its course with no medication, as they tell me it eventually will. The inability to do anything to help him is the ultimate surrender of control, but fortunately, he remains in great spirits and is an amazing little trooper.

Ohayo! Yo!

I contacted a sleep consultant over the weekend because I was so frustrated with Spencer’s nap

I contacted a sleep consultant over the weekend because I was so frustrated with Spencer’s napping issues. I know, I know. It sounds crazy. But maybe now you can appreciate just how stressful and confusing this has been for me!

I had found an article she wrote online and it really helped me to understand baby’s sleep. As such, I’d been considering getting in touch with her personally because her rates seem very reasonable (but more so because I need help!). So I broke down and did it. So far, an awesome decision. If nothing else, I feel like someone understands our situation and believes we can overcome at least some aspects of it.

She believes that he continues to be overtired and that his temperament could be a bit “spirited,” which has a real impact on his sleep and my responsibility to help him get it. She suggested I understand temperament better, so here is my assessment of Spencer (though it’s a little hard to say for sure with a 6 mo. old who is overtired):

He is intense (reacts strongly to things, i.e. his crankiness and/or SCREAMING when he’s tired, or hungry, or anything that makes him feel like SCREAMING until he gets his way)

Is persistent (hmmm, maybe he could’ve gotten this from me?)

Is perceptive (and therefore fights sleep because he’s interested in what’s going on, as well as gets overstimulated easily)

Is possibly slow to adapt (not sure on this one)

Is inconsistent (in other words, not very good at being on a schedule)

Has a lot of energy (hence why he is ALWAYS moving and has a hard time settling down for sleep)

Could be moody too

Sounds fun, doesn’t it? I’m still sorting through all of this in my mind, and his true temperament remains to be seen, but Tony and I are banking on a rollercoaster based on the type of children we were.

Anyway, back to sleep. She suggested we spend a few days trying to get him caught up. The starter prescription: break the overtired cycle by continuously putting him down for a nap an hour and a half after he wakes up (yes, an HOUR AND A HALF!), and couple that with an earlier than normal bedtime. We started today, so that means I haven’t left the house all day. He successfully napped every hour and a half and was asleep at 6:15pm. He was less cranky today than he’s been lately, but it’s hard to tell if it’s working because he isn’t quite himself … I think my poor baby has his first cold.

So if this works, we’ll move to a 4-nap schedule in a few days and then try to transition to a 3-nap schedule shortly thereafter. Wish us luck (and sleep)!

It’s been a little crazy the last couple of weeks. As mum keeps reminding me, it never slows d

It’s been a little crazy the last couple of weeks. As mum keeps reminding me, it never slows down. I mean, it’s gotta slow down a little because DANG. My head is still certainly above water, though. Let’s see. What’s been going on lately?

Class is not quite a torrential downpour of crap, but it’s a definite crap storm. Today I wrote my Lit of the American West essay and for some reason it was the hardest essay of my college career. I could NOT get my ideas together and nothing flowed well. I’m hoping for a B+, but it’s only going to come as the result of Hadley’s supreme generosity and hopefully she’s in a good mood. In other news, I think I did pretty well on the second Social Theory essay (may God cause that entire field of research to sink into an oceanic trench). Re: finals- At this point I’m looking at a 10 page paper for Social Theory, a 10 page paper for Readings in Fiction, a 10 page paper for Harlem Renaissance, a research project involving wikipedia for Lit, and a final, non cumulative test for Abnormal Psych. So… it’s not great, but it could definitely be worse.

Life:
Boyfriend is amazing. I’m not sure we’ve had a real fight yet, but we’ve definitely exited the honeymoon phase peaceably, contentedly, and without me growing instantly bored, which is a gorgeous change. God has been very very good to me and I’m 99% sure that I’ve found my other half. I guess we’ll see, right? Meanwhile, here’s some advice: don’t look. I never would’ve seen him if I’d been looking. We found each other, and God used us to save each other. It’s been pretty great. (ok, that’s it, i’m done).

Mum returned from the Philippines all a flurry with action. I catch her excitement easily but I’ve been trying to stay cool. I’m prone to sudden strong ideas– blowing out of the US after school to go work for ICM. Right now that seems great, but I’m going to need to think this through, pray, discuss, etc. And I don’t think I’m goin’ anywhere w/out Spence. But I definitely want to visit, at least.

Bible study ends this week. Sad about that, actually. Women I actually respect and like, who though I have little in common with, I feel safe with and enjoy the company of. Unusual for me.

Staying at Mom’s tonight. Coming back to the house of my earliest memories (I’ve got nothin’ from living in DC) is always a little weird. There’s all the old photos and collections of trinkets– drumstick mom got from the drummer of Big Audio Dynamite, in the puppy mug Ada Ruth sent me for Christmas, next to the ridiculous ceramic statue Matt’s mom gave me for graduation. I still have a Switchfoot poster on the wall (caddy corner the much more awesome Stephane Pompougnac poster for Costes Trois). And my parents are downstairs. It fills me both with security and a vague fear– I don’t want to be too comfortable here. You can go back, but you can’t stay back, you know? (Aaand cue 80s hit by Simple Minds)

Anyway– next week holds it’s set of problems and I’ll ford those rivers when they flood. (Do not try this in Oregon Trail, you never make it). It won’t be too bad, anyway… guess who’s got two thumbs and 12:08am tickets to New Moon?

This bee-yatch.

HS

PS. this is for all of you. doug’s blog (which i read while waiting for spence to text me “home safe”) made me think of metal, which made me think of my preferred glam rock, which made me think of matt givens, which made me think of Skid Row. Which made me post you guys this:

He is going to trial against TLC for “ruining his life and reputation” as if that is untarnished after what he did to his wife and kids wasn’t enough? This guy thinks he is “too famous” to be hired in a regular job. I can think of several jobs he could get off the top of my head. Dog Catcher, window washer, sewer worker, sanitation worker, car wash attendant, oh! the list goes on and on, toilet cleaner…you name it; he can do it!

Jon G and Spencer BRATT should start their own TV reality series called “too famous to work”. I like that and I would continue my idea but why give them any!

Beck continues his Record Club project. If you’re not familiar with the project, this is how it works: Beck rounds up a revolving cast of guests to cover an entire album’s worth of songs in a day. The results are then posted in weekly installments on Beck’s website.

So what are the latest entries? Mr. Beck is teaming up with respectively Wilco, Feist and Jamie Lidell. He’s going to cover the 1969 ‘cult fave’ ‘Oar’ by onetime Moby Grapye/Jefferson Airplane member turned acid casualty Skip Spence.

Sitting in on drums was James Gadson(who has drummed with Bill Withers0n, while Spencer Tweedy(son of), pitched in on drums as well.

The two previous entries in the Record Club were a cover of ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’(with producer Nigel Godrich and actor Giovannie Ribisi) and ‘Songs of Leonard Cohen’(with MGMT and Devendra Banhart).

Enjoy ‘Little Hands’ (with Wilco, Feist and Jamie Lidell) below!
