Quizás el título más raro que le haya puesto a un post xD

Bien, vayamos al grano…¿qué tienen en común Pink Floyd, Los Simpsons y cerdos en el cielo?

Fue en 1977 cuando Pink Floyd estaba preparando el lanzamiento del que sería su próximo disco, Animals, album que tomaba como fuente de inspiración la novela de George Orwell Rebelión en la granja (que, todo sea dicho, aún tengo pendiente de leer xD). En alusión a la temática del disco, la banda desarrolló una idea para la portada del mismo: una imagen de un cerdo volando sobre los alrededores de una zona industrial.

La escena en sí puede ser interpretada de diversas maneras, aunque la visión de Roger Waters, principal compositor de la banda, era simbolizar la codicia (quizás llamando cerdos a los empresarios, imagino xD). A pesar de que lo más económico y rápido habría sido realizar un montaje fotográfico, la banda se empeñó en plasmar la idea en la realidad, siendo así como, finalmente, la imagen fue inmortalizada sobre la central eléctrica Battersea Power Station, con un cerdo gigante relleno de helio – que, aprovecho para comentar, resulta que tras realizar algunas fotografías el cerdo salió volando, dando lugar a rumores y leyendas explicando su más dispar paradero-. Sin embargo, a pesar de todo la imagen tuvo que ser retocada dado que las nubes impidieron un resultado óptimo de la fotografía.

No hace falta decir que, a día de hoy, la portada de Animals es una de las más curiosas dentro de la carrera de Pink Floyd, y, muy posiblemente, también dentro de la historia de la música.

Es por ello que, durante la promoción de la película de Los Simpsons (aquella que parecía que nunca iban a hacer xD), el equipo decidió hacer una particular parodia/homenaje a la mítica portada, utilizando no a un cerdo cualquiera, sino que al genuino SpiderCerdo.

A mi parecer, uno de los más currados y grandes guiños que ha hecho el equipo de Los Simpsons a lo largo de su historia…por no mencionar la música de fondo.

It was interesting to catch all the reactions to the usage of this phrase by Obama yesterday. The best way to summarize all of that, in my opinion, is this article by Matt Frei, writing for the BBC. Really, aren’t there more important issues to address for all of us?

Lyda here. I went to bed at 10 p.m. I got up at 1:30 a.m. I’ve been sitting at the computer since, playing spider solitaire, reading blogs, and wandering the Cosmic Innernetting. I took a short break when the Resident Sith Master got up to get some water. In the morning, he may or may not remember our short conversation, or even that he was up. Sleep walking runs in the family. Or lurches. Whatev.

Why am I up?? I haven’t a clue. I was so tired today. I maybe had a little extra caffeine, but not mega doses. It was a bad day with the fibromyalgia, so I took two doses of Vicodine (properly spaced, one in the afternoon, one just before bed). Vicodine used to put me to sleep. What happened?   I went to bed very sleepy, read a bit, fell asleep. Nothing new or unusual in any of this.

Then I had a really great dream (yeah, one of those dreams). And I was wide awake.

I’ll be a basket case tomorrow. A total zombie. Even more than usual, I mean. And the cat refuses to let me sleep in. I tell you, he’s trying to kill me.

And now I’m hungry. Who is hungry at 3:48 am?? Other than babies still on their night feeding, I mean.

And vampires. Who are also on their night feeding. Heh. Have ya’ll read “Bloodsucking Fiends“? Great book. Did you know there is a sequel? Oh, and here’s another of his I didn’t know about. Must. Read. I love Christopher Moore’s books.

Although I can never remember his name. I have to wander the bookstore, or look up one of the titles on the computer. It’s not like it’s a difficult spelling or anything. It’s weird – like I have a mental block against his name or something.

But I digress…

I obviously need a keeper.

Or a real sex life.

In my wanderings, I discovered this site – Cake Decorating, the Dark Side. Sorry, I can’t remember whose blog lead me to the link. Did I mention it’s almost 4 am? I’ll come back tomorrow (shit, I mean later today) and figure it out. Wait, I remembered, it was here on That is So Queer…

The Swedish chef makes cakes that look better than those - and he’s a Muppet. YouTube has everything, I tell ya.

And this blog makes my Inner English teacher laugh. And this blog which has all kinds of geeky goodness, including Star Wars cakes. And I discovered that Spidey will be swinging and singing on Broadway. I think they should make “SpiderPig: The Musical“. But that’s just me.

Did you know Alan Rickman made a film called “Snow Cake“? Here’s the trailer. Searching IMDb resulted in 7 movies/TV shows named “Cake”, and over 75 movies/TV shows with “cake” in the title. Plus a lot more cake references. See? Who knew there was so much cake in movies?

Cake is everywhere. Except my kitchen. Dammit.

I discovered this guy, who is as obsessed with cake as I am. And this cartoon – I need a boyfriend who is this determined to bring me cake!

I watched the Simpsons movie last night.

This is so awesome. A German blogger (or rather sketchblogger) whose posts I adore – his name is Jojo – has created a real-live stunningly authentic spiderpig! Unfortunately it’s not the original spiederpig character from the Simpsons movie, probably because of copyright restrictions. But hey, it’s a spiderpig!

“Let us see, what are the biggest distractions of our lives these days?” This is the topic during my last conversation with friends.

A friend said: downloading movies using BitTorrent, and of course, followed by watching them; planning to travel after those bloody exams (including checking out the cheapest airline or train or bus or hostels, and contacting friends living there for free accommodation); shopping t-shirts online; cooking and sitting for hours in the kitchen playing cards. Another friend: making music with a Spanish friends, chatting with a blonde girlfriend, playing PSP or XBox 360 with ONLY male friends.

As for me, it would be hundreds more: jotting unimportant notes on Stickies (like now); downloading music; adding pictures to Flickr; reading and replying e-mails; mopping the room; going to REMA 1000 for corn chips; eating those chips; editing music info on iTunes; playing Reversi and Hangman on dashboard; reading Indonesian newspapers online; adding people on messengers; talking to you on messengers; making CD compilation; thinking about how many beers to take for picnic by the lake today; updating status on messengers; “screaming” on the latest news to friends on Skype; adding favourite videos on YouTube, for example this one about the Amazing Victor:

The list continues: finding lyrics for the song I’m listening while typing and singing it; editing pictures using photoshop; goodbye-partying; thinking about why the voice of Keith Murray from We Are Scientists does so much better job for him when he sings than when he talks normally; cleaning my Mac because you know, the more you write on it the more you see that weird new colour and the more you want to grab that wet tissue far away on the corner of the shelves; updating the lyrics application on Facebook: as now I want to change The Rakes’ Just A Man With A Job with Divine Comedy’s Freedom Road…

Other than that, it’s not distraction. It’s just leisure pursuit. However, merely complaining for this distracted mind doesn’t give any viable solution. The best solution is: turn off the internet. NOW.

Oh wait, after an episode of The Simpsons.

With the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest less than 2 weeks away here in Memphis, the timing of this couldn’t be better. A friend of mine sent me a link today just trying to gross me out…instead, I may try this.

BACON-FLAVORED VODKA!!!

Yes, BACON-FLAVORED VODKA! Now, I;m not much of a vodka drinker…I’m more of a beer and wine guy…but I do LOVE bacon! No, I’m not anywhere near the point that Homer Simpson was before his bypass, but I have been known to enjoy a pork-product or two from time to time. And yes, I will be in a rib-induced coma by the end of next week at Tom Lee “Pork”. But, if it’s been a hellova party and you don’t want it to end at 7am, skip the trip to Waffle House, and enjoy a sip of some “Old Ziffle”.

Think I’m kidding? Here is the recipe that I was sent (not checked for validity, but it sounds kinda good):

Ingredients: Bacon, Vodka (unflavored, but Absolut Peppar might work), Peppercorns

Fry up 3 strips of bacon. Add the bacon to a regular sized Mason Jar and trim the ends that extend out of the jar. Add the trimmed pieces back to the jar (or you can just crumble all of the bacon pieces and put them in the jar…your move). Add 1 tbsp of crushed Black Peppercorns to jar (use half if using Absolut Peppar). Fill the Mason Jar with vodka. Tightly cap and store at room temperature in a dark location for no less than 3 weeks to allow bacon flavor to infuse into vodka. After 3 weeks, place your bacon vodka jar in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain the fats and bacon pieces through a paper coffee filter into a container. Discard bacon pieces and fats.

That’ll do pig…that’ll do.

Bella, my 6-year-old daughter, has heard me singing the SpiderPig song from the Simpson’s movie from time to time.  Today, when I opened up the scanner at the office, I found this pic of the “spiderpig” that she had sketched a few months ago.  Very imaginative, don’t you think?

Chi non conosce questa copertina? Si tratta dell’album Animals dei Pink Floyd, anno 1977. La copertina ritrae la Battersea Power Station, l’antica centrale elettrica di Londra (oggi in disuso e, forse, in attesa di essere abbattuta per creare un “magnifico” centro commerciale” ) con le sue famose quattro enormi ciminiere bianche. La Battersea è famosa grazie a questa copertina ed è anche diventata meta “turistica” tra quegli inguaribili nostalgici dei fans Floydiani, che ancora oggi vi si recano durante i loro viaggi a Londra come in una sorta di pagano pellegrinaggio (in realtà stanno completamente fuori con la testa! ). Tra le “torri” potete notare un maiale volante…e quel maiale li c’è stato davvero! Tante furono le peripezie per la realizzazione della foto da cui doveva nascere questa copertina; talmente tante che alla fine molto di quello che vedete è stato disegnato. Furono organizzate due sessioni di scatto…nella prima il gonfiabile del maiale sfuggì al controllo creando notevoli problemi al traffico aereo sopra Londra…nella seconda fu direttamente abbattuto prima che sfuggisse di nuovo.

Ma perchè vi dico tutto cio? Un (bel) pò perchè, da grande appassionato, mi piace parlare dei Pink Floyd, e poi perchè (e l’ho scoperto solo oggi) quei pazzi che si sono occupati della campagna pubblicitaria per il film dei Simpson, uscito da noi lo scorso settembre, hanno pensato bene di realizzare la stessa operazione con l’ormai famoso SpiderPork, che tanto piace citare a qualche amico del forum (vero Kamin?). Insomma guardatevi anche quest’altro video con lo SpiderPork e poi pensate tranquillamente che, se non vi siete fermati prima, avete perso 5 minuti buoni buoni poprio per nulla… Vabbè, perdonatemi, sono deliri febbrili…

SPIDER PIG!!! Arrrrrrrrrrgh! Run for your life!!!!

Squarepig realises that whenever things get a little too intellectual for her, (Karaoke corner- for higher grade pigs) she gets the unutterable urge to sabotage everything with something totally ridiculous, like Spider Pig!!! At which point she puts on her sticky feet and starts climbing the walls singing this song:
